When you have very illiquid, small OTC stocks where a typical market maker would not venture, who typically makes a market in the shares? Is there ever a situation where the company will have to pay a firm to make a market in their equity? Is the depth simply not there? Or is it smaller or more amateur market makers? I have been looking at the new Tick Size Pilot Program and began to have these questions.
