Question about "reliable" leveraged ETFs

I'm fairly new to investing, and have a question about leveraged ETFs.

In particular I'm curious about Direxion Large Cap Bull 3X Shares (SPXL). I've read a bit about leveraged ETFs and how the math seems to work out, and understand that they tend to be used for day trading and short-term gains.

But looking at SPXL's long term trends, it seems like it is simply a worthwhile investment in the long term; even more-so than stable ETFs like SPY. An explanation of why I shouldn't just invest a bunch of money into SPXL would be greatly appreciated!
