If technical analysis doesen't work, what does?

I am new to all of this, and I really don't know if I should learn technical analysis or is it waste of time?

Anyways, even if it is true I guess it works to an extent.

So, besides investing in big stocks for the long term, what else works?

Can I actually make a living with it? I don't get it, a 10% profit a year is great on the investment, so how do people make a living from just that? just having a lot of money to begin with?
