Stock Market Today by Shailesh Saraf - NIFTY to take cues from International Markets based on PMI and Non Farm Pay Roll Data to be Released Today

Indian markets displayed exemplary strength at the clearing with Nifty closing at 7738. The underlined bullishness in Bank Nifty suggests that a Rate Cut is on the cards. The PMI data along with Non Farm Payroll will pave the way Global markets will trade today. The first day of the clearing tends to be a trending day and movements in first 15 minutes will decide the probable direction of the market. March clearing has seen a movement of 950 points. SGX Nifty was showing 40 points gap down in the morning even as Euro currency has a given a breakout yesterday above its 6 month high of 1.1376 which might trigger selling in the European markets. As a consequence selling might spillover into the Indian markets as well.

Can someone help me comprehend this ZH post

http://ift.tt/1pM1azW

According to this, the dovish fed talks were beneficial to the Chinese as the CNY gained value while the USD lost.

But why is this good? Wouldn't the Chinese want the Yuan to devalue in order to maintain the exports up. And I thought the CNY was pegged to the dollar, is this still true? Shouldn't they move together? Here we are seeing the CNY gain value while USD dropping. How does the fixing work?

If anyone could help provide an explanation to this it would be helpful.

Thanks!

{SOURCE!}

Good morning traders! Here are your pre-market news movers on this Thursday morning-

TICKER: GE

(LIVE STOCK QUOTE!)

Movado — The watch maker reported adjusted quarterly profit of 40 cents per share, 1 cent above estimates, with revenue also beating forecasts. Movado gave a full-year forecast that falls below Street forecasts, however, citing a "challenging" environment. The company also announced an 18-percent dividend increase to 13 cents per share as well as a new $50 million share buyback program.

TICKER: MOV

(LIVE STOCK QUOTE!)

Micron Technology — Micron reported an adjusted quarterly loss of 5 cents per share, 3 cents smaller than expected, while revenue for the chip maker was slightly below forecasts. That smaller loss was helped by cost cuts, as Micron tries to navigate what it calls "challenging" market conditions.

TICKER: MU

(LIVE STOCK QUOTE!)

Chipotle Mexican Grill — The restaurant chain has filed a trademark application for "Better Burger," with the idea of starting a new hamburger chain.

TICKER: CMG

(LIVE STOCK QUOTE!)

Progress Software — Progress earned an adjusted 27 cents per share for its latest quarter, missing estimates by a penny, while revenue also fell below analyst forecasts. The business software company also cut its annual guidance, and said Chief Financial Officer Chris Perkins is planning to retire at an unspecified time.

TICKER: PRSG

(LIVE STOCK QUOTE!)

BlackRock — BlackRock is planning to cut 400 jobs, according to multiple reports. The 3 percent workforce reduction would be the asset manager's largest ever, although one source tells Reuters that BlackRock is hiring in growth areas and will end this year with more workers than it has now.

TICKER: BLK

(LIVE STOCK QUOTE!)

Fiat Chrysler — The automaker is discussing possible collaborative ventures with many companies outside the auto industry, according to CEO Sergio Marchionne, as the auto industry incorporates an increasing amount of new technology in its vehicles.

TICKER: FCAU

(LIVE STOCK QUOTE!)

AIG — AIG's mortgage insurance unit, United Guaranty, has filed for an initial public offering of up to $100 million. AIG had announced earlier this year that the unit would be spun off.

TICKER: AIG

(LIVE STOCK QUOTE!)

SunEdison — The solar power company's spinoffs TerraForm Global and TerraForm Powerare now being run by a new "office of the chairman" following the departure of Chief Executive Officer Brian Wuebbels. No reason was given for his departure.

TICKER: SUNE

(LIVE STOCK QUOTE!)

McDonald's — McDonald's plans to add more than 1,000 restaurants in China, according to a Wall Street Journal interview with Chief Executive Officer Steve Easterbrook. The fast food chain is searching for an investment partner in that country to aid in a smooth expansion.

TICKER: MCD

(LIVE STOCK QUOTE!)

Medivation — Medivation has been working with JPMorgan Chase to field inquiries about potential bids for the cancer drug maker. However, CNBC's Meg Tirrell reports that Medivation has no plans to sell itself.

TICKER: MDVN

Rackspace — CLSA downgraded the cloud computing company's stock to "sell" from "underperform," saying that a sale of the company is highly unlikely.

TICKER: RAX

(LIVE STOCK QUOTE!)

Sabre Corp. — The travel services company earned an "overweight" rating in new coverage at Pacific Crest, while Expedia, Priceline and TripAdvisor were rated "sector weight." The firm calls Sabre an "underappreciated beneficiary" of the overall move toward digital travel management.

Any input on Jones Soda (JSDA)

They just recently struck a deal with seven eleven, this could be the comeback this company needed after a long time decline since the market crash. With every seven eleven purchasing their soda to stock the shelves I think this will help their first quarter results.. Although does anyone know more information about the deal with 7/11 such as how much 7/11 will get? I have been eyeing this company for a couple of years and missed the big spike, I just got in at .70 and yesterday it hit a 52 week high of .74.

Beginner - Buying Stocks

I'm a college student currently taking a corporate finance class. I've been learning about NPV, annuities, the importance of diversification, etc. I would like to learn more about buying/selling stocks to apply a few of the basic concepts I've been learning and to learn much much more - hopefully I'll make some money but I doubt it (until I get a few years of practice?).

Would someone please point me out to a beginner's guide on how to buy stocks (including which websites to use to trade)? Or just give me any general tips on how to start? I'm willing to invest a lot of time to understand this topic since I've been finding my class interesting thus far - I just really need some real world application.

Thank you.

i have a question about a strategy

If you found a strategy that worked 3 or of 4 times and wanted to advertise it to people, how would you go about it? Alot of people would see it as a scam but if it was real. The idea would be to make money of the strategy.

Advertising seems like the biggest part, since theres so many "1000% return in the penny market!" kind of things you know? I want them to contact me through email. Any tips?

Stock Market Today by Shailesh Saraf - Nifty expected to close between 7600 to 7700 on Thursday, however it can see selling pressure due to fall in Crude Prices

Nifty Futures has managed to sustain above the 7600 mark even as it saw a correction of 2% from the recent high. This is a typical healthy bull market correction which is indicative of the fact that the uptrend will resume today. The past few days saw call writing by FII and PRO in the strikes of 7600 and 7700 which means Nifty could close anywhere between 7600 and 7700 on 31st March 2016. Tomorrow being the last day of this clearing as well as the Financial Year some buying can be expected by the Institutional buyers to prop up their Net Asset Value.

I have a small number of shares in Cleco (CNL) which announced last night that they would be sold to Macquarie Group. As a result, the stock price jumped 13% and has been rock steady since then.

At this point, do I continue to hold onto these shares, or do I sell them?

Trying to understand how oil producers use contango... please enlighten me

So I think I understand it... but I just want to make sure. Let's say oil futures are selling for $5 more than current spot price one year out... do producers sell these futures now to book profits against their current production to book profits/sales? And if Crude then drops in price they benefit, and if it rises higher than that 5$ level they miss out on opportunity?

Nifty witnessed the first major profit booking this clearing while both Bank Nifty and Nifty fell by more than 1% at the days close. Nifty Spot is expected to hold yesterday’s low of 7587, failing to do so can trigger sharp selling in the markets. Nifty Open Interest data indicates major selling by FII and Pro which further suggests that 7730 will continue to be a daunting Resistance for the markets. Predicting the Markets - 3-28-2016

Hey guys, Matt here.

Today's weekly update comes in the form of a video podcast. Take a look

We do these every Wednesday at 7:00 EST, and Sunday 6:00 EST. We take tickers from you guys and we do our analysis live and on the spot if you want second opinions, we also cover all the majors.

In short: The SPX doesn't look so hot these days, the VIX is bottoming out, oil has broken it's support for it's long move up and is looking to consolidate the high 30's. Financials are showing weakness in the bull side today. Retail was doing pretty decent, but not much else was. The dollar had a down day but the trend is still up, this is leaving commodities weak.

And if you watch that video, please see the one where I show the difference between what is and what isn't a bull market. This is not a bull market. Here

Protect yourself traders. The end of the move up is near... very near. And with the numbers we've been crunching showing the quickness the SPX is deviating from historic rolling MA's, if there is a crash this is likely to be the worst one we have ever had. Welcome to the dawn of leveraged ETF's being the horse that drives the underlying. If we saw the power and burden on Credit Suisse when DWTI drove /CL down into the ground, well my friends, SPXS will make that trade look like a walk in the park.

Why is corporate acquisition price always higher than market price?

When a public company A, is bought by another B. A's stock price will usually jump up hugely, since B is usually paying a price higher than the market price. Could somebody explain me, why can't B just buy the shares of A in the public market instead of negotiates a price much higher, if they want to acquire A.

Anyone know the equation to convert SPY into the ES Future number in excel?

Let's say I have a price target on SPY of 205.23. What is the excel formula to convert that to an ES future contract amount and vise versa?

Decision Day for the SPY - Today in Trading 3/24/2016

Hello friends. So first and foremost I wanted to share with you guys my new and improved name. It's Matt. It's always been Matt. And I'm still doing the same thing I've been doing just under the name you guys know me from in the chatroom.

Public Service Announcement

What happened to the old account? Well in case you remember our very strange "friend" who likes to occasionally harass our posts? He's going on crusade to try to harm this sub. and our community as a whole (for whatever reason motivates him) He doesn't like our sub, he doesn't like you, he doesn't like our chat, and he doesn't like me apparently.

Can't win them all. You do something for free... and people who try to make money off of doing the same hate you for it. I know some of you have messaged /u/stockjock-e and the chat mods wondering where our daily posts are. Well they are here but this guy just downvotes them to zero with dozens of fake accounts so you don't actually get to see them. As in, he's attacking your own content. So your support of discussion and every upvote unfortunately counts until he gets bored trolling us... we post here and on /r/investing. Also don't engage him directly and he'll hopefully run out of steam. We're growing like wildfire, and it's only going to get better from here, so I wanted to thank you all for the support you've given our community so far and what we're all going to accomplish from here on out as a community!

Alright enough with the group hugs and shit... on with the news.

Video Recaps

These are the bi-weekly quick and dirty way to get the updates. Wednesdays at 7:00 EST and Sundays at 6:00 EST. So firstly if you haven't already done so please watch this video where we set up all you need to know about this market. Each resistance, and each support, and each price target. It's showing what a previous bull market looks like and examines the psychology behind the buying and selling. Then it compares it to the setup today to show the psychological case for it not being a bull market in my opinion.

[Afterward, watch this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEcGe3uXPgo we put together yesterday showing the aftermath of the call. We hit that B-Resistance nail right on the head to the penny. That's how sharp all of you guys are--it's the constant collaboration that lets us make these precises targets that we all are not asleep at the wheel when they happen. I just summarize them in a video for you guys, but it's the results of the community that is in the video. There is no Adsense, no ads, and no profit made whatsoever off of any of this--free free free for you guys!

So after seeing both videos please really absorb this SPX projection chart and the resistance lines presented. This is your trading blueprint for everything out there (as most equities charts have a similar look) Also take note the little white square. That is decision day 2016 (and I'm not talking the new president here). Somewhere mid-late April. That will be when you can fully say "this is a bull/bear market," because we either plummet sub 1800 from there, or we rocket past 2134 from there. That white square is the 50% retrace of the bull move from 1805 and will be about 1925-1930, give or take. That is the real battleground for this market--mark my words. So until then we are going to trade the chop as the algos and banks pass risk around for a bit...and this is how you do it.

How to trade this

First take a look at this SPX chart Two things will happen. We will touch that "B" resistance again, 2050. And secondly is that we will brush past the two targets in that chart I posted. 2010 and 1975. BOTH of these things will happen before the end of April, it's just a debate as to which happens first. We go up first then retrace, or we retrace first then go up. It's the million dollar debate on the street. Personally I am taking the bet we retrace first. Either case, the market does not look good to me and I feel it's destined to fall hard at some point before September.

I was shorting into today's close because I think on the dailies the SPX today looks exactly like 11/5-11/11 of last year--almost exactly. Failed to fill the gap on the close, starting Monday I believe we're destined to bounce off the LMA 100 on the dailies (that 1975 target) as the first move.

Current Fundamentals Summary

Bull case: QE and banks with cash can pump into equities despite terrible fundamentals and FOMO can lift a market many times above it's value. See: bubble.

Bear case: each dip of the market we've found lower and lower lows since 2014. Debt is bad and credit needs to cycle, and the oil glut is not going to go anywhere until production cuts happen. Low oil prices, drilling companies can't grow, and highly leveraged banks are stuck bagholding sinking shale ships (Re: housing crisis). The corporate junk bonds were heavily sold all year and are looking to take another round of selling (see; HYG). So things just feel unstable to me.

Well anyways, hope you guys enjoyed the posts and yes they will keep coming! Your support and discussion is appreciated, and as always, thanks for being a constant reader and member of our community.

Investing vs trading

I'm 29 and have been in the stock market on my own for a year and a half, and via my 401k for 7 years. In my personal brokerage, I have four positions (baba, Sq, ULTA, and tasr). My 401k is based trrmx (Trowe retirement 2050) trbcx (t Rowe blue chips) and X-RAY (stock from my company). Between trrmx and trbcx I have about 15k, and in X-ray I have 8k, baba-1k, sq-400, ULTA-800, tasr-600. I'm not able to diversify my X-ray account for the foreseeable future.

My question relates to investing vs trading. I know the importance of being diversified, but do the funds in my 401k provide enough diversification that I don't have to worry about win balanced in my person account?

Since I am younger, the strategy I want to use currently is based around a lot of risk (as you can see in my selections). With this knowledge, can I stock up on (pun intended) technology, biotech, and e-commerce which I believe will outperform the market over the next 20 years? Or is it a good rule of thumb to stay diversified throughout all of your holdings? Remember, I have no fear of risk, and a 35 year time horizon to work with

VXX, VIX and volatility questions

Let’s see if I understand this:

VXX is the short term VIX futures and should go down if S&P volatility remains low. If the S&P drops a few points then short term VIX futures rise and as a result VXX rises. However, if the S&P rises a few points then short term VIX futures hardly moves or drops and as a result VXX stays the same or drops.

If S&P goes from low to high to low VXX rises. If S&P goes from high to low to high VXX stays the same or drops. But cases are volatility. Shouldn’t VXX rise no matter the direction of volatility?

TSLA was 20 points off the recent highs, but bouncing this morning. Anybody here playing it long?

Recent high was $239 which was an amazing move off the Feb lows almost 100 points lower.

Need help at reading charts with TWTR as an example.

So, I'm trying to learn how to combine different signals to predict the market. Take Twitter: their SO is less than 20 with downtrend which would mean their stock is oversold. But at the same time they have not had any major candlestick signals hinting the stock has any support to go up. Would this mean they will keep decreasing? And, basically, is there any signal that in TWTR's current state would mean their share prices' breakthrough?

UA Stock Split on 4/7

Under Armour (UA) is announcing a stock split on 4/7, and as a shareholder, I'll have the ability to acquire 'C' shares for every 'A' share I own. I like the company business model and am still planning to invest going forward, but should I focus on adding to my 'A' share position or 'C' share position.

The only difference I found so far is that 'A' shares have voting rights, while 'C' shares do not, but if there's any other thoughts on this, I'd appreciate any feedback.

Poll results from the other week: "What kind of stocks/trades do you want to see here?"

Hello traders and investors!

Two weeks ago I asked the question in a poll, to get a gauge of what you, the good looking subscribers and readers of r/stockmarket would like to see more of here!

After 100 votes I unstickied the thread and here are the results:

http://ift.tt/1Rlp66R

The options where pretty damn close to each other, an almost equal split between swing trades, $1-$5 stocks and futures. Followed closely by options, large caps and penny stocks.

Those of you that have contacted me and asked what you could post about, there is your answer above!

Also, I would like to invite those of you lurking to get off your asses and jump in with your questions! :)

Another important topic while we are at this.

I hate seeing newbie questions being downvoted!

Remember, we were all new at some point. I know that some questions are just old and boring like "Is TSLA a good stock?", but if possible, try answering a question if you can, it makes a huge difference for the new arrival trying to understand how this all works!

For those of you already here and looking to add more, lets try focus on the items above and get the ball rolling here!

Thank you all for voting!

Amazon Stock Price Set to Soar After CEO's Latest Honor

So Bezos just got back on Barron's Top 30, and it looks like he's really becoming a leader on this whole Internet of Things and Internet of Everything market as this article shares http://ift.tt/25mYbif . The one-year price target on Yahoo right now is $732.73, so do you guys think that this Internet of Things stuff is already built into that? Still seems like there are major competitors out there like Google (just made a deal with Home Depot for cloud computing) and some of the applications are still kind of a novelty. r/StockMarket Stock Market Sentiment Thread (Poll within ... Vote!)

OK so I just thought to put together this quick market poll here at r/StockMarket to gauge some short-term market sentiment here...

I've never actually done one of these here on r/StockMarket but seeing as we have so many new redditors frequenting this sub it'd be kind of interesting to see/hear what some of you are thinking about the current state of the markets, and just how bullish or bearish you guys are up at these levels right now.

This is a pretty simple and straight forward market poll ... you are simply voting what you think we will see "next" from here (SPX - ATHs or 1950)-

...and once you have voted you can view the results here-

Also, if guys wouldn't mind please also post what you have voted for on that poll here on this thread as well because there is no way for us to see who has voted for what choice on the poll.

In fact, what would be really cool here imo is if you folks could give us a rationale for your choice. In other words -- post up a quick one or two sentence post (or more if you'd like!) stating why you think we'll hit either price on that poll.

I think it would be pretty cool to get to hear everyone's take (or at least anyone who frequents this sub) whether bullish or bearish. And hear exactly why you are bullish or bearish up at these levels.

This is just to gauge short-term market sentiment on here. Once either price objective on this poll has been met I will create a new thread here and re-post the link to this thread poll to see who got it right ... whenever that may be.

Anyway, if you guys have any questions about any of this feel free to post 'em up. I'm really interested to hear everyone's take on the markets and hoping to get some good feedback on here.

Thanks, and hope you all have a great trading week! :)

Stock Market Today by Shailesh Saraf - As expected Nifty closed above 7600 and still remains a Buy with a target of 7950

As Nifty showed strong buying yesterday all sectors traded in a positive zone. Bank Nifty Futures made a high of 15965, a gain of 296 points. Nifty has broken the gap level of 7606 and the next target is 7950. If Nifty does not close below the gap level of 7600 the target of 7950 remains intact. This being a truncated trading week on account of holidays, market volatility and participation is likely to remain subdued.

The Anatomy of a Bull/Bear Market - B-Resistance in the SPX - Today in Trading 3-21-2016

Last week I made an on the fly single take video called "The Anatomy of a Bull Market" to sort of settle the question most had in relation to their trust in the latest bull run lasting. I heard many call it "a bull market" without knowing what that actually means. So hopefully this post can help clarify this.

Per Investopedia, the definition of a Bull Market I can agree with. It's - "Bull markets are characterized by optimism, investor confidence and expectations that strong results will continue." Well right there, the doubt people have in it being a bull market is sort of counter-intuitive to the very definition of a "Bull" market which is pinged with words like confidence and expectations not... fear and doubt.

So trust me when I say that this isn't a bull market...at all. It's maybe a bullish run, but there will be many months of psychology that has to play out for that confidence and higher 52-wk highs in the SPX... if it even were to happen. So to reiterate, this is not a bull market whatsoever. And if there was one that was to emerge from this--we won't know until later this year when it takes that long to even get to new highs.

Now I'm still highly bearish on the market, and technically I believe we are in the start of a bear market...which is characterized by "widespread pessimism," which all this doubt people have in prices now lead me to believe. A bull market you will know it's bullish...that video will show you how you know. And until we know it's bullish, it's bearish.

So let's look at the tickers, shall we? SPX today traded right up to that "B-resistance" in the video just as we predicted it would days before. And then it stopped. The VIX fell to new seven month lows as volatility continued to decline in this low volume creep up to that pre-determined resistance. Here's another way to see it in the SPY itself.

Now to compare with previous bull markets, here's the chart from the video. Historic bull markets take a long time to break out of the bearish resistances, "c" first, "b" second, then finally "a" to reach the previous 52-week high for that one final test. So right now, we are at the "b" resistance. The path to A could be months even if it happened. The plateaued low-volume SPX and the lowering VIX tells me that trading has all but dried up and people are just waiting nervously for that first person to sell off in a panic. The mutual waiting however might end up being the lubricant for the SPX to slide up even higher in the next day or two before that inevitable correction happens to retrace this last leg up--1980 then 1925 I'd say before a second attempt to ride up to try to break B for good. As in... it's going to be chop for a while so don't expect a raging bull move or bear move to just emerge overnight. The deciding factor will come somewhere like...

here--Scribble Chart Junior. showing the psychology of where that decision will actually be made. There will be a downward move in the SPX within the month, that's inevitable and just how trading is. This move up from 1800 will have some selling. Where that selling stops the market will start to battle over the question "is this the final 1850's-ish dip I should buy at for the long bull ride up?" or "Time to be the first to GTFO so I'm not bag holding for 3 years waiting to get back to 1850's-ish"

Here are some fundamental drivers and to me the two main fundamental drivers of this latest bull run. Corporate junk bond buying and HYG short covering and the seasonal bullishness in WTI Crude which should be rounding off and turning bearish again before June/July (as long as no OPEC production cuts are announced). I'm actually thinking oil might take a quick knee-jerk downward within the next two weeks before attempting to retest these low $40's levels, flattening off, then falling for good again in July.

Oil's bullishness is all things seasonal, as OPEC is only spinning rhetoric--nobody is cutting or adding to production with words like "freezes" and "ceiling changes," things are just staying the same--which for years we've all agreed is bad. The US is looking to revive the shale game and Iran is gunning to produce 1 mmbbl/day more, so the glut isn't going away any time soon. And on the junk crisis, as soon as the first few debt-burdened companies / small caps has their credit deteriorate or a few Chapter 11's are announced in the news...all it takes is that one catalyst to confirm everyone's fears that this in fact was never a bull market, and you were right all along.

Things need to fall before they rise, it's the cardinal rule of trading. Buuuut... they also need to rise before they fall. So a few really green SPX days to puncture that B-resistance before a reversal might just be the case--just like we saw in early 2011.

Cash might not be a bad idea right now until all of this chop plays out. Trade well, trade safe, and as always--stay liquid my friends.

Reading charts and graphs

Quite often people post charts on here whether candlestick or other and I'll be honest I do not know how to properly read them. I've heard many people explain them in different ways or their own theories. Is there anything you all can either recommend looking for in trends, or any good reads on how to know what you are looking at. Maybe a link to a website with information in easy to understand language would be great. Thank you. I rather have some understanding instead of just YOLOing myself into a loss. Thanks!

3.21.16 Monday Pre-Market Movers: HOT, IHS, AAPL, NKE, SYMC, JWN, FDX, VAL, FB, SPLS, DIS, MON & more

{SOURCE!}

Good morning traders! Here are your pre-market news movers on this Monday morning-

Starwood — The hotel chain has signed off on an improved takeover bid from Marriott, worth $13.6 billion in cash and stock. The new deal comes after China's Anbang topped Marriott's original deal with Starwood with its own offer last week. Separately, Starwood signed a deal to operate hotels in Cuba, becoming the first U.S. hotel company to do so since the 1959 revolution.

TICKER: HOT

(LIVE STOCK QUOTE!)

IHS — The business analytics firm and financial market information firm Markit are combining in what's being billed as a merger of equals. The deal is worth more than $13 billion, with IHS shareholders owning 57 percent of the new IHS Markit and Markit shareholders owning the rest. Separately, IHS reported adjusted quarterly earnings of $1.40 per share for its first quarter, 5 cents above estimates, while revenue also topped forecasts. The company said it was pleased with its performance even amid headwinds in its energy-related business.

TICKER: IHS

(LIVE STOCK QUOTE!)

Apple — Apple will hold a product event set to begin at 1 p.m. ET. Apple is expected to introduce an updated small-form iPhone and a new version of its iPad.

TICKER: AAPL

(LIVE STOCK QUOTE!)

Nike — JPMorgan Chase added the athletic apparel and footwear maker's stock to its Analyst Focus list, saying concerns about inventory and gross margin issues are largely unwarranted. At the same time, JPMorgan removed Lululemon from the Analyst Focus list, in part due to concerns over profit margin contraction.

TICKER: NKE

(LIVE STOCK QUOTE!)

WL Ross Holding — The investment firm controlled by billionaire Wilbur Ross is buying chemical and plastics distributor Nexeo Solutions for $1.6 billion in cash, stock, and assumed debt. The seller, private equity firm TPG, will retain a 35 percent stake.

TICKER: WLRH

(LIVE STOCK QUOTE!)

Symantec — Piper Jaffray upgraded the maker of cybersecurity software to "overweight" from "neutral," saying the company's consumer segment is stabilizing while the enterprise side is growing.

TICKER: SYMC

(LIVE STOCK QUOTE!)

Nordstrom — The retailer's shares were downgraded to "neutral" from "overweight" at Piper Jaffray. The firm thinks Nordstrom is executing well, but thinks the stock may be overvalued in the near term after a 19 percent recovery so far this year.

TICKER: JWN

(LIVE STOCK QUOTE!)

FedEx — FedEx shares could rise 15 percent to 20 percent over the next year, according to an article in Barron's. Analysts quoted by Barron's said worries over Amazon.com using its own jets for moving goods at the expense of FedEx and United Parcel Service are likely overblown.

TICKER: FDX

(LIVE STOCK QUOTE!)

Valspar — Valspar is being bought by rival paint maker Sherwin-Williams for $9.3 billion in cash or $113 per share. That represents a 35 percent premium to Valspar's closing price on Friday.

TICKER: VAL

(LIVE STOCK QUOTE!)

Facebook — Facebook Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg met with China's propaganda czar over the weekend, as part of a China visit aimed at opening up the China market for the social network.

TICKER: FB

(LIVE STOCK QUOTE!)

Staples — The office supplies retailer will attempt to move its proposed takeover of Office Depot forward in a Washington, D.C., court today. The Federal Trade Commission is suing to block the deal on antitrust grounds.

TICKER: SPLS

(LIVE STOCK QUOTE!)

Walt Disney — Disney's "Zootopia" topped the weekend box office for a third straight week, bringing in $38 million in North American ticket sales. Lions Gate Entertainment saw a disappointing debut for "Allegiant," the third movie in the "Divergent" series, with $29 million in ticket sales and a second place finish.

TICKER: DIS

(LIVE STOCK QUOTE!)

Monsanto — The chemical maker is exploring possible deals with two rivals, BASF and Bayer, according to Bloomberg. Discussions have involved partnerships, unit purchases, and joint ventures.

TICKER: MON

(LIVE STOCK QUOTE!)

Is it time to invest on oil now that it have a bottom? I think is time to invest on Oil. Just My Opinion. read why and tell me what you think. thanks

I think so. Just to be contrary: oil was cruising along at $100 or more for years, then crashed and found a bottom at 45-50, recovering to 6o a couple of months later. Then it slid to $40, and climbed back to 50. Then slid again to bounce off $30, and is now back to $40. I think $30 was the bottom, and we're still low enough to take advantage of oil. But looking at the chart at the bottom, the recent "bottom" at $30 looks a lot like the $45 level in January-March 2015. Nothing is certain except death and taxes. Is it safe now? No, nothing with that much volatility could be called safe. But if you have a long term horizon, I think it's a pretty good bet. WHAT DO YOU THINK??

I am continually reading articles such as this one and this one that indicate that the value per share of the Starwood purchase is $83.67. On Friday, HOT was trading around $80.00 for most of the day, which would imply to me that there is $3.67 upside. But if that's true, then I would have expected the market to value the stock appropriately, and yet it remains $3.09 below this target on Friday's close. What am I missing?

3/18/16 Friday Movers: TIF, ADBE, JPM, SFLY, VIAB, ARO, WFM, VRX, LVS, WYNN & more

{SOURCE}

Good morning traders! Here are your pre-market movers on this Friday-

Tiffany — The luxury goods retailer earned an adjusted $1.46 per share for its latest quarter, with revenue also scoring a slight beat. Tiffany said it expects earnings growth to resume in the second half of the year.

Adobe Systems — The software company earnings an adjusted 66 cents per share for its latest quarter. That was 5 cents above estimates, while revenue was slightly above forecasts, as well. Adobe also gave upbeat guidance for the current quarter as digital media sales surge.

JPMorgan Chase — The bank increased its stock buyback program by $1.88 billion. That amount will be added to the $6.4 billion authorization put in place last summer.

Shutterfly — Shutterfly named Christopher North as president and chief executive officer, effective May 31. Interim CEO Phil Marineau will remain in place until that date. North comes to the online photo service from Amazon.com's U.K. unit.

Columbia Pipeline Group — The company agreed to be bought by TransCanada for $10.2 billion. The deal for the Houston-based natural gas pipeline operator is worth $25.50 per share, compared to yesterday's close of $23.51.

Viacom — Viacom has gotten interest from about three dozen companies for a minority stake in its Paramount Pictures film studio, according to CEO Philippe Dauman. He made his comments in an interview with The Wall Street Journal.

Aeropostale — Aeropostale plans to seek strategic alternatives, after the teen apparel retailer said it could face liquidity problems after failing to solve a dispute with a major supplier. That news comes after the company reported a 13th consecutive quarterly loss.

Whole Foods Market — Whole Foods will replace fast-growing industry standard chickens with slower growing varieties. The natural foods grocer said the chickens will have better lives and yield better meat.

Lear — Lear is in talks with the United Auto Workers union to return jobs to Detroit from Mexico. The automotive supplier did not give details on the talks, but is said to be trying to get the union to agree to lower wages.
