4/1 Daytrading Watchlist

Stocks I'm watching tomorrow, 4/1/15

Here we goooooo it's April! Q1 is over and we're into spring now. I had a nice day shorting GMAN from my list for a nice gain in the morning and adding to my NPTN swing. There were actually some other sick movers from my list which I ignored, haha but hopefully some of you guys made money on them at least. Sometimes I get so much crap on my list I miss it all even though it all goes just like I expected it would! Anyway here are the details of my day and my plan for tomorrow: http://ift.tt/1ahivd0

Let me know if y'all have any questions or trade ideas yourselves! I'm always open to other opinions.

What is causing the current bull market and do you think we're in a bubble?

I'm just curious what is causing the current bull-market because the job market still isn't great, yet despite this the market has been going up sharply for 6 years now. The current price action reminds me of 2007 and 2000. Would love to hear all your thoughts.

How Do You Skim Your Profits? [xpost /r/investing]

What's your strategy to skim profits while your stock is rising? Do you wait until it nears your target, or do you take a certain percentage at intervals as it rises? Selling the winners can be a big mistake, but for volatile stocks it seems like some percentage should be accumulated as a stock appreciates.

I find myself unable to let all of a stock ride while I can lock in a good gain (eg > 50%). My strategy is to capture 70% of my target profit by selling at intervals up to my target. What do you do?

Stocks I'm watching tomorrow, 3/31/15

Yo yo! Been a fun month so far with some fun trading and also some learning as always! I had a pretty good day, all wins in FWM and GENE from my watchlist so stress free and a great way to start the week. I started a new swing in IBIO over at /r/1krobinhoodproject also.

Here are the details of the day and my list for tomorrow: http://ift.tt/1xRl680

Oh also don't forget BGMD earnings tomorrow morning ... always fun to watch a stock with a hot technical setup on earnings cause if they beat it now has twice the momentum and if they miss there is a panic from all the people who were swinging the technical setup...sometimes it is pretty amusing watching all the craziness lol

Let me know if ya got any questions!

"Unfortunately, the SPX is exactly where it was in November of 2014 and has not put together two consecutive up sessions since mid-February. Stockmarket And Perfection

Is it possible to be perfect in the stock market? Before you say no, let me also ask you this, can every game be played perfectly? It doesn't need to be a human playing, it could be a set number of super advanced algorithms to detect the perfect move everytime.

Think about it, is there any algorithm achievable that literally "solves" the stock market? I think of it like this, every game has a way of being played perfectly (chess is the best example) shouldn't it be true in the stock market? I mean, you just predict if stocks go up or down. If anything it just isn't achievable by humans. It is only achievable by robots/extremely advanced algorithms. When do you guys think this actually happens? Where a bot is able to predict where a stock is going to move with nearly 100% accuracy.

My opinion: I would be very shocked if within the next 100 years we create a way to figure out where the market is absolutely going to head. The amount of factors the system would have to take literally use over 1000 terabytes of info. I think it is possible just not for a while

Is this advised? Does anybody know if, over 52 weeks, you bought shares of an S&P 500 etf at 3:50pm and sold them at 6:30 am the next morning, would you be up or down (neverminding spread)?

thoughts on GDDY ipo 4/1 ?

There seems to be mixed opinions on it , so i wanted to get a discussion going.

my thoughts: I personally do not like the 1.4 billion dollars in debt. At ipo of 17-19 dollars and 22 million shares being offers. that means possible revenue of 374,000,000.00 - 418,000,000.00 (not accounting for market swings) thats still leaves an awfully high ceiling to climb before 'real profits' can be reported IMO.

Also having an IPO on april fools leaves room for all sorts of jokes.

Stocks with available Pre-market prices vs those without?

I'm having trouble finding a clear difference between stocks that have pre-market prices and those that don't. For example, VDSI does not have a pre-market price on Google Finance (you can get a quote on MarketWatch) but BBRY does have a pre-market price (which you can find on Google Finance, NASDAQ's website, etc).

Was the 22.80 opening price on VDSI I read on Market Watch this morning just an estimate? It wound up opening above 23, where as BBRY opened arond 9.80 which coincided with its pre-market price.

Thanks

I would like to get advice from you guys and gals about what books to read, what stocks to lurch on, and what trends you believe are gold mines to becoming a successful trader. Any help is useful... Stocks I'm watching tomorrow, 3/27/15

Hi everyone!

Nice day today. I spent most of it hanging out w/ a friend who was here learning the ways of the daytrader so I didn't trade that much and spent most of it talking to him and lip syncing to thug rap (note: we're both skinny white guys, haha!). I did take a couple trades though! MOH from my list gapped down and CAM gapped up so I didn't touch either of those, but I was able to hit TEAR short at $2.50 and covered at $2.40 toward the end of the day...right before it wicked down to $2.26! But that's the nature of thin stocks...it was getting toward the end of the day and I didn't wanna be too greedy so I took the dime. still a nice win. I also shorted SNDK in the morning at $67.08 for a small gain down to the $66.80s but the real move came later in the day whilst I was stuffing my face with pizza so I missed it. lol. Anyway all in all a good day...got a nice bounce in the market (SPY) and some hot bounces in the biotech stocks that got beat down the last couple days, like ISIS, ESPR, CEMP. That action should continue tomorrow also as long as IBB and SPY stay bouncy/strong. If they reverse again then so be it...we can make money in both directions! Oh, also I took a swing in MPO at $1.02 since energy stocks have been a bit bouncy lately...I'm thinking over $1.05 this will be a quick trip to $1.15-1.20 but if it fades tomorrow I'll take it off...not gonna give it much room, it just needs to work quick or I'll cut it! Ok, so that's it, here are some ideas for tomorrow:

  • BGMD - I took a small swing in this in my Robinhood account at $0.90 today (see /r/1krobinhoodproject) but if it takes off tomorrow I'll probably day trade it also. It looks like $0.93 is the key, maybe $0.95, I'll just be watching level 2 to see where it gets some juice and start in there. Since this is a penny stock and pretty thin it will require real time data and level 2 to trade properly so if you don't have that I'd just stay away or watch/ask questions/learn!

  • RTRX - This is one of the few biotechs that hasn't cracked to the downside yet and I think whether it does depends a lot on both SPY and IBB. If SPY and IBB are weak tomorrow this could drop. If they are strong I would be much more cautious shorting it because the fact that it hasn't budged in the big biotech selloff is actually an indicator of strength for now. Anyway, I'm looking for a couple things...first, if it bounces in the morning I will watch to see how it reacts on the way up to $23. I'd start considering a short over $22.50 and the closer it can get to $23 the better but I want to see topping action/weakness intraday somewhere between $22.50 and $23.00. If I see that I will start a short with risk over $23. The other possibility is that it doesn't bounce at all in the morning and sets up a base at $22.14 - $22.00. If it does that and just flatlines around $22 I will consider shorting any weakness through $22 with a stop back over $22. The target in either scenario would be $21.50 - $21.00. If it gaps below $22, I will short any pops toward $22 as long as it doesn't gap down more than 10-15 cents. If it gaps to $21.70, $21.60 etc then most of the move will be over and it will just be bought up by shorts covering from $24 so I'll leave it alone or even consider going long.

  • HCHC - This has not had a rest in 12-13 days and is getting very stretched to the upside. It seemed to be having a bit of trouble getting over $13.30 today so I'd like to see a push through that to see how it reacts. If it pushes through I'd basically be watching to see if it holds up or just gets splattered back through. If it holds up then I will watch for the same thing at $13.50. I'll just keep watching for that action all the way up until it gives in. If it can't get over $13.30, I will short risking against that, but I suspect it continues a bit more...maybe even to $14+ so we'll see! It is getting very extended though so like NPTN, it will be ready for some flushy action soon...to the bottom of the toilet from whence it came!

Other stuff to toss on the idea list:

  • NPTN still holding from $7.21 short. Today was the first day it closed under the 30 min 50ema since 2/26 started this huge run, so that's a significant thing I think. If it touches the $6.30 area I will cover partial and look to readd around $7 when/if it bounces. Otherwise I'll hold the rest into the abyss! $5-5.50 target

  • QUNR still pretty parabolic...could crack lower soon

  • FWM still setting up under $6...this should go soon (maybe tomorrow or early next week)

  • BGC flagging under the 200dma

  • TNK similar look to BGMD but much more liquid...shipper stock that should break over $6 if energy stays bouncy

  • DRRX flagging under $1.80

  • BDE flagging around $10...could break higher soon

BTW, Some people in my last post suggested a "tip jar" (lol) for people who have made money off my picks or learned some stuff that improved their trading and want to say thanks. So I'm gonna throw this link in my watchlists from now on...please realize I expect NOTHING for doing these watchlists because it is mostly to help ME but if you have made some money off my picks or just feel like you've gotten better because of the education and feel like saying thanks, you can do so here and I will consume a beer or ten in your honor! Let me know if that doesn't work cause it's the first time I've set up that kinda link for my Paypal. I greatly appreciate the gesture and suggestion from the people reading these and definitely was not expecting that :)

Hope y'all have a great night!

Chris

(NOOB) Advice on Trading

Hello Reddit, in my AP Economics class we are doing a project on the stock market, left alone to the wolves with what little information we've been taught on how the stock market works. So far me and my group have been trying day trading, and we've failed twice, so now I'm looking here for some newbie advice. We have 200,000 dollars to put into anything, and we have 5 weeks until the project is over. We are looking for any and all advice, it would be appreciated, whether it be guides on day trading or personal anecdotes on how to play the market.

Robinhood app delayed?

I stared using Robinhood about a month back. I'm new so this might be a stupid question.

Why is Robinhood consistently different +/- in stock price from yahoo finance or any other real time stock chart out there.

For example, I bought NBG at 1.29 and today it went to 1.32 but Robinhood stayed steady at 1.30 for the duration. Now yahoo is saying its at 1.29 per share but Robinhood is still staying steady. I've noticed this with all the stocks I have purchased with Robinhood...

3/26 Watchlist (Amazing Stocks Today)!

http://ift.tt/19RG1wU

Submitted March 25, 2015 at 10:15PM by Badbaseball http://ift.tt/1Bqn0bF

Stocks I'm watching tomorrow, 3/26/15

Hi all!

Nice day for me ... just two trades. Small loss from $1.29 -> $1.25 on NETE and big win on VBLT from $7.23 -> $7.77. Still holding NPTN short from $7.21 and looking for spots to add. I have $5-5.50 target in the next few weeks, but will add up to $8+ if needed. Not much to say about today except it was a bit bloody in the general markets (SPY, IWM, QQQ, DIA etc) so I will be watching for bounces soon. I think we have the potential to pull back more still so right now just playing it day by day. I have a few ideas for tomorrow:

  • MOH - I'll be watching this for a bounce back toward $65.20 - 65.50 to enter a short with risk vs. $66. I can see this drop to $63-62 relatively quickly though it does have that last daily high in the $64.30 area...this is why I want a decent bounce in it to short vs shorting right out of the gate. I expect it will have some trouble getting through $64.30 so I wanna be in high enough that if it stalls there and can't get through it will still be a nice gain.

  • TEAR - Thin name which I plan to short on a break through $2.50. If it pops and holds a bounce toward the upper resistance area at $2.58 then I will consider adding it for a fade at $2.58-2.55 depending on the time of day. What I DON'T want is to anticipate this breaking $2.50 by shorting it at $2.57 at 3pm, because most likely it will not work and I'll end up either taking a flat/small loss or holding it overnight. I think an ideal scenario is that it sits down right at $2.50 and shows a big bid so someone can smack it through and I can keep a stop right over $2.50. Target if it breaks will be $2.14 - $2.00.

  • CAM - The energy sector was the ONLY green sector today so I grabbed one stock from that area that looks nice. CAM should run over $45.24 with a target of $46 so I'll be watching for a pull toward $44.50 - $44.25 for a long entry. If it can dance around $44.50 and reclaim it that will be my trigger. If the stock simply maintains the 5 minute trend here and bounces off $44.80 in the morning then I will simply wait for a dip or coiling pattern under $45 and use $44.70 - $44.80 as a stop.

And a few others I'm watching passively:

  • NPTN still holding my swing short from $7.21 and will add on pops

  • QUNR still watching for parabolic short $40+ now

  • RALY possible parabolic short maybe $16+

  • SLTD possible parabolic short $4.50+

  • REPH watching over $9.50 for red to green. VERY RISKY stock so keep size small. Ultimately this is a short but for now it's still a squeeze play w/ positive news

  • FWM eyeing for a swing long if it can settle under $6 for a few days

  • NETE watching for red to green through $1.29

  • ZIOP was holding $11 nicely today. If we get a bounce in IBB some of these beaten down bios could follow.

  • SEED up on news but there was a misprint in the article stating they rejected a bid for $60b (it was really $60m) so this move is overdone. Possible parabolic short $1.90-2 but be careful, many sheeple are playing :)

Hope y'all had a nice day!

Chris

Any advice on trading in thin markets?

While I practically live in the investing section of my local bookstore, I've seen relatively little material that discusses the strategy of trading in thin markets. By thin markets I mean markets where the liquidity is so low that everyone is staring at the Level II quotes and scheming up ways to turn a profit (usually penny stocks, online goods markets such as Craigslist, eBay, etc.). From the little I've heard, it's a much different game to trading something like SPY, and there's a lot more psychology involved.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for some good material on the subject? I've tried Google, but alas, I don't even know what to search for...

Question about Canadian brokers

For the Canadian traders out there, do you use virtual brokers or qtrade investors as a broker? I'm looking for a new platform that has a better shorting list than questrade. I am with them and if you want to short a stock you have to call in to them to do it but I would rather do it through the platform of its available. After looking at the best and worst brokers online it looks like those 2 are at the top. Which would you recommend? I'm just trying to get some thoughts from fellow reddit traders. Thanks!

Stock recommendation agency scam

Hello!

I received a strange call yesterday and I would like your input on it.

The person who called claimed that he works for a known trading company. What he pitched at me are the following:

  1. Daily recommendations on what to buy/sell.

  2. If I follow said recommendations, I should see a ~15% profit monthly.

  3. the subscription for the service has a fixed annual or half-annual fee, regardless of volume/profit.

  4. To ensure me this is not a scam, he proposed a one week free trail where he will be providing those "recommendations" in order to test their service.

This is too good to be true. I have no experience in stock market and I know very little other than accessing, buying, and selling. I asked multiple times what is the catch but he kept ensure me there are none. Hence, could you please give your advice on this. Also, if it happens to be an old on going scam, could you provide a reading material on the subject.

Thank you!!

Stocks I'm watching tomorrow, 3/25/15

Hi everyone!

Fun day today despite some shakeyness and a few shenanigans! From my list last night I shorted CYBX at $66.01 in premarket which sort of worked but it didn't hold the gap fill so I ended up taking it off. I really wanted the 65 breakdown so I think there will be another chance. I also took a small loss on CYBR as it didn't hold the first pop over $53.50 per my plan, and then of course reversed off the lows, lol. LOCO and RADA were two more from my list where I had sick unrealized gains on and they turned into flat or small losses due to greed! So all of that sucked...HOWEVER I destroyed NPTN shorting at $7.21 (as you know I've been watching this for like 1.5 weeks) and I'm still short and haven't covered any yet, tee hee hee! So I'm going to swing this sucker into submission. I also had a nice end of day scalp on ORMP from $7.50 which added a little chunk. NPTN alone made my whole day green, so as usual all my gains came from one stock, lol but that's usually what happens when I latch onto something I like so I'm fine with it. These other stocks like CYBR, LOCO and RADA are more liquid than what I usually play so I am still kinda learning how to trade them properly and sometimes I am too greedy or have the wrong size position and just mess them up...it's a learning process like everything else in the market. Anyway, still a nice day overall and that NPTN couldn't have been more perfect...I will still plan to add more over the next few days but I plan to hold this for a while and have a $5-5.50 target for now. All that being said I will try to be a bit less greedy tomorrow...here's the plan!

  • ORMP - This is a very thin stock but has huge relative volume and seems like the only news is that they're going to be presenting their oral Insulin at some upcoming conference...definitely a short squeeze kinda move it seems! So I am gonna be watching this for a short on the back side ... I'm thinking probably $9.50, maybe $10. I definitely don't wanna step in front of this train so I'm gonna wait for an afternoon trade unless going long. I am not opposed to playing it long on little flags and stuff like that on the way up as the early shorts get squeezed out, but will definitely be cautious.

  • NPTN - Watching this for any pops to add to my short from $7.21. I may wait a couple days and let it settle to see where it will bounce so I can add a bit higher. I don't want to add too much too soon and screw up my average so I am going to stay patient.

  • MDR - Perfect set up for a red to green move. I'll be watching for a weak open, hopefully $3.65-$3.70 and then a push through $3.78 (today's high) to fill the gap from back in November to $4.00. Should be a relatively simple trade with risk against $3.60ish.

  • FWM - Awesome swing look on this ... I'd like to see a pullback to $5.65-5.70 (30 min trend) to enter with risk to $5.30 or so. It could take a few days to break out from there but I think over $6.10 this can hit $7 relatively quickly.

I also noticed CYTR finally broke out and held over $3.40 which is pretty significant so I'll eb watching that for a continuation. TTS could run over $11.64 and still watching CHGG over $8.50. Ok that's it...sorry for the lame watchlist and short descriptions...I am beat cause I went straight from trading to working w/ one of my students for like 3.5 hours and I'm beat and just wanna get this done and go to bed! Let me know if ya have any questions and I'll answer in the morning :)

Thanks y'all!

Chris

$RHT expect an earnings beat tomorrow

Last quarter $RHT beat EPS consensus by 11% and the stock jumped $6.50 in a day (~10%), though the quarter before it beat by 11% and the stock dropped $3. This is a common theme with Red Hat, big swings in the stock price (up or down) following an earnings beat, but given its current short float of only 3% it seems that the smart money is expecting a gain tomorrow. For the record, they've beaten EPS consensus estimates 8 times in a row, by an average of ~14%. Something to watch out for.

Need help with question regarding Canadian brokers

I'm new to online trading, and I'm currently using Questrade. My main problem with questrade is that it doesn't allow PM and AH trading and there is no cap on comission fees for options trading. 100 contracts costs over 100$. Is there a Canadian broker that can settle these two problems for me? PM and AH trading ability is a must for US markets. Most major moves happen around those times.

Stocks I'm watching tomorrow, 3/24/15

Hi everyone! Nice day today with tons of stuff to trade despite the low volume in SPY. I closed out ARAY, RGDO and LXRX in the morning all for small losses (only to see freakin ARAY pop to $10.25 in after hours for some reason?! GRRRR) but I was actually expecting that a bit since last week biotechs were pretty weak. However I try not to let morning losses deter me from my plans and I stayed focused and ended up coming back nicely with a bunch of day trades in ZIOP, RADA, CAPN and LOCO! All in all a pretty good day and I have some nice ideas for tomorrow:

  • RADA - Awesome news on this little stock today. Though they don't say anything about how much the deal is worth, as someone who used to work for a defense contractor I can say that these companies like Lockheed, Boeing, BAE Systems etc don't select just anyone to participate in these types of projects. The implication isn't so much the deal itself but more that since they were chosen by Lockheed, it opens the door for RADA to make other deals with other US defense contractors that normally wouldn't even consider a company like RADA (edit for clarity: RADA actually already has relationships w/ LMT and Boeing and a few others but every time Lockheed picks one of these little companies for a project it will go through the chain to Boeing, BAE Systems, Mantech, SAIC, SRC, etc and they all start getting ideas...for whatever reason in the defense space in my experience at least people seem to like Lockheed to make all the decisions and take all the risk, lol). These big contractors are really picky about who they work with and it's tough to get your foot in the door, but once you do it will usually open the door to lots of other opportunities. So anyway, nice news, and I think this can go higher. If it gaps up too much it can still be a technical short but I think fundamentally this is a long on this news. I'll be watching for a pullback toward $2.60-2.75 and a red to green move. My suspicion is a lot of people will try to short it thinking it will just fade like the other times it has popped like this, but I think this news is a bit more important than the other times it popped. So anyway, entry $2.60-2.75 with risk under the low of the day, and target $3.50ish. If it gaps up I will watch for dips toward $3 to get long. If it gaps up too much ($3.40+) I'll consider a short against $3.50.

  • CYBR - Finally held up today over $54. I'm watching for a pullback in the morning toward $53.50 - $54.00 and then a red to green move after little dance around the round numbers. Target will be $55.50 - $56.00 with risk against the lows of the "dance."

  • CYBX - This is a bit thin but I absolutely love the daily chart. I am really hoping for a gap up to short into like the last couple days but in case we don't get it I have a couple other plans. If we open between $65 and $65.30 I will start a small short with a stop over $65.45. Then I will add on the crack below $65. In the event of a gap down under $65 I will probably just end up leaving it alone until the first bounce which means I may miss the trade. A few times I've seen these gap down under the round number and just immediately plummet for the first 15 minutes and waste the whole move w/ the gap down so if that happens I won't be able to capitalize. However if it manages to bounce or set up at all under $65 I will short the first pop/setup with a stop back over $65. So this one is gonna have to be played pretty dynamically and I'm hoping it doesn't gap down but if it does then it does!

I'm gonna keep my list to just these three though I do still have some others I'm watching...Between these three I should have plenty of opportunity in the morning and then can re-evaluate others after that. Here are the other ideas:

  • NPTN planning to enter a swing short over $7 soon

  • ESSX possibly short $1.60+

  • RTRX possible short $23.20-23.50

  • ESPR could go either way but awesome liquidity and nice range ... watching for day trades

  • LOCO watching for long over $27

  • ZIOP short continuation on pops

  • ZGNX possible swing short under $1.35 back to $1.20 w/ stopover $1.40

  • ADXS possible red to green

  • TTS nice swing look if it can dip one more time

  • EGRX possible bounce over $42.50

  • QUNR parabolic short $39+

  • LQDT possible red to green

Hope everyone had a kickass Monday!

Chris

What's up with VIX/UVXY?

UVXY recently crashed to an all-time low of $14.91, immediately after the press conference on Wednesday at 2:00 PM. I'm in a game with my Econ class on Marketwatch, and have lost $4,000 because of this. Does anyone know what happened at the press conference?

Also, I read this on Yahoo, but I don't fully understand it. Did someone buy a lot of shares expecting the value of it to go down, and that makes them money? Is this making the value go down right now?

I put $30,000 of the virtual money in UVXY to buy and sell on the daily swings, but when it went down so much, I decided to hold on and wait for the value to go back up, which it hasn't so far. Should I expect it to go up anytime soon, or is it slated to keep dropping?

Stocks I'm watching tomorrow, 3/23/15

Hey everyone!

Nice week last week...check out my review of it here . Friday was a little tricky but Ihave a couple of swings in RGDO and ARAY that I held overnight. I'm in a bit high ($9.08) on ARAY but should be able to keep a stop under Friday's low for now, and will play it dynamically. I really liked the way it bounced off $8.87 on the 30 min trend and closed strong near $9 so I'm pretty sure the trade will work out. I also am not opposed to adding to it like I did on XOMA which worked out really well. Also if you read my weekly review you'll see I'm planning to up my size a little bit this week since last week I was a bit too aggressive on targets and I think it was mostly cause I wasn't trading big enough to satisfy myself, lol. anyway, should be a fun week and a nice end to the month...let's get it started right! Here are my plans:

  • RTRX - Watching for morning rush toward $23.20-23.50 to short into. If it gets a gap down I will use $22.20 as a guide to short against. The stock got sold off into the close and IBB was also quite weak on Friday so I'll be watching for follow through to the downside with a possible target of $21. In the event this does push in the morning I plan to wait for some indication of weakness...churning above $23, lower highs, something...not going to just short blindly and hope it rolls over since this does have positive news after all.

  • ESPR - This one could go either way but my initial inclination is down. Like RTRX I will be watching for a morning push to short into but want to see some indication of weakness, failed follow through, lower highs, etc. I could also see this squeezing since it was relatively strong compared to the biotech index and the rest of the bio sector on Friday. So my gut says down, I'd like to see it stay under $116 to confirm a short. If it breaks above $116 and holds I will consider it for a long on dips with potential $120-122 target.

  • NPTN - Another extended biotech that seems ready for a short. One of these days the short will actually hold but I'm not sure it's quite ready yet. Will be watching to see how it reacts around $6.40 and decide from there. If we go through $6.40 my next target area for shorting will be $6.75 and will play it on the back side.

I'm also still long RGDO, LXRX and ARAY so I'll be managing those. A few names that look nice for swings soon are TTS, QNST, BCLI and WWWW. No plans on them yet, just stalking for now. Back burner trades I have AAL short, LOCO long, HLF long, CHGG long, NDRM long, MVIS short, VSTM short.

Hope everyone has a great week and let me know if ya have any questions!

Chris

Week in Review - 3/16/15 - 3/20/15

Hey y'all!

Nice week this week except for Friday, for me. Friday I was a bit red though I did hold a couple swings overnight which I think should start me off with a nice gain next week and make up for it! We shall see...just holding some RGDO and ARAY. I had a much better win rate this week, with 15/22 trades being wins for 68.18%. Much better than the previous week's. I think this was mostly due to following my rules better and getting away from stocks that were too illiquid. Gonna take the last two weekly reviews and post up my rules from them and just point out any mistakes I think I can work on for next week:

  • Stick to plans with conviction. Adjust slightly if plans change, but don't change too much. Always consider risk.

  • Keep exit orders on spready stocks a little looser so I don't end up missing the sell/cover by 1-2 pennies

  • Wait to short front side parabolics until they push through a round number, not UNDER a round number. This can be adjusted to through the quarter (.25, .75) if stock is under $10.00

  • No front-side parabolics, period on first day momentum

  • Keep sizing on front-side parabolics small for now as they are "experimental" trades

  • No "quick buck" trades (EPRS, TSEM) and stick with gut on trades that were not in my plan from the night before (PHMD)

  • Continue to avoid blatant disregard for planning (e.g. EPRS short at $11.25 when plan was to short $12+). A bit of adjustment may be required but not too much

  • WAKE UP ON TIME, DON'T BE A LAZY SHIT (AVEO, CREG)

  • Continue to keep morning positions to only 1-2 max, usually only 1 unless I am VERY confident in both trades.

  • Focus mostly on my own ideas

Overall I think this week went pretty well. I did still try to sneak in a couple of "quick buck" trades BUT my rules took over and I refused, only to see them fail which was awesome confirmation of why I have that rule! I added a new rule mid-way through the week to focus on more liquid stocks so I plan to keep doing that next week. Also, although this was a fairly smooth week I am going to make some adjustments for next week for a couple reasons:

  • I am going to start increasing my sizing again. I find that every now and then I start to get stagnant in my sizes and it causes me to be a bit too aggressive on targets. I found that last week there were a bunch of trades I was in and had pretty nice profits and ended up letting half the profit come back or just stopped out flat because I didn't have enough size to make it seem "worth it" to take partial profits. So in my never-ending quest to improve I am going to jack up sizes again like I did a couple weeks ago...No one ever made an omelet without breaking some eggs...so I plan to break some next week and make a big ass omelet lol

  • I'm also gonna try to reduce hesitation a bit this week. I noticed there were a bunch of times last week where I tried to get into a trade but hesitated too long and because of that ended up getting a partial fill. Gonna try to fix that this week and going forward. This kind of goes back to sticking to plans with conviction. Having that conviction requires no hesitation and any hesitation will affect my ability to get filled

Other than that I think everything was pretty solid. No major mistakes with the exception of misjudging how high CORT was able to go and needing to fix that mid-trade...I talked about that in my daily review on Thursday I think. Anyway, this review is probably a bit all over the place cause my thoughts are a bit scattered but I'm gonna get right into making my plan for next week so I can go into it aggressive and confident!

Feel free to ask any questions below if this seems convoluted or confusing!

What material has been most beneficial to your development?

Hi there reddit,

As a newbie trader I am very overwhelmed by the amount of resources available to me to learn how to effectively trade stocks. There seem to be endless amounts of books, videos, web-based services, etc.

So, I have come here to reddit to ask this question. To those of you who have learned how to trade effectively, what materials have been most beneficial to you? Feel free to mention books, websites, services, videos, mentors, or anything else. I want this to be a completely open discussion on stock trading resources so we can all get an idea of what is effective out of all the resources available to us traders today.

Thanks for reading!

Stocks I'm watching tomorrow, 3/20/15

Hi all!

Today was an interesting day. I actually started off with a big ass mistake so it took some serious emotional capital and skill to fix it...basically I severely misjudged how high CORT could go. So I started short at $5.36 per my plan ($5.30-5.50) but it kinda got away from me. I planned like I said to give it to $6 since I had no idea what it could do but even that wasn't enough! By the time it got over $6 it was skipping up 7-10c at a time so it was getting very scary! HOWEVER this is why I always start small...even though this was a big loss, it was still MANAGEABLE because I started into the trade with a size that allowed me to prepare for disaster. When trading front side parabolics this is absolutely critical. Because of the size, I was actually able to comfortably add more after it peaked in the $6.30s, with a stop over the high of day if it continued against me, and through some creative scalping I was able to bring my average up to $5.77 and actually cut the loss down to only $100! This is a huge thing for me because it proves that I was in complete control emotionally and was able to manage what could have been a huge loss down into a manageable loss. Even more compelling for this argument is that I was also still in my XOMA swing, my RGDO swing, and also had started a CLF long at $4.50 so I technically had four positions open (though only two were day trades per my rules to not have too many positions in the morning) and still was able to manage this loss effectively. CLF ended up being a small loss (long at $4.50 and cut it off at $4.37 under the low of day per my plan). Then I shorted NPTN at $6.24 and that was a killer, covering at $6.09 and $5.96 for a big gain and that was enough to bring me back to green for the day. So through solid emotional management, sticking to my plans and my rules I was able to finish nicely green today despite being completely wrong on CORT ... this kind of management and control is critical if you want to be a profitable trader and it takes a long ass time to develop it so today was kind of a milestone day for me since it proved that I have made a lot of progress in this area. In the past before I went full time and started teaching and really working on my planning/strategy, I would have crapped my pants and taken a $500-600 loss on CORT and probably went into tilt mode the rest of the day and been down $2000 by noon so this is huge! So anyway, really awesome day for me even though it was only a normal sized gain. BTW I also sold my XOMA swing today at $4.14 from $3.98 and $3.82 adds the last two days...if you remember I had $3.98 average and was able to snag a nice profit from $3.82 and bring my average to $3.90 and then bring shares down to the same size for the swing up to $4.14 today) ... anyway today there were a lot of awesome lessons. Here is my plan for tomorrow:

  • CORT - Cmon you guys didn't think I was giving up that easily did you? HA! I'll be watching for a morning push toward today's high in the $6.30s to start a short. HOWEVER I will not be starting on the front side this time. I want to see this push a bit and show some weakness even if it means I have to short it lower. It is clearly very extended so it needs to rest but it did give back quite a lot today so I think it will have a small rebound in the morning to squeeze out the early shorts (aka me, lol) and then should roll over. So I'll watch $6.30-6.50 for a topping pattern and go from there. For obvious reasons, I'll be very cautious on this one :)

  • GERN - Beautiful flag developing on the daily chart. I like it for a long in the $4.06 area with a stop under $4.00. The $4.20 level is probably the key followed by $4.25 ... after that should be a quick trip to $4.50. I will plan to take partial profits near $4.50 since it's a big level on the weekly and I'm not sure how much juice this will have left there after coming all the way from 4 bucks. If it does break $4.50 it could be nice but I think taking most profit there is probably a good idea. Just a quick note ... this can also be a short under $4.00 if it starts flattening out there during the day and I'm not opposed to playing the short if it sets up cleanly.

  • DENN - Awesome daily pattern on this and intraday it was setting up nicely right under the $12.07 daily high. I'm gonna prepare for two things: First, if it opens where it closed or nearby and immediately gets a volume push through $12 I will take it but with relatively small size because I'm not fully convinced this will hold since it's so extended on the 15 min chart. The other plan would be if it flops out of the gate (this actually would be better IMO) I will look to get long around $11.80-85 with a stop under today's low. In the second scenario it might need to be a swing to break that daily level. In the first I am ok with adding more once it proves that it will hold above $12 and develops an uptrend.

  • RGDO - She's back! I added for a swing in my bigger account today at $1.53 and plan to add more tomorrow if it pushes. Today was the first day it actually pushed over $1.50 and held there vs being sold off so it is breaking out of the 60 minute trend and holding. Also, last time it ran on a Friday so who knows ... maybe it's a Friday thing! Anyway I still have that small chunk in my Robinhood account and now I also have a bigger swing on top of that from $1.53 and my stop on that is under $1.37.

These are the only four I REALLY like...and even CORT is not that great anymore. For others I have some nice patterns isolated but they all still seem like they need more time or just will have to be played dynamically.

  • OREX watching over $7.65 for long

  • NPTN another short trap today...watching for push to $6.50-7 now for reshort

  • CHGG awesome daily...stalking it over $8.50 for a break to $8.80 -> $9.20 -> $9.80

  • CRIS watching for short near $2.90 for $2.75 breakdown

  • JRJC back on the radar for that $6.40 break soon

  • LXRX will probably buy this in Robinhood tomorrow if it stays in the area it closed in. Awesome daily and seems like easy money (as if there is such a thing, lol)

  • CAPN watching for short near $6.00 for $5.70 breakdown to sub-$5

  • PRAN nice push today ... could flag for a couple days and then break $1.31 for push toward $1.60

  • NDRM one of the few bios that hasn't gone yet...this is an extremely wild stock when it gets moving (note the 300% gain in a day on 12/30/14) so it has a lot of potential. Please be careful on this...I would stay away if you don't have at least a few yrs of experience trading. Picture what happened to me on CORT but 3x faster and 3x more volatile, lol

  • CALA looks awesome over $14 if it can set up intraday

  • HLF still watching over $38.20 for push through that big $39.30 resistance. $37.50 support held up today from my plan last night so still same idea there

Happy Friday!

Chris

My question to r/stockmarket is, if you were holding Allergan, what's your plan? The article says that they were acquired at a $70.5B valuation, but AGN's market cap right before the announcement was $71.25B. Not a big difference, but a difference in the wrong direction nonetheless. Are you keeping ACT? Or moving on?

Stocks I'm watching tomorrow, 3/19/15

Hi ladies and gents!

Well, my strategy change from last night paid off nicely.I took off ONP for a 2 cent loss at $1.60 since it was just stuck and I couldn't find enough liquidity to cover lower. I also doubled up my XOMA position at $3.82 and then sold some into the subsequent bounce so I now have the same number of shares I had but from a $3.90 average instead of $3.98, so I feel a lot better about that swing now. My plans on BITA and CYBR were almost dead on, with a couple small differences: On BITA I did get the bounce at $49.30 like I expected, but it was a quick rebound and didn't dance around under $49.50 like I expected it to so I didn't buy it there. Instead I waited for it to set up around $50 and bought it at $50.20 with a stop under $49.80, and then tightened the stop to $50 as soon as it started to show strength. This worked really well as the stock ran to high $51s by the end of the day and I sold around $51. I probably would have let it run longer if the plan had worked exactly like I expected but this was still pretty good and gave me a nice gain. CYBR I didn't end up trading because like I said I wanted that $54.50ish short but I also wanted to see if my idea was correct first. It did provide a decent short after 1pm like I expected but I didn't want to short anything until after the FOMC announcement, and if you look at SPY (and basically every other chart) at 2pm you'll see why, lol. Lastly I did trade MVIS but not til the afternoon at $3.98 and I only got filled on 100 shares, lol so I decided to take it off and try again tomorrow after sitting around for 25 min waiting for even another small piece of the order to fill so I could at least make 100 bucks or something! Figures, all that insane momentum all day and then when I try to short it it can't give me a single uptick to fill even 1000 shares, lol ... so anyway no biggie and I'll be after it again tomorrow! Also one last thing. I did short NVGN at $4.23 but only got partially filled and it couldn't crack $4 so I took it off for a small gain. The easy money was on the huge spike in pre-market but I wasn't up in time to catch it at $5+ since it was at like 7am. So overall really good day. I felt a LOT better trading these more liquid names and it kept the action exciting all day instead of sitting around waiting an hour for one quick 10-20 cent spike in a second like some of these thin suckers. I'm gonna try to stick with the same mentality for tomorrow...here's the plan!

  • MVIS - My number one watch for tomorrow...I will be looking for any morning push to short into. I would like to see a gap up but I doubt we'll get it...so I want to see it hold $4 and then squeeze back through it to $4.20-4.30 and that's where I'll look to start shorting. If it gaps down then I'd like to see it slowly grind back toward today's high and then make lower highs OR possibly hold under $4. Basically I'm just looking for it to show me any clear place I can put my stop.

  • CORT - Another parabolic short...right into weekly resistance above $5 and very extended on the daily. The only news I can find recently is their earnings on 3/4 and today they appointed a couple of new people to their board of directors. I couldn't find any reason for the gap on 3/11/15 so if anyone knows what caused it please let me know, but I didn't see anything ...not even a newsletter pump that I could find so it's a mystery! Anyway, I'm hoping for a gap up since it closed strong...would love to see $5.30-5.50 in premarket to start short and work it out from there. Initial risk will be to $6 since I have no idea what the stock is capable of and can't find any reason for the move. If it gaps down I will watch for a slow grind back toward today's high to start a short w/ risk over $5.25-5.30. If it gaps down and immediately pushes strongly back to today's high I will wait for it to go parabolic through the high and/or play the back side of the move since we don't really know what is possible yet.

  • CLF - The move in this today was clearly driven by the fed announcement, but it might have been the catalyst needed to get a bounce started. If you look at TC you'll see a similar daily chart that had an awesome bounce off lows which is what I am looking for on CLF. I'll be watching for any dip in the morning to hold and then show some volume out of it, whether it's on a gap down, gap up or otherwise. Since the chart's a bit extended intraday I'd like to see a pullback to $4.40-4.50 ideally and then dance around a bit and reclaim. I think this could be a quick trip to $5+ if it can hold a morning pullback and go red to green or even gap up and hold the first dip. Just a heads up: It will also require market strength, so if SPY is going sideways and stays in a tight range there are probably better stocks to trade.

  • HLF - Nice move today right into big daily resistance in the $39.20-30 range...If HLF can pull back in the morning and hold $37.50 or so it could reclaim it and really run over today's high. So I'll be watching to see if it holds $37.50 in the morning to get long in that area w/ a stop under the low. In the event of a gap up I will watch for a gap fill to get bought back up in the same fashion, except I'd like to see the dancing action around $39 instead of $37.50.

Take into consideration that I'm still trying to feel these bigger stocks out so some of the targets and levels may be really far off...I recommend against following my trade ideas on any of these for a while since, frankly, I don't know what the fuck I'm doing with them, lol. However today seemed to work ok so I'm happy to continue the learning curve! Other stuff I have on watch:

  • RGDO watching for that $1.50 break...if this has too many more wussy closes I will take it off. I will update my robinhood subreddit whenever I make changes to the account. So far though I am still just holding this RGDO and haven't seen anything else worth buying.

  • NPTN watching for parabolic short $6.30-6.50

  • ESPR wild range on this bad boy...it has provided some clean long setups the last two days so I'll be watching w/ long bias, and will probably leave it alone otherwise. Way too big to short it safely for me (mainly due to the huge spread when it gets moving and fact that I cannot trade odd lots) - even 100 shares on this could be upwards of $500-1000 risk if it goes against me on a short so I will stay away from shorting it unless the spread gets really tight and the stock calms down.

  • CRMD watching for short under $8.30

  • NVGN any morning upward rush is an opportunity to short for crack of $4 and continued fade. Four times now the company has released basically the same PR and four times the same thing happened. Just a pump job to build hype so they can eventually do a secondary offering.

  • DRRX flagging...may have another leg up soon. Someone here pointed out despite it being parabolic there have been some big insider buys lately (200-500k shares). I confirmed this.

  • OHRP bounce watch over $9.10

  • SIGM watching that pullback for swing entry off $7.50 previous breakout.

  • QIHU possible bounce continuation over $49

Thanks all and hope everyone is having a great week!

Chris

Time to Invest in Chinese Renewable Energy?

Yesterday Chinese solar stocks rallied on strong volume despite the recent news of the European Commission investigating the possibility of lifting the minimum price agreement for several China based solar module suppliers, which would impose tariffs up to 47% on modules entering the EU.

The reason for the rally is that the Chinese National Energy Administration (NEA) released its official solar installation target for 2015, with a higher than expected target of 17.8GW (up 20% from the original goal of 15GW).

This seems to boost solar consumption and offset slow demand from the eurozone, trading disputes with the US, in addition to fighting China's pollution problem. Might this be a good entry point for Chinese solar stocks? Notably CSIQ (Canadian Solar), which just released plans to convert some of their projects into a Yield Co?

Stocks I'm watching tomorrow, 3/18/15

Heyooo!

Not a bad day today though it started off a bit slow. JUNO didn't really give me a chance to get in where I wanted since it was so freakin spready, as expected, and I did end up trying it a little higher but took a small loss on it. My main trade was RMGN which I nailed at $1.88 and sold 2.06, 2.18 and the last 1/3 at 2.06 after it broke the flag. Guess I was being a little greedy lol but oh well. I've noticed the last few days that these low liquidity names don't seem to be working as well as before so I am gonna change it up a little for tomorrow. I've got a swing short in ONP from $1.58 average and another long on XOMA at $3.98 which I plan to add to tomorrow if it dips. ONP I wanted to cover today but it was just too illiquid so I had to hold overnight (this is one of the reasons I'm pulling away from stuff that is so illiquid). Also to be frank, I'm getting bored w/ this stuff because it hasn't been very active the last couple days and takes freakin forever to even make 100 or 200 bucks so I feel like I'm working at McDonalds! Oh also today I took off my NKA swing for a loss at $1.79 ... no use holding if it's not gonna cooperate but I gave it a good chance and decided it wasn't worth another night. So, anyway tomorrow I'm gonna be trying to focus on more liquid names that will move faster and more cleanly so I don't have to babysit them and stare at level 2 all day, lol...here's the plan:

  • CYBR - Since I am not the best at planning on this type of stock I will be very cautious, but my initial feeling on this is short. It seems to have a pretty strong pivot spot at $53.30 so I'm hoping it continues the run from today through that w/o any rest, and runs into $54.50-55 resistance for the short. I don't plan to short this on the front side...going to wait for probably an afternoon play. In fact I will just say right now I will not short this before 1pm. No exceptions! If I miss the trade then oh well. Going to study the result and decide what to do from there.

  • BITA - I would like to see a pullback and red to green on this similar to what it did on 3/16 around 11am but I am making two separate plans for two levels I think it could pull that kinda move. First I think I could see it bouncing off $49.30-49.50 so I will see how it reacts around there. What'd be ideal is to see it break $49.50 and dance around for a bit under it, then reclaim it and go from there. If it does that I will get long back through $49.50 whenever the volume starts to come in with a stop under whatever lows it puts in there...which I'm guessing will be prob $49.20-30. If that doesn't work I am willing to revisit again where it broke out today, around $48.50, with the same exact plan but $1 lower, and stop under $48.20. If it takes off right out of the gate I'm ok still executing these same plans as long as it doesn't take out $50.50 and hold. If it does take out $50.50 and hold then I will basically play it the same way over $50.50 with a stop under the low of the day. So I have three possible scenarios since I'm not sure how this will act but these are the three most likely things I can see. Anything else and I will leave it alone.

  • MVIS - Stock is parabolic into big weekly resistance. Ideal scenario on this is a gap up to $3.70-$3.80. In that case I will start short in premarket with a plan to give it to over $4.00 but ideally be able to keep the stop over the premarket highs. If it gaps down I will not touch it in premarket and will wait for it to go red to green and take out $3.70-4 for the short. Since this stock is under $10 I'm making an adjustment to my rule of only shorting through round numbers and going to go for quarters instead...so for now anything under $10.00 I will be watching for resistance not only at .00 and .50, but also .75. It seems a lot of these overshoot the first round number but aren't quite able to make it to the next one so splitting it in half makes sense. We shall see how it works tomorrow. I'm going to try to be a bit more aggressive on these also on my starter size because I've found myself often being greedy even on the starter position the last couple weeks and I think it's cause I'm not trading them big enough. So I will size up maybe 20-30% but not going to go nuts and double sizes or anything.

Sorry for being so wordy tonight ... just want to really get this stuff out there and be focused since I am trying to tweak my game to get to the next level. I think I need to focus on fewer stocks, more liquid stocks, and have better focus on them so I can be more aggressive so that's what I'm going for.

After I cover this short in ONP tomorrow I won't be trading anything else like this for a while unless it's in Robinhood and for a swing trade. For day trades they just suck lately. I am still ok trading stuff under 300-500k shares as long as they have good relative volume but no more of this 50k bullshit ... I can't even trade enough size w/o moving the stock myself to make it worth it so I'm gonna focus on putting my sizeable trades into more liquid names, preferably w/ bigger range like CYBR, BITA, maybe even ZIOP stuff like that. Not really opposed to playing low-priced stuff like I always have but I think to get to the next level I need to change it up a bit...so let's see how it works starting tomorrow!

Hope y'all had a good day and let me know if you have any tips for trading this type of stuff, especially if you are a full time trader or trade the more liquid names. Not to toot my own horn but in the last year I have become a fucking MASTER at reading level 2 on these thin garbage stocks and can usually break block trades on them myself and nail a perfect entry but that strategy isn't scalable to the sizes I want to trade and the money I want to make so I'm gonna try to get better at some of these other ones. Anyway enough rambling. Have a good night everyone!

Chris
