So I've been having a phenomenal year on the market and have made ~$56,000 in realized gains. I pulled 15k for taxes and put it in a savings account and have more or less reinvested the rest. Needless to say I got cocky and now I'm holding a handful of stocks in the red that might never recover, or at least not anytime soon. I'm tinkering with the idea of just straight liquidating all my stocks and starting fresh because at the end of the day my account is still up over 45,000 from the start of the year. And then I would use some of that 50-60k to reinvest more intelligently. I have one stock, maybe two, that I would hold long term but everything else I could part with. I funded the account with 4,000 and now it's worth so much more I feel like this isn't really a huge loss if I start from stratch... what are your thoughts on this? Maybe I'll wait a bit to see if the losers come up a little so I can take less of a loss but at the same time If I knock down some of my capital gains I can keep more of my tax money I set aside.
