Hi guys! Just a quick heads up in here but I am going to be trying something a little a different and new in here in an effort to make these weekly challenges here at r/StockMarket run as smoothly as they possibly can this year. I wanted to get this out there as early as possible before we really get into the thick of 2017...
So, the honest truth here is that while these weekly stock picking challenges are a nice thing to have at this sub to see what everyone is thinking on a particular stock for that particular week and why. Unfortunately, running these things at r/StockMarket can be a bit tedious at times. The setup here on Reddit isn't very conducive for these type of things. However, I still try to make them work any way possible as I know there are a handful of you guys on this sub who enjoy taking part in these weekly challenges, and even some of you who don't participate but who enjoy reading what other people have to say about a particular stock for that particular week.
So, here is what I was thinking of doing from here on out in order to make these running flawlessly.
As some of you may already be aware of I am an admin at the stock forum called Stockaholics (you can find the link on the right side bar here at r/StockMarket under "Stock market resources" it's the first link under there in fact.
Well, the nice thing about this particular board is that I am able to setup group sections within the actual main forum itself. So, what I have essentially done there is created a entirely separate section from the main Stockaholics board called "Reddit r/StockMarket Community" which you can access - here!.
In this group section I will be posting up all of our past r/StockMarket weekly stock picking challenge winners and their winning picks this way it is easier for all you guys to keep track of who has won these challenges for that particular week, as well as who participated in that week's challenge and what their picks were for that week and how they did.
Here is the thread that I created if you're interested to see exactly what I mean - click here!
And here we have our r/StockMarket weekly stock picking challenge rules thread. This way I'm not constantly having to re-post those rules on every new challenge thread I create here at r/StockMarket.
So, basically this is how I will be running this:
- I will create the weekly challenge thread for the week here on r/StockMarket with a link to the rules thread on Stockaholics for easy access.
- I will post up the spreadsheet thread link for the weekly challenge with all the contestants and their picks here at r/StockMarket for that week and sticky it to the top of this sub.
- I will post up all of the past weekly challenge winners and their winning picks at Stockaholics for an easy one-stop shop access to all of our past winners.
- Each new post will include a link to that week's challenge spreadsheet, a link to that week's challenge thread, as well as congrats post at r/StockMarket.
I'm going to give this a whirl for a couple of weeks at the very least to see how it rolls. I think it will definitely makes things a bit more easier and much less time consuming for myself. I mean truth be told here but running/updating this challenge every week here at r/StockMarket does take up quite a bit of time & effort.
But, as I said before I know there are a handful of you guys who really enjoy taking part in these weekly challenges so I don't want to just give up on them without giving other options a try first. So, this is one of them.
I would also hope as a courtesy that you guys would also go ahead and simply sign up a handle (preferably your r/StockMarket handle if possible!) at that Stockaholics board as well. And then once you're on there please sign-in to my r/StockMarket roll call thread - here!
Anyway, like I said I'm going to just give this thing a try for a couple of weeks at the very least to see if it helps any with the time that is consumed running this here. I think it definitely will. And if it does indeed help then I will just go ahead and use this new setup from here on out.
Thanks to everyone who has participated on these weekly challenges at one point or another since the inception of this challenge last year and continues to do so this year, and I hope to continue running these for the foreseeable future. If there is ever at any point that I am not able to run a weekly challenge for any particular week I would definitely let you all know in advance.
Looking forward to this new setup. We'll see how it goes.
In the meantime, have at it with your stock picks & rationale for this upcoming short trading week ahead! :)
