Stocks I'm watching tomorrow, 4/1/14!

Hey everyone!

Another range day in the market but at least we held the gap and actually seemed somewhat bullish for most of the day, and closed above the 20dma on the daily! Small cap momentum continues to be scarce but today we had a few nice runners, mostly news stuff, in BIOF and TEVA. Also ALIM finally broke out through that 7.70 level and held and VIMC from my list yesterday went for a nice rip. I just took it for a small experimental play with 100 shares but it worked great and I made 10% despite the small size. Overall I had a pretty good day demonstrating good reward to risk with a 3/5 win rate, a couple very small losses and one nice win in BIOF to close the day with 150 bucks in gains. I'm really hoping the market picks up soon so I can start laying more size on these things, as these $150 days are getting really boring but I just can't justify taking a ton of risk when the market is going sideways. Anyway, there isn't much on my scanner but here are a couple ideas:

  • ALIM long for a continuation over highs. It's probably clear to like $8.50 for now. Nice volume expansion today.

  • VIMC long for a continuation. I thought this sucker was dead after I took it from $4.24 to $4.67 but it revived itself in the last two candles on huge volume so I will continue to watch tomorrow.

  • TEVA long for a continuation

  • ARTX short (looks like they missed earnings after hours)

Hope everyone had a nice day!

Chris

Netflix, Inc. Declines Again: Buy It Here

Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) continues to decline today. The stock is trading at $351.62 -7.25 (- 2.02%). After topping out at $458 a share, the stock has fallen by 23% in a month. Many investors are too scared to go near it, just after they were buying at the all time highs so eagerly. Smart investors are starting to look for a great entry. The level for entry is a major gap fill along with the 200 moving average. This level is $334. Expect a strong bounce off this level for a week or two.

Stocks I'm watching tomorrow, 3/31/14!

Hey guys and girls, I'm back!

We had a kinda weird week in the markets. I finished basically flat for the week as it was just up one day, down the next, over and over and nothing really moved. I hardly even traded at all and the few times I did the trades just did nothing. I made like $200 on Friday and that was it haha. Hopefully this week we get some more movement and maybe some confirmation on a direction for the overall market! I also spent a lot of the weekend finishing up my psychological warfare class which I'm pretty pumped about - it's gonna be focused on handling our emotions better in our trading to extract maximum profit by trading more confidently and aggressively! If any of you guys who are trading daily or even swing trading are interested let me know and I'll hook ya up with a Reddit member discount or something! I only have a couple things on my list for tomorrow as the market's been so weird there hasn't really been anything setting up, but I did find a couple gems!

  • VIMC long over $4.10 this sucker looks explosive and is one of the few small caps that has held up through the turmoil

  • CLR long over highs as it had a pretty nice breakout on the daily to go with XLE. Oil and gas companies seem to be setting up nicely here

  • ARTX long over $6.34 for a flag breakout

  • PLUG long over $7.20ish for a bounce.

  • KERX long over $17.30 for a flag break/continuation.

Hope everyone has a great week!

Beginner question inside. What are the mechanics of stock price ?

I read on some books that this is determined by supply and demand. and On some other who give concrete example that if there is only 2 traders one with a ask of let's say $25 and the other with bid of 23$ for a securities at $24, there is no trade and the price doesn't move. Then an other investor place a buy order market and then he buys at $25 and the price move to $25.

But this is two different principle. I can imagine a lot of sell order in the book for a few buy order. Following the supply demande principle the price should fall. But following the second principle if the sell market orders are fulfilled at a higher buy price, the price should go up.

Does someone have a clear explanation of the mechanics that makes price move up and down ? I don't think there is an algorithm also cause at the time of no computer when people traded on the Pit how the price was recorded I have no idea, and who determined the price ??

Is it safe to use chart-technicals from the past year?

Since 2013 was one of the most linear upward years in the stock market, is it safe to use it when using technical chart trends? My reason for doubt comes when looking at the 10 year chart there is a slight slope up followed by a dramatic move up in 2013. Is there an enormous correction due a la '08 '11? It seems that using indicators from trends in 2013 might be dangerous considering that was a gang-busters "fluke" bull-crazy year.

background: I'm interested in buying into small-caps during this pull-back while everyone is fearful.

Exelixis - Thoughts and comments

Over the past couple of weeks I've been looking into bio-tech companies to diversify my assets. Yesterday I stumbled on Exelixis becaue of a tumble (22%) they took after they did not end trials. Now like I said I'm new into the bio-tech field so my questions are thus:

  1. What does it really mean that they didn't get out of trial staging early / are there many other competitors in the market that this delay will really effect.

  2. What are the thoughts on a buy for long term at this stage?

Futures contact - "continuation X months"?

According to my backtests it is more profitable to trade on Coffee futures contracts that is "continuation 4 months" than "continuation 2 months" and least profitable is "continuation 1 months".

However I don't really understand what "continuation X months" mean, my guess is that when a contract expires you buy a new one with expiration date 4 months forward, is this correct?

Is "continuation 4 months" potentially more profitable because it is more far in the future and therefore has more potential?

How do you buy "continuation 4 months" practically, do you just do it manually?

I am very confused.

According to this: http://ift.tt/1dvHA3Z today is the last day to get GOOG is going to do a stock split for owners that invest by today.

If I plan to buy google stock anyways in the future, is it beneficial for me to buy today? Do stocks rise after a split because a lower PPS allows lower income people to buy in?

Is anyone else buying GOOG today?

I'm Alive!

Hey guys. I've been getting some PMs asking me if I'm dead since I haven't been posting my "stocks I'm watching tomorrow" threads...lol

So, yes I am alive and well. I have actually been working my ass off at night trying to develop a scan that will find intraday patterns for me, for the last few days, so I haven't even scanned for anything at night and have just been trading intraday movers. The market is kinda boring right now anyway and I'm just grinding around making 100 bucks here and there so it's not very exciting to post. I will be back soon though...hopefully I will get this scanner finished in the next few days and then can start scanning at night again! :)

Thanks for the concern though...nice to know if I got murdered that Reddit would eventually call the police. Haha

Facebook buys Oculus for $2B

Wow!

So many pissed off people in /r/oculus right now!

MENLO PARK, Calif., March 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Facebook today announced that it has reached a definitive agreement to acquire Oculus VR, Inc., the leader in immersive virtual reality technology, for a total of approximately $2 billion. This includes $400 million in cash and 23.1 million shares of Facebook common stock (valued at $1.6 billion based on the average closing price of the 20 trading days preceding March 21, 2014 of $69.35 per share). The agreement also provides for an additional $300 million earn-out in cash and stock based on the achievement of certain milestones.

Oculus is the leader in immersive virtual reality technology and has already built strong interest among developers, having received more than 75,000 orders for development kits for the company's virtual reality headset, the Oculus Rift. While the applications for virtual reality technology beyond gaming are in their nascent stages, several industries are already experimenting with the technology, and Facebook plans to extend Oculus' existing advantage in gaming to new verticals, including communications, media and entertainment, education and other areas. Given these broad potential applications, virtual reality technology is a strong candidate to emerge as the next social and communications platform.

SOL on earnings beat, NUS on news that company is not banned from selling in China and fine was less than expected, and HLF I'm not sure why it's gapping up but probably some BS about this battle between Icahn and Ackman, lol so it's fun to trade regardless.

Other solars might go off SOL posting profit also, so watch CSIQ, JASO, JKS, RGSE, SPWR, SCTY, FSLR and any other solars you can think of :)

Stocks I'm watching tomorrow, 3/24/14!

Yo yo!

Fade day in the markets on Friday with SPY testing that $188 level and then doing a bit of a nosedive into the close, but made for some great short opps in ITMN, ECYT, DDD and others. My strategy currently doesn't allow shorting but I cheated a bit at the end of the day anyway and shorted ITMN, lol so I finished flattish but overall not a bad day. I just didn't do much trading at all until late in the day and then I ended up with quite the slippage on my SIMO long so that sucked, but like I said was able to counteract with a late day short in ITMN. I am a bit unsure of what to expect from the market as for the last few weeks it has just been very indecisive but as long as we hold above that 50dma I will be slightly long-biased. I had a great weekend celebrating a bday for a friend and then attending a pretty awesome event entitled "Men Doing Manly Things" where we went and rented full auto machine guns, then had a smoker cookout w/ BBQ ribs, steak, sausage, bacon, beer and cigars, so I currently smell like a campfire and am high on testosterone, all ready for Monday aggression and money-making! My watchlist is pretty slim again but there were a few names I found that might be worth watching:

  • PTX parabolic short setup

  • MNGA long for intraday trades

  • ABTL short continuation under lows

I will also be watching intraday movers like earnings and news plays as always, and most of my plays will probably come from there. That being said, stay agile out there and remember that when the market is moving sideways it is often better to sit on your hands than to force trades. All we need is a couple decent months of rallying and we can hammer everything and blow our accounts sky high when the opportunities are there. Most traders in my experience over trade and kill their accounts in this type of market, so I tend to focus only on the HOTTEST setups and only trade when I am willing to really lay the hammer down.

Hope everyone had a great weekend and has a great week!

Chris

Thoughts on Exelon (EXC)?

Exelon corp is having a good day today, up over 4% early in the day. Up about 24% over the last 6 months. How are shares in bigger energy corporations stacking up against the PLUGs of the world?

I entered EXC at about $35 per share almost 2 years ago, thoughts on where/when I should be looking to get out? After their dividend cut last year it's just not my cup of tea. Thanks for any advice.

My dad and I have a trading account, and after all his losses over his lifetime, he's now considering just dumping money straight in into Berkshire Hatheway's B stock (BRK.B) [cross-post: /r/investing]

Quick Link to stock

He's looking at that, knows Buffet isn't exactly an idiot, and was thinking of just buying it and leaving it for a few years. Return of about 125% in five years which is pretty good.

Being that they own tonnes of companies that can all work together, you are sort of "second hand diversified" if you will, but are still in one stock and one number.

Does this sound logical? The only thing is that it feels "too easy" but the track record looks good, and it seems like all that you would need to do is check the stock once a week even to get general trending, sell if you think that it's going to slump a couple percent, grab it on the turn. It doesn't move exceedingly fast in that regard.

Any thoughts would be welcome!

Eddit for clarity, this would be about 80+ percent of the portfolio.

Stocks I'm watching tomorrow, 3/21/14!

Oye vey what a day!

After everyone freaked out about Yelle's comments yesterday, the bulls came right back in today to bounce the market strongly and close near highs. This is great action if you're a bull. We have heavy resistance at $188 on SPY so hopefully we can push through and hold above that tomorrow. I had a bit of a crazy day as I started out w/ $500 in losses on two quirky trades but stayed aggressive throughout and was able to get back to almost flat with a nice trade in ASTM for $400+, but unfortunately trading bigger sizes is expensive so I got eaten by commission today. There are a couple things I could have done better but emotions took over a bit and caused me to bail flat on the 2nd time I hit SVA, I guess since I had taken a loss on it already, and it was acting sketchy, lol. Anyway, I finished the day down about 100 bucks , so again no biggie, just part of the game in building up a new strategy. I keep seeing hints of great things coming with gains like that $500 whopper in RAX the other day, 17+% in CUR and the $400 in ASTM today. These are all still relatively small sizes (2-3k shares) compared to where I see this going (30-50k blocks) so being able to maintain a $100 loss is actually pretty good. Anyway, as always, gonna just keep chugging along and soon I'll be exploding this account to Juuuuuupiter!!! Hopefully This is helping some people out there learn the importance of risk management too. Here are some ideas for tomorrow:

  • BIOF long. This SUCKER! I took 2k shares at 3.74 at 10:25am and it crapped itself 10 min later for a $265 loss, only to reverse and blow through $3.74 to 4 bucks at the end of the day lol. I will get my revenge just like I did on GALT though! Muwahaha!

  • ALIM once again triggered my $7 alert indicating it is still trying to break that level. I have my eye on this like a hawk for when it breaks and I reset my alert every night. Only a matter of time just like I said with CUR and GALT.

  • MXWL on watch for intraday trades if it starts to bounce off this clean 2-day pullback.

  • PEIX long over $16.30. Make sure this one has volume to back it up as it is up a bunch of days in a row so it will need some juice to push through highs w/ force.

  • SPLS still watching short under $11.14. It looks ugly.

  • ANAC long over highs for a range breakout to new highs.

  • IQNT long over $14.60 for a breakout/bounce play

  • SNSS long over $7.50 for a flag breakout.

  • CJJD long over $2.35 for a continuation.

A lot of these are not going to be ready so I just have alerts set and am watching them passively. A lot of momentum names are getting pretty exhausted now so it is difficult to find stuff to trade. The best way to handle this kind of market in my experience, if you're day trading, is to focus on strong intraday movers with catalysts: earnings news, FDA clearance, upgrades, downgrades, etc. You can find a list each morning of the big gappers at http://ift.tt/OGqZ1X (look at the pre-market section) to get an idea of what will be in play that day. The only things I see that will probably be ready to take action tomorrow are BIOF and CJJD. Be aware that both of those are going to be very risky/volatile plays so I don't recommend anyone who is a beginner messing with them. Other than that I am only playing what comes across my scanner.

Ok that's it! Hope everyone has a good day!

Chris

I am looking to make some of my first investments. Any tips?

I figured that some of you here at /r/stockmarket have your trading down. I am looking for something that would potentially be a long term investment. I have currently been looking at Tesla stock; as they have plans to start supplying their own lithium batteries by 2017.

I have never invested before, and would consider myself extremely novice. I am still in high school and figured now would be a good time to learn the ropes.

“I was 200 meters out and this dark mass just appeared in front of me,” says photographer David Sheridan, who was kitesurfing off Valla Beach, on Australia’s east coast. “Next thing, I get this almighty whack in the back of my head.” Luckily, the native Aussie’s kite pulled him away just as the tail of this southern right whale struck him. How did he get the shot? He’d attached a camera to his kite and programmed it to shoot at ten-second intervals. #tbt March, 2009 Exposure | OutsideOnline.com by outsidemagazine

Stocks I'm watching tomorrow, 3/20/14!

Hey everyone!

Tricky day in the market today. Most of the morning was spent waiting for Yellen's comments so the market was stuck in a box until about 2pm, then it finally went nutty after the FOMC minutes release. My day was pretty much flat as most stuff just kinda ground around all day, so I was a bit cautious (probably a bit too cautious) and didn't really capitalize where I needed to. Anyway, still made about 50 bucks or so. The scans are a bit limited but here are some ideas for tomorrow!

  • CTIC long for swing entry ... I took a small starter position in another account at $4.00 today.

  • PPHM on watch for bounce over $2.40 area

  • INO on watch for continuation, probably over $3.95.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Stocks I'm watching tomorrow!

Hey hey guys and girls!

I have no idea what happened in in the market today. Most of my money was made from buying stuff in 2008-2010 and I just realized those gains over the last year, up 10X+. I expect some thing will happen, and some things might not happen, so I'm just gonna keep on ignoring everything that's happening. There isn't anything on my scanner, since I don't have a scanner, so I'm enjoying a few nice movies and going to the gym. Anyway, here are some ideas for tomorrow:

LONG BONDS

Hope y'all are having a super decade so far!

DISCLAIMER: I am an investor. LONG means LONG. SHORT means SHORT. I post these here because I'm actually long/short stuff. These are ACTUAL positions and are traded with 99% of the positions being closed by the end of the next decade. One other thing...any recommendations should be taken.

Stocks I'm watching tomorrow, 3/19/14!

Hey hey guys and girls!

Another bounce day in the market today. Most of the money to be made was in the morning and I didn't really capitalize so I finished the day down a little bit, bout 150 bucks , but no biggie. After a nice $500+ day yesterday it's ok! I expect we continue to see rangebound/choppy action until we get over highs again so I'm just gonna keep on chuggin. There isn't much on my scanner so I am kinda scraping the bottom of the barrel for plays here and I'm mostly not playing these ideas but rather playing intraday movers instead. Anyway, here are some ideas for tomorrow:

  • SGMO over $24.12 for a flag breakout

  • MSO getting closer to that $5.35 area. I think this will go in the next couple days.

  • OHRP long over $20

  • ADEP and PVA on watch for continuations

  • CTIC on watch for swing entry still

  • BIOF on watch for intraday plays

  • IQNT long for a bounce off the 20dma.

Hope y'all are having a good week so far!

Just started to jump on the fuel cell energy bandwagon it seems like. I'm just trying a short amount of money into this so here is what I did. Feedback? Suggestions?

On March 17th I purchased 15 shares of BLDP for $5.28

Today it went down 8.29%.

and

15 Shares of PLUG power. The stock went down 8.45% today

However should I buy more because you think the stock is going to sore up? Price is low. Basic investing. BUY LOW. SELL HIGH.

Twitter Advice

Hi! First post in this sub, let me know if I'm doing it wrong.

Anyway, kind of a two part question here. I just took over managing my father's portfolio, since he's not too interested in trading himself and I've been doing fairly well with my own portfolio the past couple years. He picked up Twitter when it was up at 58 dollars (luckily when I sold it myself), and it's just been pummeling ever since. I'm not really sure if I should hold onto it, hope for a recovery, or just cut my losses.

Would love to hear input, as well as a more general answer to "when do you normally drop a particular stock and cut your losses?"

Thanks!

Putin Blinks, So Is It Time To Buy Into Russia?

Earlier today, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a treaty to annex the breakaway Ukrainian region of Crimea. Putin then went onto say, “Don’t believe those who say Russia will take other regions after Crimea. We don’t need that.” These words have seemed to calm down the stock market today. Just look at the way the stock market is rallying in the United States and Europe during today's trading session. Risk-on trading is back, at least for the time being.

So is it time to buy into the Russian stock market again? This morning, the Market Vectors Russia ETF (RSX) is trading higher by nearly 4.0 percent to $23.35 a share. The RSX put in a near term bottom on March 13, 2014 at $20.86 a share, so traders can easily see the short term momentum in the RSX is to the upside. Traders and investors should watch for major daily chart resistance around the $26.00 level for the RSX if it trades up to that level. After all, this coming Friday is the monthly options expiration for the month of March, so we often see beaten down equities catch a bid into the expiration. President Putin also has a tendency to rescind what he says after a few days. Traders should expect the RSX to start to decline around the $26.00 if it can trade that high, this could be a good shorting level for aggressive traders.

Penny stocks. Entry level trading and low budget.

So I just made my first trading account with a very low budget while I learn the ins and outs of the market. I bought stock in Activision before Diablo III expansion is released at the end of the month. Got in at 19.92 and currently at 21.23.

Question I have is with a low budget is it worth messing with penny stocks to learn and trade. The fees are what I'm worried about. Buying and selling is 20$ worth of fees and that seems like it would cut into any profit. How do you guys handle penny stocks?

Some swing trade ideas!

Hey y'all. I have had a bunch of people ask me for swing trade ideas so I am gonna occasionally post stuff I'm stalking for swing entry just so people can get them on their watchlists. These won't be ready yet, just stuff I'm watching, and I will try to post if I buy any of them. Most will be short swings, probably just a few days or a week, but wanted to give people a heads up anyway.

So right now the few that I'm watching are IDRA, INO, IDIX and ALIM. They are the closest I think for entry. I try to buy these on dips and average into a position before the breakout. So I might buy some ALIM around 7 bucks to get a starter position in, then add as it moves up. Ultimate targets for now will be as follows:

  • ALIM to $8.50

  • IDIX to $8.50

  • INO to $4.30

  • IDRA to $7.20

Let's get a discussion going about what you're all watching for swings too!

Stocks I'm watching tomorrow, 3/18/14!

Hi everyone!

Nice bounce day in the markets today. Intraday action was kinda rangebound so I didn't trade much, just closed out my swing in CUR and added a day trade on top of it to close the day with about $530 in gains . I also paper traded YOD and tested out my rules on 4 other trades which were all wins for $1060 in gains. So, total today assuming I followed all rules as developed brought about $1920 in gains which is pretty damn awesome! I'm pumped this is starting to fall into place and am excited to see the growth in the near future. I anticipate probably another consolidation day tomorrow and more choppy action until we get over highs in SPY and can make another strong bull run. That being said, here are some things to watch for tomorrow:

  • YOD I am still holding 100 of this from $5.62 but will be watching long for entry intraday for day trades. It looks like it will most likely gap up and run like CUR did today, just be careful as this one ran hard today so it could fade quickly.

  • SSI long for a range breakout over $25.30-25.50 area.

  • CBMX long for a continuation

  • KFY long for a bounce

  • IDRA long over $6.25 for a range breakout (looks almost identical to INO and same sector too)

  • MSO still watching long over $5.35 for a flag breakout

  • YPF long over $29.25 for a range breakout

  • MXWL long for a flag break (prob over $14.50)

  • SCCO short under $27.20 for a bear flag breakdown

  • CCRN short under $8 - it triggered my alert after hours so it may gap down but if it does I'll just be watching for intraday setups.

Hope everyone has a great day tomorrow!

Chris

As a university failure myself this is a huge motivation. But I don't have much knowledge about the whole stock market, especcially FX/ Day Trading is a huge mystery for me.

Atm I am reading some basci stuff, but let's say I have 10-15k by the end of the year and enough time to read a lot and do some paper trading, any chance I could make it? Or is this whole story too good to be true? I am aware that there is no such thing as a shortcut to become rich, but I am willing to invest some time/ take some risks if it's not pointless.

(I am planning to go back to university, but still haven't figured out what I am going to study, and probably will never find a career that I really like)

PHOT is trading at $0.76 and has had some insane gains over the past couple of weeks. I bought in at $0.03, then around $0.30 for quite modest sums of cash and I'm thinking about investing a whole lot more after what I've seen. I'm pretty new to the market, I just started in June 2013. Is this a good decision, or is this just hype right now?

Ukraine and Crimea issue is heating up, but are the investors really worried? How big of an issue can it be on monday?

So i read the following update on Yahoo http://ift.tt/1p245xi

Personally i read and learn that Crimea will most likely join Russia (given that at least 40% of inhabitants are russian) so that may indeed lead to further sanctions. But i dont see everyone being on a hype about sell-off and downturn. The markets crossed below the 20 day moving average and had several red days already. Anyone else pulling the plugs on their high risk investments?

Stocks I'm watching tomorrow, 3/17/14!

Hey hey y'all!

Hope everyone had an awesome weekend. I totally forgot it was St. Patty's Day until like 10pm Saturday night and everyone on my Facebook feed started posting pics of themselves in green shirts, lol. Soooo yea I did nothing like a loser. Oh well. Probably a good thing considering I blew up 765 bucks on Friday! Haha!

The action on Friday was pretty trendless, though we were tapping lows and making lower highs all day so I could definitely see a push down to the 183 area tomorrow in SPY. My own trading was actually really good, I just had three losses in a row and was being very aggressive per our strategy development, plus a bit of slippage, so I am ok with the loss. I've shared all the trades (and updated everything from the last month) here so you can go check out my thought process on them and understand how I manage emotions to make consistent money. After reviewing all my trades from the last month or so I've realized that before this last week when I joined up w/ my new trading partner, I was developing some pretty bad habits, so I am glad I did the review and will try to stay on top of that more from now on. I plan to continue the aggressive strategy this week and hopefully will have good results, but time will tell! Here are some things to watch:

  • CUR long intraday - my swing in this from $3.70 is starting to take off so I believe it will probably gap up tomorrow and run. If it doesn't gap and dips I may add more.

  • INO long for a bounce

  • PPHM long over $2.41 for a bounce

  • CTIC similar look to CUR. Long over $4.25 but tomorrow around this level would actually be a good swing entry. I might take some if it holds in this area - just need to check when earnings/news are coming up

  • MSO for a flag break long over $5.30ish

  • CRAY long for a range breakout. Price will have to be determined intraday as it keeps wicking up and failing, but it is closing higher and higher so I'll be watching for a hint of strong volume to decide when it it is ready.

  • ENTA long over $41.24 for a range breakout

Hope everyone has a great week!

Chris

Stocks I'm watching tomorrow, 3/14/14!

Well, it looks like we got our pullback. Now, let's see some bounce! Today was a (IMO) much needed down day to reset some charts, allow people to take profits, and rest a bit before ultimately breaking to new highs. We might see a couple consolidation days now while the shorts take their profits but I believe this is just a normal fluctuation and is healthy action for a bull market. Until the major trend is broke I'll remain bullish overall, but bearish as required in the shorter term.

I had a decent day today despite there not being much to trade. We laid on some size and had pretty decent results so we'll continue that tomorrow. I closed with around $400 in gains after one loss negated by a solid $500+ short in RAX. This is risk management at work. Keeping losses small and letting winners run. I look forward to watching this strategy and profits grow now that my partner and I are starting to fall in sync w/ each other and with our rules that we're developing together. In the mean time here are some more things to watch tomorrow, though there aren't many!

  • YOD long. Nice volume expansion today. This will need a good intraday setup but usually big moves start with a small volume expansion like today...we saw the same thing in OPTT a few days ago before it exploded 62% to $7 from my original entry at $4.29.

  • SYN long over $3.05 for a flag breakout

  • PVG long over $7.22 for a continuation.

  • MSO not ready yet but I'll mention it again in case anyone missed the first time - long over $5.30ish for a flag breakout when it gets there.

  • SPLS short under $11.14 for a bear flag breakdown (this is actually more of a short continuation )

  • CCRN short under $8.10 for a bear flag breakdown.

Also I'm watching all the gold/miner stocks like ANV, MUX, GG, etc since when the market poops gold usually pops. ANV and MUX took off from my calls a couple days ago but I didn't take either. This stuff is still worth watching for trade opportunities during the day. Alright that's all I got! Hope everyone has a great day!

DISCLAIMER: I am a day/swing trader. LONG means I'm expecting price to go up, not that it's a long term trade. SHORT means I'm expecting price to go down, not that it's a short term trade. Just because I post these here does not necessarily mean I'm buying/shorting them. They are ONLY ideas, may not be traded at all, and if I do take them, 99% of the positions will be closed by the end of the day. One other thing...any swing recommendations should be taken w/ extreme caution - lock in some profits as I am not checking these to see if they have earnings or anything before posting, so if they do they could make crazy moves. Do your own DD on them. If ya have any questions, feel free to ask below and as always, share your ideas too. The more the merrier!

Thinking About a Defence Sector play. Anything interesting?

Much to our dismay, I think bullets are going to start flying in other parts of the world very shortly. So, I was thinking about making a defense play, and am looking for any recommendations you all might have. So far I'm thinking about:

ATK TASR GD RGR BA

Any thoughts or suggestions? I'm mostly interested in things that keep people safe - not kill them, which all of those above could be either.

Portugal for 2014 (Stock Funds)

The Portuguese market took a pretty big downfall since end 2009 to beginning of 2012. Since then it seems to have been recovering rather well (PSI20 +28% in the last year).

I've been hearing mostly good news about the Portuguese economy and an investment in a index/mutual fund is rather tempting. What's your opinion on this market?

Morrisons - UK investors

I bought about £500 of Morrisons shares a few days ago on the hunch that they were undervalued and that there was too much fear in the market for their upcoming financial statements. They do have good management structure on giving a hefty portion of retained earnings to shareholders too.

Boy was I wrong. They've lost 11% today and their plans look to be to reign in their market, sell off a few of their sites and trying and consolidate on their new weaker market share.

Simple question: hold or sell?

What's the deal with RUSL?

I was thinking of picking up some NYSEARCA:RUSL today since it's taken a huge hit from the Crimea debacle, and that smells like a buying opportunity. However I noticed that the fund has performed almost entirely negatively since it opened in May of 2011, and is now down over 90% from its initial price.

Has Russia really experienced a consistent decline in stock prices since May of 2011? Or is RUSL not accurately tracking the performance (x3) of Russian stocks?

Sorry if this is a basic question. I just don't understand ETFs very well.

Stocks I'm watching tomorrow, 3/13/14!

Hey guys and girls!

Well, although we had another rather boring day in the market itself, with it stuck in a tiny range for most of the day, it was promising to see a little gap down and then buying action which indicates to me that the bulls are still in control. My partner and I finally nailed down a good day with only one small loss in PLUG and everything else a win. I over traded a bit but that's ok as we are experimenting with different styles as we develop our rules this first week or so. Tomorrow we will start taking some more stuff with 1-2k shares (we have stuck with mostly 100-500 thus far). I closed the day with a decent profit of 180 bucks after commission , though like I said I over traded so I spent a lot on commission. Anyway though, good to see the strat starting to come together even after only five days of working on it (admittedly we have both been trading for like ten years though so this is really trivial, lol). Here are some things to watch for tomorrow!

  • CTIC long for a breakout. Not sure on price yet

  • CUR long over $3.84 - I took a small starter position in this today at $3.70 for a swing. I am hoping for a dip so I can add more around $3.60 but if it just goes I would be happy too. Just 500 shares to start in an account I don't really care about, lol and I will probably add up to like 1200 or so and then if it breaks out I will day trade it in my bigger account.

  • ZHNE long for a continuation

  • BIOF long - it is hinting but probably not ready yet. This thing is gonna be HOT when it runs though!

Hope everyone had a good day! And congrats to /u/Ruckol1 on his first day of trading!

My first day of trading

Well.. the day finally arrived! Even though I didn't fall asleep until about 3AM, I was up by 9 and checked in on where things were going pre-market.

I was eager and excited, and quickly noticed OXGN had exploded pre-market, and not wanting to miss the boat I jumped in. At $5.11 ..

I spent much of the day hoping for a recovery, and even could have closed my position with a loss of only about $10-20 at one point, but I thought it would rally near the end of the day. Boy was I wrong. I was able to get into some more positions as it was heading down real low, now my avg. price is $4.72, I'm down $153.00 but holding onto it right now..

On a more positive note I closed up $109 on PLUG, my first profit from a trade ever.

Either way, I've learned a lot and enjoyed my educational day. Commissions killed me as well, $64.13 in fees so I think I need to cut back my frequency and be more patient before I take positions.

Stocks I'm watching tomorrow, 3/12/14!

Well, another small kind of annoying loss day for me as I continue to seek out the "perfect" opportunities to trade. Each day we are making little tweaks to our strategy and yeah, it seems like we are taking a lot of small losses, but these are all so that we can develop the system with an effectiveness that is scalable to huge size...so again I remain confident that hopefully by the end of this week we will nail at least a couple good opps to prove the strategy works. There just hasn't really been a lot out there that we were in sync on so far...Thursday was our first day so we went tiny size, Friday I missed our bullet EJ, Monday we both passed on HIMX as it failed to hold 15, and today neither of us had shares of BLDP, FCEL or PLUG, haha. Anyway, these losses are miniscule so I don't really care...down about 75 bucks today and most of it was commission, so whatever. You'll probably notice over the last few days that my losses have been extremely small and winners seem like they are in stocks I should have made money on (like OPTT today). This is because the losses are taken quickly but the winners we are attempting to let run to very aggressive targets and they often come back, since when we are trading 10k or 20k shares of these things we do not want to be taking 20c gains. We want them to be month makers that make us $10-20-30k each.

Anyway the market itself is pretty choppy still so that is affecting the follow through I think, but I created a small new list of things to watch and will be continuing to focus on intraday movers and look forward to posting some big ass gains later this week!

  • CUR long over $3.84 for a big range breakout

  • TRX long over $2.67 for a 200dma break

  • MSO long over $5.40, then ultimately $5.50 for a flag breakout

I'm also eyeing MUX, ANV, IDRA and CRAY for swings. CRAY will probably be more of a day trade though ... over 39 bucks.

Hope y'all are having a good week! Though I have posted nothing but losses this week I am actually still super pumped about this new partnership because I can see the potential and as we stop being so conservative and get into our groove I'm really excited to show you guys what you can do in the market if you develop a strong strategy!

Disney Stock Certificate c. 1995 - Future Worth? Need advice. Disney won't let me sell until I send it in.

I have a printed Disney stock certificate from 1995 that looks just like this. It is printed for 10 shares, I now own 30 with the 2 splits that have occurred over the years.

I want to sell, originally my plan was to sell 20 and keep 10 given the potential for more growth in the next couple years - and also because I've been told by multiple people the certificate could be worth a lot down the road. Here's the thing - Disney won't let me sell any shares online until I've sent the certificate in. Given that, whats my best route here? Someone told me to sell the certificate on eBay. Is this even practical? How could I prove that I own 30 instead of the 10 indicated on the certificate? Is it actually worth that much more? How much potential worth are we talking here, down the road? A few hundred bucks doesn't make a difference, but I've seen that some old certificates can fetch a pretty penny. I'll be kicking myself if I send it in and the certificate is worth $1,000 on its own in 5 years.

What if...I call Disney and tell them I lost the certificate? That way I get to keep the original and sell what I please...plausible or terrible idea? What would happen?

I'm in a bad spot and need cash, so something's gotta give one way or another. Do I have to bite the bullet and send the certificate in? Or should I try to get a little extra for it on eBay? I hope this post is okay for the subreddit, if not I apologize. Thanks in advance for any advice.
