I messed up

In the beginning of 2017, I was introduced to stocks by a co-worker. I bought $8,000 of a company sitting around $3 per share. Quite a bit in my opinion but by co-worker also did the same and he has been doing stocks for a long time so I trusted his judgement. Over the next 3 months, the shares dropped to $1.16 and I panicked. Sold all my shares. I lost about $5,000 and it hurt the bank account, but nothing to put me in major financial trouble. I just checked the share price and it closed yesterday at $10.35 a share.

Not only did I lose $5,000, but if I had just held like my co-worker, Id have almost $20,000 gained which is a lot of money for me. Just makes me sick to my stomach knowing if I just held, my bank account would be sitting very nice. Instead, my bank account still isn't back to what it was before I invested. Is there any thoughts I can keep in mind to make myself feel better?
