SYY’s profitability is materially distorted by accounting depreciation
As such, their EPS’ is expected to grow by 16% next year, not 29%
After making the appropriate UAFRS adjustments, SYY is trading at a 23.7x Uniform P/E, or a 2.0x PEG, suggesting EPS’ growth does not support currently aggressive valuations
I have a paper (fake) stock account ($100,000), any tips on predicting it's future outcome? Any math equation(s) or algorithm(s)?
I wasn't a fan of RobinHood...I signed up for free today, skipped the step to fund the account, and got a free share of Facebook (FB) lol Winning
The Positives
The Negatives

Alright, so it's probably not farfetched to think that this kind of post gets posted here somewhat often, but I figured I'd make my own that way I could keep track of it.
So as the title suggests, I'm new to this sub, and new to investing. So new that I haven't made any investments yet other than a 401k, and a Roth IRA. I'm basically here to receive any advice anybody could possibly give me. Give me links. Give me personal anecdotes. Websites that help you see current trends in markets. Anything helps, really. Thank you to anybody and everybody who replies!
Hey guys,
So I've been studying the stock market for about 4 months now and using a test account to test strategies etc
I'm currently saving to build up enough to start with, probably going to start with 5000 euro or 7500 euro.
I've looked at a lot of brokers and tradestation seem to be a good fit among one or two others.
Has anyone here used tradestation and any opinions on it?
Thanks
I'm putting together a investment fund, we are in of a veteran trader or two with at least 10 years, preferably 20 of traditional trading experience, fibonacci, wyckoff, VWAP, and whatever else traders use and a proven track record. I know there are trading platforms that show traders performances like tradeview and Ameriprise think or swim any thoughts on where else I might find lists of top traders and their performances?
CMI’s EPS’ was not $2.36, it was actually $1.49 in Q1, and earnings shrunk by 18% year over year, contrary to as-reported metrics which show a 16% growth rate
After making the appropriate UAFRS adjustments, CMI is trading at a 25.6x P/E, not an 18.6x P/E, and a 2.5x-3.0x PEG, suggesting EPS’ growth does not support currently aggressive valuations
CMI’s profitability is materially distorted by accounting for R&D and depreciation
Like I said I have saved $500 for stocks and I want recommendations!
These are insider buys of $10K or more reported to the SEC in the last 7 days. The SEC defines an insider as any officer, director or 10% shareholder. It is not illegal for these people to buy or sell their own shares. In fact, since most of them get paid in stock options, it is expected. However, it is illegal for them to trade on inside information that has not been made public. So for example if there are drug trial results that are bad and not public, insiders cannot dump shares. That said, many people have observed that insiders - in general - seem to have a good track record at timing their purchases.

I have KO certificated stock gifted to me as a child and as a poor post-grad I want to sell it. I already sold my non-certificated shares when they were worth more, and this week shares are up $2 since last week. Is there any way to sell certificate stocks at market price? From what I understand, certificates have to be mailed in. Would it be better to enroll them in a DRIP? Can you even do that? I'm trying to look these things up, but I'm pretty new at all the language. Thanks!
Most traders will scream trap but if you understand you could make very good returns.
Please what are you opinion about this? If there is anyone with a real experience with trading penny stock, please share and give your personal thoughts about it. I'd like to know.
is it uncommon for this to happen in ONE day?
what are some sectors (or particular stocks) that go up this much in a short time frame?
DV’s EPS’ will grow by just 1% in the next four quarters, not by 100% like as-reported metrics suggest
After making the appropriate UAFRS adjustments, EPS’ growth does not suggest DV is a value-pick, but instead could be a value-trap
DV’s profitability is materially distorted by accounting for stock options and operating leases under GAAP
At first, the divergence is a bearish factor. But when the divergence lasts too long, it becomes a bullish factor. The current divergence has lasted 6 months (too long).
IMO highly volatile penny stocks such as HEMP seem to be low risk high reward situations. Correct me where I'm wrong but with HEMP trading at .03 per share you could invest $1000 and in return own 33,333 HEMP stocks. With 33,333 stocks you're looking at a $333 profit with every cent per share that HEMP rises. In 2014 HEMP shot from .14/share to 1.84/share in under a week. So the question remains, if you've got $1000 burning a hole in your wallet, what's wrong with scooping up a cozy 33,333 HEMP stocks and waiting out the next $1 per share jump? From what I can tell you stand to gain 10s of thousands of dollars but only stand to lose your initial $1000 investment in the off chance HEMP goes completely bankrupt. Someone please point out where my logic is flawed and why.
Currently with TDWaterhouse who charge $9.99 per trade.
Recently heard CIBC charge $6.95 per trade.
Thinking of opening an account and switching.
Thoughts?
Thanks in advance to anyone who answers these, sorry for so many questions.
Starting with about $1500. Which is the best broker in the U.S. as far as trading fees and reliability goes? Are penny stocks treated any differently than regular stocks and if so how? What are the SEC's basic trading limitations on penny stocks and normal stocks? How long do exchanges typically take?(time taken to purchase a stock through your broker and own it, as well as the time taken to sell a stock through your broker and actually see the money in your account) Last but not least, how does selling the stock truly work?(which is to say, when you sell a stock are you guaranteed to find a buyer for it at its currently displayed price or can it sit and not sell at a certain price point)
So i've read and watched a lot of information about it. One part that its useless if you dont have £100k+ and if ur amazing you will be lucky to get 10% annual return. So is it useless for me to learn ?(18) I could manage getting £20k (from parents) but I guess it would be pointless. Even if I want to do this as a job, I would learn then anyway so it is pointless?
Hi guys! I am new here. I am from Hong Kong and I would like to start trading on US and Japanese Stock markets. Any reliable broker recommendation?
ZG’s traditional EPS is materially distorted by accounting for R&D and stock option expenses
After making the appropriate UAFRS adjustments, EPS’ is actually positive, expected to reach $0.18 in Q1, not -$0.09
Given the firm’s positive earnings, and consistent, strong growth, they are likely trading at a discount to fair value
According to investopedia, OBV is used to know if the "smart money" is entering, leaving or staying. Are there anyone here who uses it? I have a chart whose stock price droped from 10.5/share to 3.5/share while its OBV dropped from 400M to 300M. Is the 100M difference actually all the "smart money"??
Some fat cats made money spreading climate alarmism. The little guy has been screwed. Soon, when climate alarmism bubble implodes, hedge funds would make money of that. Do not to be screwed again. Carbon Dioxide is not pollution, but a product of human breathe and plant. Learn about Climate Debate!
I'm aware that the stock market and day trading are VERY REAL things. However, after looking into day trading I've come across a lot of "day trading guru's" and "free chat rooms".
I noticed that any type of research I do on day trading, the top hits (google and especially youtube) are usually day trading educational programs that are obviously meant to take my money.
Now , I feel jaded as to who I can trust when it comes to learning about day trading.
Is there a REAL way to start day trading on my own?
Is there a software/trading chatroom that is legit?
Has the whole concept of day trading been skewed into a glorified market where you can make amazing money by first having to subscribe to all of this questionable "support software"?
sorry if this is the wrong place, this subreddit had the most subscribers
I really just don't know what I should do next. I don't make much money at my job and I'm terrible at saving money so Acorns has been a good way for me to do so. I'd mostly be trading on mobile and won't have much time to trade while the market is open because of my job. I'm just looking for general advice.
gentlemen, this is something that needs to be closely analyzed and discussed. trump has been quite vague about his stance on recreational AND medcal marijuana legalization . he holds the key to the marijuana industry potentially sky rocketing.Theres alot of money to be made here.
thoughts?
Big Lots – The discount retailer earned $1.15 per share for the first quarter, beating the 99 cent consensus estimate. However, revenue was below forecasts, and comparable store sales posted an unexpected drop. Despite that, Big Lots forecast a second-quarter profit range largely above consensus, and raised its full-year earnings forecast.
Costco – The warehouse retailer reported adjusted quarterly profit of $1.40 per share, 9 cents above estimates, while revenue also came in above forecasts. Costco saw strong US sales during the quarter, along with higher membership fees. Comparable store sales rose a better than expected five percent.
Lions Gate – Lions Gate beat estimates by 2 cents with quarterly earnings of 28 cents per share, and the movie studio's revenue also beat Street forecasts. The company's results were helped by a strong performance at the box office for movies such as "La La Land", and Lions Gate also benefited from new revenue from the addition of cable channel Starz.
GameStop – GameStop came in 12 cents above estimates, reporting adjusted quarterly profit of 63 cents per share, and the video game retailer also reported better than expected revenue. Comparable store sales were up 2.3 percent, helped in large part by the popularity of the new Nintendo Switch game console.
Norwegian Cruise Line – The cruise line operator's stock was upgraded to "outperform" from "neutral" at Wedbush Securities. Wedbush points to upbeat industry fundamentals combined with Norwegian trading at an "anemic" multiple.
Kate Spade – Coach officially launched its tender offer for Kate Spade for $18.50 per share in cash. The deal between the two was announced earlier this month.
Ulta Beauty – Ulta reported quarterly profit of $2.05 per share, well above the consensus estimate of $1.80, and the beauty products retailer also reported revenue that was above analyst expectations. Ulta did give current-quarter earnings guidance that falls largely below forecasts, however.
Nutanix – Nutanix lost 42 cents per share for its latest quarter, 3 cents less than expected, while the enterprise technology company saw revenue beat forecasts. The company also gave an upbeat revenue forecast for the current quarter, as it strikes more large deals.
Deckers Outdoor – The footwear company posted an unexpected profit of 11 cents per share, compared to the consensus estimate of a 6 cent loss. The maker of Ugg boots reported better than expected revenue for the quarter as well, and gave strong full-year guidance.
Marvell Technology – Marvell beat estimates by 3 cents with quarterly profit of 24 cents per share, with revenue beat forecasts as well. The networking and storage company was helped stronger industry trends as well as expanding profit margins.
Splunk – Splunk lost 1 cent per share for its latest quarter, smaller than the 4 cent loss expected by Wall Street, and revenue also beat forecasts. However, provider of "big data" software is seeing its shares come under pressure, in part because of concerns about its profit margins.
United Parcel Service – UPS was ordered to pay nearly $247 million in fines, after a court ruled it had illegally shipped large amounts of untaxed cigarettes in New York City and New York State. UPS called the ruling disappointing and said it would appeal.
LendingClub – The company, along with former CEO Renaud Laplanche, will have to face a shareholder lawsuit after a federal judge rejected a bid by both parties to dismiss the litigation. Both the online lender and Laplanche are accused of concealing material weaknesses in the company's financial situation.
Web.com – Web.com is in talks with buyout firms, according to a Reuters report. Sources say the domain name registration company is in early stage discussions with private equity firms.

Hello everyone!
I wrote a financial adviser (of sorts) in college (2013) and since then I have made an average of ~100% profit YoY, since then (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016).
If that sounds too good to be true, all I can only show you the proof (profit chart on webpage from 2016). I definitely got a bit lucky, and wouldn't believe it myself if it didn't happen.
Regardless, it's a very useful tool and here is my story, and the web app (http://ift.tt/2r0xOQJ). We just decided to make it publicly available, and we just threw up a mailing list. We plan to officially launch in June.
Anyone from /r/stockmarket who signs up for the mailing list will get 50% off when we launch (on top of a long trial period).
Given this sub is all about posting your opinions / analysis on stocks, bonds, futures, and ETF. I figured my app is a match made in heaven. As the system is literally designed to find other peoples opinion's, determine how much expertise they have, and then aggregate the data for my financial adviser (also part of the app).
You may be wondering, why aren't we starting a mutual fund? We still might, but for the moment, we felt we should gauge how other people feel about the application and help the little guy. Plus, we didn't want to deal with all the pesky regulations.
I guess if you take all sides of a position you can claim to be right somewhere down the line.
SBUX finally managed to reach the equal legs 62.5-64.5 area from November low ending a zigzag structure ( 5-3-5 ) which can turn into an impulsive move and extend higher toward 67.95. So currently 3 waves pullback can be seen and depending on the speed & structure of the correction we'll know if it's only a short term pullback or it's going to correct the whole cycle from November.

Each week, Valens focuses on several companies that were analyzed in the prior week, where material distortions caused by as-reported GAAP accounting need to be corrected to understand a company’s economic fundamentals.
And Ive finally gotten out of the negative in the market. Up $22! Proud of myself mostly because I do no research and shouldn't be investing at all. But here I am! Up 21.20 in my lifetime!
Good afternoon everyone. I am wondering what kind of classes I can take that will boost my understanding of the stock market and how it works. I am thinking an econ class? I am also wondering if there is any sites that offer free courses? Thanks for your help!

Hello, I'm from Sweden and have been following alot of stock veterans and daytraders focusing on the Swedish market for some years. I've learnt alot from them and wonder if you know any good bloggers with focus on the American stock market? I've just recently taken an interest on the global market outside of Sweden :) Thx
Last week , Randgold Resources stock (NASDAQ: GOLD) managed to make new 2017 high opening an extension to the upside as the sequence become bullish. So GOLD should hold above March lows to extend higher toward at least $110. If the move turns out to be a flat than will still correct the cycle against December low $67 before resuming the rally higher which can take it toward new all time higher around $140. I am a student studying computer engineering at the moment. And i have always had a interest in the stock market, but not until recently have i pursued it.
My course load over the next year will not be so heavy, so i have decided as a side project i would try to study the stock market. I am most interested in swing trading and technical analysis. I have already choosen some books:
And what i would like to ask you is what do you think i should change, add or remove from my plan for the next year?
Thank you in advance.
I am looking to get a gift for my brother who is a financial adviser. I am seeing in my head a very cool, classy print of the S&P 500 since inception, sitting on the wall above is desk.
Does anyone have any favorites that would be good for printing large scale and displaying on the wall?

These are insider buys of $10K or more reported to the SEC in the last 7 days. The SEC defines an insider as any officer, director or 10% shareholder. It is not illegal for these people to buy or sell their own shares. In fact, since most of them get paid in stock options, it is expected. However, it is illegal for them to trade on inside information that has not been made public. So for example if there are drug trial results that are bad and not public, insiders cannot dump shares. That said, many people have observed that insiders - in general - seem to have a good track record at timing their purchases.
