Are 3X leveraged ETFs a viable medium to long term investment.

I invest in mostly tech stocks and my portfolio has followed or beaten the indexes (DJI, NASDAQ and S&P). As i continue to learn and get deeper into the investment game I have learned about 3X ETFs (e.g. TQQQ).

If I like most of the stocks in TQQQ, why would I not invest my money there instead of the stocks themselves?

Are there any potential "gotchas" when investing in these ETFs?
