New Analysis Website!
Hey Guys,
I found this new stock market analysis website, I plan on uploading a 2-page letter every week, summarizing the week and looking forward. I will be releasing my first letter tonight and I would appreciate it if you would subscribe to the newsletter and tell me what you think of my first post.
My Qualifications: While I may be young, I have a lot of experience in the market, watching closely every day, and even investing a good amount of money. I started this newsletter for recreational purposes, but I would love for it to grow. I specialize in the trading of crude oil (WTI), however, I follow other aspects of the market and watch them closely. I spend approximately 3 hours a day doing research and analyzing market trends.
My website is HERE
Any comments on the website? Let me know! Also, please tell me what you think of the newsletter once it is up.
Thank You!

Where should I start to learn about the market?
From a young age my grandfather has hounded me about getting involved with investing and learning about the market. His usual sentence is to "study the market relentlessly". My question simply is what is the best way to go about doing this. You can basically consider me completely in the dark when it comes to the market and investing. I understand the basics like interest rates and the differences between stock, bonds, and mutual funds, but anything beyond that is a unknown to me. Would you recommend buying the usual "...For Dummies" books or are there other things that you found work better. Would love to start of with building a good foundation of fundamental understanding. Any info is greatly appreciated! Thanks guys.

The dreaded 3:45pm - 4:00pm in the stock market
I noticed several times for several stocks a massive dumping and lowering of price in the last 15 min of trade. I know it's a momentum tactic to sell a stock at the end of the day if it trends downwards, but occasionally I get to see this massive decline even for stocks that traded during the day upward. Do you have any insight into this phenomenon and if it is possible to discern situations when it is likely to happen?
Last time I got burned was with a stock on its last cum dividend day: the price was a bit high, it looked like it would get higher, and I bought around 3:00pm. And then the massive dumping began at 3:45pm and I was mesmerized as to why people would dump it in the last 15 min when they would have a chance to reap the dividend.

Bitgold makes the list of Forbes top 20 startups to watch in 2016 and is the only public company on the list
BitGold is a Canadian company on the TSXV exchange offering international savings and payments services which allow people and businesses to send payments and hold savings with physical gold. Its headquarters are in Toronto, Canada. They IPO'd this year at 90c and are now trading at $4 a share after rising as high as $8. They are venture funded by Soros Brothers and have $30m in cash and assets with no debt.
In an all stock deal shortly after launch they bought Goldmoney which stores over $1.5bn in physical gold for customers. This business was not technologically developed at all and Bitgold are updating with a money transfer and payments technology to leverage the existing storage business.
Essentially, you can buy or sell Gold at spot + 1% or spend it with a debit card or transfer it between people. Because Gold is used at the base currency there are no exchange fees for transfers.
As a real world example of the savings from having no fees sending EUR1500 costs CAD$2,390 with Paypal, but only CAD$2,300 through Bitgold.

Simulated trade on $KBIO?
Hey everyone,
I'll keep it short. I paper trade for the moment. Newbie. I did something I wouldn't do in reality and shorted going into the end of December just to see what would have happened. It's simulated, so I'm not sure what would have happened if it were an actual trade.
As I understand it, it was very difficult to trade the stock recently, so again, this simulation was unrealistic. However, I am curios as to what would have actually happened to my position/money once the the trading of the stock was halted, as it was when Shkreli was arrested.
Thanks for any tips or info.

Space X just landed one of their rockets after reentry from space. Google has a large investment in Space X and has purchased a high altitude, solar power drone company. My "bearish" case for the markets going into the New Year 2016...
here are just a couple of things that i will be watching that imho might pose a threat to the bull market as we head into this 2016 presidential election year ...
-
if we end negative for the full year here it would be the first time the markets end down in a pre-election year since 1939 (which was the 7th year of fdr's presidency and second pre-election according to stock trader's almanac) ... the markets were down double digits the following two years
-
2016 will officially be the 7th year of the bull market (look up "7-year bull cycle" for more.....................)
-
this current month of december (which is historically one of the market's best months of the entire year) is down -3.60% thus far (if we're using cash spx to gauge the overall markets) as of the 12/18/15 close ... albeit we still have 2 more weeks in this trading year left to make back much of those losses, but thus far its not looking too hot
-
as of the 12/18/15 close the market (spx) is down -2.59% for the full year ... excluding that flat/down (-$0.04) year in 2011, we haven't registered a solid "down" year in the spx since 2008
-
the $djta (dow transportation index) is already in bear market territory -20%+ from its highs last made in nov. 2014
-
we had a failed scr (santa claus rally) in 2014 ... the first since 2008 ... last year's santa claus rally ended down -2.96% in those 7 trading days (last 5 trading days in 2014 and first 2 trading days in 2015) which is actually not too terribly surprising that we're having this down year in 2015 (so far) ...
-
commodities like crude oil has fallen nearly -70% since last summer ... and is hitting fresh cycle lows this month ... even brent crude is hitting lows not seen since the early 2000's ...
-
there is also this to consider (courtesy of stock trader's almanac)-
Why 2016 could be a lousy year for the market:
Prior to President Obama, there have been six previous presidents that served an eighth year in office since 1901; Presidents Wilson (1920), Roosevelt (1940), Eisenhower (1960), Reagan (1988), Clinton (2000) and G.W. Bush (2008). President McKinley was elected to a second term, but was assassinated in his fifth year in office. Eighth years are also presidential election years. In the following chart the one-year seasonal pattern for eighth years is compared to all presidential election years.
Eighth years of presidential terms represent the worst of election years since 1920. In eighth years DJIA has suffered an average decline of –13.9%. Out of these six full years, only 1988 was positive. As a result, eighth years have vastly differed from the typical election-year pattern.
-
we will have to wait and see just how this year's "scr" (santa claus rally) will do, again its the final 5 trading days of this year followed by the first 2 trading days of the new year ...
-
there is also something called "ffd" (first five days) where we gauge the first 5 trading days of the new year
-
and there is the "january barometer" where we gauge the full month of jan.
-
although not nearly as important as those others i posted in the above -- but its also of noteworthy to see how the final trading day of 2015 (dec. 31st) and the first trading day of the new year (jan. 4th) do as well
-
if all of these somehow go on to end negative (bearish), that could be a very troubling imho for things to come in the market in 2016 and beyond ... we will just have to wait and see ... in other words santa better as heck show up and soon or else ............
hold onto your seats i guess eh ...
if there is anything else out there please do share it in here ... but this is just some things i will be monitoring as we close out the books in 2015 and open a new one in 2016 ... glta and very merry x-mas and a happy new year 2016 to y'alls on this sub

Advice on researching stocks?
Invested in the stock market the first time in my life and made 400 on a 1000 investment. So far, I just look for stocks with a lot of long term success, trading low right now, maybe half what they were trading for last year. Good or bad strategy? Take in mind I'm really new to this, about all I'm doing is scrolling Etrade 5 year graphs and reading company updates and projections.

Martin Shkreli arrested on fraud charges - Can't say we didn't see that coming...
Welp, remember 20 days ago when I posted this warning to stay away from KBIO?
I'm not usually one to toot my own horn but some people in that thread called me an idiot and said I don't know what I'm talking about ... this was SO fucking obvious to me. Though of course the FBI can't charge him with fraud related to the KBIO case yet so they arrest him on something else, you can be 100% certain they are investigating it and it will be halted for a long time. He is a criminal and whether he was manipulating KBIO or not, his shady behavior in that situation was enough to tell me to stay far away cause he obviously has no morals.
Anyway, here's the link: http://ift.tt/1k4Ic4s

Shkreli, CEO Reviled for Drug Price Gouging, Arrested on Securities Fraud Charges
Retrophin sued Shkreli in August for misuse of company funds, claiming he engineered numerous transactions between investors in MSMB and the biotechnology firm. Similar allegations are laid out in the company's regulatory filings.
The company alleged in a complaint filed in Manhattan federal court that, through a disastrous trade with Merrill Lynch in 2011, Shkreli cost MSMB more than $7 million, leaving it virtually bankrupt.

Finding Comparables for Avon Products Inc.
I've already done a DCF for Avon, but now I want to do some relative valuation. I'm going to do both a sector and market regression, so to do the sector regression I need to have a good list of comparables. Currently my list includes Revlon, Estee Lauder, Elizabeth Arden, Coty Inc, Inter Perfums Inc and P&G. This is for a class so it's recommended when we do the regression that we have at least 10 companies. I was going to use Unilever but I can't seem to find any quarterly data on them (and since they aren't an American company they don't have the same filing requirements with the SEC). It's hard finding companies for Avon I feel because a lot of the cosmetic companies are privately owned or are just a small branch of a company. Can you help me r/stockmarket?

How to profit from the Dow/Dupont merger?
How do you work these stocks considering to potential of a giant merger? Obviously, there will be a long drawn out regulatory investigation. Do you wait until that is through? What is expected to happen to their stock prices in the meantime?
What if you want to look at it now... There are two "predictions," either you think it will go through or you think it won't. What's the play if you think it is going to go through? Or how do you make a move if you think that it will NOT go through?
Seems like there is a ton of potential here, along with the obvious uncertainty and associated risks. Just wondering what your thoughts are...

Buy Oil & Natural Gas week of 12/14
I trade with several commodity traders and we are all in agreement that $35 - $34.80 is the bottom. I would consider some buying of USO & UNG. Look for some of the beaten down oil stocks. For the reward natural gas stocks down 70% last 6 months.
Production has been falling the last 2 months and rigs or down over half from 2014. We are at the bottom.

Empty vs Filled Candles? What do they mean?
On (StockCharts.com)[http://ift.tt/yWMeuE] you'll see candlesticks with 4 kinds of bars: solid red, empty red, solid black, and empty black. I know that black means "up day" and red means "down day", but what does solid/empty indicate? Anyone know?
PS you may have to check out several different stock charts to get to an example of this; some (eg $INDU) only show solid red and empty black.

GBSN Approves 60:1 Reverse Split - Squeeze Potential
This means the float is now down from 190m shares to only 3.2m shares (extremely low). There will be some number of people who don't realize this is a reverse split and think the stock is gapping up 6,000% and just buy blindly. The split is effective at the end of today (5pm EST) which means we will see the gap on Monday. With only 3.2m shares in the float it won't take many people to squeeze this thing like AEZS, KBIO, AQXP etc.
Just a heads up - I'll be watching closely for a long if it gets squeezey :)
EDIT: Someone just brought to my attention (per the PR) this also means that more series C warrants will be exercisable for the next 25 trading days so the stock will ultimately be diluted again. IMO this provides a great short opportunity AND a great long opportunity. There will be obvious selling from the warrant exercises (which is what dropped this from $2.50 to $0.05 in the first place), but the float is also much lower again which means it has more potential to squeeze. Anyway, just worth watching. No real bias right now since it can make huge moves either way. Let's see what Monday brings.

How will US and EU stock markets react to an increase in interest rates?
Opinions are differing on this. It seems that stock markets generally will see an increase in interest rates as positive news as it indicates the Fed believes the economy is strong enough to tighten monetary policy. It also ought to increase bank margins between loans and deposits.
However naturally, increasing rates means increasing value of debt, making it more expensive for companies to borrow.
How do we think markets would take the news?

Anyone noticed certain people causing hype?
Hey people,
Has anyone noticed the market move when a particular person tweets or updates their status on a social media site? I've heard of it, but haven't seen it myself. I'm not talking about news channels tweeting or the likes, of course. I mean traders, investors or entrepreneurs. For example, if Warren Buffet was to tweet about a certain stock (does he even have twitter?) would the stock move in regards to his opinion?
Thanks!

I do not know how to invest in the banks that would benefit from the Fed hike, and would love any feedback to help me with this investment. Thank you for reading!

What to expect when Fed Raises Rates this Month
Here is the Market Radar Video for Tuesday and Wednesday
The market is repeating a pattern that it traded in early November. Everything down to the moving averages are similar. Short term signals are mixed and so are longer term. Caution on overall direction but You have to be impressed with resilience of the markets.
Fed Rate hike is right around the corner and I would put a 90% probability of that happening this month... So what happen then? Lets look back at the last Fed Rate Hike
The last time the Federal Reserve raised rates was in June 2006, and there have been three times since 1994 that the markets have faced a rate hike after a lull like the U.S. is seeing now.
Here's what happened those three times, according to Kensho,a market analytics tool. Both the materials sector and the industrials sector traded positive 100 percent of the time in the three months leading up to the hikes, with average returns of 11.64 percent and 9.95 percent, respectively. The worst performing sectors during that time were consumer staples and utilities stocks, both with average returns down about 1 percent.
Well we know the Basic Material Sector has not kept true to form as it is the worst performer over the last 3 months leading up until this action
I feel the data is a little misleading and we should not take it for face value.
In the past six rate-hike cycles dating to 1983, the Standard & Poor’s 500 stock index declined on the day of the Fed’s first rate increase three times, or 50% of the time. The biggest Day 1 loss was in February 1994, when the benchmark stock index cratered 2.3%, according to data from Birinyi Associates. In contrast, stocks jumped 2.3% after the first rate hike in January 1987 and 1.6% following the initial increase in June 1999.
Here are some interesting charts to look at but when it comes down to it for me as a trader it might be just better to lighten the load and not take any big bets either way. But my gut is telling me have some spy puts for protection if you are holding long into the decision.
I love statistics as much as the next person, but this market is at a place and time where we cannot really compare it to past events, we are in uncharted territory as the Fed as taken over the steering wheel and the market is not driving on its own any more.
If the Fed Rate Hike causes the markets to go into a tail spin it will only be a matter of time before they announce another round of stimulus
See you tomorrow in the markets..The Futures are trading down -9.00 it is not looking to good as we start off the overnight session

APRI-Apricus Biosciences what am I missing?
I am a PharmD that works in industry (not this company) so I like to invest in the sector as I know it personally better than other sectors.
What really got me about APRI is their product Vitaros. It is a topical ED cream that is approved in many European countries and sold via partnership. As well this product uses a proprietary inactive ingredient that increases permeability of the product to increase absorption making a topical route possible. Their direct competitors for this product are Caverject ( a injection device into the penis) or Muse (a urethral suppository you have to insert an inch or so in). Both products as a pharmacist make me cringe and I can see it being a barrier that this over comes.
Also in their pipeline is the first product and possibly only treatment for Raynaud's phenomenon. It's basically the same thing as Vitaros where the drug permeability product allows the active ingredient to be absorbed through the skin of the hands and feet to increase blood flow.
The problem is currently they are low on cash but have massively expanded Vitaros markets through partnership with Takeda, Sandoz, Ferring and Amgen. The product should be launched in the US and Latin America soon and they will be getting royalties on it.
I can see them starting to really pull in a steady stream of income by the middle of 2016 that will grow into 2017 on this product alone then add in if they get approval on their pipeline products and they look strong if they can maintain their Financials. They look well to be in a position to bring one of the first novel SERMs to market for low testosterone in males. Won't likely be the first but the first looks like it won't be novel rather an isomer of a current generic drug.
So anyone else looking at them? Have other thoughts or concerns as they appear rather undervalued to me so I must be missing something.

Morgans Hotel Group (MHGC): >100% upside from current prices
Morgans owns two related but distinct businesses. Firstly, they own, operate and manage three hotels in Manhattan, Miami and San Francisco. Secondly they run an asset-light hotel management business, which also acts as a licensor of its Morgans, Delano, Mondrian and Hudson boutique brands.
MHGC is currently trading at around $3.20/share. I believe MHGC will be worth $7.73 within the next year, which represents a 134% return from current prices and as such offers a very compelling risk/reward opportunity.
The Morgans board has been trying to effect a transaction for nearly 3 years but has failed for 2 reasons. Firstly, the slightly awkward makeup of the company means that there are few single buyers who will be interested in both parts of the company, making a sale of the company relatively more difficult to negotiate. However, more important is the fact that the board has been divided over what the best course of action should be. There is also the overhang of the preferred shares owned by Ron Burkle’s Yucaipa, which I will elaborate on later. As a result, both management and the board have lost credibility with the market, and the stock price has plummeted by over 50% ytd.
I value the Hudson in Manhattan and Delano South Beach properties at around $600m together. The Hudson is located near Columbus Circle in a very valuable location. NOI for the Hudson was around $16m for 2014 and NOI for The Delano was around $15m. I used a cap rate of ~5% and $/key of around $400,000 to value the Hudson and a cap rate of ~6.25% and $/key of 1m for the Delano. Comps I used for the Hudson include the acquisition of the Sofitel NYC by Keck Seng Investments, the acquisition of the Times Square Hotel by the Qatar Group and the acquisition of the Palce Hotel by the Lotte Group. Comps for the Delano included the sales of the SLS South Beach and the James Royal Palm hotel.
Currently the hotel management segment of the company is earning around $15m-16m run-rate 2015. Including fees from owned hotels, sales would come to around $23m-25m. If we assume a 37% SGA haircut on sales (consistent with comps: Marriott, Choice Hotels and Starwood), EBITDA should be around $15m. The driver of value for this business is the strength of its brands; MHGC has a great track record of managing hotels: every single hotel managed by MHGC is rated 4 stars or higher on Tripadvisor and sales at thehotel at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas increased by 30% and jumped by over 100 spots on Tripadvisor after rebranding to Delano Mandalay Bay last year. MHGC’s brand equity and character provides clear differentiation from competitors. There is also a lot of potential for growth (6 signed contracts in the pipeline and each contract is material to MHGC given that EBITDA is only currently around $15m).
The main weakness of the business is that it lacks the scale of chain like Kimpton (which had 70 hotels in its network when it was sold to Intercontinental Hotels), and thus has a loyalty scheme that isn’t as extensive as its rivals. Asset light hotel management businesses generally trade at between 12x and 17x EV/EBITDA multiples. As such I think a 15x EBITDA multiple is conservative here, giving us a value of around $225m for the business.
Currently, total liabilities are comprised of $600m worth of debt, which includes a $400m non-recourse Hudson/Delano mortgage loan as well as the $94m lease for the Clift hotel in San Francisco. In addition, Ron Burkle’s Yucaipa owns $75m worth of preferred shares, and the company owes Yucaipa $50m of accrued preferred dividends. Yucaipa also owns warrants to purchase 12,500,000 shares of Morgans at $6.00, which is expiring in a year. Assuming a target price of $7.60, the warrants will be worth $19.2m.
Taking into account the property assets worth $600m, the hotel management company valued at $225m, and assuming a haircut of 90% on the NOLs worth $380m which is $38m (back of the envelope I admit, but I think it is conservative) and subtracting the net debt of $550m minus the lease of around $94m, preferred shares of $75m, accrued dividends of $50m and warrants worth $13m, the equity is worth $239m, which is around $7.73/share.
On September of 2015, a few weeks ago, Rambleside Holdings, an investment firm specializing in real estate assets and securities and one of the largest shareholders of the company offered to buy the Hudson and Delano for $507m, which is lower than our valuation for the 2 hotels but still higher than the value implied by current market prices. I believe this puts a floor on the value of the hotel properties at $507m.
The dividend yield on Burkle’s preferred dividends will increase to 20% from 10%, thus there is an incentive for the company to redeem the shares before this happens. Currently the firm has around $50m in cash. To redeem the shares, the company will need to raise capital, most likely by selling its two hotel properties.
The key risk to the thesis is the role of Ron Burkle in this whole process. As the owner of the firm’s preferred shares, his interests may not be aligned with the common shareholders. Moreover, his ownership of the preferred shares gives him certain consent rights over asset sales as well as potential acquisition of MHGC by a third party, and so he has significant influence over the value of the company. It is possible for him acquire the firm's hotel assets at an artificially low price. Theoretically he can refuse consent to the sale of the properties to a third party, essentially becoming the only viable buyer. In this worst case scenario, the firm will be a price taker, since they will be forced to sell the assets at Burkle's price.
Catalysts:
- Announcement of new CEO
- Sale of hotel properties (1 year time frame)
- Redemption of preferred shares
- Continued growth of hotel management segment
Thoughts?

sentiChina Coefficient is open to subscription
Hi Trader,
Weibo is the Chinese version of twitter, people tends to express their feeling and sentiment there. I spent 10 months on researching how / what / which data to collect and analyze from weibo and the correlation to China stock market. That is sentiChina Coefficient - a sentiment indicator of China stock market. There are two parts of it : daily and realtime. Now the daily coefficient is open to subscription. The first 100 subscribers could subscribe to the daily coefficient (1/1/2012 to yesterday) at USD 9.99 per month. You could have a look of the data samples here :

Do you think TSE: VFV is a good ETF to invest in for 10 years or more?
Hello everyone, I am a Canadian investor that is looking to drop a few thousand (~5k) on an ETF (VFV on the TSE). I think VFV is a good investment, as it has returned approximately 100% in the last 3 years. I am thinking of holding this stock for at least 10 years. (I am new to investing, and while I wish I could just invest in an index fund and let the money sit for the rest of my life and grow at 10%/yr, it seems that index funds do not last for 65+ years. So, I think 10 years is a reasonable amount of time.) Would you guys say this is a safe investment? Additional information - The average 1 year return on this ETF is 21.62% (this seems extremely high to me, so I presume that its price will rise about 10% per year over the span of 10 years). While I think a company like KO or Johnson and Johnson might be a good investment, since they are sold only in US markets, I think the exchange rate (I pay $1.40 CAD for $1.00 US) is too high right now.

Next week's Market is set up to move Higher here is why
November 2015 New Watchlist for next week has been updated. It's a good one. daytraderockstar post posted by daytraderockstar Nov 27, 2015 6:38 pm
This week's watch list continues with the great HPS charts. November is about to end and we will begin the most bullish month of the year historically. The S&P has been in a tight consolidation for the past 7 days. This sets us up for a move next week. We have a lot of reasons to believe this market is heading higher and to all time new highs. Lets look at the Pro's and Con's
Consolidation last 7 days
PRO'S
The Market has taken everything that has been through at it on the negative side and continues to hold together.
-
Recent under performing earning season
-
Recent French Terror Attacks
-
Recent Russian Bomber being shot down by Turkey and subsequent sanctions by Russia and now Russia deploying a defence missile system on the boarder of Syria well within range of Turkey.
-
We are entering historically the best month of the year and one more interesting stat is that after the market had basically underperformed for the year the following year has had huge upside.
Here are some charts
These are considered Pro's just because the market has seemed to have priced in these events and held strong.
As you know I follow a few important oscillator and those signals has been spot on when predicting a market move be it up or down. So ask yourself is there more going on here then meets the eye.
CON'S
Some of our important oscillators are approaching overbought levels (Daily Stochastics)
The 60 Min time frame is starting to roll over but this is actually showing up as a Positive Price Divergence sideway price action as the momentum drops
The potential for for market moving news is at its greatest level.
I still haven't pull the trigger on Hedges I hope that doesn't come back and bite me on Monday, But I have my finger on the trigger. Looking at Spy (Puts)
Overall the market looks great, I think there is a great chance of taking out all time highs soon, but we most not be over confident and stick to a well defined plan and that's what we have for next week.
Here is the HPS watchlist for Members
I been focused on Options a lot lately but as you can see you can get a great return from a very small position with very little downside risk

My .02 Warning: STAY AWAY from KBIO
Just a word of warning from someone who's done this a while: don't get sucked into KBIO thinking you're gonna become a millionaire. Yes you can make money, yes it will keep going up, but at this point it is pure price manipulation by Shkreli and his fund buddies and imo it's only a matter of time til the sec halts it to investigate. It could be halted for months, and when they accuse Shkreli of manipulation the stock will open as a penny stock.
Anyway, not trying to debate or start arguments. Trade it if you want, but whatever you put in it, be willing to lose 100% and have it locked away for months, possibly forever if it gets halted and/or delisted. And if you somehow find shares to short and you short it ... Well, Godspeed lol

What is a Good Investment for the Long Term (65+ Years) for a Canadian?
Hello everyone, I am a Canadian Ben Graham type investor still in my teens that is looking to spend $10,000.00 on a good investment for the long term (65+ years). I recently noticed that ATCO Ltd. is around $35 a share, down 25% for the whole of 2015 (I thought it might be undervalued). However, due to oil prices dropping, I think that it is a reasonable drop in the stock price. So, I am not sure if that is the best value stock(s) to invest in right now. Do you guys think it would be profitable to invest in ATCO right now? If not, does anyone know of any undervalued stocks for the long term, or a strong and stable index fund (or any other intelligent investment)?
