Hi everyone 👋🏻,
I’m new to the community, and I was hoping I could ask if anyone had any experience trading on Robinhood? If yes, what can you say about your experience, good or bad, and about how viable an option it would be to invest there.
Thanks!
Newbie here. Can I know which is the most reliable and accurate method(s) used to value a stock fair value ? i.e the one used by big banks and investment firms.
When people talk about Vanguard indexes funds, do you set up a Vanguard account and pay their .25 fee or whatever or do you purchase thru Charles Schwab or whomever you have and buy the indexed Vanguard stock/symbol?
Hi,
I'm reading Mauboussin's paper named "What Does a P/E Multiple Mean?" and I can't figure out how he came with the P/Es shown in Exhibit 5 of the paper.
Does anyone could give me the formula and a step-by-step calculation to illustrate ?
Thanks.
Here is the link to the paper : https://www.valuewalk.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/document-805915460.pdf
I’m trying to put a decent amount of my savings into apple or amazon, they’ve been growing like crazy for the past 5 years and I can’t imagine they decline unless the whole market corrects. Thank you so much :)
Hello Reddit!
I have recently decided to embark on a journey towards day trading. I'm still in the 'information gathering' phase, and I've opened an account. Instead of doing things the right way (due diligence, paper trading accounts, any serious kind of technical analysis, screening, etc...), I bought 1000 shares @ 0.40$US/share of a company called Tidal Royalty. They provide funding for startups in the American marijuana industry, in exchange for a % of the company's profits. I bought this because I got an emailed "Alert" from a company that claimed it may be the "next big Netflix" stock. So I used my "gut" (stupid mistake, never again!!) and spent 400$US. Since then it dropped about 50%, so I'm down 200$US. I feel gutted, stupid and never will I buy a stock based on hype, ONE article I read online, and with so much emotion. I wanted quick easy money and instead I lost 200 bucks. I did learn a valuable lesson however, and I'm glad I did so early and without having lost too much $$. I do feel like the article was just sent out as a way to influence dumb "traders" like myself.
With this said, does anyone have any advice for a young and inexperienced trading "student" (I wouldn't dare call myself a trader yet)? Also, what should I do with the 1000 shares I still have in this company? ANY advice would help!!!
Musk gets a slap on the wrist. source
Anyone think this will return the stock to normal or cause the share price to go even higher.
Anyone Buying In?
1) how much money do professional day traders usually trade with? $10,000 trades? $20,000? What number do these individuals work with at the minimum to make effective profits?
2) how much are these individuals making from day trading professionally per week, on average or even just a educated estimate.
I’m trying to save up and learn more about the market so I can invest effectively in the day trade game
Apple will buy Tesla to stay relevant. Got $100 on it.
If there's a crisis or the broker just goes bust it's important that my shares are really out there on my name. I read that some brokers are buying only "in the house" which as I understand they are a proxy brokers and buy these shares from main exchanges like NSE, NASDAQ etc. but some of them just pretend that they buy these shares but the offer never really hits the main market. Besides transfering my shares to a different broker can I somehow easilly check if the shares really exist on my name?
hi guys i'm from Iran and i want to explain the current situation of Iran's stock market, right know our currency (Rial) has lost lots of it's value compared to foreign currencies. for example a few months ago an employee's average monthly income was nearly 250-300 $ but right know it's something around 75-90 $.
despite that, our stock market has seen it's biggest growth in these few months. there are stocks that have given more than 150% profit only in one month! (check this stock for example)
just take a look at our heatmap to see how it goes, almost all the stocks are green!
the cool thing is most of these give a maximum of 10% profit per day, there are some other risky stocks that even give +48% profit in just one day. this situation has caused all the people to bring their money in stock market and therefore our stock market index is rising more and more each day.
Thank you for reading this, i just wanted to spread some information!
With Snapchat and Tesla for sale, could this be a good time to invest?
A friend sent me this and found it amusing. In just over two days this guy goes from happy to sad to happy again.
I'm an aspiring investment fund manager, and I've been reading a lot of books on analysis of stocks. How do I know when I'm ready to start actually analyzing stocks in real life? I'm anxious to get some experience, but it still seems so overwhelming. I can't even imagine how I'm supposed to keep up with all the other managers, when I'm just a 16 year old who's read a few books. I don't expect to immediately outperform the market and all the other managers at 16 of course, but I'm just not sure when I'll be ready.
TL;DR: How will I know when I'm ready to stop reading books and start analyzing stocks in the real world?

What's everyone's opinion on what's happening with Facebook? Obviously, the news of being hacked doesn't help. I'm thinking of picking up some shares soon. It looks like it might dip a little more on Monday.
What do you think of it as a stock.
What’s the highest a share of Apple has topped out at? For instance, it’s $225 a share right now. Any possibility a share will go up to $1,000?

FAANGM stocks have seen their market cap share triple to 17%. Eerily similar to the late 90s when MSFT, INTC, LU, CSCO, ORCL & DELL - saw their share peak at 17% too. Look what happened next - as the Fed, who helped create the bubble, destroyed it in the ensuing rate-hiking cycle
How do you think the FAANGM stocks will fare in the future? Do you have overexposure to them, or do you prefer to invest in the S&P 500 as a whole?
I have shirt one HUNDERED dollars to invest in stock. I want to just have it grow right now and not risk it all like in an option. I'm also interested in a lower expensive stock like around 5-10 dollars.

The rise in vegetarianism/veganism combined with my interest in lab grown meat has made me think about looking to invest in the area. Does anyone know of any of the companies working on it that I can buy shares in?
Hello, as the title suggests, I'm looking for a few stocks to get my hands on. My goal right now is to find a high yielding dividend stock to provide a steady return as I make my way through college. I'm doing my best not to speculate, and read as many articles as possible to find some undervalued dividend stocks and a few long term growth stocks. I have $5000 I'm willing to tuck away into something. Any suggestions on what I maybe should keep an eye on for a buying opportunity? I have a long way ahead of me for learning, so thanks in advance.
If you are an advanced stock-trader or even just paving your way at the beginning, you should be able to calculate the support, resistance and Pivot points to be able to do efficient and profitable decision.
I found an application on app store called, Support and Resistance Pro, which facilitates all of these calculations, you just have to enter the meta-stock files and let the app do its magic. The simplicity of the app design and instructions saves your time and give you immediate results within seconds so that you can even use it in the trading process.
here's the app store link if you are interested;

Say a company issues you, as a benefit or compensation, shares in the company. You have a certificate for say 10,000 shares when it was trading at $1. Did the company pay anything to generate those 10,000 shares? What gave it value?
The best I can guess is that the company has an initial valuation and the amount of stock available at the initial selling price totals that valuation. The shares are essentially worthless in terms of value (except for maybe par value?), but the shares give either a chance to benefit from a companies success.
When an employee is given stock as compensation, I'm curious if the company pays anything for it, or if they are just transferring a portion of the company ownership. And if you sell it, how does that effect the company - do they have costs associated with such trades?

This one focuses more on Investing psychology and goes in depth on Warren Buffett’s fictional business partner Mr. Market. I hope you enjoy, comment your thoughts below!

What is on everyone's radar for today's trading day ahead here at r/StockMarket?
DGAZ has recently been oversold and seems to be coming back for a reversal. It has hit a support level and is in the consolidation stage of a reversal. Anyone else watching this?
Potential margin per share: 2$ up to a previous support level which is now the resistance
For the last couple of years Apple sells 200+ million iPhones a year right? That's more than 1/3 people in the U.S buying new iPhones or 1/30 people buying new iPhones every year around the world. Apple also makes net income of $40- 50 billion a year. Wouldn't that be higher if they're selling 200+ million iPhones @ $700-900 per phone per year though? But I digress. For them to grow even more, how many people on earth would have to buy new apple products not just iPhone per year and is that realistic?
I see an underlying trend in this sub of people asking about individual stocks. Are we creating a community of indirect predictive investing?
Edit: This post is simply an investing r/ShowerThought
Thought it was going to be huge, was I wrong ?
Elon musk gets charges filed against him for fraud. Stock down 12% as of now.
Anyone buying the dip? I'm wondering if it would it be a good buy opportunity..
Just wondering if there is any realtime stock screener? Cheaper would be better. With mobile app would be the best.

Hey guys.. I woke up today and my account was negative. Like most I do deposits but live pretty much paycheck to paycheck. That in mind i was always careful about having the ammount in my account before transfering it over to Robinhood. But this reversal happened.
Has this happening to anyone else? Is it possible it was an error? It said to contact the bank. Was just looking for advice before I do or how you guys have handled this. Thank you!
Should i invest my money before October 17 or after. Would weed stocks sore up high after October 17.
Post got blacklisted on wsb it seems, so here’s this:
BlackBerry. You haven’t seen their phones around in 12 years so they must be a shit company, right?
Maybe. I don’t know.
But what I DO know is that they stopped manufacturing handsets after getting their dicks stomped by Apple and Android in a market BB basically created.
Since the cock stomping, they have pivoted towards one of the juiciest market segments out there right now: the Software Services industry (SaaS). They are riding the ~Internet of Things~ buzzword (creating their coined Enterprise of Things), and hired a real gunslinger in 2013 to switch things up. The CEO is on the board of Disney and Wells Fargo.
With said gunslinger, they have sold and implemented their proprietary EoT software to:
-100% of Fortune 100 commercial banking firms
-100% of Fortune 100 aero/def firms
-100% of Fortune 100 media/entertainment firms
-88% of Fortune 100 medical firms
-77% of Fortune 100 insurance firms
-motherfuckin NVDA
This was all cemented on the Q1 CC, and the stock dropped from $11->sub $10...
I think BB is due for an inevitable return on the SaaS front, the question is... does it start tomorrow?
Only hold ups would be that BB sued FB a while back for taking BBMessenger’s IP for WhatsApp and FBM. FB has now countersued, which doesn’t look good.
——-TLDR STARTS HERE——
With BB having their teeth deeply sunk into the enterprise software market with a growing market share v. IBM/MSFT, I believe we will see them become fruitful this quarter or at least by end of FY19.
Even if the financials aren’t good this Q, we should see some extremely positive guidance unless the FB bullshit is causing them to hemorrhage cash.
I will be instancing vertical debit spreads on BB (long $10, Short $11, exp 11/2) at 3:45pm. Definitely want to fix risk/eliminate Theta&IV here with the off-chance that this has somehow been an earnings run-up.
Thoughts? I’d love an inverse opinion here bc my DD has me noticeably overconfident.

currently at a super cheap price, has some news circulating around it, lots of volume, looks kinda bullish
More passengers & new ships have pushed revenues up over the year. Watch earnings call live with data & analysis
Based on various economic indicators (Consumer Confidence, Initial Claims, AAII cash allocation), the U.S. stock market will probably make a bull market top sometime in 2019 (probably mid-2019)
Im no expert but back of the envelope:
US target market $2 billion still years down the line and uncertain
Assume generous net margin of 25%
Thats earnings of $500 million - many years later, if they win 100% market share which seems optimistic
But if you discount those cash flows 5 or so years it doesnt justify the current mcap.
A real concern is how long for competitors to enter the market? It is after all only (highly) refined fish oil.

So I'm in a high school competition for a stocks trading game. I am COMPLETELY new and have 0 experience with stocks. The game started today and ends mid December (don't remember which day) so I have roughly 4 months. The goal of the game is to make the most amount of gains possible. I have $100k to start for the game. My buying power is $150k (I have no idea what this means)
I did some googling, but there's a lot, and I don't know where to start. Any advice/help available for me? Thanks in advance
Are there any services out there that have algorythm to automatically update every stocks P/E ratio and their P/BV ratio?
Howdy relatively inexperienced investor here using M1. I have my portfolio broken into 3 catagories, 45% big market funds like SPY500, 45% into big companies with good growth that I personally believe in like AMD, Netflix, and Apple, then finally 10% in Marijuana stocks because YOLO.
Anyway, I know big funds like Spy500 and QQQ are already made up of stocks like apple and Microsoft. I like having the bug funds for stability, but the individual stocks have gotten better overall growth. Is it unusual to double dip like that? Recommendations on what to do different?
I've got the same situation in my MJ stocks too.. a large chunk of that is the $MJ fund, then also individual holdings for CGC, TLRY, and others in smaller amounts.
For people looking to get exposure to eSports and gaming, Enthusiast is a pretty interesting and exciting opportunity. They run Canada's largest gaming event, advertising space on over 60 gaming websites, as well as manage ads for multiple other websites in their network. The company makes acquisitions often, and has shown great growth since inception. With blockchain cooled off, and the marijuana space getting exhausting, I think the gaming space deserves a second look. The space has grown exponentially this year and does not show signs of slowing down, and is clearly not just another fad.
Any idea on when the major decent ETF's will be back available in the EU ? like VGT VTI QQQ
I'm in my late 20s and I've dabbled with individual stock trading throughout my 20s. I've had some success and some failure, essentially leaving me at a point where I was breaking even. Granted, I've only been playing with $3,000 of my own money during this time so it's not significant amount of money to me, but enough to potentially make some money, but nothing I'd get upset about if it was gone tomorrow.
In the Fall of 2017, I started researching more into a specific industry and noticed what I thought looked like a pretty significant trend when reviewing the price history of individual stocks. At that point, I decided to dedicate my $3,000 towards seeing if I might be onto something, which started in December 2017.
Fast forward to today and roughly 10 months later, I am up 128% using that strategy. My 128% return has been a gradual climb and it's not like it has all come because of one trade. I am beyond thrilled with how this is going, but I definitely have more funds I could allocate to this that could theoretically allow me to increase my dollar returns.
So like any rational person, I'm turning to the people of the internet to see what they think. Is 10 months a long enough time to have confidence in your trading strategy? Should I up the ante?
Hey all,
I'm wanting to pick your brains on E-Trade stock. I could see "bargain" investment firms gaining popularity with the rise of popularity in free trading platforms such as Robinhood (along with the growing frustrations revolving around these free platforms).
On the other hand, I think we could see other big, higher-end firms enter the bargain trading market as well, much like JPM did recently with their move to a limited number of free trades.
Last point based on fundamentals, $ETFC has earnings coming up and have took a big hit in the last month or so with most of its history looking strong. This recent dip may potentially be a little too big of a reaction from the market?
What're yall's thoughts?
Bought 1000 shares at $6.32 before the run last week. Got really greedy and didn't sell when it hit $9.50. Currently feeling the pain real bad right now. To be honest not really sure what to do. Should I hold till Oct 8th and hop theres good news or cut my losses before it gets real bad?

What is on everyone's radar for today's trading day ahead here at r/StockMarket?
Any thoughts on the effect of Aurora listing on the US market? A) The effect on OTC shares B) The 10% premium proposed price for US shares (around $11)
I see some claiming this:
I've been trading for a few months and I'm about even. I did some hardcore analysis tonight and thought maybe someone would benefit from what I'm finding. I've been buying and holding on to stocks just long enough to not get tagged as a 'pattern day trader' and from what I'm seeing, it's a miracle I am even at this point. I have been buying and selling based on essentially p/e ratio, Williams %R, and Relative Strength Index using a daily dump of market data I get from profitspi.com.
Tonight I started comparing today's winners and losers against yesterdays indicators going back several weeks and found out at least for the length of time I am holding stocks, the indicators I am using, evaluated by themselves, just as numbers are completely useless. I am not seeing any correlation with a good number on an indicator today and a winner or loser tomorrow. Many of them are essentially perfectly correlated with price, meaning if I am seeing a positive sign in an indicator like WMR less than -70 or RSI less than 30, it is immediately factored into price and it's too late to profit off of it.
What I did find is this, if I want to find predictive indicators, I need to be looking at 30 day charts for trends and specifically when a handful of values intersect with base lines. namely, 3 day RSI intersecting with 14 day on an upward trajectory, same with WMR, same with 9 day simple moving average and 22 day SMA, Aroon Up surpassing Aroon Down and MACD 12 day passing 26 day or EMA signals, ADX when +DI converges upward past -DI. One indicator I never heard of does seem to spike sometimes before price does and thats a 10 day 'Fisher Transform'
I'm also learning much of the stock advice 'news' is misleading or flat out wrong. If it's good advice, by the time you read it, it's already too late to profit off of it. Follow the pros and the insiders, not the herd. For example, facebook looks like a great buy until you look at all of the SEC insider trade filings and see that just about all of the facebook executives are dumping shares. https://fintel.io/n/us/fb I think unless you are willing to really dig and do your own research you are better off just parking your money in a fund and leaving it there.
Just my two cents. Good luck and happy trading. I'd love to hear other thoughts on this.
They say all things come to an end, so what are y’all strategies in investing when the bull market does stop for a while??
For instance, if I work at Apple. Am I just restricted from Apple stock and options or the whole market?
In my personal finance class, we are having a investment project and we are supposed to get a gain of 10,000$ so we can put a down payment on a “house”. Are there any good stocks that could get me that in the week we are given or is that not even possible?
Thoughts on ARLZQ and NLST (still a buy)? Found them on https://sudostocks.com/, made a profit, but not sure if I should still be holding?
Sorry if this is a newbie question, I am a newb at this and just trying to understand it all...
How do you calculate the future earnings that would be needed to justify the value of a particular stock? For example Canopy Growth has held steady around $50/share. Many are saying it is overvalued, which is true based on past/current earnings but not necessarily on future earnings after Canadian cannabis legalization. How much earnings would they need over the next few years to justify this stock price?
Is there a simple formula such as (outstanding stocks x price per share divided by estimated earnings)...or something similar?
I am not asking if CGC is a good stock to buy, but would like to know what methods people use for valuing a stock.
Thank you!
Edit: (brevity and clarity)
I want to buy apple stock but not sure what else I want to buy. What's a few good tips or safe stocks to diversify a portfolio?

What is on everyone's radar for today's trading day ahead here at r/StockMarket?
Well, TLRY came crashing down half its price, thank goodness I had the sense not to trust it. But meanwhile, CGC and CRON are both keeping steady, with CGC looking better than CRON. What are your thoughts on these two?
An analyst said they're shares are worth about $7 a piece and they're priced at $3 right now. Any opinions on wether to buy or not?
