I invest in mostly tech stocks and my portfolio has followed or beaten the indexes (DJI, NASDAQ and S&P). As i continue to learn and get deeper into the investment game I have learned about 3X ETFs (e.g. TQQQ).
If I like most of the stocks in TQQQ, why would I not invest my money there instead of the stocks themselves?
Are there any potential "gotchas" when investing in these ETFs?
Hey StockMarket,
I hope that my 2 picks have provided some value. I will add more after the close on Monday.
https://tickerpicker.net/blog/category/stocks-picks-week-of-4-30/
What a week as tech earnings picked up in earnest. Two broad observations this week: 1) tech scares from last week seems to be receding. 2) Big tech is ramping capex. However, tech still lagged the broader market this week due to several puts and takes.
With this community's feedback, I've included more hard numbers in this week's column. I wish to go into more details, but the news flow was torrential, and as an stock picker, I've been swamped by my day job. Anyways, I hope to continuously improve this weekly commentary with Reddit's help, so all feedback are welcome! Thanks!

Anyone have any advice on these for the next week? Anyone trading these companies between last week and this upcoming week?
I bought some of each of these companies on Friday. They didn’t do what i thought they were going to do by market close Friday. I still held on to them.
Curious if anyone has any insight on them and if it was or wasn’t a good idea to hold them over the weekend. Thoughts?
Which share you would buy as a long-term investment?
It seems interesting. It makes money by making satellites, taking earth imagery, geospatial data and analytics(If you want a better idea, check out: https://youtu.be/hiRBQxHrxNw ). It has alot of potential growth this year as it's acquired alot of contracts with multiple places like the Canadian government and NASA.
Is it worth investing into? Does it have potential in the future as space gets more commercialized?
I was wondering if trading 212 was a good platform to use. I have been playing with fake money and trying to learn as much as possible before i use real money. I talk about what i do alot to my friends just in case they know more and could give me useful information. He mentioned that the stock could be fake and you can make a lot of money using the fake money on trading 212. thus leading you to believe you are companent enough to handle real money. once you deposit real money and start trading you can get fucked over by this company. I just wanna know if trading 212 is a good platform and it's not a "scam-ish" or shady company. I'm relatively new to this and i would love any advice given. Thank you all so much !
This is a list of the top 20 companies that experienced the largest change in insider shares in the last seven (7) days. The SEC defines an insider as any officer, director or 10% shareholder. It is not illegal for these people to buy or sell their own shares. In fact, since most of them get paid in stock options, it is expected. However, it is illegal for them to trade on inside information that has not been made public. So for example if there are drug trial results that are bad and not public, insiders cannot dump shares. That said, many people have observed that insiders - in general - seem to have a good track record at timing their purchases.

I’m new to this, does anyone here do intraday trading? If so, what are your setups? I have ichimoku, MACD, & RSI. If price action is above the conversion line, I buy. If price action is below the conversion line, I sell. What are your strategy for intraday trading?
I’ve noticed they have been hovering around $14 since the big dip on the 24th. I’m curious if anyone else feels like they bottomed out, or if another dip seems likely?
The American adhesives manufacturing company has had a great start to 2018 with both revenue and adjusted EBITDA up 40%. Excluding the acquisition of Royal Adhesives last year the revenues were still up 11% (7% on constant currency basis).
The company said in its recent Q1 earnings report that it expected volume increases and margin enhancements to keep the company on track to deliver EBITDA of $600 million in 2020.
With a market cap of just $2.6 billion the company looks cheap to me.

Some bearish investors are concerned that if the stock market continues to fall (S&P 500), it will make a "death cross". This is traditionally seen as a big bearish sign for the stock market.
History proves otherwise. It is more often a bullish sign than a bearish sign

If we are purchasing stocks of 1000 dollars ,charge may be different. If we purchase shares of 100 dollars ,charge may be different. I want to know the least possible charge in your country for purchasing a share to day and selling it today ( it may be for 100 dollars or 10 dollars )
For those who don’t mind a bit of China risk iQiyi (IQ), China’s most popular video platform, reported remarkable growth with revenue up 57% at $777 million for the first quarter with strong growth across the board. Guidance for Q2 was for revenues to hit a record range between $924 million to $963.1 million. The company also announced a partnership with Chinese online retail juggernaut JD.com to link membership programs, allowing paying users of one platform's membership program to enjoy the perks of the other's premium features. With rapid growth and the stock valued at just over 3 times Q2 annualised revenues it looks very cheap.

Are the future contracts tradings really a good indicator of what to expect when the market opens the next day?

The guy running the show at KemPharm is a well-known chemist who used to be the head of Shire. His specialty is prodrugs and he has an incredibly successful one under his belt: He was the inventor of Vyvanse.
His new company has a Hydrocodone product called Adapaz. As opioid regulations tighten, it seems like an abuse-resistant product will increase in demand.
Thoughts?
Opinions ladies and gents ?
I'm looking for a software to backtest intraday strategies, so I'd need many years of historical data, with 1 hour or smaller bars. I don't know about programming, so I'd need something simple.
I have always used just spreadsheets to backtest strategies. A website to download historical intraday data would actually be even better (one price per hour would be already fine).
Thanks in advance.

Investing in commodities or equities of commodity producers is not for the fainthearted. Even the most sound investment thesis can be derailed by any number of factors, be it geopolitics, innovation, tax or subsidy reform, cartel-like behaviour, or simply futures markets positioning. Particularly in times of high levels of uncertainty, extreme investor positioning either long or short, or after a sustained move higher or lower in the price of the commodity, investors can be exposed to very high levels of risk. It is at such times that investing in companies that form part of the commodity’s supply chain can be a superior expression of one’s view as opposed to taking a direct exposure in the commodity or its producers.
We think that given the sustained move higher in oil, that has clearly wrong footed many, extreme positioning on the long side in futures markets and impressive revival in US shale oil production, one may be able to better express a medium-term bullish view on oil prices by investing in companies that service the oil and gas industry. Specifically, we consider, at this stage, being long equities of companies with products and services targeted towards oil and gas pipeline infrastructure to represent a more balanced risk-reward trade than simply being long oil or a generic energy ETF.

What is on everyone's radar for today's trading day ahead here at r/StockMarket?
I have a few calls thats expire by 4/27. Does that mean I have until midnight on Friday to sell? or do I have to sell before its Friday?
What are some tutorials or if u all have suggestions on how to know if something good or bad has happened within a comapny through the financial supplement. I'm struggling to read through one. (I'm trying to focus on Citigroup's latest one.
I have been hanging for a few months waiting to see how low it would go, they just doubled their figures and have major plans to increase sales with new warehousing.
Thoughts?
I noticed the technical analysis shows the stock market bearish in the short term. Should I take positions for a bearish market in the short term or just buy and hold for now?
Hey all, I am thinking that UAVS is going to rise to about 3.70 to 3.76. I was wondering if you guys thought the same or if you had any other good stocks that are good to day trade or may go up tomorrow.
Thanks!
I had a fairly huge long-term capital gain this year due to an M&A. The tax hit is going to be pretty huge, because this places me quite a bit over the 20% bracket.
I'm thinking if I do some strategic tax loss harvesting this year, I can reduce my upfront (and overall) tax bill.
Basically, I was thinking I could try to invest the money into a diverse basket of individual stocks -- I'm thinking stuff that could go big either way up or down. Whenever any incurs a significant loss I'll sell to lock in the loss and move into something else. Stocks that have significant gains I'll keep for at least a year. I'm hoping by doing this my overall average stock market gains for 2018 will roughly keep up with the market, while keeping gains unrealized and losses realized. Come 2019 I'll be comfortably back within the 15% bracket.
Any problems with this idea?
Do you guys have recommendations for stocks that could go big in either direction this year? I've already got a bunch of tech and Chinese investments that I think fit the bill. I'm hesitant with clinical trial biotech/penny stock stuff, since the risk skew is so intense.
It looks like the market is getting close to re-testing the 200 day moving average. If we break (a big if) there is a chance the market has a big sell off. And when the market panics, you can often buy great companies on sale. You can wait until the selloff to start your research you have to know the companies today, IMO, and then be ready to start buying when they reach a level you think is a steal.
So what companies are you looking to buy if we a get a big market sell off. I like a mish-mash of tech and basic materials here. Would love to get $shop, $splk, $ctrip and some other chinese internet names lower. $cck is interesting as is the whole packaging sector and I like Glencore and a lot of other metals. I'm also a fan of south africa bc of ramaphosa
