Stocks to watch for tomorrow!

Hey guys! Sorry I haven't been posting much, I got busy w/ a slew of classes on sun/mon/tuesday and then had a skype session today w/ someone who "won" it through my blog lol. Anyway, just thought I'd check in and give you some picks for tomorrow!!

  • GWPH looks hot for a continuation...it's been pretty nice lately

  • MNKD looks ripe for a bounce

  • WB is an IPO stock that took off today and should continue tomorrow. It is risky though so be careful!

  • AVNR got news of a new patent today and was ripping into the close...it should be in play tomorrow.

  • UPIP is testing highs on the daily and looks strong for a breakout

Also keep an eye on any big tech stocks that have been beaten down...they have been bouncing lately.

For anyone who doesn't know, these are all just ideas for day trades and may or may not be traded...I am not recommending anyone buy these things and hold them, they're just stuff to watch if you're day trading tomorrow. Hope everyone's havin a good week!

Stock Market Noob

If I were to have a lot of money, which I don't. How could I get a quote on how much I could invest/return from a share in a stock company for e.g. Dax.

I've just been pondering over the idea of how to get involved in shares/stocks and would like some more information on the topic in general.

Is /r/StockMarket interested in my bot, /u/stocksBot?

/u/stocksBot was a weekend project of mine, and it can be summoned with the command '$$' immediately followed by the ticker symbol. For an idea, you can view one of it's comments: http://ift.tt/1hRKPhN

If this is something /r/StockMarket is interested in, I would gladly add /r/StockMarket to the list of sub-Reddits my bot will be operating in.

Thanks!

20 years old struggling trader would love an advice on how to stay calm losing money.

So, im 20 and it has been a year since i have been trading. And note, i later understood that i am not investing but trading. I really want to learn investing with the stock market the right way so i can provide my parents a better living, but i am struggling at this point if i should scrap it all. So now im feeling worried.

My family is not rich and had to struggle to get some cash, and since my job is shitty i decided its time to think in a different way. If you want to retire with more capital i figured investing early will give a huge advantage over time. And although i did manage to go up at some point in my portfolio, i am down now. Hardest part in all this is dealing with emotions knowing you lost some money.

I've went through all the mistakes one could imagine - gambling on high flyers and losing money; buying high, selling low chasing a running stock; buying stocks i had no clue about; impatience and selling within days if not hours; having many eggs in one basket, you name it. Starting with just 10% of my money i went in minus having LNKD and other stocks dragging it in june last year, and since then i was up to +11% this march having invested almost all, 90% of my money...and from there i managed to end -5% on my total account (basically down 15% from the top).

Basically for now i understood that i made a common mistake of having too much invested in each egg, and having too much money on the table i am more worried about the sum i lost in total on the account for the day, than understanding how big of a percent it is. I am limited to trading larger US stocks (no pot stocks), some fonds and etfs, although i dont buy etfs as i am not quite into them yet. With this i noticed that my stock trading account went from -10% to 0% to -20% while my funds account went to +20% and now down to 5%. 2013 was a good year and i managed to not rake in a lot during that year, and now i am worried as i see 2014 not being that of a good year and i am already -2-4 monthly salaries or 5% of my total money (-15% from top)

Each time i sell an instance of something it goes up the next day (and i am not joking, that is 90% of time - my friends and relatives say i am unlucky guy) and if it is fonds then once i execute a sell order the funds go down a lot that day and go up the next day. I get a lot of frustration from entry and exit positions and i can't figure out what am i doing wrong. I get angry when i see that after selling a stock at -3% for the day (for me it was -15%) the next day it goes up 8% (if not the next minute). How to deal with this situation? With the emotions? Is it just because i gamble too much money? Cause i know it is possible to do better, but i can't figure out how is it possible to lose on so many decisions.

I am also confused with the fact that fundamental predictions of others are hard to keep track of and it is hard to believe just someone saying buy or sell. I tried various different ways to enter, and in any case i ended up lower...and then i get into this dilemma - some say cut your loses, some say that markets go up and down and that i should keep for long. I see these conflicting ways of handling stocks, but most of all i am even unsure how people keep with investing money and not micromanaging their portfolio? How does one buy linkedin for 200 or higher and leave it off to see it being 140 now. Or if you put a stop loss and it sells/or you sell and then it goes up - how do you deal with that? Can't figure this one out. Thanx to all who can provide an opinion and share some advice. Best of luck to you all!

PS - only thing i am sure now is that funds worked out better for me than stocks, but yet again it was biotech and won a lot and lost a lot.

Can someone explain RSI divergence to me

Up until now I used RSI to look at a stock and when it was below 30, it was a good time to buy, and above 70 it was overbought.

But I am now learning that under 50 means it's bearish, which doesn't quite make sense to me. When I look back on the graph, after the RSI dips to the point <50 it has a reversal and goes up.

I assumed that when the price of a stock is going up, and the RSI is going down, that was a bullish signal because it would be saying that the price is rising with a lot of people selling.

Can someone please explain where my logic is wrong.

Thanks

tl;dr explain the philosophy/psychology behind the RSI divergence

Stocks slip on slide in U.S. growth shares, oil prices fall

(Reuters) - A slide in U.S. growth stocks led global equity markets to retreat on Monday from early gains on merger speculation driven by a bid for AstraZeneca, while crude oil prices fell on increased U.S. sanctions against Russia over the Ukraine crisis.

Nasdaq stocks shed nearly 1 percent in afternoon trading as investors dumped technology shares regardless of whether their first-quarter results were seen as good or not.

Facebook Inc (FB.O) fell 3.82 percent to $55.50, the biggest drag on the Nasdaq composite index. Amazon.com Inc (AMZN.O)fell 4.1 percent to $291.5, while Google Inc (GOOGL.O) fell 2.1 percent to $505.44.

How reliable do you consider "analysts" to be?

How much weight do you put into the opinions of "analysts?" For example, Yahoo/Thompson puts the "price target" of AAPL to be 614 (I only chose AAPL because that seems popular among you guys). There's no way for them to know that for sure, of course, but is there any merit to analyses like this at all?

What happened? Limit order went through despite quoted prices never reaching limit.

I had a bunch of an equity on thursday when it was around $59. I told my broker to sell the equity if it reaches 60. The next day, it immediately fell to $58 so I figured that my limit order wasn't going through any time soon. Then I got an email about my trade confirmation. I checked the account and sure enough I had sold all of my shares at $60.

I checked the chart and none of the peaks on the chart the day the equity sold came even close to 60.

Does anybody know what happened?

This is why you don't swing biotechs on hype

CYTK, a stock that was on my list from a few days ago for a continuation over $10.84, took off and made a nice run to $13ish over a few days. Nice run, about 20% from the call, but I never swing these things overnight because you never know what could happen. This morning they released news that their primary drug failed clinical trials: http://ift.tt/1pymwPR

Stock is now crushed to $5.00. Just like that! POOF!

So be aware when I say be careful on these swing trades and calls that I post. They are RISKY if you're swinging them! Don't buy into hype. Just a word of advice :)

On the other hand, I'll be watching CYTK for shorts today now lol

Hope everyone's having a great week!

Who and who not to listen to on fool's roundtable

So the fool.com team, despite the claims of some, does have some seriously intelligent people on its staff. The hard part is figuring just who they are. I did a study of my own of sorts by looking specifically at the roundtable articles that they post. example

In these articles, fool.com asks their staff which stock they feel will do best that month and why. Some are misses and some are serious hits, so I looked up each contributors picks for the respective month they picked said stock in and paired it with the actual results of the market.

Based on this conclusion, the contributors whose picks consistently get gains are:

-maxx chatsko

-tim beyers

-andres cardenal

-justin loiseau

-anders bylund

-buck hartzell

-isaac pino

-jason hall

-patrick morris

-matt frankel

Those whose stocks have consistently gone in the red for that month:

-brendan mathews

-jim mueller

-daniel ferry

-simon erickson

-matt frankel

-jim gillies

-tamara walsh

Now, I'm not saying that this list is definite or that by listening to these people you will get gains, but if you are looking to add some new stocks to your portfolio and not sure where to start, use these articles and my list as to whose advice is worth listening to.

Stocks I'm watching tomorrow, 4/21/14

Hey hey everyone! Happy Easter for those celebrating, and hope everyone had a nice week! I have a great week hitting about 75% wins overall and finishing nicely in the green trading BIOF, FXEN, WAVX, and other super-momo stocks. My call on BIOF from a couple days ago worked out perfectly...originally alerting around 6 bucks on Tuesday and shooting to a high of $8.50 on Thursday when it finally blew its top. I see this pattern over and over and over again so it's worth it to learn it!

We are still in uncharted territory in the market so I am still scaled back in terms of risk, but I'm at least starting to see some momentum come back into the small cap space which has been missing for quite a while. This could be a good sign that people are starting to put risk back on the table. I still think there is more downside coming but even so the action might be a little better so it will give more opportunities to trade.

Here are some things I'm watching for tomorrow and the upcoming week:

  • BIOF for continuation/consoldation. This should be in play for the next couple days

  • PLUG, FCEL, BLDP should be active this week as there is some news coming out from PLUG and I know there are a lot of people who have their eyes on it.

  • FXEN is still going strong and is nice for intraday plays, though it's getting a bit extended on the daily so I would not be surprised to see it roll over and become a short next week.

  • UPIP is perking out of this long 1 month flag pattern

  • PTX had a nice bounce on Thursday and tends to run for multiple days. I could see this hitting 6-7 bucks next week if momentum keeps up

  • MXWL still coiling in a nice flag pattern. I think this one will be explosive when it finally goes, but not sure if it's quite ready yet. Just watching for now. Over $15 I'll be more interested

  • JAKK made a killer move off my $7.29 swing entry, but now it is time to flip sides! I'm watching it for a short next week sometime.

Hope everyone has a great holiday and best of luck in the upcoming week!

Chris

What are some necessary tools, I will need to purchase?

I finished reading "How to make money in stocks" by William O'neil, and I subscribed to their Investor business daily newspaper. However in the book it talks about comparing previous annual earnings from the last 3 quarters and information regarding if the CEO himself invested in the company stocks. I would like to know what tools would I need to find this information. Or what do you guys prefer to use?

Citigroup Inc (C) news: Citigroup: Buy Before It Gets Expensive

Who buys options right before expiration, to make them worth what they are?

So this might seem like a confusing question, but I think it's a valid one... imagine I buy a 200-Strike Call on SPY. Minutes before expiration, SPY is at 205, making my Call effectively worth $500. Now, imagine that, until expiration, SPY remains locked exactly at 205. My question is, who, during those final minutes and seconds, is willing to give me $500 for that Call?

Certainly, if you held that Call until expiration, you could exercise it by buying 100 shares of SPY at $200 a share and selling them immediately for a total profit of $500... but that would be several transactions, and transactions aren't free, even to brokers. And if transactions aren't free, then the last-second buyer (who I would be selling my contract to) would tack on a fee for performing the dirty work of exercising the option. Additionally, the buyer would want to make a profit for providing this last-second liquidity, correct?

So what I'm asking is, when I go to sell my Call at the last second, is it truly going to be worth $500, or will there be some sort of built-in spread even under ideal conditions? I don't hold options until expiration, so this isn't a big deal for me, but I'm just curious about this, since I never hear it mentioned.

E-Mini Futures trading, am I missing something?

When it comes to the world of e-mini trading. Specially the mini S&P 500, am I missing something? I know that "if it was easy everyone would be doing it"

But what is stopping people from just aiming for very conservative point goals (1-2 points per day) and scaling up the contracts until they're earning all the money in the world? Even just 100 contracts a day at 2 points a day is an income of $2.4 million a year before taxes. What am I missing?

If it helps make your answer brief, I know all the fundamentals i need to know. I understand leverage, I get that risk goes up as the reward potential does. But aiming for 1-2 points a day (which can be made in both directions,) with responsible stop loss settings, and scaling up the contracts over time, why isn't everyone doing it? While it's the most heavily traded future, I don't get why more people don't talk about it.

I'm sorry if this sounds ignorant, there is very limited literature on E-Mini trading online.

Swing trading and day trading books

I have read the Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham, The Bogleheads' Guide to Investing by Taylor Larimore, A Random Walk Down Wall Street by Burton Malkiel, and a few other broad investing books from my local library. However I tend to do more day and swing trading and was wondering if anyone could recommend books more specific to that topic that they found useful.

Waiting for TSLA to drop to about 160, then buying options for Jan 15 strike ~350

Its a gamble, but I feel confident that TSLA will drop a bit throughout the next month or so and then by the Fall will shoot up to about 300. The spread is pretty far apart right now, but with the amount of cash Im aiming to win, it wont really matter.

Opinions?

How do you leverage psychology when evaluating options in the market? It seems to me that psychology is just as important as the math.

I am very curious how psychology plays a role in a traders day to day decision making process. Increasingly, I am realizing I can not rely 100% on math. Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

I suspect gold producers are currently undervalued, how do I find company that will have the best recovery when gold prices inevitably increase?

In February 2013 gold was ~$1,600 and ounce, and I suspect prices will return to these levels at some point within the next 12 months.

The first thing I looked for is major gold producers that lost the most value since February 2013. I found that SBGL is up ~37% over this period, when gold lost a lot of value... Does that mean that SBGL better than HMY because it gained value despite the slump in gold prices? Or is HMY more undervalued than SBGL?

Does anyone know of a better metric to determine how well a given metal producer's market evaluation will change related to metal prices?

A good sign that AMD hasn't had a pre-earnings run up?

From what I gather, AMD has usually had a pre-earnings run up, then a major after hours bleed, and then a plummet at the next open. This has been the case regardless of whether the earnings were positive or not.

The stock has hit 4.00+, but not for the past few weeks. Could the pre-earnings run-up cycle be over? I'm expecting a very positive earnings report, and hoping that the beta will drop significantly.

ELI5 how to purchase online stock

Can someone ELI5 how to purchase stock?

More specifically, if I want to invest $2,000 in a penny stock... What are the fees(average) to place the investment. Does an online trade site like td ameritrade(the only site I know of, very little research) charge you one time when you deposit money in to the stock? A better way of asking the question is, how does the website make money off the investor. Do they use one-time fee to use their site? Do they make money if your investment does well?

If I place $2,000 using a website, and let it sit there for ... 2 years? will it be safe sitting there? Is it like Online Banking, where you get a secure login + pw to access your funds?

Say my investment in a penny stock went up and my 2,000 turned in to 10,000... Can I simply withdrawal my money in to my bank account or are there fees attached to my profit?

I will be doing more research but it's always nice to have specific questions answered that you are most curious about.

Regards

Like to buy the dip? Check out PXLW. I did well with them last week, and they are at a good price ATM

Stock rose to around 9 after the announcement of an apple exec to their board, but sank back down quickly along with other tech stocks the past week.

Given the activity on the stock today, I believe we are near the low end of the stocks price, and it could start I rise as soon as tomorrow. The best part about this stock (IMO) is if you miss on a short term day trade, the chances the price peaks again or at least jumps a dollar or so in the next 90 days or so is decent.

I will post some research resources below.

Want to learn about / get involved in the Stock Market.

Hey,

so I want to involve myself in trading with Shares, but I don't know much about where to trade and how the process is handeld.

Is it possible for me to buy shares internationally, since I live in Europe (either through a site or in person with a banker) and how is the commission set, is it a percentage on the total stocks you purchased, or is there a set fee?

I have a few questions and get constantly more while reading posts on here.

Anyways, I appreciate if you can help me, and possibly stay open if I have any further questions.

Thanks a lot,

I like BIOF, HNR, MXWL, GDP, annnnnd....that's basically it. My scans are dead haha

I finished flat today, small gain yesterday, nice action yesterday but still a lot of winners are coming back so aggressive targets are not really hitting. Need a big fat bull market to get those but I am still staying aggressive rather than wussing out and selling for 1R or 2R because in a big bull market that habit will be very profitable, and it's easier to become less aggressive than more aggressive!

Anyway, just some ideas for tomorrow. Have a good one y'all!

Can someone explain why I didnt make money here?

Yesterday I bought 5 contracts of PLUG @ 7.60 with a 7.00 PUT for may 17. With the 12 dollars in fees yesterday when I bought it it came to 1114.xx. As soon as I bought it they valued the option at 950. So the bid and the ask on the option was 10 cents off which im not sure if thats normal but okay. So today plug tanks and I go to sell it at 6.90 and I end up profiting 50 bucks before the fees. I'm a new trader obviously but for the risk i was taking this profit seems a bit low to me for such an amazing call

Small Biotech Out Of Favor But Smart Buys Can Pay Off

The deep freeze has taken over small cap land. It has been a long time since small caps were out of vogue but the time has come. As the great rotation of capital shifts from high risk stocks to low risk, high dividend payers, many think the end has come for any investments in small caps. I am here to say that is not true. Over the past year, you could have closed your eyes and thrown a dart at a small cap and made a lot of money. Those times have changed, however there is still money to be made.

You must now start analyzing the charts and buy at the key levels. For example, on no news, Rosetta Genomics Ltd. (NASDAQ:ROSG) has fallen from over $6.50 to $3.45. This monster drop is now crossing the 200 moving average and heading to gap fill at $3.20. This $3.20 level will be where the stock price has been cut in half as well as major support. At this discount, the stock becomes extremely attractive to tuck away a small position.

Another biotech stock approaching a key level is OXiGENE Inc (NASDAQ:OXGN). Good news drove it to $5.40, however the risk adverse market has taken it down to $2.59. There is a key gap fill at $2.43 that offers a very intriguing risk to reward opportunity.

Always remember small cap stocks are very high risk. Most likely the way to trade these plays is to be in, get a solid bounce and take profits.

Stocks I'm watching tomorrow, 4/14/14!

Yo yo! Here's a quick update of my trading from the last week or so! I finished down a little bit (about 200 bucks, I know I know I suck!) for the week and once again I didn't really do much trading. The key in this environment is capital preservation as there are many months left in the year to make bank! There were some good short opportunities the last few days but I didn't have shares of a lot of stuff so I was just kinda hanging out again. Anyway, I think the market is starting to pick a direction now and there is some more volatility intraday so I have high hopes for the coming weeks. I am starting to become slightly bearish overall as there is a lot of pullback in the tech/biotech sector and these sectors are often an indicator of RISK as people tend not to invest in risky new-tech companies or biotech/pharma stuff when there is a lot of uncertainty. So, when people start pulling out of them, the market starts going down and people move into assets like gold and silver it's usually an indication that people are going to be a little bit squeamish for a while and that can lead to pullbacks. I don't see anything drastic happening and I am not screaming "OMGz 50% correction!1!!!" or anything but I am definitely not as bullish now. Once we get back over $190 SPY, I will become more bullish again.

That being said, I picked a couple things to watch tomorrow and will continue to watch intraday movers and "super-momo" stocks like BIOF, PTX, ARTX, MXWL, ISR, VIMC, UQM etc for intraday plays.

  • PLUG on watch over $7.40s for a breakout. Also watch BLDP and FCEL to follow in sympathy if plug breaks out.

  • ORMP on watch over $14 for a bounce.

  • ARWR on watch for a short continuation under $12.84...it has downside to mid-low 11s probably.

Hope everyone has a great week!

Chris

NASDAQ:HCT - Odd-Lot Provision in its Tender Offer

That’s right! Free money awarded to those that keep their ear on the pavement and can spot these opportunities as they arise! NASDAQ:HCT – known as American Realty Capital Healthcare Trust is placing a tender offer (with an odd lot provision) on its shares at $11. When reviewing tender offers one needs to carefully read the provisions section. This area highlights the rules and regulations of this tender offer and how an investor should educate themselves on the situation.

How can an Investor capture the Returns? After reviewing the odd lot cutoff number (in this case 100 shares) an investor can then go to the market: (NASDAQ:HCT) on Yahoo Finance or (NASDAQ:HCT) Google Finance and purchase a MINIMUM of 1 share less than the odd lot cap. In this example of HCT: purchase 99 shares or less.

Duration of the Investment After making your purchase, your broker will send you your odd-lot voting rights. You would choose the ballot option: tender my shares at $11. After the withdrawal period (May 2nd 2014), HCT will tally all the votes and make begin the share tendering process (this should take about up to 10 business days to settle in your account. Please note that HCT has a cap of 13.6m shares it can tender, and will start by buying out all odd lot holdings. Just be cognizant in future situations that there is an importance on who gets tender offered first and the maximum shares the company can buy.

Do I really make 7.5% in one month? Lets say you purchased 99 shares today at $10.10 per share and the transaction settles in your account on May 9th (being one month from today). Well your investment of (99 shares*$10.10)= $999.90 + a $9.95 broker fee brings the total cost to: $1009.85. On May 9th you receive back: (99 shares * $11.00)= $1089.00 This makes your gains: ($1089.00 – $1009.85) = $79.15.

Divide that by your original investment to obtain your ROI: ($79.15/$1009.85)= 7.95% Pretty easy and stress free way to make 7.5% in one month…if you could find one of these every month and replicate it, that would make an annualized yield of 90%.

Some other things that are notable about NASDAQ:HCT Chairman: Nicholas Schorsch

ARC Healthcare is “a little more nimble, a little more focused,” than the largest health care REITs, according to Nicholas Schorsch, executive chairman of ARC Healthcare’s board of directors. At the same time, about 63 percent of its tenancies have investment-grade ratings, which the company estimates to be about double that of its nearest peer.

Schorsch said he anticipates that ARC Healthcare could eventually fall somewhere between the midsize health care REITs that hold $2 to $3 billion in assets and the largest health care REITs that own around $30 billion in assets. As of now, the company has an enterprise value of about $3 billion.

“I don’t think there’s a limitation as to what size we want to be, but we want to own assets we believe will perform well for decades to come,” Schorsch said.

HCT CEO: Tom D’Arcy “We have strong capitalization, a very focused strategy and (we are) a proven acquirer of high-quality assets. We feel really good about our ability to grow our company on an external basis,” HCT CEO Tom D’Arcy

Advice from Kunal Desai, CEO of Bulls on Wall Street and dear friend of mine!

Kunal is a good friend of mine and I have traded side by side w/ him a bunch of times. I just went to check out what he was trading today and noticed this in his chat room:

kunal00 (9:25am)new traders.... please sit and watch.. this is a deadly envirnoment.. dont let my excitement suck you in.., first learn and then trade..we have all year to make big bucks

I just thought it was worth sharing since I know there are a lot of newer traders here also. Be careful out there! If people like Kunal who make $5-10k in a day are talking like this we would be stupid not to heed their advice! I personally am scaled back hardcore right now and will not scale up again until we are above $190 or pick a direction on the SPY

Stocks I'm watching tomorrow, 4/8/14!

Ok, not really...since there is nothing to watch, lol. I had an ok day w/ a 50% win rate and 70 bucks in gains. Not bad for trading on $30 risk per trade and only trading half the day...haha - can't wait til we get a better trend so I can add some more risk but in the mean time capital preservation and small gains are my number one priority! Remember we only need 1-2 good months to make the entire year so I am in no rush! I just have a couple things on my list for tomorrow aside from the stuff I pointed out yesterday:

  • VTNR on watch for intraday longs as it is the only thing I can find that still have a ton of momentum

  • RDNT on watch fro a parabolic short

Still watching the "super momo" stocks like ISR, BIOF ARTX, UQM, VIMC etc for intraday plays but as you've seen most of my gains will come from intraday movers (today my big one (well, relatively, lol) was MNK on news that they bought out QCOR)

Anyway, hope everyone has a good Tuesday! If y'all see anything worth watching let me know!

Chris

DISCLAIMER: I am a day/swing trader. LONG means I'm expecting price to go up, not that it's a long term trade. SHORT means I'm expecting price to go down, not that it's a short term trade. Just because I post these here does not necessarily mean I'm buying/shorting them. They are ONLY ideas, may not be traded at all, and if I do take them, 99% of the positions will be closed by the end of the day. One other thing...any swing recommendations should be taken w/ extreme caution - lock in some profits as I am not checking these to see if they have earnings or anything before posting, so if they do they could make crazy moves. Do your own DD on them. If ya have any questions, feel free to ask below and as always, share your ideas too. The more the merrier!

Western Lithium

I've heard of this new plant Teslas building. I know Teslas been doing well, and that they're with Panasonic. I also know that the majority supplier for Tesla batteries right now is Western Lithium. They're somewhere around ¢.70 a share right now. Thinking about making a move. Any thoughts?
