Stock Watch: Long term investing

I have a question. Is it wrong to assume that if I put money on some big companies, let’s take google as an example, I will make profit anyway over the course of let’s say 30 years? If, of course, those companies don’t go bankrupt..,

The reason I ask is that I want to put some money on the stockmarket, but I can’t be asked to keep an eye on the market every single day...
