Today I picked up F shares. I was wondering what you guys think of the company.
Things I like: Earlier in the year they announced they're refurbishing plants in Michigan to eventually produce more fuel efficient cars. Including a hybrid F150, and a hybrid-plugin utility van. My thinking is that especially with the vans, that could be a very big seller. A friend of mine works in HVAC, and drives all over the state in his van. Racks up a ton of driving miles, and the company replaces the vans every 2-3 years. It seems like a huge boon for these companies if the vehicle drank significantly less fuel over its lifespan. There are a lot of other companies that could benefit as well. Off the top of my head UPS and Fed Ex stand out.
A lot of people seem to be betting on Tesla. I'm not at all sold on them personally as they don't seem to yield much results, and are constantly pushing back deadlines for their Model 3. I think another company will beat them to it, and sell a ton of vehicles. That company will likely be one of the big three in the US.
Also, I get 5% dividends from Ford, which is always nice.
Thoughts?
