It is amazing that the Fed can control the Dollar just by words. That is all they have been doing since 2009.

A whole business cycle of zero percent rates.

Not one interest rate rise in 7 years. Just a load of talk. And yet they can keep every trader in the world fooled.

"In june, but don't get the idea we will raise.. its data dependant"

"in sept"

"no oct. "

"definitely December"

What does this say about the world.

Accurate EPS ratios?

I've noticed that a few sites differ in terms of the EPS ratio they give. For example : Google. Some are closer than others

http://ift.tt/20jhRRA

EPS:: 23.69

http://ift.tt/1RkH2gz

EPS:: 21.32

http://ift.tt/20jhQNz

EPS :: 21.61

http://ift.tt/PEAcaG EPS 21.32

Wondering which is the more reliable, because with other stocks they can vary greatly :\

TakeStock - Stock Data Aggregator Tool

About a month ago, I posted a tool which shows RSI, PEG Ratio, Earnings Date, and other stock stats all on one screen for all the stocks of one's choosing. Its motivation came from not having all the data I want to see on one screen. The closest I ever found to something like this was on finviz.com, but to do some more advanced things, such as exporting, you have to subscribe.

I got feedback from users here for adding export functionality, coloring for values, and waiting indicators. I've added these features and hope to hear more from the community on what they think could further improve the tool.

Feel free to try the app and let me know what you guys think. You enter comma separated tickers and simply click the search button, and after some time the results will appear. http://ift.tt/1PWLCEh You can also try the CLI if that's more to your taste.

Buying entire share volume?

Im completely new to the world of the stock market; and out of curiosity - what would happen if you bought out all of a company's shares?

For example; ScripsAmerica Inc only has 82,000 shares for $0.0209 each, it would only cost $1640 to buy out all the shares (not that Im planning on investing). What would happen to the stock?

Getting ready for next week in the market a Educational Trading Stocks and Futures Video

Don't Want to miss this week's Watch List daytraderockstar post posted by daytraderockstar Oct 30, 2015 8:40 pm

This past week was awesome and I feel this week's picks are just as great if not better. A lot of the positions have been entered over the last couple days As i been talking about a lot of these stocks on the air and sending out the trade alerts. But i have some nice surprises and I feel the list is one of the great ones.

The Divergences are now becoming my goto set up. This is across both stocks and futures. Also because of the divergences these tend to move farther then the underlying pattern suggests. Things are good.

Most of my thoughts are on the video so it saves me some typing here. I go over some great examples of what we all need to be looking for. This video is important as they all are. and the Kick Ass Trade is out also

http://ift.tt/1M1MvW1

https://youtu.be/3YNU7Ds0aOU

Every Friday I am off the Microphone and researching for the next week's watch list and trade setups. This takes me all day and into the night to complete and chart out and to finally get it out to all the members of http://ift.tt/1bdJIdh. Also during this time i am able to focus on my es trading which is harder when i am trying to broadcast and run the show. Each week I have been sending out some of this work on the emini. Discussing the setups, and HPS zones and if I see a trade I will take it. I would like the make this more of a weekly feature along with HPS watchlist. I will use this series to strictly point out every Ram in the Bush I can see happening on Friday and trade them. I will also do my best to discuss other HPS area's but not necessarily take them all as a trade. The Ram in the Bush in my opinion is to good not to pay attention to even if you don't trade this method.

So this is Video 1 of the series: I didn't record it like I was going to do this series so it is kinda raw and jumpy the next episodes will be produced better.

The Video is not edited My first trade actually got stopped out but I can see the set up and the set up was just a small running divergence. I got back in and got the trade then got pretty distracted and like I said its pretty raw. But it has a lot of core rules of trading the futures for myself and I was able to I hope get them across to you.

You can watch this on Youtube here Trading the Es With DayTraderRockStar

New swing trader looking for mentor | Houston

After many tireless nights at figuring out what I want to do for a career, I feel like I found my niche.

I want to trade stocks for a living.

I am trying to learn all I can about cultivating a strategy and have been researching all types of methods (RSI, Coppock curve, OBV, Stochastic, etc...)

Although it's only been for 2 months, my current trading stats are as follows:

-Total transactions = 23 -Average % return per trade = 1.43% -Average length stock held = 2.84 days -Trade gain = 73.6% | Trade loss = 26.4%

My stats look good I think but I feel like I am flying by the seat of my pants and guessing way too much.

I am organized, committed and looking to be a sponge if anyone is willing to teach.

hi, I couldn't find an answer to this on Google: if a private company is purchasing a subsidiary of a public company, the public company insiders are subject to blackout periods if they are aware of material news. but if definitive deal was reached, could the private company continue to purchase the public company's securities on the open market after they became aware the deal was finalized? Or are they subject to the same sort of blackout periods? Does anyone know if this is true in general, or specifically in Canada? TIA

TSLA 10% drop - guesses on floor?

Went on a little spending spree, hope I found the floor! I read that some tesla insider dumped 10,000 shares at $218 (he still holds $29Million more). Wonder if that's the rug that got pulled?

I only post this because I know a bunch of other posters here follow TSLA closely.

Need some ETF help.

Hey guys/gals. Can anyone provide me with a way to search ETFs by volume? Specifically I'm wondering if there are any other ETFs out there with a similar or better combination of volume and volatility as the UWTI/DWTI and NUGT/DUST funds provide. Are those two funds the very best in that sense?

Why Morgan Stanley hasn't met market expectation?

I'm interesting this question because it is the worst percentage drop of its market cap since 2012. Morgan Stanley reported earnings of $740 million, or $0.34 per share, down from $1.3 billion, or $0.64 per share delivered a year ago. Revenue also fell to $7.332 billion. I searched around the internet for answer (including social networks and financial news aggregators like http://ift.tt/1PwvDMP ) but the answer is "bad financial management". Could you specify this idea or provide me with more relevant one?

(Early Macro Monday) "Efficient Market Theory and its application".

The 'Efficient Market hypothesis' (EMH) was probably developed around the 1860s in france, its basic law can be summarised like this: "The share price of an entity reflects the true value. It's a sort of intrinsic value". This is often misunderstood as the liquidation value divided by the number of shares issued. It actually means the total value including non-quantifiable attributes such as the perceived value and the potential value(s) of future and current products.

The efficient market theory is often dismissed by traders because the mechanisms of buying dips and shorting peaks is seen as the only active "blunting" in the charts. (Blunting is the process of reversal or correction of a sharp trend once market sentiment shifts). Remember: EMH isn't a result of trader sentiment or arbitrary trend it's the theory which explains it.

In application the efficient market theory explains why speculation doesn't go on rampant for months or years, at some point in a trend the market will realise the price is straying too far from the 'true price' and will bet the other way (or at least close out, effectively betting the other way). When you're trading there's no real way to profit from this knowledge but keep in mind that if a company can stay solvent through a downward spin its general tendency is to return to the efficient price. If a company such as VW flogs off assets and cuts back to respond to poor market opinions this is effect the efficient price because the overall value of the company has declined along with the perceived value. This means when the price returns to the EM price it will be lower than it was before. If VW remains solvent through the tough times without compensating (which in general is impossible) its a good bet to assume the price will, within a reasonable timeframe, return to the EM price. This is why good research is vital! I know too many traders who assume that if the share price is down the intrinsic value of the company is too. Because there is no metric for 'EM price relative' (Let's call that X≦EPR. 'X' being the current market price as a result of trend and EPR being 'Efficient Price Relative) its impossible to make a good estimate as to the true EM price without some calls and emails.

To find out if 'X≦EPR' is true of the stock you're interested in build a profile of the current corporate climate by looking at recent news/leaks or anything that will give you an idea as to the response of the company at the time of 'X'

I appreciate most of you here trade equity options, generally considered to involve a lot less research and a lot more fundamental analysis - But this is a vital concept to grasp of you hope to get a good idea of what the macro market is doing. EMH applies to the consolidated stock price on any one index (as well as, to some extent, every index).

I hope this didn't get too complex for you to follow, i'd prefer to describe it all with some juicy mathematical formula but that feeling, I think you'll agree, is a #justhedgefundthing.

New to trading. Question regarding a stock

So I am new to trading, so forgive my ignorance.

I work at Starbucks and we get stock granted to us every year. I have 9 shares that will vest in a month and I am thinking of investing them in AMD.

AMD manufactures computer components (gpu and cpus) and has been doing poorly in recent years, especially on its CPU line. Their competitor, Intel, has dominated them as far as CPUs go. AMD sits anywhere from 1.60-2.00 and has been going down for years.

I'm thinking of taking my 9 shares in SBUX and using those to purchase AMD on the grounds that either their new line of GPUs coming out will raise the price, or, similar to Apple and Microsoft in the 90s, Intel will buy non voting shares of AMD to reinvigorate the competition.

Any advice or help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Who wants to do a live Q&A tonight about the stock market?

Ok so here's the deal: some of you know me, I run Greenbar Trading and trade for a living and post my watchlists here occasionally. I also am the creator of /r/1krobinhoodproject where I've been posting public trades with full disclosure since March and swing trading a small 1k account just to demonstrate what profitable trading is like. That account is up about 30% since I opened it while the s&p is negative. That's cause I've been trading for 10+ years (mostly swing trading on the side of a full time job) but since 2013 I've been successfully trading full time (obviously with a bigger account than the Robinhood one lol). So needless to say I have a good amount of experience and a proven track record and have become pretty savvy with helping people grow small accounts and get started in trading.

Now the fun part! I run a small private chat room (on Slack) for people that I mentor privately in "all things stocky" and I'm going to open up a public chat either tonight or tomorrow and spend a couple hours just doing an AmA kinda thing and answering questions live for people. Nothing super formal, just come in and ask any questions you want about charts, how to get started in the market, books to read, how to open an account, how to pick good stocks, fundamental and/or technical analysis, trading, investing, day trading, whatever. There are no stupid questions and all experience levels are welcome. I'll answer them live and we can have live discussion about them. No delays waiting for responses or any of that. If it goes well we can make it a weekly thing or something as long as I have time. Then afterwards maybe I can post a link to the logs or something for people who missed it.

Any takers? Would you guys be interested in this? If so I'll set it up and edit this post to provide the link and the start time. I've done stuff like this before on tickertv and it was really successful but now tickertv has shut down so I'm gonna open up a new avenue.

Anyway let me know if you'd find this useful and if so let's do it tonight like 8pm est or so!

Why are Futures and Forex more popular as financial instruments for short-term trading given that there are thousands of stocks out there which should provide more trading set-ups opportunities than Futures and Forex?

No statistics to prove that that futures and forex are more popular than stocks for short-term trading. But talking to people into this business, I do find that futures and forex are more popular for short-term trading. If yes, why so? I am puzzled why futures and forex given the limited choices. There are thousands of stocks but much fewer futures and currencies. Wouldn't there be fewer trading opportunities in futures and currencies as a result?

Questions

2 things:

1) Does anyone know if there is a way to have excel automatically pull stock prices and refresh itself everyday? I can import a table of historical prices but I'm not sure if it can update itself.

2) Is there a specific way to look at a stock and find the day with its largest open and close difference? Cant tell from just the graphs. I need an easier way compared to sifting through 10 years of prices.

Thanks in Advance

What good books to understand how stock markets work ?

I would like to be able to understand how the price is determined (the one we see in yahoo finance for instance), the level 1 level 2 thing, if it is possible to access the buy and sell orders individually and maybe get the identity of the owner of that order, how does the high frequency trading work... Are there good books on that subject ?

FCAU went down from around 14.50 to low 12 after the VW scandal, but since has recovered to 15.90 after hours on friday. I made some money on this and I don't want to get greedy, but it seems as though it is at its peak and should be going down. There is no catalyst for this however, Ferrari stock pricing and exo date should be released soon, and earning report comes out at the end of the month.

19 years old and going to start investing in the stock market, need help.

My grandfather and I are in the final process of opening an online trading account to, in the end, buy and sell stocks. He wants the best for me, so he insisted on doing this for me as a way of learning this business at a young age, and possibly making something good out of it. (a career?) On the same note, I'm also super motivated to learn and do everything I could to make money off stocks, but I need some initial guidance. I know I'll be starting super small, but this is just stepping stones to hopefully bigger and more success in the future. Does anyone have any tips or websites I could be linked to that could really help me out? Thanks for any comments in advance.

Today is the 7-year anniversary of one of the wildest market days in recent history...

does anyone remember it?

there are a few youtube videos that i had created and put up in that thread as well...

what a crazy trading day that was!

fwiw- that day had been the largest single-day point range in the djia's history up until aug. 24th of this year...

i had never seen swings in the markets in a single-day quite like that day! it was just breathtaking to say the least...

Damn it feels good to be a Trader..and Market Radar

I wish I didn't put all the current market conditions on this video cause the other information is more important and I want people to understand the value of using a method to trade in this case the HPS. Trading is hard because we have to deal with emotions. Emotions ruin any chance we have on applying a technique in the market based off of statistics and or technical analysis. What I have done over 10 years of strategy building and 20 years of market trading is identify what is definitely unreliable, What is reliable and what is highly probable. There are many techniques out there, 1000's of indicators and not to mention algorithms and trading programs. You have to find your way in a market that can move on a dime do to a false news release or rumor. There is not much you can do in some situations but the majority of the time you can profit as long as you stick to a proven strategy and try your hardest to keep the emotional trading in check. If you know our community and our methods then you are on the right path. I am so confident when i say our divergence set up's and stochastic combo's that build our trading playbook are the best chance to trade today's markets. This Video again goes into the core of HPS there are 3 text book examples that we trade. I hope it complements your strategy and see you in the markets

What steps would I take if I wanted to create a risk adjusted portfolio that beat the ACWI as a benchmark?

Basically I'm trying to devise a portfolio that can do better than the ACWI. I was wondering what tools I should be using and how I should begin. I know pretty decently about portfolio theory but no idea how to optimize it and find the right balance to beat this bench mark. I'm doing this as a learning experience.

Thank you.

How knowledgable do you have to be to make money off stock market investments?

I have no idea what I'm doing. I have a friend who does it regularly and is teaching me. I just ordered a couple books off amazon to learn. In general does it take skill to invest and make money or is it just basic knowledge and then a matter of luck? I have $10,000 I want to invest.

Sentiment analysis/modeling in finance?

Long story short, I started a company with a phD student whose thesis centered on studying the efficacy of using sentiment/linguistic analysis as a method of mitigating risk and building trust in the sharing economy. The algorithm and API we developed worked quite well and even got patented.

However, we acted on a hunch and augmented the technology to measure sentiment on particular stocks across Twitter. My question is: is this a feature that is currently used - or would be valuable - to the finance industry? Either day traders, financial institutions, or maybe hedge funds?

Taxes on stock gains

So I live in Montreal, Canada and am on the verge of beginning to trade and one of my biggest questions to which I have yet to obtain an answer from is if there are taxes on stock gains? Do you keep all of the profits (minus commission obviously) you make off a trade? If no, are taxes applicable once you withdraw the money from you portfolio? What if you use a TFSA? I ask because I have understood that in London (I believe) 100% of the money you make, you keep thus making 100k in the stock market is more in the end rather than making 100k in a taxable job.

What are the best long term investing software available on the internet and is CFD trading sutible for long term trading?

Sorry if this post is in the wrong area/wrong flair or should not be asked as part of the rules.

I am new to trading and investing with only about 2 years of watching the markets and learning them as a side hobby in hopes to make a profit from them in my future.

What are the best online services that are best for long term investments? and are CFD trades best for long term?

I currently use Plus500 (London based) to keep and eye on the markets and record the values of them daily in Excel spread sheets and work out the average of each week to see where thay are going in terms of value.

I am based in the UK and I am planning from a young age for my future (21) I am a student in University and do plan to work and live in america in the future and I have heard that american trading laws are different from the rest of the world. Is there anything i should watch out for when trading in the UK and in america? mainly what is the differance between them?

Sorry if too many questions have been asked but all help will be appreciated. But the summary of this post's questions are:

What are the best long term investing software services are there available on the internet? Is CFD trading suitable for long term investing? What are the best methods of trading long term? What are the differance between trading in the USA and the rest of the world. (summary)
