Stocks I'm watching tomorrow, 7/1/2015

Happy July!

June is over and we are into the second half of 2015! The last couple days have been very volatile but I managed to trade them well. On Monday per my plan I stuck to only trading XIV and VXX, back and forth throughout the day for small scalps that ultimately added up to a nice day. Today I took three trades, BLRX long at $2.60 and out at $2.7140, SGYP long at $8.22 and out at $8.36, and MCRB which I actually traded three times and the first two were losses but finally nailed it on the last one, from $40.00 to $40.90 and $40.60. Ultimately MCRB just ended up being a commission burner as I was flat overall on the trade but it felt good to get it right on the third try! As far as the Greece situation goes nothing has changed really so we're just playing to volatility game until there is some certainty (hopefully) after this weekend as the Greeks hold their referendum. Until then I will be just taking it day by day and being very reactive on my trades rather than trying to anticipate everything.

The main trades I have on my list tomorrow are ACRX (long over $4.30 area), SGYP (long for $8.39 breakout) and CTRV (long for $5.15 breakout. I like ACRX the best and will likely try to jump on it first thing in the morning for a quick push to $4.40 - $4.50 with a stop under $4.20, but anything can happen in this market so we'll have to see if it gaps up/down/whatever. CTRV I likely won't trade because it's so thin BUT if it does give a tight entry (less than 5-10 cents risk) I will take it. Not going to play this game where it can wick 15-20 cents up and down in a candle even though I will be sad I missed it when it inevitably breaks out...it's better to be safe on stuff like this one. On the back burner I still have the obvious XIV/VXX combo for scalping market volatility, FIT and MCRB as IPOs that have been performing very nicely, and FREE for a possible red to green move off today's 13G filing. On top of those, in the next few days I expect GERN, ZIOP and ARNA to continue up and tomorrow CLNE could be a nice bounce as it meets my parabolic short criteria and has been trying to base intraday.

I hope everyone had a great day and made some moolah! Let me know if you have any questions!

Chris

Oversold bounce on the S and P likely to terminate at 2073?

2073 will be major resistance at least in the near term. This was major support for the market the last 2 weeks and we broke it decisively yesterday. So am looking for a failed bounce to that area. Major support at 2054 (200 DMA). Breach of this and all hell could break loose pretty fast.

How will Netflix's 7:1 Split Effect it's Market Value?

I know that while the share price is going to be cut in 7 there are going to be 7 times as many shares. So, in theory, it's value should remain the same.

I'm new to the market and have no experience with this kind of move; so historically, what has a split like this done to a company's market value?

6/23/15 Watchlist W/ Plans

6/24 Watchlist

Here is my watchlist for tomorrow. I have a lot of stuff to do tomorrow so I am most likely not going to trade. This will probably be my last watchlist post on here for a really long time.

Dex Media, Inc. (DXM) is approaching a technical breakout and is a big squeezer. Would like to see this open weak, red/green move and a parabolic move over 1.25. Will be interesting tomorrow.

Magnum Hunter Resources Corp. (MHR) looking for one of 2 things tomorrow. Failed follow though momentum at 1.8 and fades. Weak open red/green parabolic over 1.8.

Energous Corporation (WATT) has really only moved in the last half hour. Looking for gap up parabolic over 10 and will look to get short on a fade. This isn't the first time in the stocks history it has done this.

Green Dot Corporation (GDOT) looking for fader.

InterCloud Systems, Inc. (ICLD) ideally fails follow though momentum at 3.10 and fades on the day. Be very careful of a short squeeze because its very possible this could be 3.50+ if you're not careful.

DS Healthcare Group, Inc. (DSKX) on radar for a big pullback.

Anthera Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (ANTH) just on radar until it snaps.

Stocks I'm watching tomorrow, 6/24/15

Hey all!

Another consolidation day in the market day as we sit at the top of the range and volume is pretty light. Only moves I made today were selling half my CLDN from $2.26 yesterday at $2.36 and opening a new overnight position on APPY at .59. I didn't see much on my scans tonight other than maybe some continuation plays on WATT and GDOT. I didn't add to CMCM at all today so still just hanging with the same average and waiting. It didn't have much volume today so I didn't think it was wise to try to scalp intraday. I'll keep it on watch for tomorrow to see if I can get my average a little bit lower with a couple more scalps. I have it just about where I want it though so at this point it's mostly just hanging out waiting to see if the market breaks up or down.

Also we have SPDC, DXM, DHT and IMUC which could still continue to run. Lastly I have GSS on watch but it's really thin and I'm not sure the upside is worth it so I'll likely just watch. Once we get a few more volatile days in the market I'll be back to my normal way of making watchlists but for now this method seems to be working.

Hope everyone had a nice day!

Chris

THE STOCK BUSINESS NEWS

The week started on a positive note on the back of positive global clues. The Bulls were active right from the initial trades. Expected Bank Nifty to move above the 18400 mark. However, due to mint profit booking towards the flat end, the banking index closed with extra gains of 2.54 percent. The Bank Nifty has managed to cross its major resistance of 18170 – 18200 levels on a closing basis, which shows the strength in the index. Going forward, the Bank Nifty may extend its ongoing move towards 18600 – 18800 levels. On the flip-side, the immediate support for the index is placed at 18150 – 17930 levels.

Stocks I'm watching tomorrow, 6/23/15

Hey hey!

Nice day today. It took me a bit to get it going but once I did it turned out ok in the end. One of those days where you feel all day like you're red and then look at the end of the day and go "oh nice, I actually made money, haa" - I took just one small day trade in OCLS at $1.59 but it popped to $1.65 and then got stuck so I took it off at $1.56 about 1.5 hours later. I continued to work my average down on CMCM, which took me a few more tries than I expected but I nailed it in the end. First I tried to play the $33 bounce so grabbed $32.95, but it couldn't hold $33 so I took it off flat, then I tried again at $32.48 and it couldn't break $32.50 so I took it off for a 30c loss at $32.18, and finally nailed it at $32.43 and sold $33.05. All that effectively got me back to 1/3 size again and now I have $34.26 average vs the $34.60 I had Friday, and $35.05 which I started with. This is kinda a game you gotta play on these big range stocks if you want to swing them cause they're often unpredictable. The idea is basically just to get my average into the middle/lower part of the flag on the daily chart and then add to it from there. So far the volume's been light on the pullback the last two days so I am expecting more buying to come in soon. In the mean time I'll just keep trading around that 1/3 size core position and scalping it intraday racking up small gains to work my average price down. It should be noted that I am doing this with a bunch of free trades I had on Scottrade so I wouldn't be in as good of shape on it w/o them. I'm almost out now so I will have to be a little more accurate than I was today ;) My ultimate goal is to take it for a swing over highs to $40-45 but Iw ant to have a $33-34 average by then and a good size position! Also I took some IBIO long at $1.06 overnight on the news of another couple of Ebola cases in Sierra Leone, and am swinging some CLDN from $2.26-2.29 today anticipating the $2.39 breakout. big spots are $2.36, $2.39, $2.65 andthen about every 10 cents up to 3 bucks, after which it has a big gap to fill so I will be watching those levels along the way. I also finally stopped out of my ENZN swing today at $1.24 from $1.33 a while ago and I'm still holding a swing on ABIO from $0.98 which is back at breakeven again, lol. Hopefully it busts tomorrow and actually holds this time. It'snot really using much buying power so I just decided to let it ride a while. I didn't see a ton of great stuff on my scan but there are a few nice ones so I'll just detail the ones I like but I don't really have specific plans for any of these...just managing my swings mostly:

AMRN (long) - Looks good over $2.50 daily level but it could really do anything in the morning so will have to see how it opens to plan for it

CPRX (long) - Still chillin in this consolidation between $4-4.20. It will pop eventually

FMSA (long) - Getting very close to a breakout over $9.50 IMO

GERN (long) - Nice runner today and closed strong. I still think it's better for a swing but if it gets volume it could be a nice daytrade too

AXPW (long) - big bounce today and was flagging all day. Watching for continuation tomorrow

ZBB (long) - Still stalking for a run over .95-1.00 ... swing type stock. Very thin

SSYS (long) - Back again from the bottom! I have no problem rebuying this for the $38 break. Revenge tastes so sweet ;)

Hope everyone had a nice Monday! I overslept and woke up at 9:20am haha so I had some fun scrambling to get ready for the open and probably missed a lot of good stuff but I'm proud of myself cause usually when that happens I just jump into somethin like a retard and lose 500 bucks out of the gate and then I have to spend the day grinding back to profit, lol. So gonna get some sleep tonight! Let me know if anyone has questions :)

Chris

Stocks I'm watching tomorrow, 6/22/15

Hi everyone!

Awesome week in the markets last week as there was a nice bounce on 4 out of 5 days. The whole “buy the dip” philosophy still seems to be working within this range so I’ve just been trying to nail some swing longs when we’re at the bottom of the range and sell them near the top. At the top I try to find extended charts and day trade them short. Last week I actually did mostly swings and it worked out really nicely with AMDA being a huge gainer again, and starting to work into a position on CMCM. I also added more money to my Scottrade account so I can swing w/ more size. I’m trying to work in a mix of swings and day trades since the market is still up and down and very volatile within this sideways consolidation, but overall I think it’s working, lol. Anyway, for next week I am going to continue working my CMCM position (I have a $34.60 average now after booking some profits on Friday from $33.89 buys intraday), and I’m back to just 1/3 size on it. I plan to average in another 1/3 on Monday and then play the same game again…sell that 1/3 for profit during the day so I just systematically work my average down til the trade finds support in its daily flag, and then I will start adding size for the breakout over $36-37. Of course this assumes that no news comes out that forces me out of the trade or anything like that. I also really like LOCO for a bounce tomorrow, maybe on a pullback toward $21-21.20 and the goal being a $22-23 target. My other main watch is RGSE. This one slipped off my scan because the chart got messed up due to the split, but when I looked at a split adjusted chart (check freestockcharts.com for split adjusted) it looked beautiful! So I’ll be watching for strength in the $3.10-$3.20 area for an ultimate $3.30 breakout to $3.50-3.75, which would be about $.20-.23 pre-split. It may encounter a little resistance at the 50dma around $3.39 but should have no problem pushing through that as long as it has volume.

Gonna keep it short and sweet tonight. Also keeping an eye on GDP for a parabolic bounce next week as it’s down 7 days in a row and approaching a 50% loss and a round number at $1.50. I suspect $1.50 may act as support like $1.00 did on REN and these energy names seem to be bouncing well lately.

By the way, if you haven’t yet had a chance, check out my new blog post on understanding FOMC announcements (posted elsewhere in this sub so won't relink)

Thanks y’all, have a good night!

Chris

Blog post on understanding FOMC actions!

Hey hey! I made a new blog post on how I interpret FOMC actions like the one that caused a big spike at 2pm on 6/17/15! This happens every time the FOMC releases the rate decision so I think it's useful to understand the implications. Anyway here's the link and let me know if you have any questions or if you know more than I do and want me to correct something, haha...I definitely don't pretend to know everything about the federal reserve system! That stuff is so complicated it makes my head spin!

Trading Eduction

I've been reading more and more about trading and investing. As I continue learning more, I have been browsing on Reddit & google, soaking in everything that I can. I came across a number of educational video courses, and so far I was thinking about signing up for this one as a resource just to learn more about trading strategies. The reason why I was thinking about this one was because they offered a lot of resources fairly inexpensively, so for $37 I'm thinking why not invest some time. Has anyone used their site before? Also, if anyone has a recommended book they found useful, I would appreciate a tittle!

What do you think is going to trigger the next crash?

I keep seeing posts on here like "Debt levels are at record levels", so what? The economy is built on debt, the economy keeps getting bigger, therefore record levels of debt is to be expected not unexpected. This is just an example of course, there have been several others predicted the next crash is due in the near future. So what's going to be the trigger?

Stocks I'm watching tomorrow, 6/18/15

Hey hey!

Well I think history was made today. I took zero trades! Haha. I dunno, I had a nice day yesterday, scalping AXPW in the morning from .22 to .33 and just killed it in the morning w/ that one trade and then took one more swing in LPTN which I had just a small position in and that was just chillin at the HOD so I held overnight. Well because I had that nice day and only took basically one trade worth mentioning I didn't even do any scans last night, and I woke up this morning and just had so much crap on my list from the day before I felt it was all cluttered up and just felt too lazy to clean it all out, so I just kind of stared at it...haha. There were some definite nice runners in NOR from my list recently and SGYP from news this morning, but I dunno...just wasn't feeling it today I guess so I just sat around and did nothing. SO! That said I felt obligated to do a blog post tonight and provide y'all with a plethora of stocks that will all run 150+% tomorrow and create some retirements and new millionaires obviously! So...here is my plan to turn you all into millionaires overnight (disclaimer: if you believe that can really happen you're an idiot):

HZNP (long):

Nice push on this today to new 52 week highs and very strong close that continued to push into after hours. I'll be looking for a pullback toward $33 in the morning and will watch for higher lows to develop at or under $33 in order to get long and play for a nice red to green. If it goes red to green I can see a $34-35 target pretty easily.

EJ (long):

Nice flag on the daily chart and seems to be holding over $7.00. I want to see a flat open and strength through $7.05 to get long with a stop under $6.95. The idea is that if this takes out $7.18 daily highs we will probably hit tiny resistance at $7.28 and then if it can clear that we're free to $7.70s.

DXM (long):

Very clean daily chart though it's a bit spikey and wild intraday...I think if this breaks over today's highs it will be a fast trip to $0.90. Penny stocks have been kind of a thing lately in the wake of the 500+% run on AXPW and we keep seeing them pop up ... AMDA, FREE, now DXM, JOEZ today etc. So I will go with the theme. I'd like to get this near .70 or even on a morning dump to .65 but I won't add much size until it shows a lot of strength because these names tend to go all at once and if it's not the day it's just not the day, so you don't wanna use a ton of size until you can confirm it is going to be a runner. Once you know it's got the volume and the speed these will run 40-50% in a day so it's no problem if you catch it 3-4% higher than you wanted. I'd much rather do that that buy 30k shares at .65 and have it fade to 60 cents by the end of the day w/ no liquidity so I can't even get out.

Anyway these are a few that I really like for tomorrow and actually are kind of in order with hoe difficult I think they'll be to play. HZNP will be pretty easy so if you're newer I'd go for that. EJ is a nice pattern but it can be a little spikey and wild so just be careful on size, and then DXM will be really tricky but will pay off if you're right and willing to be patient on it! I have a lot of other things on my list but I'm going to keep it to these three for now just so I don't have too much crap in my brain in the morning!

Hope y'all had a nice day. Let me know if you have any questions :)

Chris

Thoughts on NXPI Semi Conductors?

Summary

NXP Semi has flat-lined since the original excitement over the Freescale merger. Industry consolidation could help improve margins industry wide and provides realistic upside to the current analyst EPS projections for NXP Semi. The stock faces normal risks with a merger that might hold the stock down for now, but investors need to own this stock on approval. NXP Semiconductors (NASDAQ:NXPI) remains a favorite stock as it leverages a buyout of Freescale Semiconductor (NYSE:FSL) to higher profits. The stock has mostly stalled at the $100 level following the merger announcement in early March despite some bullish analyst calls.

Swingtrade Strikes

INSPIRED BY: lx21

About a month ago, I wrote down a bunch of swingtrades I was going to short (not with real money obviously). This was just a test to see if my new swingtrading strategy would actually work.... and somehow it really is working. I do not have a broker currently that is good with short selling swingtrades so it isn't an option. I used other swingtraders picks and scanned for what they could possibly be looking for. After hours of research I put it to the test. Every position is short.

Started on 5/19 here are my current ones followed by the ones I am done with:

Shorting Swingtrades:

Ticker Entry Price Target Closed Comment
ICLD 3.16 Target- 52% drop in 6 months CLOSED 2.77 6/8 simple swingtrade, basically what I expected. Covered early because of potential bounce.
MNGA 1.32 .80 cents in 3 months CLOSED 1.30 6/8 While it did drop after I got out, I didn't think this stock had the same pattern set up as the other ones listed. Therefor I got out with a tiny gain.
MNKD 7.23 5.50 in 1 month CLOSED 5.71 6/11 Basically got out quickly because I feared a bounce. Price target almost achieved.
THCZ .224 .10 in 3 months Still in this one, will wait until the price target finally hits, it may take another month. None
ESI 5.54 4 in 3 months CLOSED 4.12 6/3/15 Squeezing stock, got out while it dropped a ton!

I have over 70% accuracy on paper trading (daytrading futures). Now what?

Hi. I've been studying technical analysis and the stock market in general for the last 4 months. During the last month I've been watching the market and making my "trades" on paper for at least 3 hours everyday (mostly around 9am~12). I place all my exact price entries and exits/stops before "making the trade". I'm using 3 charts, 1 min (main), 5 min and 15 min, eventually giving the 60 min a look and starting every day with a look at the daily chart. I also keep a screen showing the main stocks (the 5 most traded stocks) because these are responsible for most of the index movement.

I aim for relatively big movements (15 min tops) only when there's a ~2.5/1 or higher reward/risk ratio. When I'm scalping, there's no such thing since the accuracy rate is extremely high for anyone. While scalping I'm aiming for ~50 points (commission will be 5 points) and risking up to 80. But scalping is an extremely tiring activity.

What should I expect when I trade with real money?

Does anyone here can share a similar experience? How did it went when you started trading real money?

EDIT: some users PM'd me asking about my strategy. It's no secret and it's probably not effective in other countries/markets (I trade BVMF futures). Try it at you own risk.

Greece, what are positions ?

Hey,

So a very quick questions, are you currently holding any positions related to the possible Greece exit ? Also have you identified any opportunities if they do or do not exit ?

Is the Price Action in the Euro suggestive of a stock market rally?

So the news about a potential Grexit is everywhere. Traders headed for the exits at the open, but the market is well off the lows. The Euro which is in the eye of the storm would logically be expected to sell off. The Euro is however up on the day. Given very good correlations between the Euro and other risk assets like stocks (Strong Euro and week dollar boost corporate profits) and the upcoming FOMC meeting which usually favours stock prices a bounce leading upto fed day appears likely.

I have good performance trading this year and a friend wants to give me some capital to invest it for him. What's the easiest way to set this up online?

Are there any limits on how much money he can give me?

Do I need to setup an entity?

What are the best online brokers that allow you to do that and how?

Stocks I'm watching tomorrow, 6/15/15

Hey y'all!

Last week was kind of up and down for me, and ultimately just finished the whole week just above flat. I didn't trade much and was just holding my swings for most of the week which probably explains the flatness, since the market was kinda all over the place, opening at $209.60s on Monday and closing $210.01 on Friday...so really we didn't go anywhere, lol. I stopped out of SSYS on Friday and also stopped out of HK for a small loss in my Robinhood account but I'm still holding REN which is at a nice profit for me, and ENZN which is just chillin around breakeven for me. So all in all kinda a blowout week for me where I just ended up wasting a lot of time staring at my screen, haha, but what can you do...part of the game! Maybe this week will bring some better action.

I've got my eye on three main trades for next week right now:

AMDA (long):

I'm already in this from $0.3620 on Friday but only got filled on 1000 shares in Robinhood. I plan to buy a lot more if I can get .36 or .37, maybe 10-20k shares, but I dunno if it will allow me to get in. It's a nice liquid stock but this $0.40 level is huge for it so if it starts breaking through that I suspect it just shoots off like a rocket to $0.55 and the trade will be over. The reason it's on my list is just to put it on your radar, as if it gets some juice it will probably give some nice intraday trades. Just pay attention to the daily highs as you work backward on the chart. You'll see .41, .44, .47, etc and then we'll probably see a push up toward $0.55-60. Through that move there may be chances to scalp it and unlike most penny stocks this one is LIQUID which makes a huge difference since you can easily buy a 20-30k block if you have the buying power (and the guts! :))

IBIO (long):

IBIO had a really nice breakout over $0.96 on Friday which has been a significant level for it for a while now. It closed over $1 also which to me is very significant. I will be watching for any indication of strength to start in for a short swing trade. Keep in mind I spoke with a good trader I know tonight and he suggested being careful on any swing with size since the company only has about $8m in cash and could try to raise at any time. My ideal trade on this would be a pullback under $1.00 and then reclaim of $1 as my signal of strength.

NTLS (long):

This is a parabolic bounce setup like REN which worked awesome. This one isn't as clean since it's not down as much as REN was but it is approaching $5.00 which has been a huge inflection point for months now. I expect a quick flush toward/under $5.00 and then a setup intraday of higher lows to start long for a day trade. I don't expect a huge bounce in this but it should be relatively easy to capture 15-20 cents on it if it can bounce off that $5.00 area.

Hope everyone had an awesome weekend and let me know if ya have any questions!

Chris

Is this the time to sell me Apple stocks?

So When I was much younger I bought into Apple when it was very low. My return on investment right now is over 550%. I can hold on to the stocks long term, I don't really need the money right now. I am just wondering if you think it will continue to rise, has Apple hit its peak? I'm just not sure they can continue to innovate at the rate they were.

Edit: Sell MY Apple Stocks

Stocks I'm watching tomorrow, 6/15/15

Terrible week for me last week. REN and HK were down huge the last two days, with HK and SSYS hitting my stop limits. ENZN is also not doing anything. I am beginning to question my trading system and will be returning the $500 to the students I took on last week. I shouldn't be getting paid for such terrible recommendations.

At least I can give one final lesson. Don't load up on margin on your positions. HK wiped out my gains for the entire year due to margin.

Finally, I am looking for someone to possibly train me to trade a system that works. Is anyone interested? I can't pay you obviously until I make a little profit.

No more recommendations from me from now on. Good luck everyone.

Stocks I'm watching tomorrow, 6/12/2015

Hi all!

Decent day today with a couple of nice trades from my list on GEVO and MBLY from a couple days ago. I didn't take GEVO as I was focusing on MBLY in the morning which I bought at $48.40 and sold at $49.28 and $48.98. I wanted to rebuy but it never really gave me a good opportunity. I took a small loss on GTXI from $1.31 to $1.24, and a small gain on YOKU short at $29.63 (added more at $29.56 and covered in the $29.40s). I planned to reshort YOKU on pops but my rule of minimal to no trading from 12pm-3pm kept me out of it, and for good reason as we can see that it squeezed into the close and got stuck bouncing around aimlessly between 12-3pm. It was nice to see some positive reinforcement of that rule. I also sold my SYMX swing at $1.51 from $1.40 a few days ago. It started to flop in the morning but then randomly spiked in the middle of the day back to $1.50 so I decided to take the gift there since it wasn't even supposed to be a swing in the first place. So I am out of that now. I'm still long HK, REN, ENZN and SSYS, which are still above my stop losses. For those wondering my stops are $1.15, $1.11, $1.23 and $34.99 respectively. Those may change depending on action but those are the general areas where I'd consider the setups to be broken. All in all a good day for day trading and a stable day for swings. Here's my plan for tomorrow:

CLF (long):

CLF has a nice bottoming pattern on the daily and trended nicely all day today. I'll be watching for morning weakness to buy into for a continuation up to $6 or so. I want to see the stock hold the $5.35-5.40 area for entry and the stop can be relatively tight, only 5-10 cents. Same plan as always...watch morning flush and then higher lows to play with risk against the low of the day.

CLDN (long):

Another beaten down name that was showing some nice strength today. Over $2.36 I could see this push toward $2.65 very quickly and if it gets over $3 we may see some fireworks as it has a huge gap to fill. I don't expect this all to happen tomorrow but it was hinting at a little strength today and closed strongly flagging under $2.25. I want to see it hold that same consolidation. I will get long on any sign of strength or if it decides it wants to flush down I will go in smaller after it makes higher lows and only add to it after it takes out $2.25-2.30 and develops a solid up trend. This stock is pretty beat down so it might still need more time, but the signs are starting to point upwards IMO.

As for back burner ideas I'll also be watching EDU for a continuation through $26.50 (r/g type move) and a pullback to $50 on MBLY to see if it can bounce off $50 and continue up toward $52-53. I have YOKU on the back burner for a short also even though it is clearly bull flagging. It could break to the upside but the bottom line is the whole reason for the recent push was that they announced they had an exclusive deal with Disney for their Marvel collection, and then 3 days later "clarified" the PR by saying that the deal was not exclusive...so to me that basically seems like a pump job. Seems nothing material has changed but I could be missing something. Anyway point is for me it seems like a short fundamentally, but it could still pop out of this flag based purely on technicals so I will be ready to play either direction. Lastly I am stalking MELA, DXM and AMDA for possible trades in my Robinhood account, and also eyeballing CYBR for a swing off this dip if HACK and SPY both stay strong.

Alright, that's it for tonight...hope everyone had fun today!

Chris

Please explain the new Yahoo overnight trading charts

The 1d and 5d interactive charts on Yahoo Finance now show trades outside NYSE trading hours, but I can't figure out their time scale, other than that it shows New York time.

Opening and closing times (9:30 AM & 4PM) are marked with a sun and moon respectively, but the distance between close and open is highly variable. What determines that distance?

There is one time marked with a clock face during the night, but the time is very variable. 4AM is overrepresented, and other times it seems to mark price peaks. What is special about 4AM?

On what markets are these night trades being made? In the case of GLD, it seems like that's where all the action is.

Is there any place where Yahoo explains this page?

Is there any way for ordinary American punters to trade on these overnight exchanges?

It's really frustrating to have stop and limit orders set, and have them bypassed by opening gaps resulting from markets we have no access to.

Stocks I'm watching tomorrow, 6/11/15

Yo yo!

Sick bounce day for SPY with lots of nice movers from my list. SRPT and CLNE both pushed pretty nicely, and even though I was short biased on HRTX it turned into a sick long as the shorts got squeezed. That's what I warned about last night since it was so crowded...sometimes this is what happens so you have to be careful and adapt to the situation at hand. I took PBMD off for a small loss early in the morning after it tried to break out a couple more times and failed, but I plan to retry it soon. SYMX I am still holding and it had a really nice run today. I'm also still long SSYS which tried to break out today (failed this time but showed some serious strength), long HK from $1.26 and long REN from $1.11. Lastly I opened a new swing on ENZN long at $1.33 and plan to hold until it breaks the flag it's currently forming. All in all a fun day. For tomorrow I don't really see anything I want to attack right at the open. There are a couple nice patterns like GEVO which was pretty strong today. I plan to watch dips on that to see if it can hold above $4 and will try to get long with risk under $4.00 for a r/g move to $4.50 or so. Also MOBL had a nice PR today and could get some juice from that tomorrow. Others I noticed are PENN which had a strong breakout to new 52 week highs today and NQ which was consolidating nicely under $6.30 but it's pretty extended so I don't know how I feel about longing it. So anyway I guess since I have no solid plans I will just be sitting on my hands for the morning and managing my open swings, waiting for the right opportunity for day trades. Still top of my list is PBMD since that $2.50 level is so big. Other than that I'll just be chillin and waiting for something good!

Hope everyone had a great day!

Chris

FYI for anyone using DAS Trader (Centerpoint, Speedtrader, Suretrader, etc) - DDoS attack expected today

For anyone who doesn't know DAS Inc. is being targeted by an extortion group asking them to pay a bunch of bitcoins in order to prevent a DDoS attack (distributed denial of service). In other words, the group has a big botnet of computers and will flood DAS servers to take them offline unless they are paid. They did a small test attack the other day and took it offline for an hour or so and said they will attack again in a couple days if not paid so they are serious about it. @DASsupport on Twitter made an announcement about it on June 8th. DAS is preparing and planning ahead but just letting everyone know because if you're trading with one of these brokers the software may disconnect and be unable to reconnect during the attack. In other words, keep sizes small and make sure you have stop losses set in case the software disconnects you. Personally I will just be using a different account to trade for today and will just have a stop set on my one open position in DAS.

This is becoming a common thing (hackers extorting brokers and financial sites with a DDoS) but hopefully DAS has some safeguards in place to help. In the mean time, just be warned...the software can disconnect and stay offline at any time so make sure you don't get yourself into a bunch of positions that you can't get out of. If you need help you should be able to contact DAS through their live chat support but they will probably be slow since their #1 priority is going to be stopping the flood.

Oh internet, you scary!

Stocks I'm watching tomorrow, 6/10/15

Hi everyone!

Nice day with a killer move in REN from my watchlist last week. I grabbed it at $1.11 yesterday and sold 1/2 at $1.27 today and am swinging the rest overnight again. I think we see $1.50-1.60 on it. I also started new swings in HK at $1.26, PBMD at $2.23 and SYMX at $1.40, and am still holding my SSYS swing from $37.39 yesterday. I planned for PBMD and SYMX to be day trades but both were just kinda chillin in the range I bought them so I decided since SPY is in bounce mode I'd give them a chance overnight. I may just end up getting out of both flat or for small losses tomorrow but we'll see...I think PBMD has some real potential over $2.50 so I wanted to be a little greedy even though I had a nice profit on it today! Anyway overall a good day thanks mostly to REN. I don't see a ton of great stuff on my scans tonight and I probably won't take anything new tomorrow since I already have five swings, but there were a couple gems I figured I'll make a plan for just in case, and for when/if I unload SYMX and PBMD tomorrow:

MBLY (long):

Awesome move on this today after the NTSB announced they are pushing to make collision avoidance systems standard in all vehicles. MBLY develops these kinds of systems so it should create a lot of hype in the stock. I will be looking for a pullback in the morning to the mid to low $47s in order to get long similar to how I entered SSYS (basically wait for flush then look for higher lows and play vs LOD). It's also very possible that this will gap up so if it does I will just wait for a trend to develop and see if we can buy some dips. This is a perfect type of situation since we have a positive news catalyst on a low float liquid stock that is approaching a major daily breakout level and also have the market in bounce mode and people buying hype stocks and throwing risk around. I could see this push to $50+ tomorrow.

HRTX (short):

As we've been expecting for a few days HRTX announced a proposed secondary offering after hours which caused a little crack under $26. Remember that two weeks ago this stock was only 50% of what it is today and this move was due to positive phase 3 trial results. I do think the stock can go either way as phase 3 is a significant milestone but I know there is a heavy short bias on it also so I'm putting it here as a short. My plan on it is to see how it opens and let it settle, then pick a trend. If it trends sideways or up I will leave it alone but if it begins to trend down I will short pops and join in since it's very overextended. I'd advise caution because there will be a lot of people shorting this and it will be crowded which can make it act weird, so let it settle and let the trade come to you. Don't think it HAS to go down just because they did an offering...they didn't say how much, when, or what price they will do it at so there is a possibility it can still squeeze especially if it suckers in a lot of early shorts with a lame breakdown in the morning. Anyway point is just join the trend after it's formed and you have a defined risk level.

Here are some others from past lists and also from my scans that could be interesting in the coming days:

CLNE (long) - Still trying to break that $8 level. Watching for a bounce soon

ENZN (long) - Coiling around $1.30 ... very tight so I believe a breakout to $1.50-1.60 is imminent

SRPT (long) - Nice breakout in the $27 area

RCPI (long/short) - This one could go either way. Just putting it on my list for day trades ... could be nothing but it kinda has that look like it wants to pull a PTBI/PBMD/VLTC type move

CUR (short) - Watching for parabolic push up to $2.60-2.75 for short

AMBA (short) - Stalking for a blowoff to $120-130 for short. So far it's just grinding so it can keep going. Remember it's a $100 stock so it can get wild and see $140, $150 etc. Just keep it on radar or play long on dips til it's ready

HACK (no bias) - This isn't really a trade but this ETF has been strong lately and it can be a guide for stuff like CYBR, MBLY, FEYE, etc. I'm stalking CYBR for a dip buy and using HACK as the guide rather than SPY. If you're trading cybersecurity or tech plays then HACK could be useful as a guide for them

Hope everyone had an awesome day!

Chris

Trading a Parabolic Bounce

Hey guys and girls,

Figured I'd do something a little different here since I had some free time during the day and give y'all a peek into my thought process on some of the stocks I'm trading. One of my favorite setups to play is a parabolic bounce where the stock has been beaten down a ton over a period of several days and then has a strong bounce which you can hold for a couple days as the early shorts take their profits from way above.

My most recent one was REN which I posted in my sub at /r/1krobinhoodproject. It's actually a relatively simple play and easy to scan for since basically all you have to do is look for something that's been red for 6-10 days in a row and has dropped more than 40-50% over that time period. Ideally it will be sitting on support on the daily chart like REN was, and even better if it's a round number (e.g. anything ending in .50 or .00).

The idea is basically that stocks don't go straight down. They ebb and flow with the trends in the market, and so when a stock becomes too stretched it will snap back like a rubberband. The further it goes down with no rest, the more violent the snapback. It should be noted that you want something that has had a series of selling days...not just something that gets slammed on bad news. You don't want to try to "guess" the bottom or catch a falling knife. 99% of the time you will be wrong if you do this and will take a loss. Instead you're looking for a stock that is being sold constantly for several days with little to no rest so the sellers just exhaust themselves and over time it shows up on lots of peoples' radar.

So anyway, once a stock meets my criteria for a parabolic bounce (7 days down, greater than 40% drop, and minimum 500k shares average daily volume), there are a few indications I look for that a bounce is coming which allows me to time them pretty well.

  • First you want to see the selling slow down (i.e. you want to see daily volume fade off and see the rate at which the stock is dropping start to slow down). This is where the early buyers will jump in and try to catch the knife. It's also usually where you will end up getting f'd.

  • Once you see the buying slow down you wanna see a couple last minute dumps as the final sellers dump their positions, kick the early buyers' stop losses, and smart money starts filling their buy orders

  • Over the next day or so you will start to see the stock show morning strength (rapid acceleration in the mornings accompanied by lots of volume). Once the stock shows morning buying strength you want to see it base above the major support. Also you will often see the stock close green this day.

  • The next day is the buy. You're looking again for morning strength followed by a higher base than the previous day. Now you can buy any time and hold for the swing trade with a stop loss under the major daily support or under the lower base.

Here's an annotated chart on REN showing my thought process and an example. http://ift.tt/1JCWYuc

Subsequently REN has had a 25% bounce today. i sold half for a 15% gain so far and will hold the rest for the next couple days.

A couple other notes: These work best when the market is also in a bounce area, so look for areas where SPY can bounce, and also focus on the type of stock you're trading the bounce on and make sure its associated ETF can also bounce. In this case REN is an energy stock so I timed it with a bounce on SPY and also XLE (energy ETF). If you are trading a biotech stock, time it with a bounce in IBB, a consumer staple with XLP, etc. This way you have not only the dip buyers on the stock itself, but also dip buyers in the stock's sector and in the overall market as well.

Let me know if ya have any questions!

Chris

Stocks I'm watching tomorrow, 6/9/15

Hey y'all just a quick list tonight! Gonna be focusing only on AXN, PBMD and SSYS tomorrow. Despite all the awesome opportunities last night they all pretty much crapped themselves and I just sat here staring at my screen the whole day, lol. I did take a swing in SSYS and a flat day trade on it but I'm holding SSYS in my swing acct. Also I updated /r/1krobinhoodproject with a new swing in REN and I may add HK to it also as energy and mining seems to be finding some footing.

Hope everyone had a nice day!

Currency question

So let me see if this is correct:

f interest rates go up, a currency should weaken against other currencies. So if the fed raises interest rates on the US dollar the euro should strengthen. Following on this, if the dollar weakens against an un-hedged ETF holding euro denominated assets, that ETF should appreciate.

Am I right or wrong in my assumptions? Thanks in advance.
