Anyone use Scottrade?

I've been using Scottrade Elite in Virtual mode and I keep getting a lag between my orders being sent and executed. About 5-8 seconds. Those few seconds easily mean the difference of hundreds to thousands of dollars being made or lost. I use my university's connection so I know the ISP isn't a issue, easily 100MB downloads. I just want to know if anyone here uses the ScottradeElite platform and notices a lag.

New to all this would like advice.

Hey guys,

I've wanted to start putting money in stocks for ages and been trying to read up on lots of stuff about it. What's the best tips you could give me? What is a good broker app to use? I have a normal job I'm not loaded or anything is investing in stocks more for the richer people? Can only invest like £25/£100 a month would that be enough to start my investment portfolio and be successful? Thanks for any help and advise you guys give me.

monster rippage in the vix today ... it has been a while since we have seen anything like this on the downside in the indices ... you don't need me to tell you how this has been extremely long overdue...

and figures the one week where i decide to completely take a break from the markets (trading/following/etc) that's the week we experience our largest selloff all year.......

will this just be another one day phenomenon and back to the upside and new highs we go in the weeks to follow? or could we actually see some follow through to the downside after today? it has been far too long since we have seen anything lasting more than a day or a few...

Resources for learning about markets and investing?

Could someone offer me some resources (books, websites, etc) for learning about markets and investing. I'm looking for something like a science text book for investing. What I mean by that is I don't want advice in what to invest or how to make money, I want facts and technical information about terms, practices, etc.

I want information that is purely factual based and irrefutable, not opinions or investing advice...like a text book. I want to be able to watch CNBC and know what people are talking about.

If this is the wrong place to post this just downvote it and I'll delete it. Thanks.

OCZTQ - Could this Q stock go back to where it was?

OK, so I have been watching this one for a while. OCZ filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy, so they added a Q to the symbol, and it tanked. I noticed on the way down, that some "entity/specialist/mm/toshiba" etc accumulated millions and millions of shares... and then the stock continued to tank.

Toshiba buys company for 35 mil, then lets the continue to operate "separately" using Toshiba money. OCZ products continue to be produced, but stock was de-listed and dropped to OTC level d/t price. So they don't need to tell us anything at this point.

Last I heard letter had been sent to those who OCZ owed money too, about a resolution in order to get out of chapter 11.

Last piece of news on 6/13/2014

"Lawyers for OCZ Technology Group Inc.(OCZTQ) got approval from a judge to send copies of the former digital data storage company's debt-payment proposal to creditors that have the power to reject the proposal by vote.

The approval from Judge Peter Walsh on Thursday allows OCZ Technology's(OCZTQ) lawyers to take the next step toward paying the former digital data storage company's final bills--roughly $70 million in claims--after Toshiba Corp.(TOSBF) (TOSYY, 6502.TO) bought the company earlier this year. A vote tally is expected to be presented to Judge Walsh at a July 22 confirmation hearing.

Under the plan, unsecured creditors, including trade creditors that were owed about $31 million, aren't scheduled to recovery any money unless a team of lawyers can successfully win lawsuits for reasons that have yet to be determined.

A group of the company's bondholders were already paid about $7.5 million from a $23.5 million bankruptcy loan, which is expected to be repaid using money from Toshiba's(TOSBF)$35 million purchase offer. And the company's senior-most lender, Hercules Growth Technology Capital Inc., which took $3.6 million from the company's bank accounts before the bankruptcy, has reached a deal that would enable it to push for another $6.5 million.

OCZ filed for bankruptcy protection on Dec. 2 with an "urgent need for cash" shortly after Hercules Growth Technology snatched the cash from its accounts, citing a loan default. Company officials blamed its financial troubles on years of accounting fumbles, an onslaught of shareholder lawsuits that followed and difficulty in keeping up with evolving technology.

The company's sale to Toshiba(TOSBF) closed on Jan. 21 after no other buyers put in offers for OCZ during the case."

So.... If Toshiba pays off debt - and it looks like they are trying to do just that, that means there will be no "re-organization," no bankruptcy??

Anyone familiar with the law? I bought a small amt of this stock this week as gamble/slot machine move, but I am starting to to think it might pay big lol. Am I able to look up this July 22'nd hearing somehow?? Could this stock go back to where it was?

Scottrade Order Entry

I've been watching RAD trade this morning. I'm using ScottradeElite, so I can watch split second trading prices.

RAD will stay steady, then drop .20 cents for a couple seconds, then rise up .20 cents. Can I set a market order to catch this extreme drop in price? Or will the bid/ask spread stay steady and ignore the .20 cent drop.

Unfortunately, I'm guessing I just have wishful thinking I can make a couple hundred $ in 2 seconds.

NQ up 20% today.

http://ift.tt/1ntj31W

Why because it is NQ and this stock is bipolar. If you'd have bought low price Friday you'd be up 100% now if you sold today.

There is a potential for a total loss on this one.

I just think it is an interesting story. Be interesting to see how it pans out. Don't mention it in WSB. A lot of people got hosed on it. I bought in last Wed. with 1 call option as I'm trying to learn options. Just curious if anyone else was messing with it. Again very real possible of a total loss. I'm long on it with gambling money and I don't mind my entry point.

What are the pains of a typical investor?

I posted this in r/investing, I'm looking for a little more feedback. I’m doing research for a class project, the assignment is to find the “daily pains and struggles” of a customer segment which you associate with. The goal of the project is to develop a potential product that could help suit the needs of the customer segment you have chosen. One of the segments I’m choosing to research is the individual investor. By individual investor I mean people who buy and sell securities for their personal account, not for a company or organization.

So, to all you individual investors out there, what are your daily struggles or what could make your life as an investor easier? Please don’t answer, “bull market all day every day” that would make everyone’s life easier but I can’t make that happen

For example – I wish I could receive a daily text message explaining why the market is up or down today.

Thanks for the help!

AAPL exceeded all-time high today if you include dividends

AAPL's all-time high is 100.724 (Sept 2012). Since then they've made 7 dividend payouts totalling $2.97 per share. The break-even if you bought at the high is 97.754 now, and that was crossed today.

Is that a valid calculation? It doesn't factor in tax.

VMW Inc Is Trading Higher, But For How Long?

This morning, the leading virtualization infrastructure solutions provider VMW Inc (NYSE:VMW) is trading higher after report earnings. While the stock is trading higher today on the back of the news it could be coming under distribution in the near future. You see, the weekly time-frame on VMW has been consolidating in a very bearish manner over the past three months. Traders and investors should note that anytime a stock consolidates sideways after a major decline it is setting up to resume selling in that direction again. This pattern is very evident on the weekly and monthly charts. When a break-down does occur in the stock the projected target would be for a decline into the $85.00 area.

Question regarding accountant fees

I'm a low volume trader-- actually totaled 8 trades last year. I got slapped with a 200USD charge for my brokerage account. For those who don't want to do the mental math, my accountant hit me for 25/trade. I trade with scottrade, so I was essentially paying 32USD/ trade.

Do most accountants charge per trade or have a flat fee they hit you with for simply having a brokerage account?

Any insight into this would be very appreciated. I'm not a very experienced trader and don't understand that side of the business well.

DDD and 3D printing as a whole: hold or bail?

I was able to pick up a few shares of DDD during their May 2013 public offering at $40/share. I watched it jump up to the mid-$90s, and then fall back to it's current price ($57.27 as of 7/18 close). I held on because I'm hoping to see the technology really take off, especially in commercial uses first. Stratasys, the other big 3D firm, seems to be marketing itself towards consumer uses, but I really think the trend will start in manufacturing, which DDD seems to be targeting. My question is this: do you guys believe it foolhardy to hold out for a breakthrough, or should I hold on to see this really take off over the next 5+ years?

Looking for a particular data feed (e-mini futures)

Does anyone here know of a good real-time data feed for e-mini futures contracts, particularly the S&P and Nasdaq 100. The catch is I need the data to not be bundled - in other words, if someone makes 4 trades at the same price for 100 shares each, I don't want to see that as a single 400 share trade, I need to see them each individually. Was hoping maybe someone here used a feed like this or knew of one. Any help would be great, thanks.

GTAT hit -5% on supply concerns to AAPL

GT Advanced Technologies Inc. (GTAT) is plummeting in the early minutes of trading after CLSA analyst Mark Heller gave a conservative guidance for sapphire. Heller has cut sapphire capacity and revenue estimates by 50% for the year due to poor yields in sapphire production. He said GT Advanced is having issues ramping up production at new furnaces. The company is expected to solve these problems over time with Apple Inc. (AAPL) increasingly adopting sapphire. While many analysts believe GT is providing sapphire for Apple's iWatch, Mark notes it otherwise.

In another report from Apple Insider, the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 faces production issues and is likely to be pushed to a 2015 release on the back of problems in the touchscreen panel, and color unevenness due to a larger size and the metal casing.

Trading is an Art. Not a Science.

Philosophical Friday;

I say some people are born naturals and some of us like me have to work harder. The Successful ones have to think less about what they are doing. They do it naturally like a good tennis player or surfer.

Trading is a mental exercise of confidence levels. Not something you could program an if/then to a computer. It's is far more human emotion than that. So far as to say 90% a mental exercise. An Art. What say youz?

nice reversal off the early morning lows here ... airlines pushing to the highs midday helping to bring the transports into the green at the lunch hour after being down by as much as -1.25% ... overall, the markets have also bounced significantly off their extreme morning low prints... and just to put this recent little sell off into perspective here, the transports (which are also seen as a leading indicator for markets) are only off about -0.50% from their recent all-time highs... quite the comeback here, as we have seen time and time and time again during this bull market...

With two more bearish articles:

Looks like they had a meeting yesterday and decided to start hammering the bears narrative this week.

Obviously its a bit of a gamble, we could be rallying through the summer, but its better to have an opinion than being all neutral on everything!

Here is their hompage , I talked to my investment coordinator about GoPro, and he said this is a safer play because everyone goes to them for the cameras technology, both GoPro and other companies trying to ride the wave with them and compete.

They have been trending down slightly the past month but I'm looking for a nice rise.

How would you guys recommend getting into this 5 year bull market?

I'm in college and have 2k I want to invest and have always been following the market and I'm ready to get in. The problem is I fear an ineviatble correction this year. I don't want to go in shorting because I don't have enough money, and I'm also afraid that somehow this market will keep going up. My profit goals are short term, I am mainly interested in swing trading. What industries do you think will counter an upcoming correction and do you think this correction is immanent ? thanks

Seventy Seven Energy (SSE)

Back in 2011, I bought 100 shares of CHK. Kind of a dumb investment. It's largely, until recently, been to the downside since then, and all I've gotten from it is my $9 dividend each quarter.

Anyway, the other day, I check my account and I now own 7 shares of something called "Seventy-Seven Energy". Symbol SSE and trading at this time at $26.70. And it's up nearly 20% since the shares were given to me

Some base research shows that SSE is a spin off of CHK and it looks like SSE was the oilfield operations arm of CHK.

I have two questions.

1) Why was I given these shares? 2) What recommendations does anyone have for what to do with it?
