Stock apps

I have been very interested in stocks and feel it is more useful to put my money in the stock market versus a savings account. However I do not know much about them and I'm only 23 and can not hire nor do I think I ever will hire a stock broker. I was wondering if anyone knew any apps that I could use? I was looking into this one called stash invest. Also when I invest say I spend 50 on a stock and it's now worth 54. So I only profit 4 dollars when I sell it or does this $4 compound everyday I own the stock? Sorry if that's a dumb question. Thanks guys! Any information is appreciated
