Am I naive to be waiting for a stock market drop before putting money towards an index fund?

I have about 12k in my Roth waiting to purchase FUSVX most likely.

I know I can't time the market..but can I be patient with it?

The fund was $50 in 2007, hit $24 in 2009 and is now sitting at $75. I guess my thought is to wait for a pullback and then throw it all in. Then in 2017 I'll have $5,500 more to buy on additional dips. Thoughts?
