I checked out Robinhood's website and they do not serve Canadians.
Does anybody know of a Robinhood style app for Canadians?
Also, when looking at a stock, it gives you an indication of how much it has dropped or risen since market open, usually followed by a percentage. How is this percentage calculated?

Someone who is much smarter than me. What just happened to $CRM
Current after hours trading has them down 8.6%
Here is the meat and potatoes.. Exceeded expectations Q2 and Guidance for Q3 is looking slightly lower. How does this equate to the value the stock has dropped. How does this guidance justify -8.6% currently. What part of this makes up a more than 4 billion dollar loss in Market Cap?
While EPS of $0.24 came in $0.02 ahead of the Street’s consensus, revenue of $2.04 billion was slightly higher than the anticipated $2.02 billion, and unbilled deferred revenue came in around ~$8.0 billion, up 29 percent year-over-year, Q3 guidance disappointed investors. For the third quarter, management said it expects revenue of $2.11 billion to $2.12 billion, below expectations for $2.13 billion. Non-GAAP EPS guidance for $0.20 to $0.21 also fell short of analysts’ consensus, which stands at $0.24. For the full year, the company forecast non-GAAP EPS of $0.93 to $0.95, mostly below the Street’s $0.95 estimate, and revenue of $8.275 billion to $8.325 billion, once again under expectations for $8.31 billion.

Student in process of applying to Investment Clubs, need help
Hello,
I am a freshman who is going to go though the application process for Investment Clubs at my school. The clubs themselves are highly selective, rarely taking over 5-10 people an incoming class.
I am already at a significant disadvantage because the vast majority of those accepted are in the Business Honors program or at least even the Business School, yet I am currently a Liberal Arts student (International Relations, Economics), I plan on using this as a comparative advantage as I have a more unique background than the rest of the applicants; however, I want to whatever I can to appear more competitive and knowledgable in the process. Although I do not know a lot about the field, I have always had an innate curiosity for Finance and Investment. I am asking here for advice on how to get a leg up in the application process and what I can do to be ready. For one of the Investment Teams I need to pitch a stock -- although I have browsed this and many other subs related to investing/stocks, I am still not sure how to proceed and give warrantable reasons as to why this stock is the best option.
Thank you for the help.

r/StockMarket Stock Picking Challenge for the week of (8/29 - 9/2)
OK, so I'm attempting to give this one more whirl on our sub to see if there is any interest at all from the community here.
I do this at another community that I'm apart of, and these contests are not only highly successful but also quite competitive in that the more folks who participate and post picks the more competitive these contests get!
This contest is kinda similar to what /u/ghostofgbt was asking the other day only it's different as /u/ghostofgbt was asking for everyone to post tickers that you wanted him to analyze in a video that he would be delivering for you guys (which BTW, awesome stuff there Chris!!)
Here I'm asking for you guys to post tickers in which you believe will perform the best this week...
If you want to eligible to participate in this week's contest here is what you need to do (REQUIRED!):
- 1.) Post 2 tickers (ex. AAPL = Apple) but pick 2 not just 1...
- 2.) Choose either Long or Short for each ticker (Obviously LONG - if you think it will go up ... or SHORT - if you think it will go down this week...)
- 3.) Both of your picks MUST each be at least $2 minimum!
Contest Rules (READ THESE AND FOLLOW THEM!):
- 1.) No OTC or Foreign companies.
- 2.) No Options, Futures, Forex, stuff like that... ONLY Equities!
- 3.) If you don't post both the ticker AND the direction (LONG/SHORT) you won't be added to the list of contestants for this week's stock picking challenge!
- 4.) You cannot duplicate someone's exact play! Either of them! For example- If someone picks AAPL - Long first then you can only pick AAPL - Short (if it has not already been taken yet!) First come, first serve.
- 5.) Picks MUST be posted in here before the 9:30AM eastern cash market open tomorrow!
- 6.) You are only allowed 1 leveraged ETF. If you choose two, the second of the two does not count and is still up for grabs. If incorrect picks go un-noticed, you risk your position being forfeited. (These are the 2x/3x ETF's)
- 7.) Optional - You may post a rationale (either technical or fundamental) for your picks, but it is not mandatory.
- 8 .) Please DO NOT EDIT your picks! If you absolutely must choose another pick, please use a separate post and state that you are changing your original pick to something else!
I will post up the spreadsheet after the market close tomorrow with everyone's picks, this will include the opening prices, current prices, P&L, and ROI for each of your picks, as well as an overall average ROI between 2 of your picks, and that will be what we will use to total up your 2 picks!
If you guys have any questions please let me know...
Edit: Oh and since we're doing this on Reddit, no one will be able to close out their picks during the week... Everyone's picks will close on Friday.
I think running this contest on /r/StockMarket has the potential to be very successful ... so please don't shy away or feel reluctant in any way to post up some picks in here that you think can do very well!
Let's see what you guys all got for stock picks this week! May the best picker win! lol
Good luck to everyone! Let's see who can deliver the 2 best picks this week!! :)

17 year old, wanting to become a day trader?
Hi. I'm 17 years old, turning 18 in two weeks and since I was 9, I've had a profound interest in world markets, companies, politics, economics and real-estate. It started when my dad would watch Jim Cramer on CNBC during the 2008 Recession, and that's where it grew.
Since I was 11 and a half, I've been actively involved in the economies of two online games (Team Fortress 2 and ROBLOX) and have made over $15,000 since then. Not much considering it's been over 4 years since, however I think it's quite a bit, considering I started with virtually zero, literally. I would buy and sell virtual items, speculate, calculate when I think would be the most 'appropriate' time to sell it, etc.
I learned quite a bit, and it made me realize how much tougher it is to self-earn, as opposed to earning with an actual salaried job. However, now that I've had experience self-earning and earning through several real life jobs and paid internships, I've begun to realize how much I dislike working for other people, and being someone else's corporate slave. I thoroughly enjoy working for myself, making my own money, and being introverted.
I absorb information extremely quickly, and I am quick to make a judgement or analysis on virtually anything. I read 24/7 and I already know quite a bit on how things work. Without bragging, at 14 I predicted that Facebook would be a huge hit 2-3 years after its IPO release (this was when it first went public), and everyone around me in real life went along with what the media thought (they thought it wouldn't do well, as Facebook wasn't performing too well during its initial release, but that changed). I made the same prediction with Tesla, and most recently with crude oil this year.
I learned a multitude from my gaming experience, most importantly with risk management. Never gamble more than you can afford, Always make sure that you have something to fall back on, or a very good amount leftover, always be prepared to take a risk, and even if you lose, you still have something. But yeah.
How can I do this? Currently I am in college and I initially wanted to be a lawyer, but I realized how much I'd dread it. I am personally OK with working a mundane job for the next 3-5 years, as I don't spend a dime of what I earn/have, and I am very grateful that my dad is allowing me to live rent free, food expensive-free, etc.
Suggestions please! PS: I would also FOREX trade as well, but that's a different story.

I'll analyze the top 10 stock tickers posted in the comments and make a video with my analysis
I'm a swing/day trader and will do some short term chart/fundamental analysis on the top 10 tickers posted here. I might throw in some thoughts longer term but mostly you should assume a shorter term trade (days to weeks).
If you want a chart analyzed respond with the following (REQUIRED):
- Ticker
- Long or short (i.e. do you think it will go up or down)
Rules (READ THESE AND FOLLOW THEM):
- No OTC or foreign companies.
- No options, futures, forex, etc. Equities only.
- If you don't post both a ticker AND a direction (long/short) I can't analyze it
- If you see one you want analyzed already posted, upvote it.
I'll do the top 10 most upvoted or the 10 most common that follow all the rules.
I'll post the video after I let the thread run for a while and collect tickers!
Have fun!

IRA vs Normal Account
Is there any reason a normal investment account would be preferable to an IRA for long term investments? The tax advantages for an IRA makes a normal account seem unattractive unless the funds in the normal account are low risk and intended for low yield emergency funds since it isn't penalized for withdrawals.
I also haven't found an IRA that has near zero trade costs like a few normal account does.

Why are stock prices delayed?
From what I understand all the tickers I can access for free on Google Finance and Yahoo Finance and (I believe) even through my value broker site are delayed a bit. Why? I know you can pay for access to "instantaneous" prices but in this day and age what keeps it from being free?
What site gives the least delayed numbers for free?
Thank you in advance.
EDIT: Ok, so everyone keeps telling me the sites I'm looking at are not delayed. But when I look at two or three of those sites simultaneously they don't all have the same numbers at the same time so SOMETHING is causing some delay. The only real explanation I guess is maybe these sites aren't deliberately delayed, so I guess there I go. I'll have to watch and see which of the sites available to me is closest to real time.
Thanks, r/Stockmarket.

Is the market about to crash?
I have a few reasons why I think the market is about to tank soon, some are my own ideas and some are those of big name investors/ businessmen that I've collected in my research. First off, the DJIA, S&P 500, and the Nasdaq all hot record highs last Monday. The last time that that happened was three months before the dot com bubble burst in 1998. Second, if Janet Yellen announces an interest rate hike, investors who are used to the low rate are going to become uneasy and pull their money, creating a ripple effect. Third, big names like Robert Kiyosaki, Donald Trump, and Warren Buffett have warned that a possible collapse could be coming. Fourth, according to Robert Kiyosaki, 2016 is the first year that the oldest baby boomers will be required to withdraw their 401(k)'s further pulling money from the market. Fifth, the liquidity crisis that the mortgage market may be about to face will further hurt the market. Thoughts?
TL:DR
Several factors like record highs, rate hikes, warnings from investors, 401k drama, and a possible mortgage crisis are about to tank the market.
If at any point I make myself sound like an idiot, or have any ideas that aren't fully developed, please call me out on it.

Swing Trading, Random Marketing Question/Advice Requested
I'm doing marketing for a company (no I will not be disclosing the name in this post) and I'm having a very hard time creating a proper campaign or demographic to advertise toward. It seems everyone is only interested in penny stock day trading or some get rich quick scheme. My client provides swing trading information on large cap/blue chip stocks for 3 day-2 week holds using a high probability, low risk (1%-ish downside) method. I've tried numerous avenues of advertising and it seems that maybe the internet isn't even the right place?? People are either going crazy if their retirement investing gains 8% a year, or if they make 5000% in a year on penny stocks, but there's no in-between? Trade logs of 100% in gains on alerted trades in the past 6 months should be marketable somewhere right? Once again, not disclosing the clients information on a public reddit post, I'd probably get in trouble two-fold.
Any advice on how I can get their name out there TO THE RIGHT AUDIENCE? There is the issue of not wanting to publicly post their trades as they happen, because let's face it, that kind of defeats the purpose of them charging for their service (currently at approximately 100-150 subscribers). Thank you.

DJIA Overvalued by 1,000 points?
Before everyone starts screaming about how financial models aren't meant to be used this way and that my first born should be ashamed of me, let me just say that this is just to provoke conversation.
That said, using finbox.io, I've aggregated the "fair values" of the 30 Dow Jones Industrial Average components and find that the "Fair Value" of the Dow Jones is roughly 17,563 (roughly 1,000 points lower than current close).
To give some background, the "fair values" for each of the components is calculated from the average analyst estimates. Also, these fair values for each component are actually the averages of multiple valuation models including Divided discount models and DCF models with different exit pricing (growth multiples, EBITDA multiple, etc.).
With that said, what are everyone's thoughts? Does this market look ripe for a correction, or are we going to see analysts raise their estimates moving forward? I would also note that I've evaluated the Dow Jones Fair value on two other occasions, May 4th and August 4th, and the fair value for the DJIA has decreased each time.

Right now on the sports betting website Bovada, I could get a 4% return betting on Hillary Clinton winning California. The election is in 3 months which is equal to a 16% annual return. Theres about as much chance as your broker being the next Bernie Madoff or the sun rising in the west as there is for Trump to win California.

I'll analyze the top 10 stock tickers posted in the comments and make a video with my analysis
I'm a swing/day trader so this time I'm going to try to stay away from the long term stuff since it's not my forté.
Probably later tonight.
Have fun!

Amazon Breaks Key Chart Support, Likely Free Fall To $600 Begins $AMZN
It may sound crazy, but I assure you it is likely. Amazon just broke key support of a upward-sloping trend line and is now beginning a bear market move. The target is $600.00. If you think about it in the context of Amazon's move up in 2016, it is not that crazy. Amazon was $475.00 early in 2016. It recently hit an all-time high of near $775.00. So in reality, a pull back to $600.00 is not that crazy. Notice on the stock chart below how that steep up-sloping trend line from early this year was never broken until the last few days. This shows the break down clearly. A short on Amazon is the high reward trade.

So I've looked around and am trying to find a career to jump into after high school. I think a job in stocks would be a good career for me. But what does it mean to be a stock trader and how much do traders REALLY make? Some sites say they make millions, others say less than 100k what is a ballpark salary?

Do NOT buy stocks like HAIN
Disclaimers:
- The Following information is for educational purposes only, I am not a CFA or in any way licensed to give financial advice.
- I don't trade stocks
- I am a professional trader (I trade options and futures on the S&P 500 almost exclusively) and have been for the last 3 years.
From a fundamental point of view, If a company has accounting irregularities and a previous history of consistent growth, assume the books are cooked (extreme example, Enron). None of the numbers that the company has posted mean anything anymore.
From a technical point of view, the stock just lost 30% of its value in just a few days, and its last all time high was in August of 2015. This stock has long broken its uptrend, Stocks in general do not bottom instantly on the first big move down once they have broken their uptrends. Yes, in strong trends sometimes there will be sharp pullbacks that can be bought, but once you are far outside of the normal range its rare for the first huge drop to be the absolute bottom. If you are a stud day trader and know how to manage your risk, then more power to you, there will be counter trend bounces, and they will potentially be large. But I gather most of this subreddit is newbies or people attempting to self manage their IRA's/retirement accounts, and only a very small % are likely pro-daytraders (again if you are pro, stick with what works for you, pay no attention to me). Trends take time to change, unless you have deep enough pockets to actively change the trend, wait for others to change the trend first, and then follow along.
Here is a chart with some notes illustrated
And another one that looks like HAIN
And an example of a reasonable place to buy a beaten down stock
I hope this post can save at least one person some money, wether it be on HAIN, or any other crummy stock that lost its uptrend and is in free fall. The key to avoiding large losses is wait for the trend to change first.. you don't have to be the hero to buy the bottom tick in order to make money.
The above information is solely my opinion based on real life experiences in the market (From when I used to lose money trading stocks and what I see on shorter intervals in the futures market). Your experiences may vary. And always remember to manage your risk! its the only thing that will keep you in this game long term.

I'm a beginner and I'm looking for advice on investing in Facebook
I just started getting interested in investing yesterday, and I've read everything in this subreddit's and /r/investing 's sidebars. I'm looking at FB as my first stock to invest in, and from everything I've looked at it seems like a great investment. But I probably don't know shit, because how could it be this easy. I made up a basic Pros and Cons list for investing in this company:
PROS:
Constant growth over the years of it being public
Very good management team
Very few competitors
Massive userbase
27% profit margin last year
Owns a variety of businesses
Recommended by many big analysts
Has a monopoly in the tech industry
Owns Instagram and Whatsapp
Has potential to grow exponentially if they popularize Oculus Rift
Cons:
Userbase might be partially inactive
Myspace became irrelevant very quickly
90% ad revenue
May lose relevancy over the next few years
Has no idea how to monetize Oculus Rift
Tech industry is constantly changing
Google + has 500 million users and is Facebook’s competition
So my question is, am I missing anything? Are there any signs that FB might tank over the next few years? I might just be very naive, but FB looks like a good long term investment, and I can see it growing a lot

SPY - a note on stock market timing...
Following the red…SEE THE CHART HERE
After a nice eight-day swing to the upside, SPY tripped a bit today into a red candle.
That goes along with a down trend in market breadth that has been going on now for 15 trading days, and goes along with a two-day uptick in the VIX, and 19 stocks on my nifty-fifty stock list gave sell signals today.
All of these indications (and a lot, lot more) are bearish but it’s been hard, thanks to the Fed, to get the market to go down so the obvious question once again remains: is this a Jan/Feb/Brexit drop coming, or just another one day dip?
Hard to tell, but red is red until it’s green again. That simple.
Me thinks the downside has to be played (with tight stops of course) because one of these days the dip is going to become a drop before anyone can catch it. Needless to say, it the drop becomes a plunge it will pretty much take everything with it.

My question is, has anyone else been in contact with this company and have some information about them? When I search for them it pops up questions about scam but nothing substantial it seems.

XLK - Sell high or hold on
Pretty new to managing my own portfolio and I'm curious at what point do I start thinking about selling? A significant part of my portfolio is in XLK and my total gain is 9.43% thus far. This seems like a huge gain to me but I'm not sure what the market cap is for XLK or where to even find this information. For what it's worth my intuition tells me to hold on until there's a sharp decline as the five year forecast is just a big trend line upwards. YRD stock price will rise sharply
Since YRD went public on Nasdaq, it's sales and revenue have skyrocketed. It’s Q2 2016, up 140% from the same quarter last year; also raised Q3 revenue forecasts. Last Friday, Shorters ignored the strong fundamental of YRD, use heavily margin to push the stock price down; but volume shrink dramatically and no much followers. as the stock price recovers and goes up, if it breaks resistant $33, will cause dramatic Short Squeeze, and YRD shares will drastically skyrocket up.

I'll analyze the ten most upvoted tickers in the comments and post a video
EDIT: MAKE SURE YOU SPECIFY BOTH LONG OR SHORT, AAAANNNDDDD WHETHER IT'S LONG TERM, MEDIUM TERM OR SHORT TERM!
Let's try something new: I'll analyze the ten most upvoted tickers in response to this thread and post a video with my analysis.
Rules:
- Post a single ticker along with whether you are thinking LONG or SHORT, and whether you're thinking short term, medium term, or long term. (e.g. "Long AAPL, Short Term") - I'll assume the entry time is immediately.
- Long term means years, medium term means weeks/months, short term means days/weeks.
- If you see a ticker someone's already posted and you want it analyzed, upvote it to push it to the top.
- For any ties I will just do the tickers in the order they came in, up to 10.
- I'll give it a few hours then post a Youtube video in response with my thoughts/analysis of the top 10.
- LISTED STOCKS/ETFs ONLY. I don't trade options, futures, forex or OTC so I can't analyze them. Penny stocks are fine as long as they're LISTED and not sub-penny garbage.
- If you happen to miss responding before I post the video, be faster next time ;-)
My trading style: I'm a full time day/swing trader that is mostly focused on technical analysis but I do mix in fundamentals for added conviction in my trades. I do swing trade longer term but my primary focus is short term (5-10 days) swing and day trading.
Let me know if there are any questions!

"The last time all three indexes jointly closed at records was Dec. 31, 1999. Stocks tumbled shortly after they reached those records."
There were two or three other negative comments as well in Timothy Puko's article. I get it if this were in the Money&Investing segment, but the front page feels off. It seemed like an intentional hit on the market.

Making sense of Nasdaq Marketplace, Nasdaq Index, Nasdaq Exchange, Nasdaq label in Level II quotes and Nasdaq Inc. Also some questions on Exchanges, Etfs and related things
In US there is NYSE (Nyse Euronext), Nasdaq (Nasdaq Inc) and BZX (Bats). On Wikipedia page for Nasdaq I found this
Moving on, I'm confused about listing on an exchange vs trading on an exchange. Reading up on the topic has made me curious about the bigger picture while making sense of individual components.
For example, Alibaba was listed on NYSE but when I look at Level2 quotes that I get from my broker, I can see bids from Nasdaq. What's going on here?
Dual Listing - It says that companies can list on London Stock Exchange and NYSE. This makes sense. But can they list on NYSE and Nasdaq? If yes, does that change anything observable in the trading? If no, why not?
Moving on to Etfs, Would it is correct to say that Etfs are not listed on any exchange (atleast in the same sense that AliBaba is listed on NYSE)?
If I were to aggregate all the Stocks on Nyse and Nasdaq MarketCap, would all the Etf units related to the same stocks, end up as a subsection of this value (etf value is always just a part of the net value and not outside)? I'm sure I'm not phrasing my question properly. I guess what I'm asking is if all the money that flows into the etf ends up in the stocks only.

Forecast of the Nasdaq Composite Index action into late this year.
The Nasdaq Composite Index has in my opinion been in a sideways consolidation that began about July 17, 2015 and will end later this year.
Here is my model which is based on hundreds of simultaneous oscillations plus a trend, all identified in the historic data, and projected into the future. As the future unfolds and more data is fed into the calculations, the forecast changes slightly so always, the further into the future one looks, the less clear is the roadmap. There is sort of a receding horizon effect.
Here is how my February 12, 2016 forecast (originally posted in this sub) of the Nasdaq Composite Index played out, which should give you an idea of how well or poorly this method works.

Survey: Use of Financial Statements in investing decisions (Master's Thesis research)
Hello /r/StockMarket,
Hopefully this isn't breaking any rules for offtopicness, but in the name of getting research done, I suppose it's worth a shot.
I am currently working on completing my master's thesis, but am looking for a final bit of information to add to the study, and am looking for individuals to fill out a very quick survey on investing decision making. Specifically, this survey will quickly look at likelyhood of utilizing annual reports and financial statements as a tool prior to deciding on investments.
The survey is 13 questions, and should only take a few minutes to finish. I'd appreciate any responses and feedback, along with any questions about the research or survey.

Liberty Global Plc. LBTYA a must buy for today?
Earning came out last night and now the stock is -4%. Problem is that earning were much higher than expected. What am I missing here? Or should I sink a bunch of money into it for a short term trade?

$CERU - Good News for BioTech company yesterday
Got in a 3.01 before closing at market with 450 shares. Good results from their Q2 reports. Partnering with Astrazeneca is massive.
Morning market surge of 20%? Any other holders of CERU in this?

Can someone please interpret BIP.UN for me?
I was in this stock at $48 and out at $52.50. Since then I've wanted to re-enter but it just keeps climbing and climbing. Does anyone see it retracing at all from here? It seems overbought and it's sitting at it's 52-week high and I just can't bring myself to buy after the stock has surged so much in the last few months. Why is it going up so fast and is it sustainable? Anyone see it correcting into the $50's again? Anyone with more knowledge about the market than me please feel free to give your $0 .02.

If ~9 SCTY Stock Become One Tesla Stock...
Would it be entirely stupid to buy the SCTY stock to get the TSLA stock at a cheaper price and make a little bit of profit? I know there's a possibility this deal won't go through but it's more than likely to go through(IMO), what would stop the deal? What are the chances from what you all have seen in the past? I currently have 5 SCTY stock as it is, which is apparent I'm very much a noob still..
