Stock market on June 30: thoughts and outlook

  1. Trump might start a trade war! I don't think this will cause a bear market or big correction.
  2. If the S&P makes a correction right now, I'm going to buy when it reaches 2300.
  3. Q2 2017 earnings season will most likely be strong

Day trading alert service

This is the website, he gives you a trial you start out with. http://ift.tt/2mVQRsM Apparently he has 15 years of stock trading experience with forex and stuff, and only has this chat room because he was making amazing trades, and people wanted to see his trades. Then he decided he'll just make a chat room instead, and here we are. People are paying $500/month to be in the room. I've asked other people in the room how they've done so far and it seems like 60-70% havent been able to make profits even from the room. Once you are in the chat, he gives out 3-8 alerts each day on when to buy, sell, and where to put your stop loss. For example, today the first alert was: buy CHFS at 1.51 or last shares of 1.50 target 1.55 - 1.65 stop over-under 1.45 Then I bought the stock at 1.51, set a stop loss at 1.45 and profit to 1.56. It never touched 1.56, he said he's selling a bit early, and sells at 1.54. By now its too late for me to sell at 1.54, and it hits my stop loss. He does these things pretty commonly and at the end of the day he makes 10-40% profits from these day trades. The reason I keep paying for the chat is that his daily summaries of the trades show significant profit. For example yesterday was this: NXTD 2.21 - 2.40 (+8.5%) SPEX 4.00 - 4.22 (+5.5%) MBRX 3.66 - 3.68 (+0.5%) MBRX 3.60 - 3.65 (+1.3%) NXTD 2.42 - 2.54 (+4.9%) Total profit today: +20.7% 5 Trades - 5 Winners! Same copy-paste thing as yesterday! Win on top of win! Smaller profits made on MBRX with quick in&out trades on both alerts since it wasn't exploding as we wanted but we had NXTD and SPEX to take care of vertical bangs! It's #FreshCashFriday tomorrow! Can't wait! See you in the morning! Should I keep trying it and see if I can eventually make a profit from this guy?

Scalping news/rumors for quick profits (losses)?

Just wondering if anyone does this here. For example, today we had the Wall-greens/Right Aid news and then the CAB FTC clearance rumor/news plus a few other hot stories. I was able to jump in on the CAB news and got out with a quick profit (wished I held longer).

I also was able to jump into NKE after hours (earnings report) and could have made $2 per share but I chickened out and closed my position when I saw it starting to retrace a bit.

Basically I would only trade if there the price did not already spike too far and if there was plenty of volume with low spread and I would use a very tight stop. Seems like the risk/reward could be huge if you keep your stops tight and some of these (like NKE today) could move a few percentage points in an hour or two.

Why is SVA not trading at $7?

I'm quite new to this so forgive me if this is a foolish question. SVA has entered a definitive agreement to go private for $7 a share. There was some question as to if this was the best price they could get, and to fight against that, the purchase price has been raised to $8 a share.

I would expect this to cause the price of this stock to rise somewhat rapidly as people try to get in on the premium, but it's been a somewhat unstable pace. Is there something I'm missing?

The US Dollar

What is going on with the US dollar? Recently, its had no floor yet central bank policy would suggest (in the typical sense at least) that there would be support for it at these levels. Is Yellen not going to continue down this path of tightening?

Valens Equities Weekly Equity Idea Highlight for June 28, 2017 – Palo Alto Networks, Inc.

GRMN is currently trading at a 13x UAFRS-based P/E (V/E’), which is near historical averages. At these levels, the market is pricing in expectations for UAFRS-based ROA to decline from 17% in 2016 to 11% by 2021, accompanied by 7% Adjusted Asset growth. These expectations imply the market believes the firm’s competitive advantage has completely dissolved, and the firm will see profitability fade towards historical corporate averages.

MLHR’s Uniform Adjusted EPS’ is not projected to shrink, contrary to as-reported EPS projections, and at current valuations any growth would warrant material upside

  • MLHR’s profitability is materially distorted by accounting for operating leases and R&D

  • As such, their UAFRS EPS’ is expected to grow to $0.84 in Q4 2017, and EPS’ over the next four quarters is expected to grow by 2%, not shrink

  • At current valuations, markets are embedding expectations for 13% EPS’ shrinkage annually, which is directionally different than analyst projections for growth, warranting material upside

Questions about limit order

I'm quite new at this

So basically what I understand from limit order is that for example a stock is at $10, and I can say I want to buy 100 stocks once the stock is $9. I got these questions about it;

  • Will the limit order stay for unlimited time (unless it's a daytrade order)? If I let it stay will it for example be able to buy the stocks after weeks/months/years?

  • Can I cancel the limit order? If so, do I lose the transaction fees, or would I pay the transaction fees after I bought the stocks at the price I put the limit order on?

  • Are the transaction fees or any other fees becoming higher the longer you wait (for example if it takes weeks to reach the price you want to pay for the order)?

  • A few weeks ago the Ethereum went from $390 to $0.10. Does anything stop us of putting limit orders for every stock at an insanely low price (such as $0.10) so that we've got those stocks immediately if such a thing happens again?

Thank you!

$GOOGL - Google has been fined 2.42bn euros ($2.7bn; £2.1bn) by the European Commission after it ruled the company had abused its power by promoting its own shopping comparison service at the top of search results.

The amount is the regulator's largest penalty to date against a company accused of distorting the market. The ruling also orders Google to end its anti-competitive practices within 90 days or face a further penalty. The commission said it was leaving it to Google to determine what alterations should be made to its Shopping service rather than specifying a remedy. "What Google has done is illegal under EU antitrust rules," declared Margrethe Vestager, the European Union's Competition Commissioner. "It has denied other companies the chance to compete on their merits and to innovate, and most importantly it has denied European consumers the benefits of competition, genuine choice and innovation."

I find myself constantly beating the market when playing the Trading Game, how can I leverage this skill?

Hi, Maybe many of you already know the Trading Game at http://ift.tt/2lR6PaN

Basically each time it picks a random stock (which you don't know about at the start) and then it places you at the point in time where it was first traded on the market and then it goes fast forward through its chart letting you place buy orders as you see the stock chart progress.

Now almost every time I play it I find myself beating it, i.e. placing good buy orders and ending each game with a big profit. Of course, the game uses real stock charts!

I have been studying technical analysis and charts for more than 2 years now, so I know I might have developed an eye for it... but the thing is, when I do paper trading in the minutely/hourly/daily period I never do this good! I think I am really good at this game because it goes very fast, (it actually makes you experience something similar to scalping, which I 've never done in my life) and I think that the fast feedback from the chart somehow makes me understand the price swings better, making me place the right orders. I am talking about constantly making a 70% profit on any stock the game picks.

Now, do you guys reckon there could be a value in this? Could I leverage this "skill" or "eye" I think I have developed? Yes, you could say "just try scalping" but from what I understood so far, scalping is never available to beginners on trading platforms and only comes with big brokers that will ask you to start with a 15000$ account and I am nowhere near that ballpark.

Please don't say that I am required that kind of amount if I seriously want to go deeper into trading, I've heard that many times, but many times I've also read about people starting with amounts as low as $ 500. I would really like to know if there are serious ways to exploit this skill I am seeing in myself without investing that kind of amounts. Only thing I know is that my skill certainly goes in parallel with how fast the chart goes, while in real life the smallest time period I have access to for free paper trading account is 1 minute (using tradingview.com), which means the chart does not go as fast as it goes in the game and consequently and I am not as good as I am in the game in identifying the price swings.

If you want, the game offers a way to challenge other people, meaning I could post here a link to my past games and show you my performance and let you try to challenge it.

Sorry for the long post, please forgive me for my not so good English, I hope this makes sense and that at least some of you understood what I am trying to say and could help me understand what to do. Thanks a lot.

"Renewable Energy" was just a Decoy to Desensitize the Public to Obama's Climate Agenda

The “renewable energy” push by the second Obama administration was just a make-believe effort. Tens of billions of dollars of the public’s money, supposedly allocated to advance alternative renewable energy, as controversial as this goal was, were not spent to advance any kind of energy. Some money was spent to deploy solar, wind, wood burning, and similar facilities, using dead-end technologies. The real goal was to show fast growth in the ‘clean energy’ sources in order to convince the public that we did not need coal, natural gas, oil, and nuclear power. This false conviction made the energy agenda of climate alarmism more acceptable to the public. But the bulk of the money went to raise a standing army of PR professionals, journos, con-scientists, “educators”, and other quasi-professionals, making a living by peddling climate alarmism, and incapable of making a living in any honest way. Of course, tens of billions of dollars were put in the pockets of the multi-millionaire supporters of the Democrat Party. There are hundreds of Solyndras out there. Most of them are not exposed and the guilty parties are not prosecuted.

So if i was in charge of one of these short interested groups I could just short the stock and run a negative report? For instance, Citron Research published something about Nvidia and the following day the stock dropped, so could their short interest have been covered by that drop they created?

Curios question needing explanation regarding the Amazon-Whole Foods deal and its effect please.

Please excuse my post title typo. I have no clue on how to fix it.

I am not someone who follows the stock market, let alone financial news in general. Therefore, I have very little knowledge and understanding to how the world of business regarding trade/sell, stocks, Wall Street work.

So this may be stupid question to ask because it could have a stupid simple answer. But as someone who has no knowledge or involvement in that part of the world, I can't help but be curious and ask.

In the last two weeks I have been constantly hearing about the Amazon-Whole Foods deal. And everything I have read said the day of the deal and overall in general since then has led to a crash for all other grocery related stocks such Walmart, Target, Costco, etc.

As someone who has no understanding of how the market works, is someone willing to explain how and why the other stocks such as Walmart, Target, and Costco crashed?

Like it is something as simple as investors leaving other grocery related businesses to invest in Amazon and Whole Foods after the deal? Shoppers flocking Whole Foods and Amazon suddenly? Or is it something much more complex?

I also ask, if it is an overly complicated answer, could you please make the answer as simplistic as possible to understand.

Thoughts on CytRx (CYTR)

Ive been reading up on this stock, trading at .68 as of now. CytRx is working on bringing its flagship candidate, aldoxorubicin, to the market. While this is still a while off, the recent Phase 3 clinical trial yielded exceptional results, showing that there is tremendous value in the treatment. At the moment, CYTR has a market cap of around 116.02 million. In the world of oncology, that's pennies my friends. If a competitor wanted to get an exceptional deal on the assets owned by CYTR, that competitor would have to move quickly. After all, if they wait until the next milestone, the stock could shoot up in value, leading to a larger price for anyone interested. Not sure if i should buy in, thoughts?

Large potential upside for $TWMC

I've been following this stock for a while and wanted to get the communities opinion on buying in. I have spent many months researching Benjamin Graham and his methods of comparing a company's stock price to their net current asset value (NCAV) as a method for determining under-priced securities. The theory is that any company that is trading at two-thirds or less of their NCAV can be reasonably assumed to be under-priced.

Now, I have come across $TWMC (Trans World Entertainment Corporation), which is a chain of entertainment retail stores that are behind some powerful brands such as FYE. Upon doing some research into their financials, they have an NCAV of $2.30 and are currently trading at $1.60 - indicating that it could indeed be under-priced.

This company has posted a positive net income for numerous consecutive quarters and is currently trading at the bottom of their 52 week range ($1.50-$4.21). Additionally, they have recently made some big moves in M&A with their purchase of Etailz, a digital marketplace expert. For these reasons, I believe that the market will soon adjust their stock price to its true value.

TLDR: $TWMC to the moon

But that tends to be a longer-term outlook whereas in the short-term Forward P/E is already pretty high at 25.6 and there's a lot of pressure on them from Chinese junkware vendors. Not sure I see $8.50 being something we'll see near-term.

Plus, I bought at $4.92 so I'm already at nearly a 50% gain and it's hard to believe I'm not tempting fate much beyond that point.

FDS’s Uniform Adjusted EPS’ is not projected to shrink, contrary to as-reported EPS projections, and recent underperformance is therefore unwarranted

  • FDS’s profitability is materially distorted by accounting for operating leases and stock option expenses

  • As such, their UAFRS EPS’ is expected to grow to $2.02 in Q3 2017, and EPS’ over the next four quarters is expected to grow by 8%, not shrink

  • At current valuations, markets are embedding expectations for annual EPS’ growth of 3%, which is only half of longer-term analyst projections, suggesting further upside is likely warranted

Beginner stock help

Hi, I'm 19 and was left some money by my grandma when I was born and am looking to start investing it in stocks. Any idea which website would be the best to do this? I'm going to do it on my own and was thinking about just putting money into an etrade account or something. Any tips or suggestions? Thanks

Screener: stock price between two custom moving averages

Does anyone know of a stock screener that allows you to say "show me stocks with the price between the daily x MA and x MA" and you get to choose the exact MA. Or if not custom MAs, a screener with many options of different MAs. This should be fairly straightforward but I'm having trouble finding a screener that can do this.

Thanks!

Saudi Aramco IPO

I recently listened to a podcast where Daniel Pena made some speculations regarding the Aramco IPO.

He stated that he believed that the company has far more barrels of crude on hand than they are currently reporting. Because the company is only selling 5% of the shares, Pena speculated that they could only be going public in an attempt to show off their surplus. Thusly, driving down the price of crude, and starving out the North Dakota Baaken.

Last month, Bloomberg reported that U.S. Shale, a Texas oil company, is ramping up production despite OPEC's requests to scale back. This seems to support Pena's claims.

Hypothetically, if the theory holds true, and the price of crude drops, can we expect a significant market correction following the IPO (similar to the drop in January/February of 2015 when crude dropped?)

Thanks ahead of time for any info

Will AMD stock reach 20$ within a couple of years

Most stock analysts say that AMD is bullish, but there is one that says that it isn't even worth 13$ and will drop to 7$. I bought in at 11.4$ last week and am thinking of holding, but the conflicting analysis of the stock makes me want to sell while I still have a 20% gain. Thoughts?

U.S. stock market on June 21, 2017: thoughts and outlook. Is this the correction that we're looking for?

  1. Based on where the Economic Surprise Index is right now, the S&P has already started a correction.
  2. Trump will not be a concern until 2018. The Mueller investigation won't release official results until next year.
  3. is wage inflation coming?

I'm a new investor looking for critique/help on my stock tracking spreadsheet... (part 2)

About a month ago, I posted here asking for help/tips with my investing spreadsheet. Now that I've had some time to tinker with it, I'd like to resubmit my spreadsheet for some brutal constructive criticism.

I will try to field any questions about how I use it or how I came up with my formulas and rankings; but here are answers to some questions I anticipate:

  • This data reflects my actual investment portfolio. It's not much, but it's what I have to start with.

  • I invest based on Rule 1 principles (Warren Buffet, Charlie Munger, Phil Town). This means that I evaluate each company to find their sticker price and then cut that in half to find the MOS (Margin of Safety) price. If you have any questions on this method, I can highly recommend Phil Town's book, Rule #1.

  • My rankings are also based on Rule 1 principles, which valuates every company and gives a score between 1-100 (100 being best). I take the Rule 1 score and multiply it by the difference in stock price and the MOS price. This is not a perfect ranking system, and it merely serves to sort my list. I DO NOT rely entirely on this ranking to make my investments. It is simply another metric that helps me determine value vs cost.

  • I hide a lot of my columns on the "Watch List" tab, but I have the sheet protected from editing to keep all you filthy animals from wrecking it. I copied that tab and un-hid the columns so you can poke around and see what's under the hood.

  • If you would like an editable copy of this sheet, please feel free to make a copy for yourself. If you cannot make a copy due to the restrictions I've placed on it, DM me and I will send you a copy of your own.

  • On the "Open Positions" tab, where you see my value "vs. market", this represents the multiple at which I am growing compared to the general market (Dow, Nasdaq, S&P 500). For instance, if this number is 2, then I am growing at 2x the market pace. You'll see how I come up with the 'market' rate on the "Performance Calculator" tab. (This multiplier is also in use on Column W on the "Watch List" tab)

  • I bought my first stock on May 24, 2017 and then picked up a few more along the way. You'll notice that some of my numbers are calculated from that date. I did this to set a baseline for myself from my own entry point into the market.

  • Column AC shows a sparkline that shows the momentum of growth (these lines are NOT representative of the historical stock price). This sparkline is shaped by the growth rate of each company, and the figures used to calculate that rate are hidden to the right of Column AC.

  • As much as I have been able to, I pull data from Google's finance API. If you see anywhere that I have missed an opportunity to automate fields that are otherwise being manually entered, I'd be glad to take some instruction.

So without further ado, I submit to you, Reddit, my current investing spreadsheet. Please be gentle in your critiques... I'm still new to this. :)

Let's say I buy a stock $example on June 20 and every pay check after that I buy a little more. Now it's June 20 2018 a full year. If I sell my stock then would only the stock bought on June 20th be sold as a long term investment and the rest be short term? Would they all be long term because the initial purchase was from a year ago? Also goes for if I have I stock I bought years ago that I want to reeinvest in. Will I have to wait a year again for it to be long term? Thank you.

Looking to invest in blue chip tech stocks (focus on automation, driverless, machine learning). What is a good entrance strategy?

I'm looking to invest in blue chip tech stocks that are positioned to succeed in driverless, automation, machine learning and other new growth areas. I am mainly looking at Apple, Microsoft, Google, Amazon, BlackBerry and IBM. However, there are scores of other companies.

I intend to invest $10K. I have a robust portfolio of ETFs and mutual funds that will be my backbone. However, I predict there will still be a lot of growth in the tech sector in the next two decades.

What is a good entrance strategy? Many of these companies are pretty close to all time highs. I'm looking to buy and hold. Mid 20s investor.

Any suggestions?

RHT’s Uniform Adjusted EPS’ is expected to remain well above traditional EPS, suggesting investors may believe incorrectly that the stock is expensive

  • RHT’s profitability is materially distorted by accounting for stock options and R&D

  • As such, their UAFRS EPS’ is expected to reach $3.17 in 2018, nearly double projected as-reported EPS of $1.64

  • After making the appropriate UAFRS adjustments, RHT is trading near peer averages, at a 29.6x Uniform P/E, below average valuations of US-based Systems Software companies, suggesting the firm is likely fairly valued at worst

We Are Looking For 1-2 Ppl For Our Accountability/Mastermind Group

Hi all,

I run a small accountability group. The group meets on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month over google hangouts from ~ 7:30pm – 9 pm EST, and meet 1-on-1 on the weeks we don’t have group meetings to check in with each other for 30 mins or so.

Over the last few years with the help of this accountability I have done a lot 1. Fixed my sleep schedule (go to sleep at 8:30 wake at 3:30 ish am), 2. Meditate everyday 3. Follow a strict IF diet 4. Fixed my fashion 5. Went from an introvert to being pretty social 6. Went from procrastinating a lot to becoming extremely productive 7. In the very initial discovery phase of starting a business in SV 8. Dropped 50 lbs 9. Finished my phd from a top 3 US university.

Another 2 people have started their own companies. We have 2-3 members who attend regularly and have 1 open position if you are interested in learning leadership skills. I think the best accountability/mastermind relationship happens when you know and trust the other person, as a result regular voice/video chat is a must.

So we have a 75% attendance requirement (over 2 months), and an organized structure for efficiently conducting the meetings.

Please fill out this form, if you are interested: http://ift.tt/2sFuvCn

Have a great weekend!

WFCF is climbing.

A few months ago I found out about a company called Where food comes from (WFCF). Their chart reflected a dip coming into this fiscal year, but it upon further research I learned that it was misleading due to a recent acquisition. Due to its relatively low price at the time ($2.20), I felt comfortable buying a good amount of shares. The company has a solid business model and they pretty much dominate market share.

It's starting to pay off this month, and it looks like there is room to grow.

Obligatory note that I'm in no way affiliated with their company (other than the minute number of shares I own), and that past performance does not guarantee future results. Good luck!!

Why Chipotle Stock Is Tanking (CMG)

http://ift.tt/2rQsnCJ

Chipotle confirmed that marketing and promotion expenses will likely rise between 20 to 30 basis points, representing 3.6 percent to 3.7 percent of full-year sales. This revelation, together with news that food costs are expected to remain at 34.2 percent of total revenues and that same-store sales growth predictions are unchanged, was enough to send the company’s stock tumbling by as much as 3 percent to $445 a share in after-hours trading.

Currently down 6.19%

¿Can we get some discussion on drys? I know it's a bad stock but I want to understand what makes it bad.

Stock splits don't affect company value besides keeping the price away from unusable levels like less than $. 01 or above $257,320.00

Stock dilution on the other hand shouldn't affect the value of the stocks you hold. The money raised is added to the value of the company so the shares you hold become a smaller portion of a more valuable company. Dilution makes the stock unappealing for small investors who fear getting squeezed out during an inconvenient time (like a price dip). Dilution also makes the stock unappealing to large investors because the percentage of the company an institution holds is important and having that percentage changed without consulting the institution is a huge turn off.

So dilution is only really bad when the ceo is embezzling money (which drys absolutely is)

How much can a company embezzle before shareholders can sue?

Q2 2017 earnings season will probably be strong. bullish for stocks in mid-late July 2017

a strong earnings season in July will probably be bullish for stocks

  1. the earnings growth rate in q2 2017 will be slightly lower than in q1 2017. this is mostly because energy companies are experiencing a lower earnings growth rate (oil has been falling).

  2. the finance sector is still experiencing strong earnings growth because interest rates are up year-over-year

  3. analysts expect the tech sector to release strong earnings (e.g. Google, Amazon, Intel).

analysts tend to underestimate earnings. for example, they estimated q1 2017 to be 9% when it came in at 13%!

Hence, it's likely that earnings in Q2 will beat expectations. the stock market goes up more often than it goes down when earnings reports are "strong".

Recovering lost account/shares

Project to Beat the Dow

I'm working on a project. I try to beat the Dow. Every week I select stocks from the Dow (usually 1-10 stocks) that I think will beat the Dow. Last week was AXP, GE, IBM, CSCO, and DIS, a few weeks ago was XOM and NKE, you get the idea. I select stocks using a machine learning algorithm I created (engineering undergrad, compsci masters, interned as a quantitative analyst). It can make predictions for any arbitrary portfolio, but people care about the Dow - it's a reasonable benchmark. There's a more in depth explanation on my blog, please check it out:

http://ift.tt/2ottRkt

It's a time-stamped log of all my stock predictions, and a plot of my performance compared to the Dow. It should give you some idea of what I do. You can use the blog to copy my trades in your own portfolio (hypothetically! don't do this! entertainment only etc.) because predictions for Monday mornings are always posted Sunday nights. It's only 9 months of data, but it's all verifiable in an interactive brokers account. I have another 6 months of paper trading data (unverifiable unfortunately) that can be prepended to the graphs.

I've put a lot of work into developing the algorithm. Let me know what you think. I'd love to hear about how to improve things: what kinds of features and sections people want to see. Would people like to be able to log in and be on an email list? Perhaps you like the simplicity? Please, let me know. That's what this post is about. I want feedback on how to improve this.

Heads up iOS users, the graphs don't seem to display properly in iOS safari (OS X safari is fine).

Just because valuations are high doesn't mean that the stock market can't rally strongly

Recently, a lot of investors have been pointing at the U.S. stock market's high valuations. They think that high valuations mean the S&P will underperform. THis just isn't true.

  1. Valuations are higher b/c long term interest rates are much lower than they used to be.
  2. valuation indicators aren't good at picking bull market tops
  3. stock markets usually rally the fiercest in the final years of a bull market.

  • As such, their UAFRS EPS’ is expected to only grow by 12% this year, not 38%

  • After making the appropriate UAFRS adjustments, COO is trading at a 26.1x Uniform P/E, which implies a PEG ratio of 2.75x, indicating longer-term underperformance may be justified

U.S. stock market on June 15, 2017: thoughts and outlook

  1. the Economic Surprise Index is telling us that the stock market will begin a small correction within 4 months.
  2. the S&P is falling after the Fed meeting. This has been the standard pattern over the past 2 years.
  3. 2300 is a good buying target for the S&P 500.

VMW’s Uniform Adjusted EPS’ is greater than reported, implying the firm is cheap, even after the material rebound in share prices

  • VMW’s profitability is materially distorted by accounting for R&D and stock option expenses under GAAP

  • As such, their UAFRS EPS’ is expected to grow to $4.97 this year, 60% higher than as-reported EPS of $3.10

  • After making the appropriate UAFRS adjustments, VMW is trading at an 18.8x Uniform P/E, which is a material discount to 20 of the 25 US-based Systems Software companies in our database, and only a premium compared to companies with far worse growth prospects

College Student Looking to Educate Myself in Investing and Stock Market Trading

Hello everybody, I'm currently a college student (20 years old) who is looking to dip my head into the stock market and get a start to learning about how to trade and financially set myself up for the future. I am currently "investing" my money by limiting my bills and payments by putting away every paycheck into my savings and only spending money on necessities like food and gas, living at home while attending a cheaper school which will put me at minimal school debt. With that being said, while saving my money as much as possible, I would like to educate myself in the way the stock market works, strategies, do's and dont's, etc. I do enjoying reading, so if there are any books that you can recommend, please do. I am just looking for ways to get some starter-knowledge. Also, please feel free to leave your words of advice as anything can help me at this point. I appreciate any feedback, so thank you in advance!

U.S. stock market on June 14, 2017: thoughts and outlook

  1. it's better to let things settle down after today's rate hike. don't read too much into today's price action.
  2. Suprisingly enough, historically a rate hike from the Fed is most bearish for the 10 year yield.
  3. oil is close to bottoming?

Tracking DATI right now.

seems to have a similar model as CMGI did. A pretty large runner back in the early 2000s with a similar incubator model....and I would hope they've learned from the dot com era moving forward with their own plan. No real volume but assuming that the one time promo is fully trickled out of, it may be back in play if that normal market volume picks up. We'll see

FL’s Uniform Adjusted EPS’ has not been growing, and the drop last week is just the market recognizing what was already apparent

  • FL’s profitability is materially distorted by accounting for operating leases under GAAP

  • As such, their UAFRS EPS’ only grew 9% last year, and is expected to remain roughly flat this upcoming year

  • After making the appropriate UAFRS adjustments, FL is trading at a 15.0x Uniform P/E post-drop, which is a discount to averages, but FL is only expected to grow EPS’ by 0%-1% annually, suggesting these valuations are warranted

stock market on June 13, 2017: thoughts and outlook

  1. A lot of traders think that the stock market will make a correction right now. That's not good for us bears.
  2. We're seeing sector rotation. Finance and energy are going up.
  3. There are no important geopolitical worries left in the next few months.

Was there a singular event that caused the Housing market and Stock Market to blow in 2008?

I'm not looking for a broad overview of what led up to the Financial Crisis of '08. You know how when accidents happen, like when a structure collapses and investigators can trace to an event that occurred, like a construction worker used the wrong screws to fasten something, or the wrong design was approved that allowed a structure to falter?

Was there a singular event that happened that made the Market go awry on September 15th of 2008? I understand that the disaster was only a matter of time at that point but, what happened that made the collapse happen on September 15th and not say the day before or week after? Or was there one at all?

Noodles & Company

Noodles & Company's stock fell 10% today, to $3.62. This gives the company a market cap of $145 million. The company's shares are down 90% since its IPO four years ago.

According to the latest 10-Q, the company owned 409 restaurants and had 73 franchised restaurants. This means that the company is valued at about $300,000 per restaurant.

Is the business model too broken for the company to make a recovery? I feel that if it falls any lower, other fast-casual chains (e.g., Chipotle) would be likely to acquire the company.

What are your thoughts?

What gifts would you love to receive?

Hello StockMarket, I apologize if this post is inappropriate.

My husband is a casual investor and over the past few years he has done really well and is starting to take it much more seriously. He even upgraded from just a laptop on the couch, to a desk in the den with 2 more monitors.

Fathers day is coming up, and we are expecting our first child in a few months, so I want to get him something nice, but I know nothing about this world. What are some good investment-related gifts I could get him that would help him with whatever it is that is involved with stock-watching and investing?

Last year for his birthday I googled gift ideas and got him e-subscriptions to a few investment-related magazines (or maybe they are newspapers?) and I re-up those now annually. He is also getting an obligatory #1 dad mug.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

U.S. stock market on June 12, 2017: thoughts and outlook

  1. there are no geopolitical worries left for the U.S. stock market. europe isn't a concern, and neither is North Korea (pretty quiet on that front).
  2. The recent decline in tech is normal for this bull market. the bubble isn't over
  3. The economic data continues to miss expectations. Is this the correction we've been waiting for?

6-12: Notable Insider Buys from Last Week

These are insider buys of $10K or more reported to the SEC in the last 7 days. The SEC defines an insider as any officer, director or 10% shareholder. It is not illegal for these people to buy or sell their own shares. In fact, since most of them get paid in stock options, it is expected. However, it is illegal for them to trade on inside information that has not been made public. So for example if there are drug trial results that are bad and not public, insiders cannot dump shares. That said, many people have observed that insiders - in general - seem to have a good track record at timing their purchases.
