TakeStock - Stock Data Aggregator Tool

I've been trying to find a site that shows me RSI, PEG Ratio, Earnings Date, and other stock stats all on one screen for all the stocks of my choosing. I was having difficulty finding this, so I decided to create a tool that did it for me. This application scrapes multiple sites, including nasdaq and yahoo to name a couple.

Feel free to try the app and let me know what you guys think. You enter comma separeted tickers and simply click the search button, and after some time the results will appear. http://ift.tt/1LR2hGW

It also comes with a command line interface if that's more your style :-)

Market set to rebound

Market Rally around the corner

On Sept 24th I was looking for a nice bounce based on the 60 min time frame and the market gave us that and a nice follow through day. But now we have another interesting set up, one that I am calling for a decent rally starting tomorrow. I am not looking to call size but would not be surprised to see a candle that mirrors the one we had on August 26th after the corrective move.

Here are some things to look at:

End of the quarter End of Sept (Historically very bad) Beginning of a historically bullish 4th quarter

Time Frames: Daily and 60 minute have cycled down and are both oversold.

Not to forget the Carl Icahn video warning of a market meltdown.

Thanks Uncle Carl that just might have been the icing on the cake.

and the biggest factor in my opinion is the amount of bearishness in the markets right now, specifically the amount of chatter from traders and market followers that we are going to take out August 24th lows. This is basically right here now and seems so easy to do...right. Of course this could play out to the downside but I think to much focus is on that right now and at one point tomorrow we get the rally and a decent one. This video goes into some stocks to watch also FB, WMT, HP, XOM and more.

Tomorrow should be a fun day to both trade and watch

see you on the show http://ift.tt/1bdJIdh

In total, how much client money is there in the markets?

Who are the investing with? ( banks, private investment firms, etc) ?

Can these statistical datas be broken day via demographic? (Whats the % of people who invest in LA/with who/etc)

Thank you very much for any help provided, I think these are questions that can give us all insight.

Another 5% down day in the not too distant future?

There was widespread panic in August with a 1000 point down day in the Dow. Here are reasons why we could see a repeat in the not too distant future: a) Back in August the Vix broke out above 25 just like it did today and went straight to 53. b) A death cross was just forming in the DOW and later in the S and P 500, Guess What? It is forming in the Nasdaq today (50 DMA below 200 DMA) c)Valuations are still pretty lofty if you look at measures like the Shiller Cape or Dividend Yield. d) Deflation is in the air, just look at China and the commodity complex. e) Flight to safety out of risk assets into the dollar, yen and treasuries much like in 2008.

your thoughts?

Win Big By Thinking Small: 4 Reasons Why U.S. Small Cap Value Should Outperform

Read the article here

Abstract: In times of intense volatility and foreign instability, investors worry about where to put their money to work. Fear often dictates in situations like these, but - as I will attempt to explain in this article - rational analysis leads to the conclusion that the likely winners in today's market are domestic small capitalization value stocks. This view is based on the following four factors:

  1. Value is about to make a comeback in a big way.

  2. The United States economy is incredibly robust, and getting stronger.

  3. The tailwinds behind small capitalization value stocks of low interest rates and low commodity prices should continue to help accelerate top and bottom line growth, respectively.

  4. The significant headwinds holding back large multinationals like the strong dollar and a weaker Europe, Asia, and Emerging Market economies have little to no effect on domestic small cap value stocks.

Swing Trade Stategies for Class

Hey all,

I am know a finance class and we have 11 weeks to trade securities/derivatives (any position) with $1m "play" dollars. If I am going to make any real money I think short term holds are the way to go.

I've never really traded and am looking for advice. So far I have some simplistic strategies: 1. Bet on positively forecasted earnings announcements and hope they hit. Worked for DRI, but not for CAG.

  1. Keep my eyes on the headlines. Try to get a short position on VW but just missed it. Looks like UAW is pushing a new pact with automakers like ford which results I. Higher wages. Trying to time it right to short that stock to reap some money off the reaction.

Other than that I am not sure. I have been told look for good PE multiples.

Anyway any advice? This is play money so we are going to be pretty aggressive. I just need ideas on overall strategies bc I don't have the time to check headlines all day every day.

Thanks! S

Now he says he will lower the drug price because of the controversy

Watch him lower to $250 because this is "break even", but still way above the $13 it was before.

Turing to roll back pricing for Daraprim amid controversy

The pharmaceutical company boss under fire from Hillary Clinton and many others for jacking up the price of the drug Daraprim 5,000 percent overnight said Tuesday he will lower the cost of the life-saving drug.

Martin Shkreli did not say what the new price would be but expected a determination to be made over the next few weeks.

He told NBC News that the decision to lower the price was a reaction to outrage over the increase in the price of the drug from $13.50 to $750 per pill.

"Yes it is absolutely a reaction — there were mistakes made with respect to helping people understand why we took this action, I think that it makes sense to lower the price in response to the anger that was felt by people," Shkreli said, 32.

Turing Pharmaceuticals of New York bought the drug from Impax Laboratories in August for $55 million and raised the price. Shkreli said the price would return to $13.50 in a few weeks.

If, instead of the Fed buying bonds as part of a policy of Quantitative Easing, there had been a criminal who purchased with undetectable counterfeit dollars an equivalent amount of government securities, what would the economic impact have been?

(Assume the counterfeiter emulates the Fed in his behavior as much as possible to avoid detection.)

What's been happening with the Fed?

Plain and simple, can someone explain what has been up with the fed recently (Past 6 months). I'm just beyond confused with all this talk about interest rates, and my research elsewhere hasn't helped. I'm not sure if this is the right sub, but I figured it was a good place to start.

Why are stocks selling off if the Fed didn't raise rates? What are investors afraid of?

People kept saying that the market will jump, or at least not drop, if the fed doesn't raise rates. Well the fed didn't raise rates, and the markets are dropping.

Insider trading?

Today on CNBC Pete Najarian mentioned that he jumped into ISIL due to rumors of ISIL being acquired. I went to Yahoo and looked at recent new stories for ISIL and on September 11 ISIL's CEO purchased 38,000 shares. I feel that if ISIL were truly going to be acquired that the CEO would at the very least have an inkling that they may be acquired and therefore would be violating insider trading rules. My conclusion is that ISIL will not be acquired any time soon due to this purchase (he/she would not be that stupid). Thoughts?

By the way, while typing up this question one thing did occur to me... if the share purchase was part of a regularly scheduled stock purchase plan put in place far before any acquisition knowledge. Correct?

Any advice for a young 21 year old getting back into stocks after getting lucky once?

Back in 2012 I bought a few shares of TSLA at $35 and sold them at $85 because I was a total noob and didn't understand the value approach to buying shares. So I want to get back into it correctly this time and I'm watching this guys videos on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_uQjGz6jp2E

I work real estate and live at home and save all of my money (and I have a few business schemes I'm working on). So my question is: What would you recommend I do? I have about 10k saved and working on saving 1k each month. Should I start investing now with this much money or scheme up my businesses, start profiting from those, AND then start investing once I have around 20k? I'm a total noob at this but I love it. I know I got lucky once and I had the right gut feeling towards the whole stock market. I'm reading "Rich dad poor dad", already read "Think and Grow rich", and watching this guys videos. Anything else you think I should do?

Kind regards,

Spencer

Researchers at Unanimous AI are recruiting a group of 100 investors, from casual to professional, to predict the Fed’s decision and the market’s response using an online Human Swarm. The whole process should be fun and take less than 10 minutes.

If I sell stocks at a price greater than the average price paid, does that mean I will turn a profit, as a whole?

Say I have bought Netflix stock at multiple prices over the year. Let's say the average price I paid is $90, and the stock price is at $91. If I sold at $91, even if I bought stock at $100 and some at less (average is still $90), would I make a profit as a whole? Sorry I am too lazy to do the math and I'm not sure if there could be any cases where I wouldn't turn a profit.

BABA - 4%, Barons saying they could fall another 50%

Amazing how sentiment shifts right?

BABA @$120 was the next wonder stock, the Chinese market has a long way to go, there is no stopping BABA from dominating! That extreme bullish sentiment marked the top of the run.

Fast forward 9 months and no sentiment is the exact opposite.

Makes me feel that its probably closer to a bottom more than ever since its Barrons calling for it to drop so much from here.

Also do you prefer to invest in smaller companies or established companies? Havent bought shares since 2012 so I'm new again.

is there a website to get historical fundamental data?

Hello. I have been handed a portfolio of stocks from my mother, and I've been studying books to learn about fundamental and technical analysis.

My goal is to sell the stocks that are not so good, and buy something better instead.

If this wasn't hard enough, I seem to be able to find only very few historical data, even for stocks on the NYSE. The European stocks are pretty hopeless. In most cases I can get together the last 2-3 years's worth of information, but that's hardly enough: I'd like 10-15 years of data on sales, P/Es, ROEs, dividends, dividend yields, EPS, CFPS... and, frankly, the more the better!

Is there an authoritative website where I can find that information? Can I just request it somewhere official?

My main focus is Europe (I'm based in Italy), but I do have some US stocks, too.

As an example of my troubles, let's take a very famous stock: Disney.

I did manage to get the price of the stock since 1980, and the dividends paid for every year from yahoo! finance. but then i look at recent data on 4-traders.com, and the data doesn't match.

4-traders.com maintains that in 2014 Disney gave 0,86 $ of dividend per share, with a yield of 0,82%. Yahoo! finance gives a dividend of 1,15 $ in 2014, which results in a yield of 1,51% against the price of the stock at the beginning of the year (76,04 $ opening).

Am I doing something wrong? To be honest, it looks like different sites have different data... if that's the case for past data, how can people get their analysis together? :/ and I'm not even touching the estimates for 2015-2019..

Baker Bros buys nearly 50% of secondary offering from AQXP

Ok, a little backstory:

On 8/6/2015 AQXP announced in its earnings conference call that the drug that failed to meet its primary endpoint a couple months earlier actually met all of its secondary endpoints and showed strong promise for further development. Subsequently the stock shot up 500% from $1.74 to the high $10s, then gapped up another 90% the next morning and ran to nearly $56 in one of the most epic short squeezes I've personally seen on a listed security in the last 10-15 years.

On 8/10/2015 a schedule 13D was filed with the SEC disclosing that Baker Bros. Advisors, a hedge fund that invests heavily in the healthcare sector, purchased over 4.2m shares during the run on 8/7/15, at various prices between $3 and $11. http://ift.tt/1NuZepg This was significant because there were barely over 10m shares in the float, meaning the fund bought over 40% of the available shares.

Then, a few days ago AQXP announced they are pricing a secondary offering of 5.5m shares at $15.50/share, typical of biotech companies after a big announcement, since they can use the stock's momentum to raise lots of additional capital to fund the continued development of their drugs. This reduced Baker Bros position and also increased the float which would normally curb some of the volatility and even drag the price down as the market corrects for the dilution.

Now here comes the kicker: today just after 4pm Baker Bros. filed a form 4 with the SEC disclosing that they bought nearly 2.5m more shares of AQXP at $15.50 - nearly 50% of the secondary offering - only a couple days after it was announced: http://ift.tt/1VT1b01

On that news, AQXP ran roughly 30% in after hours to high $21s/low $22s.

The reason for this post is really just to give people a bit of backstory on what's going on with AQXP so they can understand what to expect if they're trading it. Personally I think Monday will bring some crazy action on it, especially since Baker Bros owns almost 50% of the float and in opening that position has given retail traders the "opportunity" to develop a 40% short interest. I say opportunity in quotes because with 40% of the shares held short and a big fund holding a big long position, the supply is really really low and that means anyone currently holding shares will basically be able to name their price, including Baker Bros if they chose to sell (though they probably are just speculating on the results of the next phase of drug development, even though it's an extremely aggressive and bullish bet).

In other words, methinks AQXP is going on a big run on Monday. I took a trade in it during after hours to build some profit cushion but am going into Monday with no position. If it gets some legs I'll definitely be long for the fun. If nothing else it will be fun to watch the chaos.

Feel free to discuss!

MOMO Realtime Stock Discovery App (iOS) is now avail. Free promo for Reddit users!

Hi!

MOMO - a Real-Time Breakout Scanner was just released last month and now that its up and working up to our standards I’m trying to get the word out! For those of you who already came across MOMO through /Entrepreneur or /Robinhood I'm very grateful to those who have downloaded and given your suggestions and feedback!

Here are a few details: Product Name: MOMO Stock Discovery & Alerts

Download on the App Store

Our website - Mometic

MOMO solves the problem of NOT learning about big stock moves until well after they occur.
MOMO does what no other stock app does - it streams realtime stock movements from the entire US stock market directly to your phone in an easy to use and engaging way. Whether at your desk trying to learn of breakout stocks or on the go wanting to only be alerted to continued upward or downward movements, we think MOMO is the perfect stock companion. (We also happen to think it looks really cool)

Why MOMO:

There are tons of other finance apps available. No denying that. Unlike others: MOMO has not merely shrunk down a desktop app to a phone. Our approach was to re-think how and why active investors want to be kept abreast of the stock market activity.

Here are a few aspects which differentiate MOMO:

  • Unlike Watchlists that only follow stale entries, MOMO shows over 6500 stocks that are moving and ignores those that are not. Allowing you to discover new opportunities.
  • Charts, Studies, Technical Analysis, and Fundemental Analysis all have their place. MOMO doesn’t question why, it just shows you that it is continuing to break to new highs or lows in the markets most raw form.
  • Realtime push alerts (integrated with iOS push notifications) only notify you when a stock is moving beyond its daily range. Super easy to set up and adjust the sensitivity.
  • StocktTwits integration to help you quickly follow social activity related to price movement.

Cost?

$10.99 / mo. with significant quarterly and annual discounts ($22.99/qtr, $74.99/yr)

What’s in it for Reddit /iOS users? Well, I’m here to let you know we figured out how to give free subscription trials and would like to have you give it a try.

Download MOMO and Add the Alert: AAPL (clever, huh?) and we will set you up for one free month. Also be sure to sign up on our contact us on Mometic.com or email hello@mometic.com to let us know. You must add the AAPL alert so we can identify you. Once the alert is added, we will batch update our database to give you a free month. It may take us 12hrs or so, so please be patient. I’ll only be able to do this until Sept 14, so do it quickly.

Questions, comments, concerns, just want to say hi? Leave a comment below, message me, tweet at me (@mometicmobile) or send an email to hello@mometic.com. I'll get back to you promptly. Thanks!

Stocks I'm watching tomorrow, 9/10/2015

Hey guys!

Hope everyone had a fun labor day weekend and nice trading week so far. I've been posting most of my ideas on Twitter since I've been so busy mentoring and stuff at night but it's been a crazy few weeks! SPY has just been nuts. Awesome for trading intraday but it's very unpredictable and erratic from day to day, trying to guess whether it's gonna gap up, gap down, open flat, and then after said gap whether we will go up or down. Seems like people are just still in indecision/fear mode overall so IMO the best plan is just to take it day by day. There is incredible volatility intraday with stocks running (and falling) dollars left and right so you really have to size down your positions and go for a bigger percentage gain vs trying to keep a super tight stop and getting wicked out just due to the natural volatility we're seeing right now. I've found a lot of success lately by increasing my standards for what I trade in terms of float. Normally I stick in the 50-100m share range but lately those have just been too nuts for me, so I've been trading more in the 200-400m share float range since they are a bit less wicky and unpredictable intraday. I think a real key in this market is just sticking to your plans. You're going to take a lot of losses and get wicked out of a lot of stuff that will be really frustrating but you can't let it get to you. Your goal is just to finish green every day so keep your losses small and trade smart and you'll be just fine!

For tomorrow I really like SUNE for a short. It was selling off all day today and was super liquid, but be aware it was also following SPY pretty closely so if SPY rebounds, gaps or is strong tomorrow this will probably be off the table for me. ASTI is also nice. They did some silly presentation today telling people that they have a $3.00+ valuation because they have burned $200m in R&D and CAPEX, lol but ... the presentation had lots of pretty colors and such so it looks like that is all people need as it was printing .41 in after hours. So I'll be stalking that tomorrow to see if it gets some juice but I definitely am not attached to it. JOY could be an interesting one as it's been testing support from its first big red day on earnings for a few days now and seems to want more downside. Lastly I noticed SNSS had a very subtle volume expansion today so I'll be keeping an eye on that.

Hope everyone had a great day!

Chris

What is your opinion on $BABA

$BABA has dropped 40% YTD probably fueled by initial overpricing, plus the current china-situation.

In spite of this the company is reporting very good numbers. Both growth and profits are on the rise and I don't think the drop of the stock in the last month is warranted to this degree.

I got in at $66. Now the stock is at 60 and I'm thinking about whether I should double down or just hold. What do you think?

Stock Market personal assistant that lives inside of your messages

Hey Stock-Marketeers,

A little context, I recently went to a computer programming competition where one of the challenges were to build a useful stock market tool. All of my teammates left me so I wasn't able to finish in time, but continued work as soon as I got back home and finally uploaded a working build.

I knew nothing about the stock market going in, so I started speaking to one of the sponsors at the event (http://www.finra.org) and they helped me learn about the stock market. I'm still constantly learning, but I (think) have the main idea down.

Done with that, this is how my app works. You send in a text message saying hello to +19013004207. Once you've done that, you can ask things like: "How's the stock market treating IBM" or "How are Facebook stocks doing" or something as simple as: "Facebook" And you can even have multiple companies in your message, such as: "Get me stocks for Google, Microsoft, Apple and IBM". This entire transaction happens within a couple of seconds.

Once you do this, the service sends a reply with stock data for each company. (Opening, High, Low, Percent change, last open data)

Every time you search for a company, it saves it to memory, so you can ask something like "How's the Stock market?", and It'll give you stock data for every company that you have ever searched for.

There aren't many features up right now (Done by 1 person in a few days), but I plan to add many more.

People with experience in the Stock Market, what do you think? Is this something you could use, or features you'd like to see added before using it? Or is this something you would never use?

Financial Statements and Valuation Metrics API

I just finished the first (beta) version of an API that allows you to download financial statements (balance sheets, income statements, and cashflows) as well as valuation metrics for all public US companies.

It's a REST API. We've got SDKs for PHP and .NET. If you're not a programmer you can also access the data via a web dashboard.

I'd love to get suggestions from you all about what features you would like to see. Hopefully this helps someone out there!

Trading chat rooms?

I always see advertisements for stuff like pay $150/mo and gain access to our chat group, no trials allowed and once you join no refunds!! I always just assume they'd be empty and steal my cash so I never used them.

Well I was on stocktwits and someone was making some reasonable comments and quoting his chat and so I looked at his messages and he sent out a message about joining a free chat room where he and others make calls and discuss stocks/options/etc. It was on groupme and I've used that for classes before so I know that it's safe.

Are there any cons of joining and learning a few things? Obviously if he starts telling everyone to buy an OTC stock it's a scam so I'll watch for that.

No I'm not going to post the link in here and start a witch hunt. If anyone is curious I can PM the info (if mods allow me to). I'm just looking for some insight as to why it'd be a free service and if there would be any "angles" they're playing.

Hunting For Value In The Mega-Caps

Read the article here

Abstract:

One of my latest articles, Hunting For Value In The Dow 30: The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly, picked through the 30 components of the Dow Jones Industrial Average in an attempt to find value. I was glad to see that it was extremely well received, and I have, accordingly, decided to conduct a very similar hunt within the S&P 500 Index Mega-Caps.

Despite the recent turbulence in the S&P 500 Index over the past month, the previous five years have been nothing short stellar for the Index, leading many to question whether value investors have anything left to pick up, especially given that the Index now trades at a forward P/E multiple somewhere between 16x and 17x. In this article, I try to find out through an examination of the ten largest holdings in the index from a value perspective.

SLP - Price Fixing? Collusion?

Hello, I'm a total noob dicking around with stocks and I'm trying to figure out what happened to me this morning.

I purchased 75 shares of SLP a few weeks ago at $6.38. Yesterday I saw a huge gain (8%+ to $7.30) and was feeling pretty good about myself.

So after the market closed, I decided to put a stop limit in @6.86 to protect my profits. To my surprise, I saw that the order filled this morning around 9:30 am. Checking the chart, it looks like SLP dropped momentarily to 6.67 at 9:30am, causing the order to be executed. Shortly thereafter, the price bounced back up within minutes. WHY DID THIS HAPPEN? I'm convinced there's something fishy going on here. Like some sort of price fixing and/or collusion. Can anyone shed some light?

-Edit- Anyone has any advice for how to avoid this in the future? Should I just never use stop limit orders? Also, is it possible for someone with enough shares to temporarily bring down the price and essentially steal other shareholders earnings through their stop order limits?

looking for sources to get 10 or 15 yr financial history of companies

I was wondering what sources you use to get 10 or 15 yr financial histories of companies. Particularly important to me if it includes the ASX listed (Australian).

I'm looking for something like this example (but on guru you have to go hefty premium to get the information in its entirety).

Also, a second bonus question just in case: My longer objective is to use this to set up a google spreadsheet with a ticker to auto-import the tables. I've tried this with morningstar.com.au, but I'm reasonably new and don't know what I'm doing wrong. It works on guru but not on morningstar. If anyone can point out what's wrong that'd also be of great help.

For guru I type;

=importhtml("http://ift.tt/1ASDSrQ<insert stock code>","table",3)

That works and it imports financial history!

For morningstar I type:

=importhtml("http://ift.tt/1KuovPO<insert stock code>","table",1)

and it doesn't work. Source says there are 8 tables on the page and none of 1-8 work.

The only thing I can think of is that on morningstar I have to login to my account to actually see the financial history and when google spreadsheets looks it up it is met with that wall. Any advice would be appreciated. If you already have or know of a google spreadsheet that does this that would be greatly appreciated too!

USO didn't drop today, the bottom for oil is in!

Despite API inventory build being confirmed by DoE, a 34th senator agreeing to Iran deal, and China loaning Venezula $5 billion to keep pumping.... USO didn't drop!

What am I missing? I'm relatively new but when I analyze those 3 decisions above they scream sell. Am I crazy?
