Skimming Algorithms

I have been watch the ticket tape very closely. I have noticed that when stocks go up in a sector a certain percentage then most of the stocks get cut by a small percentage and then there is a sector rotation and stock go up in another sector and then they a cut by a small percentage. How could I tell if there is a algorithm that is skimming. It looks like possibly 2 algorithms at work. Does anyone else see this?

The r/StockMarket Weekly Stock Picking Challenge for the Week of (1/2-1/6) is now OPEN for picks! ***RATIONALE REQUIRED!!***

Welcome to the r/StockMarket Weekly Stock Picking Challenge for the Week of (1/2-1/6)

PLEASE READ THESE RULES THOROUGHLY BEFORE POSTING UP YOUR STOCK PICKS!

If you want to be eligible to participate in this week's challenge here is what you need to do (REQUIRED!):

  • 1.) Post 2 tickers (ex. AAPL = Apple) but YOU MUST pick 2 not just 1 or else I will not add you to our list of contestants!
  • 2.) Choose either Long or Short for each ticker (Obviously LONG - if you think it will go up ... or SHORT - if you think it will go down this week...)
  • 3.) Both of your picks MUST each be at least $2 at the very minimum! If you pick something that is under $2 then you pick will not count, and you will not be entered into this week's challenge!

Challenge Rules (PLEASE READ THESE AND FOLLOW THEM!):

  • 1.) No OTC, ADRs, or Foreign companies.
  • 2.) No Options, Futures, Forex, stuff like that... Equities ONLY that trade on the U.S. Stock Exchange!
  • 3.) If you don't post both the ticker AND the direction (LONG/SHORT) you won't be added to the list of contestants for this week's stock picking challenge!
  • 4.) You cannot duplicate someone's exact play! For example- If someone picks AAPL - Long and BAC - Long first then you can only pick AAPL - Short and BAC - Long or AAPL - Long and BAC - Short <-- you may only duplicate 1 pick but not BOTH! This is a first come, first serve basis here.
  • 5.) Picks absolutely MUST be posted in here before the 9:30AM eastern cash market open on Tuesday morning!
  • 6.) You are only allowed 1 leveraged ETF. If you choose two, the second of the two does not count and is still up for grabs. If incorrect picks go un-noticed, you risk your position being forfeited! (These are the 2x/3x ETF's)
  • 7.) RATIONALE - You MUST post up a rationale (either technical or fundamental) for both of your picks or you will NOT be entered into this week's challenge!
  • 8.) Please DO NOT EDIT your picks!! If you absolutely must choose another pick, please use a separate post and state that you are changing your original pick to something else!
  • 9.) You may choose to close out one or both of your picks at any time during the trading week. PLEASE POST YOUR OWN CLOSING PRICE(S)! We will be using the intraday 1 minute closing price using the time stamp of your post here on r/StockMarket for when you closed out your pick. You need to state which pick(s) you are closing out as well as the price when you closed it out. I will be confirming that your closing price is indeed correct by looking up the 1 min intraday chart. If it is not correct, I will then post up and input the correct price into the live spreadsheet.

I will post up the live challenge spreadsheet a little after the market closes on Tuesday with everyone's posted picks, this will include your opening prices, current prices, P&L, & ROI for each of your picks, as well as an overall total ROI and an overall average ROI between 2 of your picks, and that will be what we will use to total up both of your 2 picks!

Everyone's picks will start at Tuesday's opening prices.

Good luck to everyone in here! Let's see who can deliver the 2 best picks for this week and take bragging rights as the best stock picker of the week here at r/StockMarket! :P

If you have any questions about anything feel free to fire away on this thread...

Hope to see a pretty nice show of participation in here on this very first trading week of 2017 at r/StockMarket! :)

Again please try to get those 2 picks in before the 9:30am eastern cash market open on Tuesday! Ready, set, GO!!!

Have fun all and GLTA in this upcoming trading week ahead! :)

Happy New Year everyone!

If QE is buried in financial products, is the market P/E really as high as it would seem?

Should the theory that QE is residing in paper assets by the investing class (not included in CPI/PPI) be true, then is P/E as high as it would seem to be, along with Market-Cap/GDP?

Indicating a correction may not be due as one might surmise.

Any guide to Fundamental analysis for undervalued stocks selection?

I have recently opened my account for stock trading. I have around $10000 as my capital. i have been researching for last 1 6 months on how to trade stocks. I am good at technical analysis so far. but as far as selection of undervalued stocks is concerned, fundamental analysis is the key to success. although i studied about fundamental analysis and know certain things, but i am unable to develop a proper criterion or methodology for selecting undervalued stocks for maximum gains using fundamental analysis. I need help in developing an accurate criterion. Please help.

How to know when a company will IPO and how to buy as soon as the public can?

Hi:

The direct question: How do I know when the company I'm interested in investing in is going to IPO, and can I use ETrade or Robinhood (or whatever) to purchase that newly IPO'ed company's stock as soon as I possibly can?

The context: I work in IT. I see what technology works and what my peers recommend. We talk when we train with other people from other companies and countries. We talk amongst ourselves about crypto-currency and other neat ways of making money in this still-pretty-infantile age of tech. I've watched a couple companies in the last few years go public, and I was encouraged by their initial success (though one value has tanked considerably since). But what I haven't figured out yet is -- how do I know when XYZ company is going to privately IPO, exactly? And is getting in on the public IPO different than just buying that company's stock the next day? Or, do I have to take some steps to get in on the "public" IPO?

My intention is to invest in stock that I think is going to make a respectable incline when it IPOs. I'm not expecting to get rich. I'm not putting retirement money in. I'll even be a little surprised if my hoped-for outcome happens.

I've learned that getting invited to a private IPO is like getting tickets to the SuperBowl, so I know there's no chance I'm going to be able to get in on the private IPO of any of the companies I'm interested in.

I've googled and I've searched this and the investment forum. There are general "signs" that happen prior to a company's IPO -- I get that. But I don't want to know that. I know this company I'm interested in is probably going to IPO this year and maybe soon. But how the hell do I know exactly when and how do I get in on it as soon as a pleb like me can?
