Are there any recurring trends in the market?

This might be a stupid question, so bear with me. I'm a novice.

Are there any recurring, observable trends in the market at all - even unrelated to stock price / making a profit from buying and selling stocks?

For example, can we say something like: Solar power company stocks on average decrease when natural gas company stocks on average increase? (note that I'm looking for similar examples that hold, but this one might not... it is just an example)
