Where do you buy your stocks?

I've been looking into buying my stocks on Scottrade (never bought stocks before). One of their catches, as I'm sure a lot of you are aware, you must first deposit $2500 into your account before you can start buying. I'm freshly out of college and don't necessarily have $2500 to drop into this account. I've been watching a stock for the past two years and I'm ready to make my move on it. Does anyone have any advice on other places to buy stocks without depositing so much into your account? And what exactly is the point of having that much in your account to begin with? Thanks in advance!

Interesting perspective on a rate hike I think I may agree with

Guest on CNBC from Cowen & Co saying that a rate hike will actually rally the market.

This is the exact opposite from popular opinion, which is why think its probably right!

Everybody fearing a Fed move to raise rates will get things spiraling lower, but guy is taking the opposite side and saying that a Fed rate hike will finally put the anticipation to rest and that the US economy is in pretty good shape, so a rate hike is not only overdue, but needed.

What are your thoughts?

FREE Q&A tonight 8/29/15, 7pm EST on my ticket.TV channel!

Hey y'all I'm gonna do a free q&a thing tonight at 7pm! Bring questions about getting started in trading, charts, trade ideas, whatever you want! Only rule is if you want to know my thoughts about a particular chart you have to tell me your idea on it first (i.e. dont just ask me "what are your thoughts on AAPL?") ... better question is what do you think of buying AAPL at $x price with a stop loss here and a target here within a certain timeframe.

Hope to see everyone there! It will be recorded if you miss it...link will be on my tickertv channel.

Helping each other find great swing opportunities

Hey everyone,

At the moment I have a limited bankroll of $2,000 and I'm struggling making consistent profit in day trading, so I thought maybe for now focus on swing trading and with time get my bankroll higher with the swing.

I was thinking, is it possible we help each other find good swing opportunities? Are there discussions here are swing trading and suggestions on stocks and positions you find?

I know you'll say $2,000 is a joke, but it is possible to risk a little and with time get the bankroll higher I think.

Thank you all!

How often would this strategy have been a better move than doing nothing at all based on the S&P 500?

Here's the strategy:

1) Buy in at any historical time you want and hold it until it drops 10% from the highest point it reaches after you buy in.

2) Sell all.

3) Buy back in when it increases 10% from the lowest point it reached after you sold it.

If you did this each time it occurred in the S&P 500, how many times would it have been a better move than doing nothing at all, in say like the last 40 years? Does anyone have any software or tool that can quickly answer that question?

What do y'all think about this strategy?

Swing trading $SUNE; what could I have done better? Or did I do alright?

TL;DR: Please see $SUNE 5-day chart. Notice the low of $8.25 Wednesday and close at $9.25. I wanted to see it after opening Thursday and it continued to climb from open @ $9.80 to $10.20. Sometime before it went high I bought in at $9.89. Today's (Friday's) high was $11. My stop limit sold at $10.66 after hitting the high and dipping to $10.30 as of right now. Profit = $.77 / share. What would you have done? Would you have held out for the fourth day / until you have the funds in your account again, or simply hoped for a bigger gain tomorrow? Would you exercise options? Would you have purchased the contract / shares in advance if you had traded options? If you were me, how would you have conducted this trade or invested in this company?

LONG VERSION, SAME QUESTIONS: Hi everybody. I only recently started investing but I've gotten to the point where I believe I'm past the uphill learning curve.

This question is inspired by the AMA with u/TheFadedBull from (I think) yesterday. I feel pretty good about the trade I made and profits taken, but I want to hear from the community here what you would have done. There is a lot of language being thrown around in the options realm that I'm only vaguely familiar with, and I don't know what else I don't know. If there's something better than what I'm doing, of course I want to know what that could be. So if anybody would indulge me please, I'll throw out what info I saw from Wednesday to today and what I did with it; would you tell me what you might have considered in the same situation?

Obviously, the market hasn't been so wonderful in August. I have liked $SUNE as a company with long-term potential, but this month it dropped from the highest it's been in 5 years to the lowest it's been since 2013. On a 5-day chart you can see it drop sharp after opening Wednesday, and it climbed well over 10% from that point and continued to climb in after hours.

Thursday, the open was significantly higher than the Wednesday's close. Early traffic showed that $SUNE was climbing until as late as 10:15 which is about the time I bought in. Prices climbed to almost the point where I would have accepted my minimum ROI and put in a stop limit, but they were about $.05 shy. Then they went to my purchase price, stayed level, dipped, and closed around the day's high.

Today/Friday. Pre-market goes as high as $.30 above Thursday's close, but opens at previous close. Climbs until almost noon, then falls back to about the open. As the price hit my minimum "Good enough for me" price I set a stop limit, then moved it up to $10.66 while shares were trading around $10.75. Shares went to $11 (I might have moved the stop limit again but I didn't register this move), then they fell and I sold at above my 5% expected return.

So, that's what I did. What would you have done? Could I have done significantly better, or should I be perfectly content?

What Im trading today

I am focusing on two tickers today, possibly three.

PCLN

NFLX

TSLA

My plan is to see if we fade at open to that level from yesterday where we faded, only to be bought back before the bell. Also keep an eye on 197.50 on SPY from premkt levels as well.

If we fade down there, I will be looking to get long on a rebound.
NFLX 118 calls (expiring today)

PCLN 1240 calls (expiring today, dont need a lot, and they are $$)

TSLA 240 calls (expiring today)

If we dont catch that rebound, I will reevaluate my plan. If that level from yesterday doesnt hold, look for weds close to be next, if thats the case, I will be getting some puts for a very quick ride.

Stock Market Dive

Everybody seems to be concentrating on maintaining or increasing the value of the stock market by increasing investor confidence and getting them to invest more into the market. The thing is, all the money going into the stock market goes into creating things for consumers to use. Most consumers are either too poor, too comfortable or too debt-ridden to buy a lot of the stuff being made by companies backed by the stock market. No customers means nobody buys the stuff made by the companies means the stuff and the companies themselves lose value on the marketplace. This is the opposite direction investors are hoping to move towards, and so they rightfully bail. Too much focus is on the creation side and not enough on the consumption side. When consumption requires taking on more debt there is little chance that consumption will dramatically increase. Without that increase in consumption companies lose value and investors lose money.

Morning Watchlist 8/26/15

Hey guys, first watchlist im putting up for this sub. I trade mostly weekly options so thats what this list will focus on. I am not in the business of predicting moves, I am in the business of capitalizing on the moves that happen. So for this list, I will have both calls and puts being mentioned on the same stock. Who knows where this market will head at open today. I can most certainly see us fading down to mondays close before heading back up again, but take that with a grain of salt.

$AAPL 107 calls or 105 puts. Im leaning towards puts here, at least for the open. 106.15ish can be a problem so well keep an eye on that. Like i said, we could be fading to mondays close whn the bell rings so ride them down there, and reevaluate the trade. On the upside is 107.50- 108 http://ift.tt/1NU3sni

$PCLN 1220 calls or 1180 puts hard beast to tame, but she pays well. 1220 has been a wall, not just this week but in the past as well. I cant tell where this one will open as it rarely has any vol in premkt so it could gap up $15 out of nowhere at the bell. I suspect 1210 or around there. Looking at 1220 calls to ride to that wall, and hope for a break over if things go our way. If we fade at open, look for the 1180 puts. These are expensive options, so dont grab a huge postion. 5-10 will do just fine as they move so much http://ift.tt/1K1tyXU

$CMG 720 calls or 685 puts I typically hate shorting the guac, but in this environment i just want to make some money. The strikes here are a bit further out than the others as it likes to gap at open as well. Lower liquidity than the other names listed so spreads could be an issue. 720 has been keeping it down and 685 is support from the last year. be careful with this one http://ift.tt/1NU3uLJ

$TSLA 230 calls or 220 puts I have so many support/resistance lines on this one as I have traded it heavily in the past. 230 has been keeping us down this week and 220 is mondays close. As with the others, wait for the morning shake out before deciding to enter http://ift.tt/1K1tB5Q

Keep an eye on SPY and /ES for the direction well be heading this morning. Dont rush any of these. Also, its to be noted that PUTS are priced much higher than calls as we stand right now. You can do the same thing Ive just done with just about any stock. Look for the the next strike out on the upside or the downside, then look for some possible levels that have been a factor as of late. AMZN, NFLX, GOOG any of those will work just as well. These guys move so much that the options get such a nice net change. 5-10 contracts each is ideal.

Any question or comments, please let me know. Also, keep in mind this was written between 8-830 this morning so theres an hour before the bell so there could be some moves before the bell. in that case, just switch up the strikes to fit accordingly. You want the next stirke otm or a few out for calls or the next strike itm for puts.

thanks and stay profitable

Please welcome two new mods to r/stockmarket!

We have two new mods joining the team today, they are u/TheFadedBull and u/motor_city !

These two fine young gentlemen are long time members of r/stockmarket. They enjoy walks on the beach, reading Twilight novels and baking cupcakes.

They also have a lot of trading experience in the market which is pretty damn important now that we are being hit with this kind of volatility!

Welcome u/TheFadedBull and u/motor_city, we look forward to seeing you both around a lot more!

Oil is lower than 2008/2009 crash. Why is gas still $2.50-$3.50 per gallon?

The price of oil is sitting around $40, which isn't as low as the mid-90s, but is lower than the 2008/2009 recession. Why am I still paying $2.50-$3.50 at the pump for a gallon of gas? Shouldn't it be like $1.50-$2.50. This isn't a yesterday thing, Its been falling since winter.

Don't trade just to trade

Moves like this only come along every few years, and you most likely want a piece of the action. It's very doable, but sometimes sitting on the sidelines and observing is your best bet. Sure you can go have a pint, and wait till this all blows over but that won't help you next time we have an environment like this.

We all have our different trading styles and strategies so I can't tell you what to do or not to do, but even if you aren't trading, you should at least watch and learn.

Cash by close is your best bet if you day trade like me. The only things I've been holding overnight have been SPX and NDX call spreads from last thursday.

Today was a quick AMZN scalp within the first 30 mins, some 480 puts for +$2 on 10 contracts. I also entered some PCLN 1200 puts up here at 1220. Ill be out of those by the end of the day, win or lose.

Stick to your trading style and learn a few things in this crazy market. If this suits your style, go get em. If not, sit back and learn.

Stay profitable

edit: and it looks like its going to be a win on those PCLN puts. 5 contracts from $13.80 out at $17.25

Wanted to see your thoughts. No reason but for brainstorming. Seems like we could be on the verge of the end of this bull run. I'm thinking we'll drop to 1500 on the S&P and 9000 on the Dow at the most. What do you think?

Why can't individual investors buy at low prices during a crash?

It seems like whenever there is a giant drop like this morning I log onto my brokerage firm to buy more shares but the thing is clogged up. So when the order finally does go through the price per share is back up to before the drop.

So... who is able to buy at the very bottom and why can't individuals do that?

If i have my 401k investments in say a mutual fund like the ContraFund Class K ... would it be smart to sell and go to Cash Reserve until this calms down then jump back in when the price is low and my money can buy more? Teenage Swing Trading-Have Some Questions

So I have been planning this for a while and I just want some advise. I have about $1k in play money. I am looking to make money off penny stocks that are trading at around 13 to 20 cents. The stocks I have been monitoring usually fluctuate around 2 to 4 cents everyday. I am thinking of just catching the stock at the low end swing and putting in a sell order so that once it reaches its high swing for the day it will be sold automatically. This will net me around $50-$100 if I buy around $500 worth of x stock depending on the variables. Might be chump change to some of you in here but it's good money for me. I will be doing this on Robinhood as well since there aren't any fees. Then while that first sell order funds are settling, just repeating the process with the other $500.

Gap day trading - Trading the gap after a pullback, anyone here?

Hello,

I've been day trading stocks for a while and my main focus now is trading stocks that open with a big gap.

I wait for the pullback and above the reversal candle, I look to enter with the main trend (gap direction),

Anyone here uses this simple/basic strategy and can put some light on it, maybe some tips, discuss it with me, where he looks for the stocks, is there a specific setup you're looking for, etc'...

Thank you all!

SPY Monthly Chart - A "correction" is NORMAL here

Before everyone starts freaking out, this is a NATURAL process of the market cycle. We go up for several years, digest for a while, then go down for a bit, then digest again, then go up again. It's called a trend.

The logical place for SPY to go after retesting the recent breakdown spot would probably be $180ish (October 2014 lows). A strong selloff would put SPY probably around $165.The former would be a healthy correction, the latter a bit concerning but still relatively normal. So no I do not advocate "BTFD" here since we now have all four major indices (DIA, QQQ, IWM, SPY) below their 200 day moving averages as well as a number of potentially bearish news items on the horizon. This is a bit different than a dip down to the trendline like we saw for most of 2013 and 2014. I also am not saying panic/run away/sell all the things etc.

The correct thing to do here is wait. Next week we likely have some digestion since we dropped 5-6% this week, so we should see some rebound, but until the major indices reclaim and HOLD their 200 day moving averages I am not convinced the digestion/bearishness is over. I mean, it's not even really bearish right now. We've been going up for 6.5 years. It's time for a little rest. Don't freak out. Protect yourself with some put options or maybe lighten up on stuff that has had a nice run, and prepare to buy more after we see whether the market will continue down toward $180 or bounce hard like we did in October. I am all cash in my trading accounts, but still 100% invested in my long term accounts with no plans to change that. If there is a nasty selloff to $165 I will load the boat in the long term accounts with strong companies that have sold off due to emotion. If we bounce from here I will just hold what I have. My trading accounts I'll continue to trade like always. I'm shorting more during the day or playing inverse ETFs long on weak days so there is still plenty of opportunity to capitalize.

Anyway just my .02. Random ramblings. Take it or leave it

ELI5: Is it worth investing in insurance companies in light of the Ashley Madison incident?

Some people are predicting that divorce firms are going earn lots of revenue due to the huge number of cheaters being potentially exposed after Ashley Madison hacking. The bad news for investors is that law firms cannot be publicly traded. However, could insurance companies also see a change in valuation?

I ask this because divorces and lawsuits often go hand-in-hand, and insurance firms that offer divorce and/or legal insurance could potentially see lots of new customers. But at the same time, I could also see how such firms could lose revenue due to the insurance payouts, in which case shorting could be beneficial.

I reckon it would also be worth buying stocks of companies that offer dating services due to large number of soon-to-be single people. :-)

Thoughts?

Do you think Apple and Disney will make it back to $120 per share?

Their has been a massive selloff this week and share prices have been dropping. My question is, when do you think Apple and Disney will make it back to $120 per share?

Do you think Apple gets back to the $120 per share range after the new iPhone release or will it not happen until after they announce their next quarterly results (with the assumption that they meet/beat expectations)?

When does Disney make it back to $120? I have a feeling it won't be until November at the earliest. Hopefully Star Wars isn't a bust and hopefully Star Wars can match/eclipse the success of Frozen.

Right now their PE ratios are around 20-30, which is IMO is not great, but not horrible for growth stocks. They are well diversified and some hold international holdings. Downside is that expense ratio is a little high for my liking.

Could anybody answer a few general question about trading for a hopeful day trader?

My goal is to be a day trader of equities & forex, but I've been getting some mixed info while practicing. Would love to get the most realistic practice I can.

  • What sort of rules/restrictions are there for equity trading? I seem to remember I read a long time ago that you couldn't short an already falling stock, but now that doesn't seem to make sense. Same question about rules/regulation of Forex trading.

  • What's the typical time for equity orders to be filled, and what's the typical commission for entering and exiting a trade? Investopedia does a 20min wait for orders (open and close both), TradingView is instant. Investopedia charges $19.99 commission for entry then again for exit, TradingView doesn't factor in any commission.

  • Are there any restrictions on the frequency at which I can trade equities? For example, I shorted AAPL at around 10:30am EST, closed that position with ~$340 profit less than 40min later. If this wasn't with fake money on TradingView, would I even be permitted to close that position, or would I be violating some regulations?

Thanks for any help!

10 Companies Benjamin Graham Would Invest In Today - August 2015

Out of the multitude of companies, which ones would legendary value investor Benjamin Graham buy today? I've compiled ten great companies that fit the ModernGraham criteria, based on Benjamin Graham's methods.

The companies in this list pass the rigorous requirements of either the Defensive Investor or the Enterprising Investor and are undervalued by the market.

Here are the ten companies Benjamin Graham would invest in today:

Denbury Resources Inc. (DNR)

Denbury Resources Inc. qualifies for the Enterprising Investor but not the more conservative Defensive Investor. The Defensive Investor is concerned with the company size, insufficient earnings growth or stability over the last ten years along with the short dividend history. The Enterprising Investor is concerned with the level of debt relative to the net current assets. As a result, all Enterprising Investors following the ModernGraham approach based on Benjamin Graham's methods should feel comfortable proceeding with the evaluation.

As for a valuation, the company appears to be undervalued after growing its EPSmg (normalized earnings) from $0.88 in 2011 to an estimated $1.05 for 2015. This level of demonstrated earnings growth surpasses the market's implied estimate of 2.58% annual earnings decline over the next 7-10 years. As a result, the ModernGraham valuation model, based on Benjamin Graham's formula, returns an estimate of intrinsic value above the price.

Ford Motor Company (F)

Ford Motor Company performs well in the ModernGraham model and is suitable for Enterprising Investors. The Defensive Investor is concerned with the inconsistent dividend record and the lack of earnings stability over the last ten years, while the Enterprising Investor has no initial concerns. As a result, Enterprising Investors should feel very comfortable proceeding to the next part of the analysis, which is a determination of the company's intrinsic value.

When it comes to valuation, it is critical to consider the company's earnings history. In this case, the company has grown its EPSmg (normalized earnings) from $1.30 in 2011 to an estimated $1.55 for 2015. Even though this is not a very high level of growth, it is well above the market's implied estimate of only 0.69% annual earnings growth over the next 7-10 years.

Here, actual growth in EPSmg over the last several years has averaged 3.8% annually, so the market is expecting a very significant drop in earnings growth. The ModernGraham valuation model reduces the historical growth to a more conservative figure, assuming that some slowdown will occur, but still estimates a growth figure much higher than the market's implied rate. Therefore, the model returns an estimate of intrinsic value well above the current price, indicating the company is significantly undervalued at the present time.

Fossil Group (FOSL)

Fossil Group performs well in the ModernGraham model and is suitable for both Defensive and Enterprising Investors. Both investor types are only initially concerned by the lack of dividend payments. As a result, all value investors should feel very comfortable proceeding to the next part of the analysis, which is a determination of the company's intrinsic value.

When it comes to valuation, it is critical to consider the company's earnings history. In this case, the company has grown its EPSmg (normalized earnings) from $1.68 in 2011 to an estimated $6.01 for 2015. This is a strong level of growth and is well above the market's implied estimate of only 1.68% annual earnings growth over the next 7-10 years.

Here, actual growth in EPSmg over the last several years has averaged nearly 16% annually, so the market is expecting a very significant drop in earnings growth.

Helmerich & Payne (HP)

Helmerich & Payne Inc. is suitable for both the Defensive Investor and the Enterprising Investor. The company passes all of the requirements of each investor type, which is a rare accomplishment indicative of the company's strong financial position. As a result, value investors following the ModernGraham approach based on Benjamin Graham's methods should feel very comfortable proceeding with further research and comparing the company to other opportunities.

From a valuation side of things, the company appears to be undervalued after growing its EPSmg (normalized earnings) from $3.24 in 2011 to an estimated $5.11 for 2015. This level of demonstrated growth outpaces the market's implied estimate of 2.97% annual earnings growth over the next 7-10 years and leads the ModernGraham valuation model, based on Benjamin Graham's formula, to return an estimate of intrinsic value well above the price.

Lincoln National Corporation (LNC)

Lincoln National Corporation passes the initial requirements of the Enterprising Investor, but not the more conservative Defensive Investor. The Defensive Investor is concerned by the company's lack of earnings stability over the last ten years. The Enterprising Investor has no initial concerns. As a result, all Enterprising Investors should feel very comfortable proceeding to the next part of the analysis, which is a determination of the company's intrinsic value.

When it comes to that valuation, it is critical to consider the company's earnings history. In this case, it has grown its EPSmg (normalized earnings) from $0.80 in 2011 to an estimated $5.01 for 2015. This is a very strong level of demonstrated growth, which is well above the market's implied estimate for annual earnings growth of 1.59% over the next 7-10 years.

In recent years, the company's actual growth in EPSmg has been astronomical, and while the ModernGraham valuation model reduces the actual growth to a more conservative figure when making an estimate, the model still returns an estimate of intrinsic value well above the current price, indicating that the company is undervalued at the present time.

People's United Financial (PBCT)

People's United Financial Inc. qualifies for both the Defensive Investor and the Enterprising Investor. In fact, the company passes all of the requirements of both investor types, indicating it is in a very strong financial position. As a result, all value investors following the ModernGraham approach based on Benjamin Graham's methods should feel comfortable proceeding with further research into the company and comparing it to other opportunities.

As for a valuation, the company appears undervalued after growing its EPSmg (normalized earnings) from $0.40 in 2011 to an estimated $0.78 for 2015. This level of demonstrated growth outpaces the market's implied estimate of 5.62% earnings growth and leads the ModernGraham valuation model, which is based on Benjamin Graham's formula, to return an estimate of intrinsic value above the market price.

Seagate Technology (STX)

Seagate Technology is suitable for the Enterprising Investor but not the Defensive Investor. The Defensive Investor is concerned by the low current ratio, lack of earnings stability over the last ten years, inconsistent dividend record, and the high PB ratio. The Enterprising Investor is only concerned with the level of debt relative to the net current assets. As a result, all Enterprising Investors following the ModernGraham approach based on Benjamin Graham's methods should feel very comfortable proceeding with further research and comparing the company to other opportunities.

From a valuation side of things, the company appears to be undervalued after growing its EPSmg (normalized earnings) from $0.34 in 2011 to an estimated $5.01 for 2015. This level of demonstrated growth outpaces the market's implied estimate of 1.26% annual earnings growth over the next 7-10 years and leads the ModernGraham valuation model, based on Benjamin Graham's formula, to return an estimate of intrinsic value well above the price.

Starwood Property Trust (STWD)

Starwood Property Trust Inc. qualifies for the Enterprising Investor but not the Defensive Investor. The Defensive Investor is concerned by the short history as a publicly traded company, while the company passes all of the Enterprising Investor's requirements. As a result, Enterprising Investors following the ModernGraham approach based on Benjamin Graham's methods should feel comfortable proceeding with further research into the company and comparing it to other opportunities.

As for a valuation, the company appears undervalued after growing its EPSmg (normalized earnings) from $0.76 in 2011 to an estimated $1.98 for 2015. This level of demonstrated growth is greater than the market's implied estimate of 1.18% earnings growth and leads the ModernGraham valuation model, which is based on Benjamin Graham's formula, to return an estimate of intrinsic value above the market price.

Tegna Inc. (TGNA)

Tegna Inc. qualifies for the Enterprising Investor but not the more conservative Defensive Investor. The Defensive Investor is concerned with the insufficient earnings growth or stability over the last ten years along with the low current ratio. The Enterprising Investor is concerned with the level of debt relative to the net current assets. As a result, all Enterprising Investors following the ModernGraham approach based on Benjamin Graham's methods should feel comfortable proceeding with the evaluation.

As for a valuation, the company appears to be undervalued after growing its EPSmg (normalized earnings) from a loss of $2.00 in 2011 to an estimated gain of $2.50 for 2015. This level of demonstrated earnings growth surpasses the market's implied estimate of 1.06% annual earnings growth over the next 7-10 years. As a result, the ModernGraham valuation model, based on Benjamin Graham's formula, returns an estimate of intrinsic value above the price.

Twenty-First Century Fox (FOXA)

Twenty-First Century Fox is not suitable for Defensive Investors but it does pass the initial requirements of the Enterprising Investor. The Defensive Investor is concerned with the insufficient earnings stability over the last ten years, and the high PB ratio, while the Enterprising Investor's only concern is the level of debt relative to the net current assets. As a result, all Enterprising Investors should feel very comfortable proceeding to the next part of the analysis, which is a determination of the company's intrinsic value.

When it comes to that valuation, it is critical to consider the company's earnings history. In this case, it has grown its EPSmg (normalized earnings) from $0.66 in 2011 to an estimated $2.64 for 2015. This is a fairly strong level of demonstrated growth, and outpaces the market's implied estimate for annual earnings growth of 2.11% over the next 7-10 years.

In recent years, the company's actual growth in EPSmg has averaged nearly 60% annually, and while the ModernGraham valuation model reduces the actual growth to a more conservative figure when making an estimate, the model still returns an estimate of intrinsic value well above the current price, indicating that Twenty-First Century Fox is significantly undervalued at the present time.

Valuing the Apple Watch: Can It Really Be Worth $140 Billion?

Abstract:

The Apple Watch does not currently seem like an overwhelming success. In fact, many analysts are quick to disregard the product entirely, with one deeming it a "'Newton-Like' Failure" (Source: Inc.com). However, the parallels between the Apple Watch and the Apple iPad are undeniable, and I suspect foretell of a revolutionary product line. In this article, I value the Apple Watch as a product by dissecting Apple's sales progress thus far, and laying out my expectations for the Apple Watch going forward.

So what do you all think - can the Apple Watch really be worth $140 Billion?

OMER +65% pop, biopharma rocket of the day

Seems like there has been a mad dash into almost anything biotech lately.

Today OMER had its move, +65% as of 2pm.

According to the company, OMS721 has completed its mid-dose testing and is nearing the end of the high-dose phase of the treatment's mid-stage trial as well. What sent shares soaring, though, was the announcement that two patients in the mid-dose group with plasma therapy-resistant aHUS demonstrated clinically meaningful improvements in several areas, such as mean platelet count, mean schistocyte count, mean haptoglobin, and mean levels of LDH. The first patient to complete the high dose regimen of OMS721 showed a marked improvement in several biomarkers as well.

Did I get shafted? I'm a little confused and any help would be appreciated (company/stock split)

I bought 10 shares of Kimberly-Clark at $108 a share awhile back and a short time later their medical branch broke off (or was sold off) and became Halyard Health.

it automatically gave me 1 share of Halyard Health and from one day to the next I was down $850 on my account without me moving a cent. I have TD Ameritrade and it shows gain/loss on each company I have and that 1 share has always been -$850 in the red more or less since I've had it. So what happened? Did I get shafted by Kimberly-Clark or is this something I'm just ignorantly unaware of? Right now it's trading at $33

Why does exchanges get quote updates from another exchange when the stock isnt listed on both?

This question might be pretty obvious, and I looking forward to the explanation.

The HFT's got an edge, because their processing power and speed is superior the exchanges.

But the thing i dont get is, why does fx. NYSE have to update NASDAQ with quote updates in the first place? Many stocks isnt cross listed, so whats the point?

I get that its important to deliver the NBBO, but if the stock isnt listed on a specific exchange, then whats the point sending quote information to it.

One of my individual stocks has CRASHED--what should I do?

a stock I bought a year ago has tumbled 60%. it's not in danger of hitting 0, but 60% is quite a fall. I'm under the impression that it pretty much HAS to go up at this point so I think I should hold onto it, but I'm not sure what my next move should be. For the record, I am only 21 so time is on my side

One stock, one year, $100K to invest. What do you choose, and why?

Disclosure: I am not putting up the 100k, nor could I. My goal here is to understand how people value stocks, what sorts of metrics they use, and general analysis. I want to figure out how you can acheive a "target-price".

The stock can be short or long, I'm mainly cocerned with understanding the process of determining what stock and what pricepoint. I would say to stay away from foreign and penny stocks simply because I feel it would be difficult to back track and understand what went on in the process.

I'm excited to see what you guys come up with!

How do currency fluctuations affect companies that operate with headquarters in multiple countries?

If a manufacturing company has headquarters in China, the USA and other countries all over the world; A factory in China; And is traded on a US stock market; how do currencies affect them? American companies are worried about the dollar, Chinese companies about the Yuan. But what if its a Chinese company, that trades in the USA and has an HQ in the USA?
