It's mostly in the title, but looking (very superficially) at Tesla right now made me wonder if its stock value might go down if and when it starts turning a profit and evolves from a speculative company to something that can be valued more appropriately. In that hypothetical scenario, even if everything goes right for the company it might take many years for its current stock price to be justified by its value, so the most optimist long-term investor would be better off selling right now and wait for the market to adjust Tesla's stock price.
Please note that I have no idea what I'm talking about, which is why I'm asking: do you know of any example of a company's stock going down when starting to turn a profit (possibly due to overhyped prior speculation)?
