What about long-term (10+ years) buy-and-hold investments?

Hey, folks.

Been throwing some money into the markets lately based on some ideas and trends, but really I'm quite conservative. If I was looking into buying some stuff, likely about $1k at a time, c. $10K a year, with a window of 10 or so years to cashing out, what recommendations would you make?
