First metric you use to select a good company to invest in

Hello all, I am ready to start buying into the stock market! My brief history of investments include crypto and buying into my own company stock through the ESPP. Both paid off very well but both were very speculative and risky.

To prep myself for investing in the stock market I read the intelligent investor. Benjamin Graham talks about a lot of different metrics such as to identify companies that are undervalued. I know there are caveats to each one but I was curious what others use as their number one metric to first start looking into (not necessarily buying) a companies stock?

P/E? market value vs book value? net income? Worst performance over the past year or so (which would identify the company being potentially undervalued by a illogical market reaction)?

In my opinion it seems like looking at book value vs market value makes the most sense seeing that it is accounting for a companies total assets and companies selling for less than their book value should hypothetically be undervalued. What are the thoughts of more experienced investors?

Opinions on Spotify IPO this Tuesday...

As with title, what are some peoples opinions on how Spotify's IPO is going to go on Tuesday the 2nd, and then beyond?

A last week article I read stated they're to post on Tuesday, being privately traded earlier this year at 48.93 to 132.50, but they may post publicly as high as 220. From what it feels like, this might be the biggest tech IPO I've seen since FB's, to which they posted at if I remember correctly at like 140 but it dropped all the way down to 17 where I bought it at. Don't think Spotify's IPO is going to be anything like this.

What are your guy's thoughts on it though?

I created a new algorithm for my stocks, opinions ?

It's basically just a service that runs on my server and it acts if Trump tweets, written in Java.

 TweetListener sub = new TweetListener("realDonaldTrump"); sub.listen(); listener.on("newTweet", tweet -> { if(tweet.message.contains("I'm very smart person")) { sellAll(); } if(tweet.message.contains("great again")) { sellAll(); Ticker ticker = TickerService.find("DOW"); ticker.sellShort(); } if(tweet.message.contains("putin")) { Ticker ticker = TickerService.find("gazprom"); if(ticker != null) { ticker.buy(); } } // obligatory daily NFLX short no matter what Trump tweets Ticker ticker = TickerService.find("NFLX"); if(ticker != null) { ticker.sellShort(); } }); public void sellAll() { Portfolio.stocks.forEach(stock -> { stock.sell(); }); }

Opinions ?

First A Dream by Jim Clayton: Thoughts and Notes (Buffett recommended book, was catalyst for BRK acquiring Clayton Homes)

Hi all, I'm new here. Please forgive me if this isn't the right subreddit to post this.

If anyone of you read Buffett's 2017 letter to shareholders, you'll pick up on the fact that Clayton Homes' market share has increased to an amazing 49%, up from 13% when Berkshire acquired the company in 2003. Its truly an amazing story.

I finally had an opportunity to read "First a Dream" by Jim Clayton. According to Buffett, reading this book triggered his offer to acquire Clayton Homes.

If anyone is interested, I have jotted down my thoughts as well as many quotes / excerpts that I found valuable:

If you want to discuss, I'd be happy to be do it here! Thanks all.

US v. AT&T: “IT’S SO TRANSPARENTLY RIDICULOUS”: WALL STREET GROANS AS ITS M&A FUTURE HANGS ON TRUMP’S SHAM AT&T TRIAL

Here is a short exerpt:

At stake is not only AT&T’s still-pending $85 billion acquisition of Time Warner but also, as many on Wall Street see it, the future of the M&A business itself. This is serious, since there is no higher margin business in finance. “The concept that AT&T is going to use its distribution to, in any way, favor its own content, which itself needs to be on every other distribution channel, is preposterous,” says one veteran M&A banker.

Why are people so quick to recommend against waiting to invest at the time of the next bear market/large dip/recession/correction?

I submitted this at personalfinance and got torn apart by people some of which didn't even bother to read the post. Some people made good points and I agree that what I'm saying doesn't always apply. I am not saying "don't invest now", if you want to, go for it. I'm simply writing what I think is a good strategy to make better gains.

All over the internet and especially in places like /r/investing etc people repeat the term: "Time in the market beats timing the market", "nobody can predict the market", etc etc. I'm not saying these views are necessarily wrong. But they aren't right either. If I'm wrong, feel free to explain to me but I just don't see it.

I've made a crappy table on MS paint to show my point: https://i.imgur.com/qOrKolQ.png

Now I'm making a couple of assumptions here which follow:

  1. Most importantly, I'm referring to short/medium term investment into a well diversified index fund. (Here I use the SP500 index). Of course, if you leave your money in the market for 20, 30 or 40 years, as in retirement accounts, historical data shows you would almost certainly have a positive ROI. So this doesn't apply to investment over a lifetime.

  2. The objective of investing is to buy securities low, get a positive ROI and sell higher than you bought, to receive a profit. I think its safe to say this is what almost everyone is after.

  3. Nobody can know the highest point of a peak or lower point of a dip, however I am referring to purchasing once it is clear that the market is dropping, not specifically at the lowest point of the dip; and selling when the market has recovered overall, not right before the next dip. For most of my examples I use a 5 year period.

  4. When I say words such as "recession" I am not using the terms per textbook definition. I understand a recession has specific characteristics which classify it as such; however I use the word as most people in the world use it - a time when the market drops, confidence is low, companies fail, people lose their job etc. Let's not get terribly technical.

  5. That the market will always recover and continue to go higher as time goes on. This is the concept the entire retirement investment concept is based on. so when we buy at the dip, we suppose the market will recover some time soon.

  6. The market is cyclical and even thought we hope it will continue to rise overall, recessions happen at an almost stupidly easy to predict rate.

  • In scenario 1, we suppose we purchased shares right at the peak of the 2000 bull market. Exactly 5 years later, we happen to need cash and so liquidate at a loss for a return of -16.05%. We bought high in a good market and sold low. Now you could keep your shares and wait until the market turns around; however even if you waited until the peak of the recovered market around July of 2007 (and you'd have to be really lucky to guess that exact point), you would only make a 5% positive ROI, over SEVEN years of ownership.

  • In scenario 2, we purchased shares at the very tip of the "recession" in October 2002 when it was clear to everyone that the market was at a decline. 5 years later, we decide to sell to realize our gains and make a 51.57% ROI. This is 67.62% more than the guy who bought the Dot Com peak in scenario 1; and 46.57% more than even if that guy had waited until the very tip of the 2007 peak who also owned his shares for 2 more years than scenario 2 guy.

  • In scenario 3, we take a more realistic approach as we do not know exactly when the peaks and valleys are. We buy in February 2007 right before the recession because "people predicted 9 of the last 5 recessions" and "time in the market etc". 5 years later we need to liquidate and sell at a loss for a -4.87% ROI.

  • In scenario 4, we kept our cash until the housing bubble burst and the recession was underway. Everyone's freaking out and we purchase in October 2008 because we think its the lowest it will go. Obviously it doesn't, it kept getting lower. however, that is what most likely would happen as nobody knows where the bottom is; but its obviously a recession and it'll have to go up soon. Turns out we were right and a little less than 5 years later we decide to realize our profit and sell for a 41.02% ROI. You made 45.89% more than the guy in scenario 3 simply by waiting one year until the market was obviously at a low and stocks were at price/undervalued.

Now you might be saying: "but Nakuke, if scenario 3 guy had simply waited until today and the crazy bull market of 2017, he would have made a lot of money! Stay long! HODL!" You're right, and we'll address that in the last 2 scenarios.

  • In scenario 5, we buy in November 2006 while the market is still rising, and we're even willing to hold medium-term for over 10 years (12 to be precise). On In March 2018 we decide that the market is too crazy with the tariff business, Amazon regulation etc etc. we decide to sell and take your profit. We made almost double at a 91.26% ROI. Sounds good right? Except it could have been better and almost guaranteed a return if we simply waited 2 years until the market went to crap. This is next.

  • In scenario 6, we decided to save our cash and buy in in the middle of the recession, not even the bottom of it. We stayed almost equally as long as scenario 5 guy, holding for almost 10 years until March 2018 when the market starts going bonkers and we decide to GTFO to secure our profit. We almost quadruple our investment for a 173.06% ROI. We made 81.8% more than scenario 5 guy by simply waiting to buy during the recession (waiting/saving cash for 2 years). We probably were able to invest even more than our scenario 5 self because we had 2 years to save more money in cash before using it to buy shares of the index. There was also no point during the period where the market took a dip large enough to give us a loss, and there was no point where it was very clear that the market would start to decline into the next (inevitable) recession, except maybe 2015; in which case you still would have beat scenario 5 guy if you sold out of fear.

Why I'm writing this:

I am not some sort of investing guru, in fact I started to invest (a small amount) money into the market in January of this year; which was pretty crap luck for me and others who did so. the last 5 years or so have been nothing but growth and rise, and now this year the market's doing weird things nobody understands due to new loss of confidence in the market and unfavorable conditions (tariffs etc) The last 4 recessions took place almost exactly 10 years apart: 1981, 1990, 2001, and 2007/8. If this continues, its reasonable to believe the next recession/dip etc will take place some time this or next year. We may even be "overdue". The price of most stocks, particularly tech and meme stocks (AMZN, NFLX, etc) have risen dramatically since the last recession and I don't think its irrational to say many of them, and the market overall, is overvalued. Buying into the market now is the perfect example of "Buying high" which makes it much more likely you will sell low unless you're ready to wait 10-20 years to make a profit - in which case you may as well just put your money in your 401k/IRA; or simply keep your money - the opportunity cost of waiting 10-20 or more years to even double your investment, at least for me, is too great. Giving up a dollar I can use today to make another dollar to use in 20 years is a waste.

In the past 2 months the value of my investment has dropped around 8% and its not a huge deal as its a small amount of play money (1000 USD); but it made me think and come to this conclusion. Stocks are at an all time high right now. I'm literally buying shares the their most expensive price in history. I'd have to wait a long time for the next all time high to make a relatively small profit. Instead if I hold my cash and wait for the market to drop - which it more than likely will sooner than later as history has shown time and time again, I can almost guarantee myself a profit in a shorter period of time. That is precisely what I have decided to do. I sold my small investment for the 8% loss and put y money back into a high-interest savings account with the rest of my cash. I'll continue to save for 1 or 2 years when I very strongly believe the market will be at a lower point than it is now. Then I'll buy a much larger number of shares low, wait for the recovery, and sell high. It's "timing the market" but it's not exactly rocket science. Just BL,SH. This does NOT apply to my TSP account. I've started to invest in my TSP each month in equal amounts regardless of market performance as I will not use the money until retirement time or at least until 30 years or more from now. Although I COULD make more money by putting in a lump sum during a recession, its easier and more disciplined to simply save the same amount each paycheck - the length of time is so large that it makes the difference in profit pretty small.

If my reasoning is not solid I am very happy to read why. I don't suggest I am absolutely correct. However I hope this can give people a perspective before they spout buzz phrases like "Time in the market beats timing the market", "ALWAYS buy and hold, start now!", "Insert Warren Buffet/Lynch quote here" regardless of whether the market at the time of the question is at an all time high and likely to turn around sooner than later.

Looking for opinions on Spotify IPO

I finally put a stop order on my nflx shares and sold this morning after making just under 3x my initial investment. I was thinking of taking my initial investment and looking at Spotify. I realize I can't get in on the ipo but was wondering what thoughts r/stockmarket had on this if any. My assumption is there will be a lot of volatility early on.

Just as background, NFLX was the first and only individual stock I've ever bought. All other investments are handled through a fiduciary advisor in etf's, index funds etc. This is really just fun money I guess that I did well with and since I do believe streaming will only get bigger and that Spotify is the big player, figured I'd look into it.

DocuSign unveils IPO filing

Last year saw $381.5 million in revenue, up from $250.5 million the year before. Losses for last year were $115.4 million in revenue, down from $122.6 million for 2016.

“We have a history of operating losses and may not achieve or sustain profitability in the future,” the company warned in the requisite “risk factors” section of the prospectus.

The filing reveals that Sigma Partners is the largest shareholder, owning 12.9 percent of the company. Ignition Partners owns 11.7 percent and Frazier Technology Ventures owns 7.2 percent.

Kleiner Perkins also invested and partner Mary Meeker serves on DocuSign’s board, but the firm’s ownership was not high enough to meet the 5 percent threshold for the filing. The same is also true of Scale Venture Partners, with managing partner Rory O’Driscoll serving on the DocuSign board.

Started investing about a month ago. I know people say you should not try to “time the market” but essentially I’m asking, should I time the market?

So I started investing about a month ago. Mainly with robosdvisors that generally follow the market closely. Also with M1 that gives the option of choosing fractional shares and a little more control to the user. So far, in all, I’ve invested about $1,000. I had originally planned to invest about &5,000. All of my portfolios have had losses averaging about -2.5%. I’m not too concerned about the short term loss but am wondering if considering the current market, it would be wise to take a wait and see approach before investing more.

Edit: I should add that I have a very long-term out look. 10 years plus.

Investing in funds - continue to trickle feed each month or lump sums?

Hi. I’m in the U.K. I started watching the stock market last year and invested at the start of this month. I’ve invested in a few funds in different sectors, about half of them are in tech. I’ve not put a lot in, the equivalent of a couple of hundred dollars into each. My question is with the recent fluctuations and such, should I trickle feed a little into each fund, or buy more of just one fund once a month?

Also before anyone asks, funds are much easier to invest in than US shares, no tax to pay etc and I feel it doesn’t put all my eggs in one basket!

Thanks

Indexing - Buying the same index at different brokers? - Long Term Risk.

With ETFs being relatively new, it wouldn't be surprising if some ETF's and brokers aren't around in 30+ years. I understand ETFs like VOO, VT etc. have the best chance of surviving long term but my question is this: do any of you split your funds among multiple brokers for the same index incase either the fund or broker is closed? (Assuming no commission and same MER).

Assuming you intend to hold long term (30 years+), realizing a capital gain after 20 years because the fund/broker closes wouldn't be ideal.

Thoughts?

Has the Market the past 2 months been "normal"?

I've just gotten into investing this year, and began Feb 5th. I have never paid much attention to the Market and have been a bit more now. Has these past 2 months been "normal" considering previous years issues? I know the trade wars have affected things as a whole it seems, and the Facebook and other more specific issues happen which can affect those specific stocks/industries. But is this an abnormal 2 month period, or considered "normal" market fluctuation?

I've been sitting at about -0.30% overall with my current investments as of today at 12:20pm PST, so I'm not too worried about much long term items, but I am definitely curious.

Sharing Proprietary Fundamental Analysis of Multi-line Industrials (GE, HON, UTX, MMM, ROP, DHR)

I recently concluded interviews for a Senior Equity Analyst role at a major bank covering Industrials. Had a lot of fun piecing together the attached analysis as part of the interview process and thought I would share in public domain. All work belongs to me and is based upon publicly available sources.

Overall summary of winners and losers: https://imgur.com/2jPyoup

Here's the complete deck, about 24 pages https://imgur.com/a/P9kxH

Key takeaways

  • Multi-line Industrials (MLIs) winners have been disciplined with portfolio decisions, focusing on secular growth tech sectors and have maintained very lean corporate centers that drive financial accountability, especially FCF conversion with OpCos
  • MLI losers have been more diversified with large corporate centers and over-investment in cyclical positions and early stage tech where ROI has been slower than anticipated
  • MLIs are increasingly focused on four major end markets and migrating to tech-centric positions in those end markets... divesting consumer, home, and other areas that are recent targets of competition from low cost suppliers in Asia and elsewhere
  • GE Meltdown Round 2... pre-cursor to a breakup? Feels likley... Long-term degredation of OP% has followed GM%, which is a result of poorly times acquisitions (Alstom, BH) and weak Lighting and Renewables... Aviation and Healthcare if spun out would be more market value than current total GE based on peer P/E ratios... Becomes a buy once accounting concerns put to rest
  • Concern re "who is the next GE" - further investigation... UTX? JCI? Accounting and Op% trends to be looked at
  • Potential wave of M&A in Aerospace, as cash repatriated and in response to UTX/RCI... counter argument is who would buy at likely top of cycle. Safran?
  • Winners: ROP, DHR (not FTV), HRS, PH (note: ROP, HRS already high PE)
  • Losers: ETN, IR, CFX

What is the endgame for the StockMarket?

Eventually all companies will peak. Even Amazon in the future will grow until it cannot grow any longer. At which point they still have to make share holders happy, to do this the answer always seems to be layoffs or shutting down plants to help squeeze out an extra 2% growth in profits.

Not everyone will grow as large and as worldwide as Amazon so for smaller companies the peak growth can be reached rather quick in some cases and see the shutdowns, sells, layoffs happen sooner. Now I can see how shareholders are useful and important to help a company grow but once the company has grown to its fullest extent then I can also see how shareholders can become a problem. It gets to a point where companies value shareholders over their own product or employees when they get far enough into the game.

So my question is what is the endgame? Just a endless repeating cycle of companies growing only to implode later? Or can we come up with slightly different system where companies are not as depended on shareholders as they are today?

Facebook $FB - A short situational post

Hello!
I am sure most of you know roughly what has happened to facebook in this latest development in the markets. The data "breach", the drop in their stock from a close to ATH 185 all the way down to 160, a 14% drop in their market cap. There is a lot of misinformation out there, and while I do not say I am right, I have a tendency to trust what numbers tell me.

Disclaimer: This is my own analysis. Feel free to take this information and make whatever choice you would like. I have no intrest in analyzing the actual events and exact details of this even. If you want that, my analyses are not where you want to be. I analyze numbers, fundamentals and management actions, which is what matters in my eyes long term. An example of this is that some people believe that Facebook as a business contain risk of social media trends. Where their mistake is in my eyes is that this risk in intangible for them. Practically useless. I translate this risk into numbers by balancing MAU, DAU, average revenue per user, indefinite maturity rate and discount rate, allowing me to take the risk into actual calculations.

Financials
I used my model for Facebook and built multiple versions, trying to pinpoint where they could be going in the future, and what the general market expectation is. For Facebook because I believe that the platform contains a base trend risk, I evaluate their financials with a maturity rate of -3%, and a discount rate of 8%.

It is fairly realistic to assume that as Facebook matures additionally as a company, we will see minor drops in margins. It is really fantastic how facebook have maintained their current margins for this long while not adding on any debt (currently $0 debt & $41 Billion net cash). Therefore it is very probable we will see their gross margin and operating margin drop, to 82% (from 87%) and 50% down by 2% per year until they reacg around 35%, which is realistic compared to other internet platforms.

Now using my standard evaluation of growth companies, Facebook is unrealistically undervalued (183% upside). This evaluation comes from assuming the margin shrinkage mentioned above, as well as a annual growth reduction by 5-2% per year (steep to begin with). Facebooks exceptional margins makes any growth profitable to the point of insanity. This evaluation gives facebook 54% upside at their all time high.

The market
Right now, the market puts facebook at $160 per share, a market cap of $465 Billion. To achive their evalution, with the slightly-grim assumption of -3% maturity and 8% discount, we need a steep lowering of growth as well as a fall of their margins. We can easily achive this evaluation by expecting a margin drop of net margin from the current 40$ to 12% over 15 years. On top of this, we need to have their revenue growth basically collapse. The revenue would have to act similary to this drop of 47% y/y in 2017, 33% in 2018, 25% in 2021 all the way down to the loss of growth in 2026, maturing from there (@-3% net margin). These assumption puts the net present value at the current $160 per share.

This picture is very, very grim.

My opinion

The market assumes Facebook to start shrinking in 12 years, after losing growth rapidly, something that haven't happen since it took off. I see the media today capitalizing on the hate, portraying that the public is deleting Facebook and that the platform will die similar to Myspace. This to me is an obvious media push. The loss of growth that the cost would require is absurd. Even in previous cases where Facebook and privacy have been in headlines, their monthly active users grew. Growth will slow down as they are unable to add more users, but the company is worth over 13000 times that what myspce was at when it started declning. This business is a global superpower, and could today with what is in their warchest acquire myspace as sold over a thousand times. Anyone who compares the two are delusional.

Facebook is today in my opinion worth, at a conservative view, $200 usd per share. They are year over year adding 23% monthly active users in Asia, and is successfully profiting from them. They are still growing in the western world, with a very understandable slowdown in growth. The company today prints money to absurdly low costs. It is truly impressive compared to other companies. They are priced for growth, and the risk comes in from not growing. However, the abrupt drop in growth that the current price demands is unrealistic. If facebook would maintain their growth trend throughout 2018, that will be enough to show that the ridiculous loss of growth that the market seems to irrationally expect is just that. Ridiculous.

Feel free to ask questions and discuss!

Dow sees steady growth despite recent drop

Why is this? Usually after dips it starts getting volatile AF, but the Dow saw smooth sailing today despite last week.

Usually the markets have a stroke and start freaking out and the prices see a bumpy ride, with the exception of this one.

Facebook. Buy the dip??

Could further sanctions forever change the landscape of Facebook? With uncertainty regarding upcoming regulations, do you think Facebook will recover to the same status it had lets say 2 months ago?

Personally, I think we could see a further downfall in the upcoming weeks; however, I still think this is a long term hold.

What will happen to the stock market if technological unemployment displaces millions of workers?

During the internet’s transition to the mainstream we saw a huge run up and then the dotcom bubble burst. Will we likely see a similar pattern play out with AI in the coming years?

On the one hand you have the massive productivity increases and cost savings granted by robots and cheaper automated labor. But on the other hand many retail investors may be unable to continue participating in the stock market due to losing their jobs to robots or AI.

Will the rise of a global useless class that can’t buy things because they have no income hurt profits? Or will enough new jobs be created to replace the ones lost? (I’m skeptical)

I don’t know if this is the right place to post this kind of a question but any related subreddits or articles or videos are more than welcome and I’ll try to comment on as many replies below as possible. Let’s start a constructive discussion about what might happen and what is most likely to happen to the stock market in the future.

Just looking to put the end of day price for each stock that has been listed on the NYSE into a spreadsheet. It does not have to be current but it just has to be over a decent period of time. Anywhere I find this information, it costs a large amount of money. Google Finance does not seem to have this information any more. Is there any way to do this outside of paying my entire savings or manually inputting millions of data points?

Fundamental Analysis - SORL Auto Parts (SORL)

Hey everyone!

Since the last analysis I did on NETE it's fallen 50% so the reality of their nearly bankrupt situation is kicking in. Here's another quick analysis on SORL Auto Parts, a Chinese auto parts manufacturer that makes brake systems and other auto components for commercial and passenger vehicles. On the surface it looks pretty good but I think we need to read between the lines a bit due to the fact that Chinese companies have different accounting standards.

I'm using LazyFA in conjunction with sec.gov to dig into the financials at a high level as a starting point for research.

Here's my analysis

And here's a quick look at the numbers

I'd love to hear others thoughts on the company! The chart is nice from a technical standpoint too so I think if there's a consensus that the company has decent fundamentals and releases good earnings on 3/29, we might have a nice breakout candidate over $7.00 - $7.50

I've made the ticker free for the week so anyone who wants to use LazyFA to dig into the company can do so too!

Let me know if there are any questions!

Want to make some purchases tonight.

Mainly SPY and a few S&P 500 ETFs, however I work during trading hours and need to make sure I get the price I want.

Considering the market has some volatility now the last time I tried to place an order everything jumped and I missed my buy in.

SPY is sitting at 258.05, I just want my order to go through. I do dollar cost averaging so the price being a few dollars up or down is okay but. Usually I add .50 to 1.00 to my limit order so it goes through but it hasn't been working nicely recently. How much is it suggested I add to make sure it goes through?

Significant Insider Trading Activity (Last 7 Days)

This is a list of the top 30 companies that experienced the largest change in insider shares in the last seven (7) days. The SEC defines an insider as any officer, director or 10% shareholder. It is not illegal for these people to buy or sell their own shares. In fact, since most of them get paid in stock options, it is expected. However, it is illegal for them to trade on inside information that has not been made public. So for example if there are drug trial results that are bad and not public, insiders cannot dump shares. That said, many people have observed that insiders - in general - seem to have a good track record at timing their purchases.

Cisco Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: CSCO) 10.8% Boeing Co. (NYSE: BA) 8.85% Intel Corp. (NASDAQ: INTC) 6.93% Nike Inc. (NYSE: NKE) 3.33% Visa Inc. (NYSE: V) 2.61% Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ: MSFT) 1.92%

The Dow Jones industrial average has had worse weeks this year, but last week was bad enough. The market’s longest-running index closed the week down nearly 1% for the year to date. Only six Dow stocks have managed to post a year-to-date gain and the top-performing stock for most of last year and essentially all of this year has been toppled.

At the end of the trading week, Cisco Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: CSCO) was the top-performing Dow stock for the year to date, with a gain of 10.8%. Goldman Sachs added the network equipment maker to its Conviction Buy list last week and raised its price target on the stock from $51 to $54, well above the consensus $48.74. For the 12-month period through Friday, Cisco stock is up 25%.

We compare current fundamentals to the 2000 stock market dot com bubble and also discuss what is going on with Facebook and how to take a position. What online stock broker for one trade?

I don't want to get into stock trading too much, I just want to buy stocks of one company and sell them in a few months. I did some research myself but most of the info I found was outdated or confusing to me. I'm not going to invest much, probably around 100$. What online stock broker should I choose?

EDIT: I live in Poland.

EDIT2: I want to buy stocks of a Polish company, does it change anything?

I’ve been buying stock here and there in this little company for a while. I had belief in they would do something, but don’t feel that way anymore. Tbh, I think they may actually get bought up in the next year or so.

Currently, I’m in the red and have been waffling on selling or keeping it. Just not sure what it’s going to do.

I have multiple stocks in Apple, Texas Instruments, Microsoft, Visa a few other smaller stocks. They all are doing negative, and it seems that Trumps trade war could send them plunging even further. Would selling out now and re-buying later when they are lower be a good option?

Potential blow ups and long term investment suggestions?

I lost a good bit with some penny shares (day trade limit screwed me and I missed a sell point since something came up on the job) I know we can’t 100% predict when a stock blows up but if anyone knows of any I’d like to get in on it too! Also if anyone has any recommendations of some stock that show steady growth, preferably see profits in weeks but I enjoy a long hold too.

$RUN is a great example of what I’m looking for. I bought in at 7.20 and sold at 8, bought the dip and still holding. But this is something I see growing for years as well. Not just a flip and dip.

Thoughts on Comcast?

Been in since net neutrality was waved. Riding through their Sky bid. I buy a handful more every week or so to bring my avg down. Seems to be dropping to no end yet everywhere I look it’s classed as a good buy and their 52wk projected SP is damn up there. I’m confident it’ll go up eventually if news on Sky bid comes out (unless it’s that they increased their bid ) or if dis/Fox makes a counter move. Either bid more or sell off their Hulu to Comcast. But whatever happens it’s almost guaranteed they’ll rebound right? And if it’s such a good buy why is the price steady dropping with all the support?

This is kind of a bear/bull poll and if any other fellow Comcast holders have some info to share!

Boeing (BA)

What is your opinion of Boeing after the tariffs? Boeing has experienced a decline from $370 to $319 within a month. I decided to invest, and buy 19 shares, for a total of 32 now. I know investing must remain within an objective standpoint, but I purchased at $329 and an hour later the stock was valued at $319. In summary, a painful day, but the long-term is what is important.

Multi millionare portfolios?

People who have hundreds of thousands of dollars (or millions) invested in the market, and trade regularly, what does their portfolio usually look like? Things im curious about :

-How much do they spend on one company? Couple thousand? Hundred thousand? Is it normal to drop 100k in $10 stock?

-How diverse are they? Invest in 5 different companies? 100?

-Do they only buy expensive stock? Is it worth their time to invest in $2 stocks?

-How often would they trade? Multiple times a day every day? Couple times a week? I normally do 1 or 2 trades a week.

-What's the threshold for selling off your shares? 10% rise or fall? 5%? 50%?

Just some things im curious about. I only have a few thousand in and normally spend about 2 to 4k on like 3 to 5 companies.

Your favorite stock market overview website?

Hi all,

Not sure if this is the right forum for this question, but I was curious how you all digest your daily financial information at its most broad level.

I was a heavy user of Google Finance before this latest change (which made it unusable). I'm looking for a new tool / webpage / portfolio to view some high level information.

What I'm looking for on one page:

  • portfolio abilities to add stocks to a watchlist

  • ability to see the price, % change, and total market cap of those stocks

  • one-day graph of market indices

  • news feed

I tried Tiingo (based on the sidebar recommendation) but couldn't customize the statistics available on the portfolio view (ie no market cap). I have no interest in entering my own stock ownership, just how a single name is changing day to day.

Any suggestions??
