Shorting a stock and Acct Min Requirements
I have looked online endlessly and cant get a straight answer or the typical "Dont Short!" nonsense. But my question is suppose I would like to short 100 shares of XYZ at $30 how much would I need in my account (and its a margin acct)? disregarding the commissions of course. Im so confused.
A) $3000 like a typical long?
B) $4500 according to Reg-T explanations, which was confusing
C) whatever the broker says you need, according to their min requirements regardless of A & B
Thank you for the help.

I heard in a internview w/ Ackman that he has a 1 Billion+ short position in Herbalife.
My question, where does he get all these shares to short for this long without getting a buy in or something? Or is he just shorting Icahn's longs? lol
Thank you!!

Very new to trading
Hello everyone I am very new to trading so I figured this was the best place to get some information. Before I begin investing and trading I want to continue my research into it. Is there a free day trading software that is used that works really well? I have an etrade account as of yesterday however I do not just yet want to subscribe to etrade pro. Also are their any well reputed links to information on do and don't or understanding beginning trading that may benefit me more than just go ogling questions? Thank you for your time!

2/27 Daytrading Watchlist
My Daytrading watchlist
2/27
BIOC had a conference call to "4:30 p.m. ET to discuss the financial results and provide a company update.". Most likely down on that, earnings are a while away (March 9th). Anticipating a washout toward 3 and will use that as a guide for the rest of the day.
ARQL is NOT a low float stock, it is just running on message board hype. They are releasing earnings on March 4th and a lot of people are saying it is going to be "amazing earnings". Expecting either a 2 "stuff" (where it just stuffs 2 and can't break it), or a 2 parabolic to around the .25 -50 range. Will be shorting green to red.
CYTX is up on "FDA approval to expand the number of Scleroderma clinical trial sites from 12 to 20 centers in the United States". I will be shorting a "back side of move" using .50 as a guide. Not shorting any parabolic moves.
CYCC is a short squeeze + a pump. No news came out on this stock at all. Will keep this on my "second" watchlist and will be shorting any morning washout.
ZAGG is a classic running stock. This stock is well known for being a pump and dump, it has been pumped 275 times by pumpers. But thats not why it's up this time. Zacks analysts + board of Directors Authorizes $15 Million for Stock Repurchase + Reports Financial Results for Fourth Quarter. Expecting it to actually stuff into 8. Will use 8 as a guide for the rest of the day.
I am pretty sick so I might not be trading tomorrow. Good luck!
Let me know what you think!

$VUZI - drew a $24.8 million investment from Intel.
Anyone else watching Vuzix ($VUZI)? I saw that some users here - Imgur - have been talking about the company and buying into it. The company recently drew a $24.8 million investment from Intel and started trading on the NASDAQ in January. The listing will go a long way to boost credibility and visibility for the company and should create more liquidity in the shares. I bought some shares today at $5.82 after it pulled back a little from last week. I'm hoping for a positive earnings surprise sometime in March.

Stocks I'm watching tomorrow 2/27/15
Good evening guys and girls! Time for another list of stocks for tomorrow. I had a pretty boring day. I tried shorting SEE at $47.75 per my plan from last night but it started flagging and refused to roll over so I took it off flat. That turned out to be a good choice since it decided to grind up all day. Honestly I'm not that surprised since it isn't really that extended so the short setup was a bit weak but oh well, it was worth a shot. Then I shorted RDUS at $45.24 since it wouldn't pop in the morning and seemed to be weakening...I sat in that stupid thing for like 4 hours just to make 40 cents, lol but at least it was a profit! There was a big lack of volume in it today which I was hoping would actually help it fall, but there was a little bit of size at $44.60 that it couldn't seem to get through so I covered at $44.84 and that was basically all the liquidity that was left. My tiny tiny cover spiked it 20 cents and it closed at $45.32, lol. So anyway just those two trades and neither way very fruitful so I just had a small green day. As I predicted yesterday SPY was a bit weak today so it was a good idea to take off my VG and LF swings for flat/small gain (both were red today). A couple things from my lists earlier this week took off today (CYTR, SIGM) but neither was very exciting since the market was still kinda lame. Anyway, tomorrow is Friday and I didn't see a ton of really great setups but there are a few things that might take off. Sometimes these things that are right on the verge of breaking out will wait until Monday as people don't want to buy/hold over the weekend or maybe just aren't paying attention cause it's Friday (I am usually the latter, lol). So I don't usually like trading breakout type stocks on Friday especially in a weak market, but after the weekend news comes out and everyone gets all pumped up to buy on Monday morning sometimes first thing on Monday they will go crazy! Here's my list for tomorrow:
ECOM - This is my favorite type of setup. I'm not completely convinced it's ready yet but if this is weak in the morning and then goes red to green through $10.13 it could get moving. $10.50 will be the key as over that it's into this huge gap and probably has no major resistance until $12. So I'll be watching for a weakish open and will see if it holds $10 and then gets some buyers. If I see a volume push off of $10 I will grab some and risk 10-15c under $10.00 w/ the goal being for it to bust that $10.50 and get into the gap.
SIGM - This broke out over $7.30 as I expected but also as I expected, I missed it because I was focused on shorting the turd that is RDUS, lol. That being said it didn't TRULY break out today and encountered a pretty solid wall of resistance right at $7.50 intraday so I think if it breaks that and holds it will run a lot more. So I'll be watching this to see how it opens. Ideally it opens a bit under $7.50 and gives a chance to get in before it breaks, however it could gap up and if that's the case I will be using $7.50 as the support and/or stop loss to buy the first dip.
ARQL - As expected this wasn't done yesterday...these things never stop after just one day once they have a consolidation like this one did. However it started to crack at the end of the day today so I will be watching for it to go parabolic over $2 in the morning and start shorting with risk probably against the $2.30-2.40 area. If it gaps down I will use $2.00-2.10 as the risk level to short against. If it gaps down too much I will leave it alone. It's up a lot but not THAT much, so not worth chasing it.
AMRS - Same idea as ARQL...it wasn't done and I still don't think it is. Probably at this point it has a magnet for the 200dma at $3.12. So I will consider starting to short this if it goes parabolic through $3.10. I think it's risky to short this under $3 thinking it will roll over under $3 with the 200dma sitting right overhead...it prob overshoots that a bit to $3.15-3.20 and then fades back to it or under it. So I'll be looking for a parabolic to $3.10-3.20 to start short and will risk up to $3.40-3.50, though I would be mildly surprised if it got that high.
CYTX - Another parabolic that seems to have had its blowoff today. I believe there will probably be some residual buying the morning maybe to $1.30-1.40 but I suspect it fades. That area would be nearly a triple in just a couple weeks, so it is very extended. That said, I will be careful because sometimes these suckers can surprise you!
Some other things I have on the back burner still:
- CYTR started to break $3.30 today. Might continue
- THLD flagging
- CYCC possible red to green
- KBIO possible r/g though I probably won't trade this cause it will cost me a fortune in ECN fees, lol
- RGDO possible r/g
- GLDD possible bounce ... watching for drop toward $6 to get long risking a few pennies under $6 and goal being to break $6.20 for $6.40-6.50 target. Note this is down 3 days in a row but it's not parabolic so if it does bounce it probably won't be too strong, more likely a grinder.
Alright that's all I got. Happy money making :)
Chris

Stocks I'm watching tomorrow 2/26/15
Yo yo! Had some fun today w/ Career Day (here are some pics of thank you cards from the kids which made my day!!) but trading was flat since I missed the morning and as expected, couldn't really find anything worth buying/shorting. I did take a few trades (MPC short at 104.58, covered 104.04, ANTH long $4.99, sold for loss 4.90, and BIOC long 4.67 and sold for loss 4.58) so basically just burned commission, lol. Good news is my swings were working a bit so I was able to account for the losses by unloading my swings in VG and LF. Don't get me wrong, they are still VERY much in play but toward the end of the day I really didn't like what SPY did w/ that big selloff so I took off my swings in preparation for some pullback in the market. So right now I am all cash and for VG, LF and IMGN I am going to keep them on radar for day trades.
As far as my scans go...there are basically a whole shit ton of "well, maybe this will work..." stocks on my list. Nothing really convincing, lol. So I am going to probably just sit on my hands unless I see something I REALLY like (mostly stuff I've already been watching). Regardless, here are my main ideas:
RDUS - Planning a short on this daily bear flag similar to how INO looked a couple days ago. I'd love to see a morning push to $46.40-46.80 to get a starter going. initial risk would be prob a buck or so. $47.50 stop give or take. Then once it starts to roll over, I would be looking for lower highs and weakness in the market to carry it down to $45 where the real breakdown lies. I'd like for my avg price to be over $46 by the time it gets to the low $45s but am not opposed to changing it up a bit like I had to on INO, as long as it is well behaved. Gonna have to play it dynamically, but I think if this takes out $45 it could see $43.30s pretty quickly.
GAS - Another short though the pattern's a bit looser. I'd like a push to $50 and would like to see how it acts there to decide whether $50 will provide resistance. If so, that would be a decent place to start shorting w/ risk to $50.50 or so. Until it breaks $49.41 this is really a 1:1 trade, so treat it as such.
SEE - This bounced into the close back toward the 50ema intraday which I like to use as a guide for trend following. A move toward $47.80 on the 15 min chart would put it pretty overbought and extended on the 5 min so any move from $47.50 toward $47.80 can be looked at as a short. at that point the r/r is pretty solid and as long as it starts putting in lower highs I would keep my stop right over $48. From the .80 mark I can see this testing $47.00 pretty quickly. Under $47 I think it can see $46.40s.
Since the market is pretty shaky up here, I'm going to keep it to just these three for tomorrow. I do still have other stuff on my list but most of it I have either already talked about or it's just not worth the risk w/ the market at highs. I'll give a few other tickers but not going to go into detailed plans on them so if you want to trade them, please have your own plan!
- VG for day trades
- LF for day trades
- CYTR watching for volume and break of $3.30
- BTU watching for $8 break
- SIGM still on radar for $7.35-7.50 break
- EPRS up 100% in just a couple weeks so I'd call it parabolic, tho the pattern is sloppy so no plans to trade it (yet)
- AMRS, NES, ARQL, VLCCF possible red to green
- CDXC flagging and I think it can go higher over $1.45 (keep in mind this is also up a lot in a very short amount of time so breakdowns will be fast and furious)
- HMNY parabolic short (very risky stock, do not recommend you trade this unless you have played a lot of parabolics)
- LL possible green to red for $50 breakdown
Ok that's it! Have fun!
Chris

Stocks I'm watching tomorrow 2/25/15
Hey everyone! Hope y'all had a good day. Was a solid day for me w/ my biggest trade being INO short from $6.77 and covering $6.50, $6.49, $6.46 and $6.37. I did take a few other trades (CPRX long at 3.67, CYTR long at $3.23, HELI long at $2.27) but most of them just kinda farted around so I sold them flat or for small gains. I took one loss on MPC short at $105.25 (covered at $105.42) and actually it worked but I didn't really like my entry on it so I decided to cut the loss. I also initiated a new swing on LF at $2.59. Anyway overall good day. Tomorrow I will be out for the morning because I am doing Career Day at a school and gonna teach a bunch of kids about the stock market and what it's like to be a trader! Haha so that should be fun and also should get some funny and insightful questions hopefully, but I will be out cause it's from 8-10am so I will prob be back to trading like 11am. That being said I may not trade much tomorrow since most money I make is usually in the morning, but I'll make a quick list here anyway.
INO - This was my main winner today. I think it goes lower but it needed a rest first. Based on the 30 min chart I would reshort this in the $6.65-6.70 area with a stop $6.80-6.90. There is no support until like 4 bucks so it can go much lower but entry is important because it's a bit stretched right now. Don't short it on weakness, best to catch a bounce on it.
CPRX - Nice move from my list last night over the $3.60 area just like I suspected. I missed the first entry but tried it at $3.67 and it ended up getting stuck so I took it off at $3.70. Admittedly I could have held for a swing but I don't like to get too many positions going at once. Anyway if this can pull back and hold the $3.68-3.65 area then it can go red to green and hit $4 fairly easily IMO.
HELI - Nice push on this today. Again I had it at $2.27 but didn't like my entry enough to swing. I think before it breaks $2.50 it will need to fart around a bit but if you can keep your risk low enough that $2.50 gives you good r/r then it can be played on a dip tomorrow. It's a bit thin so be careful. I personally won't play it for a few days.
CHGG - Nice earnings today and closed very strong. Usually when a stock rips like this and closes right on highs it will gap up in the morning. If the gap isn't too strong or if it gaps down slightly it can go red to green and take out today's high. If it gaps up and pulls back starting to find support near today's high then it can be played w/ risk against the low once it puts in a higher low. I could see this go to $9-9.20 tomorrow.
BTU - Energy name that looks like it is bottoming a bit. I could see buying this on a pullback to the $7.60-$7.70 area and risking to under $7.30 for an $8 breakout. Just realize these types of stocks are heavily affected by what SPY and the major market ETFs do so if SPY is a sloppy mess like it was for most of the morning today I would leave it alone. These are best to play when you have a strong trend in the ETF they are related to.
SIGM - Final idea: Nice breakout today over $7. This has a big weekly breakout in the $7.30-$7.50 area and over that has no major resistance until high $8s. Ideal entry on this would be to see it hold $7.20 in the morning and go red to green. However, I would not be opposed to buying it if it doesn't hold 7.20 and flushes to $7.10-7.00...if that happens though there's a chance it could just fade back and stick at $6.90-7 so probability is reduced in that case. If you look at the run leading into this big flag in late December though you can see it has a tendency to go on big multi-day runs. Anyway that would be my plan...if it holds $7.20 then r/g through highs and risk against $7.20. Otherwise buy $7.00-7.10 and risk $6.75 or so. Scenario 1 is ideal.
I also still have my VG swing which I think is getting very close at this point. $4.61 is the breakout and this may go tomorrow. LF also over $2.61 should get moving. I still have CYTR on watch for a move over $3.30. It tried today but couldn't get through. And lastly I added VHC to the list just to watch for now. I like the way this daily is setting up but it's still too rangey for me right now.
Hope everyone has fun and I'll post again tomorrow hopefully!
Chris

2/25 Watchlist
Quick summary: Their is some days were there is not much to watch. Tomorrow is one of those days. I will be adding more gappers tomorrow morning.
2/25 Watchlist
CAPN is a low float stock which had a weak close on Tuesday. I am anticipating a washout to the 6 - .25 mark and expecting a bounce. I will only be shorting parabolic moves because I want to avoid traps midday. Do not add to losses.
BIOC #1 Watch: is another float rotation stock, very very tricky. Only shorting parabolic moves to whole/half dollar marks. I will at no point be shorting the "back side of move". Expecting a parabolic past 3.5 to the 3.75 - 4 range. Will add to pops.
HMNY is a likely a pump and dump. With only 357.02K Float and 84.66% held by insiders, I think it is pretty safe to say that this could run up a lot. I will be using 3.50 as a guide throughout the day.
VPCO is a vaper company. I thought this stock was worth like .30 cents but whatever. Expecting one of 2 things to happen. Ideally stock parabolics past 1.50 and I will begin to short at any sign of weakness (likely around the .70 - 90 level). Where I will add to pops. Or the stock will washout and I will ignore it.
APRI has a very clean trend. Ideally it will parabolic move past 2.5, which it likely holding up around the .60-.70 range. Will be shorting the back side of move on this stock if the opportunity presents itself.
CHGG is up on so much good news. Good earning and after a news report that said (morning market trading Tuesday after the company said that Ingram Content Group will be taking over the textbook rental business as of May 1). Thought I would throw this on here incase anyone had any plans of longterm buying.
Note: Simple list today, nothing very out of the ordinary. Let me know if you are shorting/buying any of these stocks!
Good luck!

2/24 Watchlist
2/24 Watchlist
GENE is a dead pump bounce. I do not want to get in UNLESS it parabolics to the 7.50 range. The higher it goes the better.
CAPN is another low float stock which leaves it open for traps. Using 7.50 as a guide. Absolutely do not add to losing positions. ONLY SHORTING PARABOLIC MOVES!!!
GBSN anticipating a washout. Will trade around how the stock reacts to the 3 mark. Setting my risk at 3.50 over and under. I want to see it washout below 3 and risk on it for the day.
BIOC is another float rotation stock (a lot of these lately). Expecting a morning parabolic to 3 and use it as a guide to risk thoughout the day.
RIGL gapped up and crapped out. Not a float rotation stock. Lots of volume so a washout below 3 is what I would be looking for here. I will not trade this stock unless it washes out.
SGNL I will buy the bounce if a trend forms because a lot of people would be anticipating a bounce after such a huge runup.
Any stock you trading on here? Let me know! Do you agree with my plan on these trades tomorrow? Let me know!
This will be my last watchlist posted on here this week!

Newbie question: Quarterly earning reports
Hi everyone,
I'm curious for mid to long term investors, do you try to buy stocks that are undervalued prior to earning reports and bet that your stock value will go up significantly after a very positive report? And is this a common effective strategy?
Cheers!

Can you please help me to understand 'options'
I get the basic concept. "I promise to sell you 100 shares of X at price Y if you pay me Z up front" but what is a bid price and an ask price? And what are the different strategies when buying and selling options? Is it common to buy an option and sit it out til near the expiration date and then either buy the stock or0 let it expire? Or is it more common to buy an option and then resell that option at either a small profit or small loss?

Stocks I'm watching tomorrow 2/24/15
Hey hey! Gonna do my watchlist here again instead of on Twitter since we got some good discussion going last night. I had a pretty good day. CYBR and OCN were my favorite shorts but both were busted by a gap (OCN up and CYBR down) so I didn't take either, even though the both worked lol. I did end up taking ZIOP long at 9.86 and sold 10.06, 10.26 and 10.41. I also found an intraday spike in VPCO but it didn't really follow through so I sold it for a nickel or so. Overall it was kinda what I expected for the day. since we had a huge day in SPY on Friday and usually after that kinda day you will just get a tight range day like we got today. So that being said there weren't a ton of opportunities from my watchlist and had to play stuff that was in the news like BIOC, RIGL, etc. Anyway no big deal...like I said had a nice day and just took those two trades. I wiped a lot of the ideas from last night's watchlist because they just kinda farted around today and messed up the charts, but just because they're not on tonight's doesn't mean I've stopped watching them. This is just kinda what happens when you're a day trader...you look at stuff, build a plan, it changes from day to day and some things work and some you just forget about. Anyway, IMGN and VG are still on the list as I still have swings in them and still plan to add to VG (haven't added any more yet) and let IMGN run over $8. HELI and LF still in play but I took them off to remain focused on what's ready immediately. XOMA, THRX, PRSS, MTL all worked for shorts today so those plays are over for me. ECOM I removed cause it broke $9.50 and I no longer like the pattern. TKMR same thing...really don't like it much for a bounce anymore. Ok, so onto tonight's list!
INO - This is my favorite. I'd like to see a gap up and or bounce in the morning toward $6.90 to $7.00 to get short. Risk is pretty low w/ stop loss right above $7.15 and target low 6's once it breaks the base at $6.65 on the daily chart. Of all the things on my list this is probably the only one that looks immediately actionable tomorrow. If I wake up and find this at $6.90 to $7 in premarket I will start in short there and add throughout the day as it fades
CPRX - This had a really nice run over $3.00 and went parabolic toward $4. Now it's just consolidating that big move at its previous weekly high around $3.60. I'll be watching for any volume in this to take it through that $3.60 area with a target of $4+. Pay close attention around the round number at $3.50 as often that's where these will break out.
CYTR - Not ready yet, but seems to be getting close. I set an alert over $3.22. The breakout is over $3.30 with $3.55-3.70 target if day trading, maybe $4+ if swinging. Like CPRX I will be watching for any volume push intraday to go long. If I happen to miss the spike, then I will buy the first dip toward $3.30 as long as it doesn't go too far toward the target.
CAPN, ANTH - Both of these are wild stocks and can squeeze like crazy. If you're not experienced I recommend you definitely do NOT trade CAPN. ANTH might be ok but you still should have a good amount of experience w/ risk management and handling wild stocks like this. For these I will just be watching for intraday setups. I don't have a plan on them specifically right now because they don't have any defined risk levels. Maybe $4.80-$4.85 area on ANTH would be an ok entry for a red to green move. If you don't know what a red to green move is or how to trade one, it's prob best to just stay away, watch and learn. Most likely I will leave these alone until they settle down in the morning for a couple reasons: 1) the spread will be huge and they will be extremely volatile and risky and 2) I'll be focused on shorting INO lol
ADHD - Last one! It's still a bit choppy intraday but I'm watching the $7.80 level to break and hold. If it does hold then I will play the $8 breakout with risk toward $7.80 and plan to sell into the gap. This can be either a day trade or a swing trade depending on how you play it. If swing trade, maybe watch to see if it will hold $7 and grab entry as close to there as possible with your risk under $7. If day trading it, like I said probably $7.80 will get it moving and risk to $7.80 if buying the $8 breakout, or $7.40 if anticipating at $7.80.
Hope everyone had a good day. Feel free to ask questions!

What is the general consensus on Bill Ackman and his Pershing Square Holdings Ltd Fund ?
Bill Ackman recently announced Pershing Square Holdings European fund (PSH:NA)as a public offering - or something like that. His Pershing Square Capital Management hedge fund company did very well last year. Also, so far it seems he was right about Herbal Life and some other things in the past.
What do reddit stockmarket folk think about him ? Also, is his European stock worth investing in ?

How do I figure out if a companies stock price is overvalued or undervalued compared to the companies worth?
I hope that question makes sense, and I hope I worded it right. I see all the time how people make the remark of it being overvalued, so what is the formula to figure that out? Is this the same as P/E Ratio? I'm still trying to understand that as well. I'm really not good at all the terms yet.
I tried to Google this question but wasn't having any luck. Thanks for the info!

Made a dumb/risky trade that didn't pay out, help me get back to even.
Hello all, first post in /r/Stockmarket, and a n00b to reddit too.
12/01/14 I wrote a naked put on $GPRO, strike @70.. $GPRO was around $77. A day or two after I did it really went against me... I rolled down and out towards the end of the month to 67.5. I was just assigned 2/21/15 100 shares of $GPRO, which is what I wanted to begin with (or else I wouldn't have wrote the put) Now, I'm in $GPRO $6,750 and the stock is trading at $45. This sucks. I could chalk it up as a lesson, or I could attempt to earn some $ back.
As everyone who follows $GPRO knows, it's extremely volatile, making options premiums high.. was thinking of writing two OTM calls, and buying one ITM call, collecting the premium and hoping the stock rallies... in essence lowering my cost basis...
Another thing, I just purchased a house, I kind of wanted to liquidate some of my short term investments for home purchases...
What would be better? Cut my losses? Or write a bunch of covered calls and try to earn back some lost $
thanks all!

Ok It's been a while...why the heck not?! Stocks I'm watching tomorrow!
So it's been a while since I posted one of these but I've been more active on Reddit the last few days and decided I'd give y'all some ideas for the upcoming days. Just some stuff I'm watching. For those who don't know I used to do these every night but I kinda fell out of it cause I got pretty busy with trading and mentoring and crap so I resorted to posting mostly on Twitter (@ckz8780 if you wanna follow me in case I go missing here again, lol). Anyway I'm a full time trader and I trade a mix of day/swing trading in momentum stocks, mostly lower priced but not opposed or biased in any case really. I don't do options or futures or any of that...just equities and only momentum names...no boring crap like MSFT or GE or stuff that I need to hold for 20 yrs to see a gain, lol. Ok so here we go...here are some ideas!
VG - If this breaks over $4.60 it could get some legs to move up toward $5.00 I have a small starter position at $4.59 but anticipate I'll probably need to add more on Monday and/or Tuesday maybe in the $4.30-$4.40 range, but either way just getting started into it. I chased a little on the entry so I just bought a small piece and will average in to get my average where I want it w/ my full size position! Ideally that would be maybe like $4.35-4.45 with a stop loss under $4.20 or so. If it takes out $5 it could get jiggy!
LF - I like this for a bounce toward $3 if it gets over $2.61. There were some good sized blocks sitting at $2.60 on Friday but it couldn't get through them. Anyway looks like an easy push toward $3 if it can take out that area and if it goes it should go all in 1-2 days so the stop can be tight, right under $2.50 ideally. Don't chase this too high off this idea, cause these types of trades usually just spike and then fizzle. If you can't day trade or plan to buy this at $2.98 and expect it to run to 4 bucks it's prob not gonna happen! Just a quick play from $2.60 to $3, in and out!
IMGN - I'm already long from $7.45 on this and plan to sell some around $7.95, then again $8.45, and final piece $8.50-$9.00. The reason I'm putting it on this list is that if it takes out $7.55 to the downside it could give an opportunity to snag it in the $7.30-$7.40 area if anyone wanted to join in. My stop is right under $7.20. If it holds $7.55 and can break the recent daily high ($7.75) with force and close strong then I will tighten my stop to break even and just let it ride. If it does drop $7.55 and return to my buy price I will add more but will keep stop loss the same. Not adding any additional risk really just thinking if it comes back I can pick up a few more shares around the same price and consider it a freebie!
HELI - Similar plan to LF. I like how this closed on Friday and could see it take out $2.40 and push to $2.75 or so. The only thing I don't like on this one is it was a bit extended at the close on Friday so I would like to see a pullback to the $2.20 area to enter. This can either be for a day trade or a swing. If I can catch entry $2.20-2.25 and risk to under $2, it gives me a solid reward to risk taking partial profits around $2.50 and the rest $2.75-$3.
XOMA, CYBR, THRX, OCN, PRSS, MTL - All of these are getting very extended on their daily charts. Usually when you see a stock go straight up like this for 7, 8, 10, 12 days in a row or rise very quickly 50% or 75% or more in just a few days, they will have a quick snapback (these moves are usually called parabolics, since they resemble a parabola). Anyway the idea is to start into a small short position on the way up and then add to your position once the stock confirms it is starting to weaken intraday and you can more clearly define your risk. So I will be watching all of these for parabolic short entries in the next few days since they're all getting up there pretty good, and the market itself (SPY, QQQ, DIA, IWM, etc) is also now green 7-8 days in a row and extended into all time highs. These things need a rest and I will be there to short them as they weaken a bit. Just some arbitrary ideas for numbers I think they may start to weaken (and these will change daily depending on how they act, but these are my initial thoughts): THRX around $20, XOMA maybe $4.20-$4.40, CYBR $75-$80, MTL $1.90-$2.00, PRSS $4.00-$4.15, OCN $10.10-$10.30. Some of them are already starting to show weakness (MTL and OCN) so I'm more likely to start into those and just watch the others. I wouldn't mind shorting a bounce on OCN in the morning up toward $10-10.20 with my goal being to just let it roll over, take out Friday's low and fade to $9, $8.50...wherever it wants to go. MTL same deal, I wouldn't mind a short in the $1.90-$2.00 area or possibly even a gap up to $1.85 and just risk a nickel or a dime or so. By far the riskiest of these plays is CYBR so I will be VERY cautious on that one and am more likely to wait until after it shows weakness to try shorting it than to anticipate it...this could easily go to $90-100 since it's very low float and it's a hype stock. I wouldn't really recommend anyone trade these types of plays unless you have a good amount of experience but thought I'd throw them out there for the more advanced guys/girls if they are interested!
ZIOP - This one's just kinda grinding along on the daily, but seems to behave well intraday. I am just keeping it on watch for a break over $10. If it starts making higher lows on a 15min or 30min chart off this $9.30 area, I may snag a few shares in anticipation of the $10 break and risk down to $9.00 or so. It's more of just a trend play on the daily than anything, so just pick some area where you can clearly define your risk and start in small in case it goes against you so you can stomach a bit of fluctuation until it (hopefully) breaks $10.
ECOM - I don't think this is ready yet, but it's kind of a similar play to LF and HELI. It' s just totally smoked out on the daily and intraday it seems to have sort of found a bottom, so I'm thinking when it takes out $10 and holds it will probably start to fill this big gap a little bit. Again I don't really go for a huge gain on these types of trades ... maybe a quick pop to $11-12 and then take it off. I'm not looking to get rich, just take my profit and move onto the next w/ minimal stress. Anyway just something to keep an eye on, especially around $10.00
TKMR - Ok this is my last idea for now...this is now red 8 days in a row and sitting right on top of its major moving averages so just like a parabolic short will fade back a bit after being up 7-8 days in a row, the opposite is usually true too: I feel it's probably due for a small bounce soon. It was showing some strength intraday on Friday so if it can pull back and hold $19.50-$19.60 that might be a nice entry point with risk down to under Friday's low (say $19.20 or so to make it simple). If it can take out and hold above $20 I could see this bounce for a few days toward $21-22. Only thing I'll say is remember that SPY and the rest of the market is pretty extended so if the market pulls back and you're long TKMR you may end up fighting the general trend which is always annoying. I feel the same about VG, LF, IMGN and my other long ideas...it sucks to be long a bunch of stocks when the market is pegged at all time highs but if the stock itself is strong then the market will not have as much bearing on it.
Again guys/girls these are JUST ideas and I may/may not trade these. Just cause I posted them here doesn't mean I'm buying/shorting them. I trade different stuff every day but always have this mentality of having a plan on a number of stocks so that I can always capitalize on opportunities when they arise.
As always feel free to ask questions or PM me if you wanna learn more about how I pick these stocks or what my thought process is. I'm always willing to help and there is no such thing as a stupid question! Only thing I will NOT answer is "what are your thoughts on [insert stock here]?" - tell me your plan on it, what you're thinking...where you want to buy it, why, what your target is, where your stop loss would be, etc and I will tell you if I agree or what my thoughts are on it. There are a billion ways to make money in the market; what matters is that you have a plan so as long as you have a plan you can trade whatever you want however you see fit!
Hope this helps and I'll try to do some more of these posts in the future ... Also I've been working on my new site so hopefully that will be up soon and I can start blogging these ideas nightly again. Until then feel free to just follow me on Twitter or message me / reply here and I'll offer my thoughts on whatever you need!
Good luck to all!

First time investor... need help in learning about the field and what do you think about this bullish stock
Hi everyone,
I'm a first time investor and I've been trying to learn as many things related to stocks as possible. What I gather are 5 important areas to look at for investing in a company:
- P/E ratio
- Health of company (any debts?)
- What is it's future like?... how much can it grow?
- Any dividends
- And what is it's track record like... in the past... how successful it is
Let me know if my line is thinking about stocks is correct and what other areas should I look at. I'm not planning to be a day to day trader but more in terms of months to years trader.
I'm also willing to take a lot of risk in investing in companies with a lot of potential. So I'm willing to bet on this stock: http://ift.tt/1LrLkk1.
So using my line of thinking:
- The P/E ratio is low compared to other mobile gaming companies.
- The company has no debts
- Lots of potential in China's mobile gaming industry
- No dividens
- Not much history... relatively new company.
What do you guys think? I'm still new at this and I expect to be bashed for my noobish mindset. But I'm eager to learn.
Cheers!

The title is pretty much it. I've been trying to learn as much as I can over the past couple of months, but you have to admit this is all a little overwhelming. I have a hard time learning all the terms, what the various graphs represent, and just the lingo in general so I need a book that will explain all that, and teach me the fundamentals.
I'm not looking to get rick quick, and I'm aware of "don't invest anything you cant afford to lose", but this is something I would love to learn about and start doing. With that said, has anyone read these books or have an opinion on better ones I could buy?
Here are a couple of books I was thinking about ordering:
Stock Market Trading for Dummies
The Neatest Little Guide to Stock Market Investing
Stock Market Investing for Beginners
Thanks so much!

How do you guys get limit orders to fill?
Ive been trading etf indexes like vix and crude. soon as my stop hits (which is where i also set my limit), price goes up and passes me by. i know i can buy market and i know i can raise my limit. but why can i rarely buy right at my stop? do i need to reduce size to 100 or smaller, and do multiple buys? i keep having to increase my limit to fill after stop is triggered.
i have Smart routing enabled with IB. is this the best method? or should i route directly to a particular exchange.i noticed IB also has a setting to prioritize fill. any experience with the various Smart routing types?
help in any way (pm if youd rather) is most gratefully appreciated. sorry for the dumb questions. thank you

My Stocks and why
Hey guys just wondering if you could tell me what you think. I'm 18, I have no expenditures. I wanted to play it a bit more risky. Here's why I'm in each stock:
LNVGY: Releasing a lot of new products (spanning a wide price range for everyone), Motorolla should become profitable soon and is re-entering china. I'm expecting a pretty good year for them in general.
HRB: Tax season, its the first time anyone has to deal with Affordable care act in their taxes so their business should rise
DD: Nelson Peltz has an amazing track record with companies (Wendys for example). Also, hes trying to split Dupont which would be a best case scenario.
AAPL: Obvious reasons
WEN: They plan to reduce corporate owned stores to 5% by the end of the year, allowing more franchisees to come in. This will help boost the price, and I think Wendys will benefit from lower gas prices
LQ: This was probably my most stupid purchase. They're a US hotel chain that I think has growth in the long term. I bought them based on expansion plans for this year.
WFM: Massive expansion this year. Lower gas prices also means more people will spend here. But mostly they're expanding and I personally know that a lot of people who shop there live by them.
LUV: Again, MASSIVE expansion. I've taken a hit because I wasn't smart enough to wait for them to bottom out but I know in the long term I should see this stock provide some nice returns.
Any other questions or things I forgot to include, ask!

Where can I find a company's guidance?
Is the guidance a section in quarterly earnings report or a separate SEC filing document? Or maybe it's not even a document or section in the document, it's just a few words about the outlook provided by the spokesperson in the earnings conference call?

Anyone following Molycorp (MCP)? It's on a huge upswing over the past week! Future potential?
Molycorp mines for Rare Earth metals, which are necessary for the production of cell phones and many other devices. There have been posts in the past about this company, dating back a year or more, and since that time it has been beaten down by sluggish results/internal problems. The company has potential though, and seems to be rebounding a bit, with some good news: http://ift.tt/1HKBN9j
Any thoughts on this company and Rare Earth mining in general?

KING +17% after earnings

Oh, and one other key difference: King announced a special dividend of $0.94 per share.

Our full year and fourth quarter 2014 results demonstrate the strength of our franchises, the extraordinary power of our massive player network and our ability to repeatedly launch new top grossing games.

Crude oil
The long-dated futures contracts, which are more telling than spot prices (dailies), say that it's not really a good bet that oil will decline much more, or that it will rebound quickly. In other words, the truth lies somewhere in the middle ... a bottoming process seems to have begun, but bottoming processes can go on for months.
