Stock Watch: Need some advice here. (UK)

Hi there,

I'm a student from the UK and would love to get in to buying shares in a few companies and the Standard and Poor's Index Fund, could anyone recommend me a reliable cheap broker for a Long-Term Investor in the UK.

I'm looking to actually own the shares and not the real-time trading stock options.
