Nordstrom vs Microsoft, which stock choice is best for low-capital, first investment?

I have about 2000 dollars that I am trying to get invested in either Nordstrom or Microsoft. I am new to the market. My reasoning for Nordstrom is that they are announcing opening many new stores, which will increase revenue over the next few years. As the economy steadily improves, people will start buying less inferior goods and Nordstrom product demand will rise. On the other hand, I believe Microsoft has some good research products in the works, and the dip in stock value is either artificially low or right where it should be as a result of common stock holders selling because of the bad press over Windows software. In addition, I can hold more of Microsoft stock. which do you advise?
